History

Established in 2003.

In 2003, Island Style Dance Studio & Performing Company, L.L.C. was founded. In 2012 Island Style Dance Studio added Shotokan Karate to their curriculum. In 2013 Island Style Dance Studio created a ballroom technique program to their curriculum as a way to support and supplement school ballroom programs. In 2015, the Alpine Junior High Medley Team and Performing Teams were dissolved by Alpine School District and the program merged with Island Style. The program has now expanded to include six teams and about one hundred dancers. In 2014 Island Style Dance Studio added "cross-training" classes such as ballet, jazz, and contemporary.

Meet the Business Owner: Lani P.

Lani continued the Polynesian dance tradition by taking up her mother's business and moving to Orem, Utah. Lani in turn taught the next generation of the family and also began teaching youth around the community under the name 'Lani's School of Polynesian Dance.' In 2003 she founded Island Style Dance Studio and from there grew her program to make high quality technical training available to anyone with a passion for dance.

Today, me and my kids wanted to play basketball in the gym. Many of the hoops were much lower than 10 feet. Not a big deal. we went and talked to a couple of the girls behind the desk to ask them to raise the hoops so that we could play basketball at regulation height. One of the girls stood up to talk to me and said, "no, I think all of the hoops are at the right height. " I responded and said, "no, many of them are around seven or 8 feet. They should be at 10 feet. "She looked at me like I was speaking a different language and said no I believe we can't adjust the height of the hoops. I realize that maybe I was speaking to someone who had only worked there for a little while and maybe didn't know the rules or the procedures around raising and lowering the hoops. So I said, "I believe we can raise the hoops and you can use that tool (pointing at the tool by her) to raise them. If you get a chance, please help us raise one of these hoops to 10 feet. " I thought that I was really nice and respectful. What happened is nobody ever came out to help us raise the hoops to 10 feet they just sort of ignored our request. Not the end of the world, we still love this place. But I hope in the future, the staff is trained and able to assist in these types of things.

Just before sunset, the whole canyon was warmly lit - glistening in grandeur - begging to be photographed. We were short on time - needing to return to the Bonneville Shoreline Trailhead (about 1.75 miles away) before dark but this scene beaconed us in such a way that we had to press on up its steep steps - curious to see how the view might shift with each step! Leaving the trail with only a taste of what these Dry Canyon trails could offer, we placed this high on our list of considerations for a post-work hike!

There is a little spot where someone had built a fire (not sure if allowed) where you can rest and enjoy the lake views. For something intermediate there is a trail that ascends further into a meadow that is a great place to rest for lunch. I recommend good sun block and a hat on very sunny days since there is very little coverage most of the trail. This is perfect for a family hike on the weekend, or a relaxing hike even during the weekdays.

WE ARE OWED AN APOLOGY FOX HOLLOW…read more My boyfriend golfed fox hollow on March 2nd. Let me start by saying he is a very experienced golfer, he golfs 18 holes numerous times a week at many courses throughout the Salt Lake and Utah Valley. He is more than accustomed to golf etiquette and is very patient with courses when things are just moving slow on the course. His 1:00 tee time was delayed by 10-15 minutes. By the 4th hole, a gentleman from two groups behind them drove his cart over to them and told them to speed up their play. My boyfriend and his playing partners politely explained they've been waiting at every tee box and understood the course was just playing slower. He drove off and said have a nice day. This man was not the course Marshall, just someone from a random group. At the 11th hole, the same man began taunting my boyfriend's group telling them to speed up. This continued from hole 11 thru 18. Even though it was obvious that my boyfriends group could not speed up their pace of play as they were waiting on the group in front of them, and if they would have allowed this taunting gentleman to play through, it would not have accomplished anything as the gentleman would have then been waiting on the same party my boyfriends group was. Normally we would chalk this up as poor sportsmanship and golf etiquette of random people on the golf course. However.... This gentleman proceeded to drive up to my boyfriend and yell homophobic slurs. At which time it was uncovered this gentleman is an employee of Fox Hollow Golf Course by the name of Mike. Who was sporting a Mohawk, skinny denim jeans and a zip up hoodie. Not only is it incredibly upsetting that an EMPLOYEE would be ruining a paying customers experience by taunting and belittling a customer, but his homophobic slurs while representing a course he is employed by are disgraceful. As an employee of the course on or off the clock, if you are playing on the course you should be showing the utmost professionalism. Including dressing in true golf appropriate attire and not in street clothes. We will not give our money to Fox Hollow ever again, and strongly encourage any one that is LGBTQ+ or is an ally to rethink giving your money to these people. We will be following up with a better business bureau review as I truly think the amount of taunting my boyfriend went through was a sign of discrimination as Mike believed my boyfriend as Gay based off the slur he yelled. Do better Fox Hollow.
