I really want to give this a 4 or 5 star review but..... We wanted to try Itacate, but had some questions (i.e, what's the menu at your new North Chili location? Drinks there? Same as your Penfield location?) So we tried to call. Get the 3 tone error - your call cannot be completed as dialed. Hmm... check the number and dial again. Same thing. Ok, 3rd time's the charm? Nope... network error try your call again. We drove over anyway, and it was fairly crowded but not a long wait. We step up to order and mention to the guy, hey, we couldn't get through on the phone. He said "yep, I took it off the hook" (or disconnected it.. something to that nature). We asked why and he said it's crazy busy and he didn't have time to keep answering the phone. Hmm.. not great business practice. So, I said, "Can I get the pork burrito?" He said you could have if you were here 10 minutes ago haha. Again, hmmm... How about I'm sorry, that's a great seller and we're out of it? We placed our order and asked for the fried avocados - yes! That sounds delicious! Well, you can't have that either. Ok, why? We're out of those too. Sigh... disappointment all around. I'm giving this a 3 star review because the burritos were very good. Service could use some pointers. I may revise my review if I try this place again.

I'm giving this place 3.5 stars mostly because of ambiance and general service. After closing the doors on their sit-down location in Penfield, the owners of Itacate opened a fast-casual restaurant in Chili. You order at the counter like a standard fast-casual joint. All of the employees were kind. We ordered food to eat-in and sat down to wait for our meals. The employees called out orders when they were ready, sort of like a coffee shop. This became a little confusing with other patrons in the restaurant also waiting for their food. Yelling, "tacos" isn't super effective at a restaurant where many people are ordering tacos. My friend and I were also confused at times because it often was hard to distinguish if the employees were calling out to the patrons or communicating with each other. The ambiance in general was a little lacking. First off, it was freezing in the dining area. I'm not often one to complain about cold (I run hot most days), but more than once I considered putting on my coat because I was that cold. There was a can of paint out in the dining area as well, which was a little strange. The utensil dispensers weren't working. Little things added up to make my experience not as comfortable as I'd hoped. The important part, though, is the food. Itacate offers the standard chips/salsa, tacos, and burritos as well as entree options like enchiladas and flautas. There were other appetizers as well, including tortilla soup and fried avocado. The food was good and ingredients tasted fresh. I ordered chips and salsa to start and chicken enchiladas as my entree. The chips were very good - salty with a hint of lime. The salsa tasted great, but had random chunks of what looked like cotija as well as pieces of shredded mozzarella. My chicken enchiladas were delicious - not what I was expecting from a fast-casual restaurant (in a good way)! My friend, who is extremely picky when it comes to Mexican cuisine, really enjoyed her chicken flautas. We split an order of churros after our meal, and they were hot, crispy, and delicious. Overall, I was very happy with the food! I think if I were ever in the area again, I might order take-out from here, but I'm not sure if I would dine-in again.

Disclaimer: please remember this is a fast food restaurant not a full sit down. I ordered a chicken tortilla soup and was surprised yet pleased. The chicken broth was full of flavor with chunks of fresh chicken breast. There was large chunks of avocado and lots of seasonings. My husband ordered an enchilada. I found it to be outstanding as well. The rice and beans were good too! Especially, again, for being a fast food restaurant I was surprised at how fresh most of the food tasted. I'll be back!

I would definitely say this is pretty authentic in comparison to your other fast food Mexican food chains but it wasn't anything to brag about. The family deals are probably worth it but we would say it was a tad bit expensive for a fast food restaurant. As well, we definitely thought they put way too much chili seasoning on our tacos and I don't mind the spice but when it's like burning your mouth and that's all you can taste, you know it isn't portioned right. We did enjoy the hibiscus iced tea they had to drink but there were no refills which was understandable since it was only a 1.00. Another thing we thought which was unprofessional was one of the workers kept stepping out during his shift and took a smoke break in his truck leaving his other coworker. We understand he didn't have much customers but we thought that was a bit unprofessional especially if he was on the clock.

This is one of the tougher reviews to write! I really couldn't decide between 3 and 4 stars. Upon walking in, we were a little taken aback. We should've known it was just a fast casual place, but we didn't. We came here on a whim without much research after not getting into Rohrbachs before a show at RWC. It was FREEZING in there, and even though I know it's been there awhile, it doesn't look quite finished. The drink selection is very minimal, which was disappointing (it's literally just a cooler with a few bottled Pepsi products). We ordered our food and went to a table to wait. The table was gross. Its like wood planks with grooves between them and the grooves are filled with old food. They call you to get your food by what you ordered and not your name, and since the kitchen is open you honestly can't tell if they are calling you up or calling out orders to each other, so we were a bit confused. We got chips and salsa to start. The chips were fine. The salsa I'm pretty sure was homemade and had decent flavor, but the textures were waaaaay off. It has small and big weird chunks and long fat pieces of tomato skin, and bits of shredded cheese that we were not sure were supposed to be there. It was edible, just very strange. My friend ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and I ordered the Flautas. She was disappointed that we got black beans instead of refried on the side, but I was actually happy about that. The beans, IMO, were great and had excellent flavor. The yellow rice was great too. My flautas were nice and crispy and the chicken inside was moist and flavorful. They were topped with big hunks of fresh avocado (also a happy surprise for me but maybe not for everyone), shredded lettuce, fresh tomato and onion, a drizzle of sour cream and some very hot (at least for me) sauce. It was ok once mixed with all the other flavors but whew! It was a bit much for me and I would ask to have it left off the next time. I ordered us some churros for dessert, which as another yelper mentioned is really just 1 frozen churro broken in half and served as "2" for $2.50. A little crazy if you ask me. Overall, the food really was great which made me lean towards 4 stars. There were some beautiful murals on the walls, and whoever the guy was running the show was very nice and accommodating and came around talking to everyone asking for honest feedback, which I appreciated. But the temp, cleanliness, confusion, weird salsa and churro-corner-cutting brings me back to the 3. Maybe 3.5, if that was allowed. I also really wish I could've had a margarita-might've helped me overlook some of the obvious flaws

Quick service! I had a chicken enchilada entree and my wife had a beef campechanos entree - both were delicious but the campechanos were a bit greasy. The black beans were fantastic! I think it was a sort of black bean soup because I could taste broth in it (I think). Really great though. Rice was standard issue for the cuisine. But the biggest win for this new restaurant in North Chili is definitely the speed of service. Ordered in-person and had no complaints for the prep time. Nothing spicy in the enchiladas at least - next time I'll be sure to try their spicier sauce. Can't wait!

Bunch of hard working kids in here, on a Friday night. I respect that. Food is cooked to order and I have no complaints about it.

I haven't been here in a while. Drove here from buffalo to have food. Still the best mexican food in rochester by a mile.

Truly authentic Mexican. Best in the area hands down. I've been ordering from them since they first opened and and am always satisfied!

Food's okay but expensive. It's cheaper to go to one of the area diners and sit down for a full meal than buy a steak burrito.

I come from the central coast in California and grew up with migrant workers from Mexico. It's been hard finding a place that had authentic Mexican food since moving to Rochester but this place can not be more authentic. We had tacos (shrimp, al pastor and carne asada), fried plantains, guacamole, and much more. All fresh ingredients packed with delicious flavor. You must try this place!!!

However, sauces are not automatically included, so be sure to ask for them on the side. Side dishes are often an afterthought at many restaurants, but Chuy's offered several tasty options. *Tacos de Asada y Maduro: featured high quality steak with fried plantains. The plate included three tacos, Mexican beans, and rice. While the meat had a good char, it was slightly dry. Despite the menu listing chipotle crema, the sauce was not included on any of my visits. Its spice and creaminess would have tied the dish together. The plantains were perfectly golden brown and sweet. The beans and rice were both flavorful, though I wished the beans had a more consistent texture, as they varied between watery and refried. *Horchata: top tier cinnamon rice beverage that was nicely sweetened and well spiced. *Flan: was dense and creamy with a sweet, rich caramel sauce. The custard had a beautiful body and was a must order. I have never had a bad meal here, though consistent inclusion of sauces would easily push this spot into five star territory. Chuy's definitely satisfied my Mexican food cravings without leaving me feeling greasy.
