In comparison to other gyms, I think the Pavilion Fitness Center has a great value. I tried another…read moregym that cost about the same amount (I pay $25/month for a student membership, 1 month free if you pay in full), and the amenities I received at the other gym completely paled in comparison to what I get here at the Pavilion. Here, I get free towel service, free fitness classes, free access to the indoor/outdoor pool and sauna/hot tub**, free access to the indoor track, and free locker rental (which comes with a lock, unlike some places where you have to bring your own). **Note: The Pavilion has closed down all of the aquatic facilities here for renovation for about a year. That means that the pool access that was supposed to come with my membership is no longer valid. However, I will say that they have been pretty accommodating about this; they are letting people cancel their membership without a fee due to the pool closings, and they are offering some discounts at nearby pool facilities as well. If you compare the Pavilion to a big gym like Lifetime Fitness, the big gym probably has nicer bathrooms/showers, is bigger, and is open at all hours, but places like Lifetime also cost much, much more. Personally, I don't need a gym that is open 24 hours because I just go after work, and I like not having to fight for the machines here at the Pavilion. Even on its most crowded days, I can usually get the machine I want or only have to wait a few minutes to grab it. I should mention too that I have seen several new machines at the Pavilion in the year or so that I've been a member here, so you can tell that they keep up-to-date with the machinery. I also recently started attending the classes they offer with membership here. They are fun, and they don't get packed and crowded like some other workout classes I've gone to. I regret not coming to these classes sooner! My only complaint here is about the shower process. Sometimes it takes a while for the shower to warm up, and I can't seem to get it to be as hot as I want it. Also, I kind of wish they would change their shower curtains and maybe install regular hair dryers rather than just those hand dryers. I'd also like for them to invest in some bigger towels so my butt doesn't hang out. That'd be great. But, these are pretty minor complaints and I'd rather live with this and pay the amount I'm paying than pay double for something only slightly nicer. If you're a resident of Elk Grove Village, I would definitely recommend gym membership here (although maybe wait for the pool to reopen if that's a factor for you). ---Update--- They got brand new showers - hurrah!

First, let me start with stating that I purchased a Groupon for unlimited boot camp classes at this…read moregym. When I showed up, I was told to stand in front of a tv that showed a list of exercises and was told I could do the beginner side or the advanced side. The advanced side was just more reps. These exercises included jumping jacks, air jabs and hooks, push-ups, 3 burpees, pike crunches, 1-2-3s, and 3 sit-ups. I was told to do as many rounds as possible in 25 minutes. There was no warm up or cool down. Then, the trainer left to go talk with a woman for the duration of my 25 minute workout. Once I was done he told me I could only come to 3 classes a week...when my Groupon was for unlimited classes. Then, the best part, he said that the workout was the same for a whole week! So for my 6 week Groupon, I'd only get 6 different workouts. Maybe he's a more attentive trainer to those that pay monthly, but from my experience, he was not very good. I could have looked up that workout on Pinterest and did it in my living room. It would have been the same as the workout at this gym since he never said anything to me the entire workout. I've been to many boot camps and this was by far the worst. I would not recommend this gym to anyone except those that have never worked out before. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because it might be a good starting point for someone just getting started in working out.

The classes seem excellent. pickleball game here looks legit. The staff are friendly and helpful. Locker rooms are secure, fully stocked with toiletries and about as clean as you could expect. And, yes bros, older guys with no modesty walking around are here as well. The prices aren't that bad, but I did come from CA where a gym membership to a higher end club usually costs a small mortgage, a 10% ownership stake in your soul and your firstborn child. Here's the two downers for me that keep the club from being 5 star. 1) They have a dedicated work area for members. Super useful because a lot of us are coming during work hours or commute a long way to get here. However, the work area/club lounge legit sounds like a club. The lounge is also right along the hallway so there's a lot of gym bros congratulating each other on hitting the PB or ladies walking by who are totes excited about hearing Fate of Ophelia during HIT class. I get it. I'm a Swifty as well and I'm the first to admit that Taylor slays. But I ain't yelling it down the hall. Midtown has a work area/lounge and they commit to it. If you're going to add a space like this, commit. Do it right. 2) Y'all need to up the cafe game or I'll call John Taffer and Gordon Ramsay. Soggy tortilla on a wrap is sacrilege. Where's the two Italian dudes yelling "not approved" when I need them. I know I'm nitpicking. Maybe I'm unfair. After all, it is a gym. But if you're positioning yourself as not just a fitness club but an experience, commit to it. don't half a$% something. Whole a$% it.
