This was a cute local smoothie place nearby that we stopped by multiple times during our trip. The first time we came here, I tried the Blueberry Bliss (almond milk, blueberries, banana, vanilla whey, vanilla yogurt, and almond butter) with added spinach, and it was delicious. After that, I kept trying other smoothies like the Island Smoothie Power Up and The Green Room, but they were all flavorless -- almost as if they had been made with unripe fruit. The consistency was also really icy and not creamy at all, even though there was a banana in it. The service is great though and the menu here will definitely give you some inspiration of smoothies that you could try recreating at home.

This place is a family vacation favorite! We love their acai bowls and smoothies. If you grab a coupon book from Tim Buck II plaza, you can get a free cold brew with a purchase of an acai bowl. The bowls are refreshing with lots of fresh fruits and they can make substitutions. I think the price is a bit high for the bowls given the portion size, but these things are always expensive. It's a good cool summertime treat. There's a few tables of seating inside and a cute bench and neon sign outside to sit and take pictures. My main gripe with the place is their hours - they close at 3pm every day! We tried to go twice after 3pm, not realizing that it was closed already. It would have been a perfect after-beach kind of treat had they been open.

Lots of great healthy options for breakfast, snacks, or lunch. Really good smoothies!!!

Visited this place several times while on vacation and it didn't disappoint. The açaí bowls were delicious and there was plenty of variety. We also tried the smoothies and even asked if they recommended anything for a hangover and the owner instantly gave us a suggestion which did the trick for our friend. I also tired the avocado toast which was fresh and filling! Overall nothing we ever ordered disappointed, staff was friendly and the vibe was welcoming! Highly recommend

Do you want a refreshing, healthy way to start your day amongst a sea of beer and gluttonous beach food? Do you enjoy a colorful açaí bowl? Do you want a fresh, veggie wrap with homemade hummus? If you answered yes to any of these, come to Island Smoothie. We went twice during our recent beach trip and enjoyed the island powerup smoothie, blueberry orange mango, and a unique cinnamon, espresso, and banana smoothie, as well as above mentioned veggie wrap (my vegetarian friend was raving about it for days). The owner grew up coming to Corolla and his family built their place in the 1970s. He lives here full time and was SO genuine with recommendations and nice conversation. LOVE this place!

Great little place for a healthier option lunch. So many places in Corolla that are all about the bread. My smoothie, king of the melons, was good but a bit thick, really good flavor though. This sandwich though! Chipotle chicken club, served on a pita with a chipotle aioli was so good! The girl at the front counter was amazing. Asked a few questions and was more than happy to answer and give advice. Very pleasant experience overall. Only reason it was a five star review was due to the lack of seating options. We kind of feel on top of each other in the place but it's understandable that that can't be helped sometime.

I purchased my first banana strawberry smoothie in the new Duck location in Scarborough Lane shopping center. It cost $8 for a regular size and when I got it it tasted watered down and no trace of banana in the smoothie. I basically bought a cup of ice. Don't recommend. Not doe the hefty price of $8. And I was a local and did not even offer to give a discount. read more

Island Smoothie was one of my favorite restaurants I visited during my OBX trip. After 5 days of eating unhealthy food, I was ready for a better option; I was not disappointed. Walking in, it is a smaller place but it was clean and the staff was very welcoming. The girl taking our order at the counter answered any questions we had happily. I had a migraine and asked her if she had a recommendation for a smoothie that may help, she immediately did which I thought was great! I also choose the veggie wrap which was delicious! Honestly, I wish I could give this place 10 stars. I have a treenut allergy and the workers were very accommodating and made sure my açaí bowl was made with different milk and separate from everything else. Was not impressed at all with Island Smoothie. 2 different flavors, (chocolate Peanut butter and Bob's Colada) 3 total large smoothies and they all tasted like watered down fruit, lacked flavor and sweetness. Could not even finish them. No flavor at all. Definitely will not go again. read more

Just stopped in for an açaí bowl and I was not disappointed. I had the Blackbeard's treasure (no coconut for me!) and am already planning to head back for lunch. The menu was bigger than I anticipated and I can't wait to try some sandwiches. Island Smoothie is our first stop when we head to the beach. Super fresh ingredients and such creative recipes. The Corolla Surfer and Gulf Stream Smoothies are our favorites and the Crab Cake Sandwich is soooooo good. The owners are very experienced with special diets and food allergies. If you have food allergies, let them know when you order and they'll take extra precautions like using a sterile blender canister. It's seriously one of the very few restaurants where my son can safely eat. read more

Wonderful! Large menu with many healthy options for smoothies, açaí bowls, coffee drinks, etc. A tad pricey but you get what you pay for. Portions are large and satisfying. Fresh fruit, hand prepared in front of you. We ordered 2 different smoothies and the Sunset açaí bowls and everything is delicious. I appreciated the use of almond and coconut milk for those of us trying to avoid dairy. Food made with real fruit, not sugary syrups or wit additives. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick, healthy meal or snack. read more

I have never written a review but I love this place! We are on vacation and we brought my daughter who has life threatening peanut allergies in and the staff and manager we're amazing. They used freshly sanitized equipment, fresh fruit from the front counter..they went above and beyond to make sure her smoothie was safe. We will be back several times this vaca! The first friendly service we've experienced in NC. The bowls appeared small but don't be fooled; they're the perfect size. The açaí had the perfect consistency and all of the fruit had just the right ripeness. They are well staffed and we couldn't believe how quickly we received our bowls. The manager (possibly owner?) checked in on us to ask about our experience. One of the friendly cooks even gave us some other restaurant recommendations. Overall, super happy with our visit and will return to try their other menu items. read more

It is so great to have a tasty and healthy alternative in Corolla. Everything we had was great - Ocean breeze acai bowl, Island power up smoothie, and strawberry pineapple smoothie. The staff was very friendly and helpful making our short stop in a wonderful experience. You MUST go here! Island Smoothie is, hands-down, my favorite smoothie shop of all time. I've travelled to quite a few places in the US, Asia, and Aruba, and nothing compares to the quality of this place. The workers are extremely kind, professional, and truly care about you. I was on vacation in the OuterBanks last week and went here nearly every day. I highly recommend the Açai bowls and the Morning Espresso smoothie. You literally watch them put every ingredient in before they blend the smoothies, and the result is an extremely fresh and great-tasting smoothie. Definitely try Island Smoothie while you're in the Outerbanks!! read more

First time eating here and hopefully not the last. A refreshing change from the proliferation of bar and grill operations in the Outer Banks. The acai bowls were surprisingly filling and quite tasty, the smoothies were made from fresh and pure ingredients, and the chicken salad sandwich was superb. This place is incredible- so incredible that I wish there was one in every town. It's a small local business with a TON of healthy smoothies and juice options- honestly the creativity and options are endless. Every time I've visited the owner is there giving me guidance and making helpful suggestions- like adding Hemp protein instead of Vegan because it's creamier and tossing in an B12 shot compliments of the shop! The place is charming and clean, the staff is friendly, and I love that they also have poke bowls, wraps, sandwiches and more. This is a daily must-visit when I'm in OBX. read more

Island Smoothie was our every day breakfast spot the entire time we were there! The owner and his brother knew us by order the second day we were there!!! They even nicknamed my sandwich the munchkin style! They came over and chatted with us, they treated us like family, I can't speak high enough of this place! We will be back! Amazing Açaí bowls!!!! My kids spotted this place when we stopped at the grocery store. We tried 4 açaí bowls : sunset, island time, sunset and the power bowl. Each one was fresh and refreshing!! Started in 2015 as a smoothie only shop. We slowly rolled out Acai Bowls, Sandwiches and Salads.

Meet the Business Owner: Doug and Rob K.

Our family's love for Corolla began in the late 1960's when our grandparents bought land with only a promise that one day there would be a road and electricity. My brother and I have always dreamed of one day running a business and living in Corolla. Our dream became a reality when we decided that the Corolla area was lacking a healthy alternative for breakfast and lunch. Our all fresh, all day way of thinking provides the best smoothies, acai bowls, sandwiches and salads on the OBX.

Where do they get their furniture?

Hi Maddy! We get our furniture from Island Attic in Duck NC. Its all made from reclaimed boat wood from Indonesia. If your ever back in the obx, make sure to stop by their shop (after ours of course :) its one of my favorite shops in the obx!

Initially, I was bummed because cortados were not on the menu. I asked the barista if she would try to make one. She said sure. I gave her general directions and she walked to the espresso machine. A couple of minutes later she handed me a cup with two shots of espresso and a stainless steel pitcher with steamed milk. The barista said, "Why don't you add the milk in so you get it just the way you want." I thought this was a thoughtful gesture. I thanked her and made my cortado. We chatted a bit. It turned out she is Thai and my husband is Thai; and I love to talk about Thailand. I took a few pictures. We exchanged goodbyes and I exited the cafe with a genuine smile and a very positive impression of the Outer Bean. Smiles are free and they can elevate and/or improve any situation. Staff were extremely rude to my family. they were more interested in playing with the teenage and preteen girls in short shorts. it was so loud the staff couldn't hear me when ringing up order. they left off part of my order. when I brought this up staff stated that they have excellent customer reviews therefore in this instance it was customers fault. still trying to figure out how it's customers fault that the staff are too busy playing grab ass to pay attention to customers. I came here for a healthy option, and leaving here with no intent to return regardless of the sub par smoothie. please educate your teen staff on appropriate customer interactions vs being paid to chat up young girls. read more

Discovered this new place on my way onto OBX at the beginning of our week. Clean & beautiful atmosphere (I love all of the fresh fruit on the shelves). The menu has so many great smoothie options - fruit, veggie, coffee. I really enjoyed the raspberry one (had it several times) but also had the opportunity to taste test a few different ones while waiting in line. Perfect amount of fresh fruit and not too sweet. The servings are gigantic and really hit the spot on a hot day after the beach. The owner is an incredibly friendly, down-to-earth guy. Island Smoothie is a fantastic addition to the Corolla area. i have a severe tree nut and chocolate allergy and when i looked at the island smoothie menu, it said their bowls were made with almond milk. so when i got to island smoothie the man at the desk in front of the store was very helpful and replaced the almond milk with strawberry juice and also gave me many other options. he also allowed me to look at the ingredients on the granola (which can sometimes have something i'm allergic too). when i got my açaí bowl, i was so pleased that it was made to fit ME and they even noted on the top "allergy". island smoothie is a great place to go when you're craving something healthy and sweet! read more

I want to start out by saying that this place was ok- but I would never rave about it. They never specify what shakes belong to the person. AT LEAST WRITE THE PERSONS NAME ON IT! When I went, since my friend has a nut allergy, they asked for their smoothie to be made in a seperate blender, and they gave them the wrong one! It gets really hectic and packed in there. The one thing I do recommend is the " Peanut Butter and Jelly" bowl. It is açai and peanut butter, with granola and fruit on top. If you like healthy smoothies that are made there you may like it. read more

We stopped at Island Smoothie the other day while vacationing nearby. I ordered the poke bowl and it was honestly the best one I've ever had! It was so fresh, and the flavors went together so well. You have to try it! My sister ordered a smoothie and loved it too. We liked it so much that we went back today before we head home from vacation. The staff is so friendly, and there was one guy in particular that was very helpful to us! I highly recommend Island Smoothie whenever you're in the area. I spent this past week on an exhausting beach trip and I wouldn't have made it through without Island Smoothie. The owners are passionate about their work and have created endless options for delicious and healthy smoothies. The "Power Up" smoothie is exceptional and gave me energy for the whole day. I also loved the turkey and avocado sandwich and the acai bowls. Absolutely outstanding service, even in a time of uncertainty. I got the peach Açaí bowl for 11 dollars (a little pricey, but you most definitely get what you pay for). Also I need for my server, Kyle, to know that I absolutely appreciate his enthusiasm, even when things don't look to be too good in the world. I cannot recommend this place enough! We've been there two days in a row now and plan to return as much as we can while we're in the outer banks. The food, especially the açaí bowls, were overwhelming delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. It's a great value for what you get! Staff were too busy talking with teenagers and friends that the young lady taking our order left off a sandwich after I repeated it twice to her. I realized after receiving my smoothies and looking at the receipt that they left it off the order. Staff didn't take any responsibility for mistake or rectify saying it was customers fault.
