We had one day in Maine and since we didn't have enough time to go whale watching, we decided to book a trolley tour of Acadia National Park. We saw the signs and ticket booth just yards from where our cruise ship docked. We decided to book a 2.5 hour tour that goes into the park with 3 photo stops including Cadillac Mountain. It was $58 each. We literally paid for our tickets and were sitting on the trolley 5 minutes later. The tour is fully narrated and our guide was so knowledgeable! He grew up in the area and seemed to know everything about it . (He also knew many of the regulars driving or walking past us.). There were 3 stops for amazing, breathtakingly beautiful photos. You are warned that it's 15 minutes per stop so the trolley stays on schedule. We went all the way up to Cadillac Mountain and our guide was giving us facts about the park, the area, and its residents the entire time. If you have just 1 or 2 days in Bar Harbour I would definitely recommend taking an Oli's Trolley tour. It was enjoyable, informative, snd convenient.

Very fun way to get an overview of the beautiful but crowded Acadia National Park. The bus driver/ tour guide was a hoot. He had remarks and insights that made the ride fun and informative. Great scenery throughout the trip. Bus was conveniently located in bar Harbor near shops and restaurants. Highly recommended.

Great trip through Acadia NP! I had to call a few times to change our tour because we had to tenter from our cruise ship, and the were so helpful and accommodating. Our driver/tour guide did an incredible job of navigating us to amazing vistas in Acadia while informing us about the area. Our suggestion- a little more time for each stop.

We decided that it would a good idea to take a kind of tour of Acadia as a way to see all the sites with a short timeline. I think we chose well. Our tour was great - we learned a lot about the area and the park. I love history, so we got a great history lesson from Fred W, our awesome tour guide. A couple of things to know: -The one thing I did not like is that the tour left at 3:30 and at roughly 3:10, we received a phone call asking if we were coming still. That was pretty annoying to me. We know what time the thing leaves and we are planning to be there on time. But apparently, they really want you to show up early. -The benches are wood, so just something to know if you have a bad back etc. -Generally speaking you get 15 minutes at each of the three spots that you stop so you ether have to hit the bathroom or gift shop OR go see the thing. You don't have time for both really. -Questions are encouraged! You'll get more out of it if you pay attention and ask questions along the way.

We did the 2 1/2 hour tour and it was perfect. I have not done the four hour tour but I think it might be too long. Scenery was beautiful. Lots of awesome pictures. Our driver was very informative and knowledgeable about the park. I believe his name was Ken.

Stopped at bar harbour for a couple of hours on our road trip. We were looking for some tours to visit the national park and for sightseeing. A lot of the tours were sold out already, and we were told to go to Oli's Trolley. The lady at the counter was quite friendly and provided us with lots of info on the tours. Unfortunately a lot of their tours were sold out already and other tours were too long, which we could not take because we were on a time limit. We got the one hour tour to Cadillac mountain, which cost 25$ per person. The driver/tour guide gives you a guided tour on the way up the mountain which includes history about bar harbour, info about the area (ie lots of igneous rock and bar harbour is famous for blueberries). It was a 20 min drive up to the mountain, 15 minute stop to look around and 20 min drive down the mountain. One issue I had is the trolley was not air conditioned and very hot. Overall staff were pretty nice. We got a better deal buying directly from the office as opposed to buying it through an agency.

The cabin of the boat is very comfortable with large, comfortable chairs and tables. There is a deck with a galley where they serve drinks and snacks. They also sell hats and gloves if you're cold and drammine , if you feel sick. The admonition to dress really warm is for real , for real. It was about seventy degrees at the dock , but it was about forty degrees out in the middle of the ocean. We really did need winter gear to be comfortable outside on the deck. We found that as we get cold , we would add another layer and that worked really well. The deck has seating all around and safe rails. So you can stand against the rails , the boat speeds along , so you can get to a whale quickly , and then it slows down to a stop when there is a sighting of any kind of significant wildlife. When I felt sick after a good hour of a bumpy rough sea, which we were warned about , they immediately brought me ginger ale and a seasick bag. Unfortunately , on this trip , we only saw the back of a humpback whale , and then we saw a deceased whale. They took many photos and alerted researchers to come and find it so that it could be determined or studied how it might have passed away. They are very responsible and responsive to the safety and health of the sea life. Upon arriving back at the dock we were immediately emailed vouchers that we can take three years to use. That in and of itself is a guarantee to me that they care about their customers and want their patrons to have a lovely, well watching excursion.

There is a Galley on board the ship for food purchases. 4. Two boats can go out at the same time depending on the crowds. Lines will be long and they will take your picture before you board, (A novelty idea by them to get you to buy a photo of yourselves after debarking). We opted out politely. *Note: We went to the top floor which was all seats. Expect to be chilly. Standing by the rails on top minimal room. Downstairs more room but more crowded, an enclosed area, 3 co-ed bathrooms and Galley. *Final thoughts: Having a physical crew member narrative at top on the microphone was actually a good way to pass the time and learn a few things about what we would encounter. We have a whales "Tale" to speak of when we get back home. The Review Guru* Long Island NY

Best thing to do, go in as early as possible, do some things, take a break, go back again after 3. If you're early, you can get a parking spot then work from there. If you are flexible on time, take advantage of the shuttles, but be warned, they may be full, and they don't run every 10-15 minutes, so plan accordingly. I would be in the park by 7, have plans maybe on a tour in Bar Harbor late morning or early afternoon, then head back after 4, and I got to all the must-do's, ie hiked the Beehive, the Bubbles, Cadillac Mountain sunrise and sunset (reserve this early as spots sell out, I booked mine 3 months in advance the minute they released and they were sold out shortly later, especially sunrise tickets), Jordan Pond and popovers, Bass Harbor Lighthouse, as well as some boat tours in the area, including very successful whale and puffin watching. For more hints and tips, I watched some YouTube videos, there's great info out there, especially the videos from Ash, a former park ranger, who has loads of helpful tips to get around and not spend your trip sitting in traffic or waiting in a parking spot.

We had to watch for large boats through the main channels. One side of the island provided choppy paddling conditions which was 'fun' and unique. The other side of the island was much calmer and relaxed. Our guide provided interesting tidbits of info about the island as we progressed. I kind of wished we would have had a few designated photo ops areas. I didn't really feel like I could take my time to get my camera out as I needed to keep up or didn't want to miss what she was saying. As a result, no one in our group really took any pics.
