Sweet chilling lamb chops with rice and beans as well as sweet potato
Severina H.

Issa's Empanadas is so much more than just empanadas--this place is an absolute gem! Every single item I ordered was beyond delicious, and the portion sizes were HEFTY. You truly get what you pay for and more. I had the sweet chili lamb chops, Cajun cream pasta with chicken, oxtail empanada, and jerk chicken empanada, and I was blown away by the flavor in every bite. The lamb chops were cooked to absolute perfection--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the sweet chili sauce gave them such a unique and delicious twist. The Cajun cream pasta was rich, creamy, and packed with immense flavor. And the empanadas? Just impeccable. Perfectly crisp, packed with filling, and paired with sauces that elevated them even more. Everything I tried was a hit, and I can't recommend this spot enough. If you're looking for incredible food with bold flavors and generous portions, Issa's is the place to go! You will not be disappointed.

Rasta Pasta! As a self proclaimed Rasta Pasta savant: this is quite possibly the BEST I've had in the Hampton Roads area.

4 empanadas packaged very well. Broccolini, delicious and well seasoned and chicken Rasta pasta.

The food was very expensive and portions are small... the taste was not that good. The people there are rude.

Our waiter Ronald was friendly and helped with recommendations. We went with the appetizer sampler that included beef empanadas, tostones, chicharones de pollo and one other delicious item that I forgot the name of. We added morcilla (blood sausage) and yuca fries to the appetizer round. Both were very good. We enjoyed the whole red snapper, churrasco mofongo, and bacalao guisado mofongo. All were excellent but we found the dishes with the mofongo to be our favorites. We ended with flan, tres leches cake, and platanos maduros. All three were great, the platanos were piping hot and high quality! Somewhat surprised that they didn't have coffee available but all in all, a great experience!

Unprofessional and Discriminatory Treatment by Bartender Juan…read moreI came here with two of my friends (gay), and we all ordered the same drink, a pitcher of sangria that we shared equally. Out of nowhere, the bartender, Juan, decided to cut off only my two friends, even though we all drank the exact same amount. He told me I was fine to keep drinking, but refused to serve them and asked us to leave. The way he singled out my friends felt unfair, inconsistent, and discriminatory. They weren't acting drunk, disrespectful, or causing any issues. We were all just enjoying our time. Instead of explaining anything professionally, Juan handled the situation with attitude and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. This is not how customers should be treated, and it definitely ruined our experience. We won't be returning, and I hope management addresses this seriously.

Everything looked lovely, it was hard to decide on what to get. She had also just made some fresh pastries. I decided on some ube pendesal, and as I'm a sucker for tiramisu I also asked for that. She offered the fresh pendesal as well, which I couldn't say no to, so I got that as well. She was overall very nice. I saw the empanadas in the corner, and I know I'm already gonna have to come back to try more. She told me how to keep the pendesal fresh, and I thanked her and went to my car to try the breads. The fresh pandesal was amazing. Fluffy, light, warm, soft, a little sweet, just so good. The ube one was a little heavier, and had a halaya and cream cheese filling, which I just loved. It would've been better warm, but I was hungry and wanted to try things. I waited til I got home to try to tiramisu, and oh my god that is some of the best tiramisu I've had in the area. I tried one at the farmers market by an Italian lady, and I think this one is better. It has good ratios of everything. It's not drowning in coffee, the cream is nice and sweet, and it isn't too mushy. This will now be my go-to spot for tiramisu for sure. I can't wait to come back and try more!

It was Buy one get one free. Each combo was 22 dollars. I ordered off of the website for pick up. l ordered the Pernil (roasted pork) with white rice, beans and sweet plantains and my second combo was the pollo asado with rice with pigeon peas and tostones . On my way to pick up i got a call stating that they were out of the chicken (totally understandable since it was close to closing time ) So I opted for the beef empanadas. I appreciate the customer service of them calling me before I got there and giving me different options. Upon arrival I was uncomfortable with the smell. Not sure if it was old oil and grease but it was pleasant. I received my food (which was so plentiful when I checked in the car.) However , the smell of the food , was as if the oil that it was prepared with was old. Not pleasant at all. Smelled up my entire car. Finally home to taste the peril was just okay 4/10 it tasted old and like it in fact had been prepared or reheated with dirty oil. The sides and empanadas were not bad. 7/10

Empanadas, sandwiches and other finger foods. Keeping it simple for customers. Last weekend, Sophia and I drove from the Peninsula to see if the hype was legit. Walking inside, we were greeted by one of the sisters who was featured on the segment. They had a few tables where you can sit or you can order takeout. It was very clean with decor on the walls and music from the 70s to the 90s was playing throughout. Very calm during our visit. Let me use my three favorite Yelp words to describe the food: pretty damn good. For apps, we order beef empanadas. Pretty nice size and cooked perfectly. The beef and veggies were well seasoned. Their chimichurri sauce that you can add definitely brought extra flavor. Nothing overpowering at all. For our meal (and takeout), we both chose their chicken milanesa sandwich, which is a popular Argentinian dish. They were pretty big and hearty. From the thinly sliced chicken to the amount of veggies, everything worked pretty well. This trip was truly worth it. Catching local diamonds in the rough like Tango Bites is one hobby I love. Then, the waiting... and waiting... and waiting... 45 minutes later (and we were 3rd in line to order), we finally got our food (they definitely need to prep ahead of time for the anticipated lines). It was NOT worth the wait and we were really disappointed. For $10 each, we got a ton of plain basmati rice, some black beans, the most tasteless, dry chicken, a little shredded lettuce and a couple of grape tomatoes. I definitely wouldn't seek out the brick and mortar location and, if they're on schedule at a brewery, would be eating at home first or finding another way to spend my time.

The regular beef empanada was good. I do wish we had known to ask for sauce. I've noticed much much later really way too late. The other tables had sauces and ours did not so I am sure the empanada would've been even better with some sort of sauce. The sampler was OK. It was basically the same thing sort of repeated three different times and three different breads, but the breadsall tastes the same they were just different shapes. I wasn't a big fan of the chicken that was shredded inside, but my son loved the cheese sticks. The best were the tacos. Hands down I would skip the other items and go straight to the tacos. They were absolutely delicious. And there was definitely enough rice and beans with the one to go around. Service was OK. They forgot about us for a long time and they never offered the sauces until the very end when I saw the other tables had it and I asked for some but at that point I only had one taco left and we had eaten everything else. They weren't busy either because we are early birds when it comes to eating. It is definitely authentic and I would try it again, but maybe just be more cognizant of what's available.
