Another nice lake side park in the Northwest Suburbs. While this isn't as huge as some nearby parks, this feels like a mix between twin lakes and busse woods. Lake Arlington has all your normal park amenities including boathouse, sculpture, playground, and walking path. One thing people may not like about this location is the limited parking options, which only exist around the entrance, rather than going around the whole lake. The view of the lake is nice, but there are houses in the background which take away from the overall experience. The path around the is long, but the width of the path is somewhat narrow and there's not really opportunities to bridge off of it (although, there's plenty of space to walk off the path). With that said, this is a fine place to have a picnic, take a walk, ride a boat, take some pictures, or lay around and enjoy the nice weather. But Lake Arlington can get a bit busier than other lakes as people will enter all at a similar location and many won't wander too far away from parking.

New playground equipment as of August 2018
Judy L.

New playground equipment installed August 2018. There is something for everyone! Sensory music garden has drums and xylophones. There is a tot playground and big kid playground. We really liked the big teeter totter that seats 4! Bring your little climbers here. Lots to climb! The ground is really cushy AstroTurf. There is an adult workout area too with a lot of plyometric exercise equipment where you primarily use your own body weight. You can do pull ups, dips, plyo jumps, core and more. Lake Arlington also has a beautiful track for walking or biking around the lake. You can rent paddle boats in the club house too. They have the absolute best popsicles here! Just made out of fruit.

Real nice park to walk, bike or run around the little lake. Kids playground was recently updated with new attractions, slides and even small outdoor exercise area.

The improvements to the lake have been made and it looks great! There is now a new fitness area for adults in addition to the new playground.

I just have had very enjoyable walk. Very nice and quiet. No green, but still pretty and peaceful. Great for walk, ride or just reading.

It's a lake with the running path. It's exactly what you expect how can you give it a bad review?

I must say this place Busse Woods is large, sprawling, neat, clean, and impressive (it's 3558 acres in fact). I think I knew that it was sprawling driving along Higgins Rd, but pulling in, you can see how well laid out and maintained the premises are.  It would be quite nice to revisit during winter and the change of fall colors also. Grove 5 in particular is an extra nice picnic grove in that it has a shelter and is near (540' to be exact per the website!) a nice and accessible restroom building.  The shelter is pretty large with a capacity of 100 people.  It's located in a section called Busse Forest-South and which comprises Groves 5 - 16.  Of those 12 groves, 4 have shelters, but only Grove 5 is close to an accessible restroom.  So, our family member apparently picked out the best grove, good job!  Busse Woods has 11 sections like Busse Forest-South, so it's massive with a lot of picnic location and other leisure activity options.  Anyway, go to their website for more info, but I was pretty impressed.  Busse Woods includes a Busse Lake as well as a 7 mile trail.  Big thumbs up for this Cook County Forest Preserve!

Sometimes the bathrooms are open, other times sorry it's porta potties for you. Plenty of garbage cans around so don't litter in nature! The 7+ mile trail is paved. Bikers can be a little intense if you are walking or running. Lots of parking so be specific if meeting a group.

Gallery Park started out as a collection of flat aprons and runways in the Glenview Naval Air…read moreStation. The Naval station closed in '93, and the hundred and fifty acres that now comprise Gallery Park became available, and were incorporated as this park. Tip: There are several different trails here, all of which loop around Lake Glenview. The lake also has several piers, some small islands, and a bridge My two favorite trails here are the Lake Trail (one and a half miles long) and the Park Trail (one point eight miles long). I used to also very much enjoy the Lakeside Trail, but I ran into far too many ticks the last time I went there, so I've been avoiding it. Over and above the hiking trails, the park also has several soccer fields, tennis courts, and even some catch-and-release fishing spots. Last (but not least) there's a fitness zone with equipment for cardio steps, chest presses, an crunches, etc. But wait, there's more! You'll also find a children's garden, bike racks, water fountains, and picnic tables. All in all this is a pretty cool place to relax and get some nature on :-)

The park and lake have been landscaped with native plants and offer great colorful additions from Spring through Autumn. The trails are paved but there are also single track trails of crushed gravel that follow the lake shore more closely. There are also tick warning signs along the lakeside trails which are nice reminders to hikes to check out their shoes and clothes after a hike to make sure you are not bringing home any hitchhikers! The scenery here is peaceful and relaxing. The lake is large and very pretty and it's easy to forget you are in suburban Chicago. The park offers tennis courts, work-out stations, and a small amphitheater. This is a great natural area to hike and enjoy our beautiful native plants!!

Millard Park pays tribute to all of it! Thanks to Maryana R and Peter S for helping me discover this jewel. At the very end of Ravine Drive, down a long and winding road, up some stone stairs, you'll discover a piece of North Shore history. Not only will you discover a remaining stone wall structure that was part of the Robert C Schaffner Estate, built by Howard Van Doren Shaw, but the restored Schaffner Garden, which is a magical place made for a fairy princess. In the midst of wild flowers, you'll also discover planted trees and benches dedicated to loved ones who have passed on. This garden overlooks the lake and the Millard Park Beach. I can't wait to come back when the flowers are in bloom. On the beach you will find a rock garden and a fun wooden structure/rock identifier displaying native rocks. Kids and kids at heart can take the rocks they discover on the beach and match them to the rock identifier as a learning tool. It's kind of difficult to explain, so you'll just have to see for yourself! Overall, an incredible place to escape to. Note: You can only park there with a Highland Park sticker and dogs are not allowed on the beach.
