We hired Ivan's Masonry for two jobs: driveway renovation and a new stairway with walkway. From onset it was a long journey for us figuring out what material we will be comfortable with. Ivan patiently consulted us on every available material: concrete, stamping, coloring, and many styles from different providers of concrete pavers. None really resonated with our vision. After a month of research we ended up selecting clay pavers for their traditional look and lasting quality. The problem was that no contractor in our area would even consider working with clay pavers. Initially Ivan also refused but with some prodding he actually agreed to install clay pavers and did an amazing job. The team would start consistently punctually at 7 am and worked full days. Ivan, the owner, would work on the job 100%, including operating the equipment and setting the pavers. The site was kept reasonably clean and the process was well organized. We love the results. Our house became the model for the street as a first house with pavers. Many people complimented on the improvements and expressed the desire to contract with Ivan's Masonry. We are wising Ivan to prosper in his business, and for you guys - wishing you to choose your masonry contractor wisely. Go Ivan's Masonry!

Then they pressured into signing day of, for an $8k discount or so. Pressure under time - never buy into it. Then they started calling. "Can get you this deal if you agree to do the worth between x months." It literally went down to $28k by the time I had to tell them I went with someone else. They only do pavers. Any additional work would need a different contractor to complete the work. Something as simple as capping an exterior gas line, demo of existing structure etc. they just weren't a fit for our project and what we needed.

This was my very first time hiring anybody to do any sort of landscaping work. I was ignorant going…read moreinto it so I had to lean heavily into the landscapers expertise on what would be best for what I wanted to achieve. After getting a few quotes, I chose Lee's Concrete because he impressed me the most with the ideas he presented, not being pushy or sales-y, while also staying competitive price wise. He is also officially licensed for concrete. The project started around May 2025, and completed towards the end of July 2025. It consisted of concrete pouring, artificial turf installation, irrigation routing and laying out gravel/river rocks in planting areas. Also, a 2D layout diagram was provided for me to submit to HOA for approval. Below is a list of critiques ranked starting with my biggest letdowns: #1) WEEDS. Not via the concrete, but the artificial turf that was laid out. Lee offered artificial turf installs during my contractor search. My main reason for getting artificial turf was to have little-to-no maintenance. But, mines constantly has weeds growing out of the edges due the gap in the ends not being sealed. My next door neighbor had artificial turf installed by another landscaper and never has any weeds growing out of the edges ever. They had theirs installed after mine. Maybe it was my fault for not communicating that need initially. But at the same time, I thought having artificial turf laid out and it preventing weed growth on the edges would be a given. #2) Blotchy concrete coloring on front yard. My backyard's concrete coloring was pretty consistent and I was very happy with how it turned out. But my front yard was very blotchy and inconsistent. I was told that this is normal and will take about a year to cure and to give it time. Another reason was for differing "pH levels" for the area where the concrete was laid. Well... a year has passed and it has kind of improved here and there, but not so much in other parts. So, I'm a little hesitant to believe it that is actually the reason. It doesn't make sense to me that all the concrete laid out in my entire neighborhood doesn't look as bad as how it looks on my driveway. Structurally, it's fine. But it is a bit of an eye-sore looking at it every time I'm in my front yard. #3) I felt like I spent more time than I needed to checking for imperfections. A main one was my vinyl fence and cinder block wall getting dirty from the concrete pours. Another big one was the cinder block retaining wall in my backyard not being symmetrical on the edges. I had to call it out a few times to even get it fixed. Once it was finally fixed, my vinyl fence had residue from the cinderblock wall fix. By that time, I had gotten fatigue from having to constantly call out imperfections and let that one go. #4) You don't really know when the landscapers will come out to do the work. If I remember correctly, they would come out most weekdays. But, you wouldn't know if they would show up the next day or not. Not too big of a deal honestly. I'm more picky about this because I like to keep the side gate to my backyard locked and not knowing when to unlock it in the morning was just a tiny annoyance. I ended up just unlocking it first thing in the morning and locking it in the evening every weekday. Overall, I'd rate the project a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 - which I think is a very fair assessment. I'm relatively happy how it looks at the end. But there were a few bumps along the way which is why I cannot give a 5 out of 5. It pains me to write the above critiques and not be able to give the highest rating because Lee and the rest of his team were all very nice people. But there definitely could've have been improvements for the entire project.

This is not a great first impression, and the communication has been less than ideal. We set aside time from our workday to be available during the agreed appointment window. I understand schedules can get busy, but so do your clients'.

For years, our outside drains were clogged, and I found myself setting up pumps during the storms to get the pools of water away from our home. Every year, I would tell myself that I would get the drains cleared. Before the rains came this past winter, I hired a company to hydro jet the pipes. They tried to clear the drains, but because they were so clogged, their equipment failed. Again, I was setting up the pumps during the rain storm. So, I researched and found Joel and Sons. I met Joel and he examined our front/back yards. He gave an excellent and fair estimate that would fix the drainage problems. He actually ripped out a small rose bush and hid it in the trash. Grass cutting and branches left everywhere, debris blown not raked up. There are now sharp stems from weeds on every lawn, some 5" tall. Dangerous to step on. Photos don't lie. We now have days of work to clean up the disaster left behind. Don't hire Manuel, the first and second visits were clearly a bait and switch.

He also allowed me to meet him at the nursery to pick the plants/colors that I wanted for my yard. When Isaias and his crew started, it was a pretty quick two-day process. He and his crew were very responsive to my design ideas. I wanted a berm next to a dry riverbed to give the yard some texture. Yet, Isaias and the guys also added their expertise on things I would not have known to do and design ideas that increased the beauty of the landscape. The materials (bark, stone) are really nice quality. And they left everything clean and tidy. In the end I was happier than I ever expected. Now all I want to do is sit out front and watch the beautiful plants grow and the birds and lizards make their homes. I'll attach photos of the before and after, but seeing their work up close is really impressive. Isaias, Jose, and the wonderful crew of guys they had, made the whole experience fun and rewarding. We called them out to execute hardscape plans that we had already designed. Omar Jr nodded and said yes yes yes, but my guess is he was never listening at all. When it came time to frame out for concrete, we noticed the workers were laying things out the way Omar wanted, not the way we told him we wanted it done. Went outside and quickly corrected the problem areas, otherwise Cali Landscape would have had a really expensive redo that they'd be responsible for. They poured the concrete and it looked nice for exactly one day. They told us not to water it down, despite hearing our entire lives that concrete sets best when kept moist. Well, they burned us because the concrete started chipping almost immediately and now wee'rereminded every day of the failed work we paid them to do. We also had them build two gates for us and they are NOT capable! They said yes to take our money but delivered horrible gates. We had to have them come out to fix errors several times and then finally gave up. We're just going to have new ones built by professionals. Workers were friendly but sloppy. They splattered concrete all around our house. They'd also leave equipment in our yard and help themselves to come over and get it whenever they wanted, on non-working days, without contacting us first. Pretty concerning that we came home one Sunday morning to one of their guys jumping into our backyard to get some equipment. What's even more weird is halfway through our project, they called and demanded that we pay them the remaining balance in cash. That's not what our contract required. It truly felt like a shakedown....so unprofessional. Would NEVER recommend these guys and completely regret hiring them in the first place.

Over the period of a month we made several revisions to our project. On each occasion Billie made the revisions and gave new pricing for the project. After meeting with three competitors and making an abundance of changes, we finally signed with Billie and Rock N Block because they were the most responsive and had the best understanding of our vision. At the end of May, Pablo, our project manager, and his crew began our project. Billie checked in on our progress twice during the installation, which impressed me because sales reps are usually never seen after the contract is signed. As the project progressed, Pablo and his crew were very responsive in listening to our changes to ensure our vision came to life. His crew members Moises and Juan did a fantastic job installing the turf with a natural edge where the turf and stone meet! Rock N Block, Billie, Pablo and his crew met and exceeded our expectations! A windstorm knocked our fence over so it prompted us to redo our retainer wall which was built…read moreincorrectly; it was cracked, had a Brazilian Pepper tree that had invaded it and it also was not high enough. Eduardo was quick to respond and knowledgeable when he came to give the estimate. The pricing was incredibly fair. It was a 2 week project that included removing the invasive Brazilian Pepper tree growing out of the original retaining wall, removal of the wooden fence and old retaining blocks, a new retainer wall, a property wall, a retaining planter, leveling off a slope and replanting my dying lime tree. Luckily we didn't have any landscaping done and they got rid of all the weeds and tilled the soil also. I cannot recommend E.L. Landscaping enough. Their work was neat and they cleaned the area nicely when they left. Eduardo is incredibly friendly and has plenty of ideas and options to better suit your price range. I'm incredibly happy with the work that was done and look forward to working with E.L landscaping again.
