Excellent e-bike tour of the Carriage Road. When booked was under the impression the tour was 4 hours, this trip was totally un-rushed and lasted an additional 1 hr 45 min. We decided to invest in taking the 4-hour Ebike tour instead of just renting Ebikes on our own. What a great decision! The tour was fantastic, and our two guides were so excited to teach us all about Acadia National Park. It was our first time on Ebikes and they were effortless to operate. They have four "speeds" and the gears shift smoothly and silently. But just like a regular bike, you do have to keep peddling in order for the electric to kick in to help you move forward. So, after four hours, we were definitely tired. We covered 20 miles and stopped often enough to take amazing photos and get some history from the guides. I don't know how many the max number of people is on a tour. We had eight and it was very manageable. The start and stop point is right at the entrance to the park, so finding it was easy. We loved it! We went 20 miles and it didn't even feel like it. We are not the most athletic people, but honestly the ebikes were amazing as well as Thomas our guide. He was funny, interesting, and took care of us all. We feel like taking this tour allowed us to see the majestic and stunning Acadia National Park in a unique, fun, and all inclusive way. We saw tons of frogs (in all different stages), beaver dams, and a tree that was strategically chewed by them; in addition to Jordan Pond, Eagle Lake and Bubble Pond. Overall ***** Absolutely awesome!! Three years ago I biked the trails, towing a dog in a carriage, with a regular mountain bike and it was tough, my son only recently started speaking to me again. This summer we brought another family with us and the thought of listening to four kids complain the entire time made me almost not suggest we attempt it. The problem of course is the Carriage Roads are nearly a must do so instead of hauling our bikes up there I set out to find rentals when BOOM eBikes show up on the search! This was a moment of the clouds parting and the sun coming out! First of all Island Time was a breeze to work with, there was a slight hiccup with what the store told us was available and what their online reservation system said was available but that was fixed quickly. We had a packed day in the park ahead of us and I asked them if we could meet to get the bikes at 8:15 and they were right on time. They drop the bikes off at Hulls Cove visiting center. The waivers are simply and easy to fill out and after a brief lesson we were off. The eBikes are absolutely game changing, instead of listening to the kids whine endlessly the air was filled with sounds of pure joy and excitement. The bikes give you just enough boost to make the entire experience enjoyable. We biked 25 miles in 3 hours with smiles plastered across everyone's face the entire time. Be aware that some of the downhills can get really steep so you must have some competency on a bike in the first place but for going uphill "Turbo" will make you feel like you are ready to take on the Tour de France! read more

Everything was well-organized, the equipment was first rate and in great condition. Some places charge extra for things like helmets, bottle holders, baskets or racks, but all of that is included here. The owner met us with the bikes, his training/demo was very clear, and he was very accommodating to us. I loved that there was a GPS on my bike, and that a text # was provided. She made sure everyone was comfortable on their bike and kept giving us tips as we went (helpful reminders on what gear and power mode to use for hills). If you want to see the inside of Acadia this is the way to go. We are somewhat healthy people, but I didn't want to be miserable if I had to huff and puff all day. Having a significant other that rides dirt bikes etc I knew this would peek his interest. He loved it and was looking for ones for sale afterwards. We went 60+ miles covering every trail that was open (coming from Hulls Cove visitor center) in the 4 hours we rented. There are a lot of hills and a-lot of miserable people pushing there regular bikes, while we went by with ease. You can make it as hard or as easy as you want. Ebike and bus is a winning combination for an island that gets a lot of car traffic. The riding on carriage paths is the best part of the park. Island Time Bikes is 2.9 mile Hike from Main Street Bar Harbor to Acadia National Park. On the road, in traffic, over bridges, uphill....They advertised .5 mile walk. NOT. Be advised in Bar Harbor TAXI's MUST BE RESERVED IN ADVANCE. No Uber, lift. I phoned Island bikes to make aware we're coming - they could of cared less whether I made it or not...... After the strenuous hike of 45 min. at a breakneck pace (we're young, active people). We arrived. We talked of the misrepresentation of distance & Island Time said Oh well The ride is so beautiful on old Carriage Roads closed to cars. You can ride for miles & miles thru forest trees, ponds, lakes, bridges, spectacular! There is a restaurant & grab & go food. The electric biking EQUIPMENT was top notch. Easy to ride & operate. Helmets, locks, phone holders, large compact zipper pouch to hold essentials. Go & get out and enjoy this area Acadia Park either walking or biking. I hope ISLAND TIME BIKES does the right thing & recalculates the mileage or hire someone to shuttle people to point of departure. Easy Peasy. read more

This is a 10/10 must do in Acadia. My husband and I rented the Class 2 bikes and were absolutely blow away by how fun they were. I was initially a bit afraid as I have not ridden a bike in years and was never very good to begin with. It was a PHENOMENAL experience, we went all over the "quite side" on dirt roads and paved streets. Zooming around the trails made me feel like we were on little electric motorcycles. WE have rented with Island Time 3 different times now. We had a great experience each time. The reservation system is easy, the confirmation and waiver signing went without a hitch. I suggested that they tell people to practice being in turbo and high gear (easiest peddling gear) as they approach the first hill which is a tough one but totally doable if you are in the right combination. The bikes are heavy, not impossible, but heavy for me, I am 5'2", and 74 years old. We biked along Eagle Lake too Jordan Pond where we had an early lunch and then back to the Visitor's Center. We went 24 miles over 5 hours. Loved it! Go for it, you won't regret it! read more

Great time on three ebikes today. Two of us ride regularly but the ebikes were a nice choice to enjoy the carriage trails with our group. What an incredible way to spend the day in Acadia. From setup to drop off this was a seamless event. The carriage roads are amazing and there is literally no incline you cannot ascend on these bikes. I'm a regular rider, my wife is not, and we were both able to find comfortable and challenging settings on the bikes to get the workout we wanted (or didn't want). Excellent service, bikes were easy to find in the parking lot at Hull's Cove, right next to the carriage road entrance. There were six adults in our party. The young lady that assisted us was extremely informative and helpful. Unfortunately, the owner was curt and condescending. We had just paid a total of $450.00 for the six rentals. We all came away with the same feeling. The owner acted as if he was paying us $450.00 to ride his bikes. He was short and dismissive. Bike rentals in tourist towns likely do not rely on repeat business, but rather the "One and Done" customers. Which, back in the day, might account for this type of attitude. Great experience! This was one of the highlights of our week in Bar Harbor. A perfect way to explore the Carriage Roads and get a sense of Acadia. The bikes are in great shape and work very well with multiple pedal assist levels. We had an Island Time private guide, Marty, who was wonderful! She helped us navigate the area and gave us super historical information about Acadia and the Carriage Roads. She knew all of the nooks and crannies (waterfalls, bridges, bathroom spots) that we would have missed if she hadn't been with us. Island Time had an efficient system of picking up and checking out. The meeting spot is in the parking lot of Hull's Cove Visitor Center right at the trailhead for the Carriage Roads. I recommend bringing gloves if you are riding in the fall. Smooth. That's the word that best describes renting an Ebike with Acadia Rentals. They met us in the visitors parking lot, provided some training and helmets and off we went on a smooth ride via the Acadia carriage roads. We covered about 15 miles of the park and the bikes were in excellent condition and were easy to use! Riding an e-bike through Acadia Carriage Roads is a wonderful experience. The roads are beautiful and the view awesome. E-bikes make it easy to go places that you could not on a regular bike. This season, e-bikes are in high demand and Island Time is using that knowledge to provide bikes that are in poor working order. My husband and I rented bikes through them. My bike worked fined. My husband's bike was rubbing on the rear wheel making the pedal assist not very effective. We told the owner about his when we got the bike and did the test ride in the parking lot but he ignored our worries. He was quite rude. We should have insisted that we get a different bike but figured that maybe we were in the wrong. This was not the first time we had rented e-bikes. The entire day, my husband struggled with his bike. He motor provided some assistance but the rubbing on the rear chain/tire definitely slowed him down. When we returned the bike, we again told the owner that there was something wrong with the bike and it needed to be checked out before being rented again. He did not want to hear it. We feel bad for the next person who gets that bike. If I had to redo the day, I would have insisted upon a different bike. So, check out your bike before you ride out of the lot. read more
