Seth and Island Security get a five star rating from me. Wish I could give them more stars! First of all, they've installed both our security systems in both our houses. Mike is super competent, responsible, and punctual. Then we had a situation with our broken intercom system. I posted on next-door looking for help. Seth immediately messaged that he could help me. He took it on as a personal project to search out this intercom system (which was no longer made), get it sourced and sent to him, and Mike installed it, and yes it worked the first time around! When I walked in the house Christmas music was playing in all the rooms on the intercom system! He could have tried to do a major upsell but instead he tried to do exactly what I wanted which was repair what I had. If things work I don't want to replace them, I want to repair them. Seth gave me constant updates on the project, and was always courteous, charming, and considerate. I would highly recommend Island Security to anyone. Zero stars. When we had problems with our system loudly beeping every 30 seconds. We kept calling the number but it was an answering service. They said that they were leaving an urgent message. 6 hours later and 6 calls the answering service would no long leave messages because the technician was "angry" because we kept calling. They won't help us until tomorrow. The beeping is out side our bedroom and we can't get away from it. We have to work tomorrow Now without any sleep. The company claims to have terrific service. I contacted a security safe & lock company and found out they do not sell security systems. I asked if there is a company they would recommend and was told that they use Island Security. When I called Island Security I talked to Seth and he couldn't have been nicer. When he heard my situation he recommended an appropriate solution and had Mike come out to install it. I recently had Island Security hook up monitoring for my warehouse in Tukwila. I called on a Friday and had one of there techs waiting for me at 8am on the following Monday. I've had ADT at other locations and have been quite disappointed in there not so prompt service and higher than normal rates. I have been a customer of Island Security for 23 years and I have had the same alarm system during that time period. I had a power surge in my home during a recent storm. My alarm system stopped working. I was leaving on a two week trip the following day. I called early in the morning and Seth was able to arrange for his technician to come to my home that day and make the necessary repairs to my system. We had Island Security install an alarm system for us in 2008. They were on time, on budget and did a good job. They explained how the system worked and we have never had a problem with the system or the monitoring service. The owner is a bit rough around the edges, but he gets the job done. My only complaint is that they seem to be a bit expensive...their 'trip charge' seems high, though I really only have 1 other place to compare to. I would use them again. read more

Worst Customer Service Possible - DO NOT GO WITH THEM! We have been a customer for 3 years and have NOTHING BUT BAD EXPERIENCES with them. Initial alarm install was higher than competitors, but decided it was good to go with a local company - SO WRONG. Somehow we got wrangled into a 5 year contract, but WE WOULD RATHER EAT THE COST THAN STAY WITH ISLAND SECURITY. Issues (not an exhaustive list, just the ones today): 1. They were almost impossible to get in contact with unless they wanted money. 2. They charge for all phone calls to their number if they deem it could have been answered by their cryptic website. 3. We could not get additional sensors or the system modified or tuned without many calls and emails. 4. We had several false alarms that we were charged for that turned out to be a motion detector that should never have been installed where it was (Island Security were supposed to be the experts, but it was our issue somehow at $280 in fines later). 5. They had given us a written statement that Seattle Police took 3-4 hours to respond so they recommended we go with a contracted security service - this info on SPD turned out to be false. 6. Had at least one alarm where security never showed up - only found out about it when we were billed as if they had. All in all, this is a really poor execution for a small company that should be doing everything to keep goodwill among its customer base. Going to the big national firm, Broadview/Brinks - at least they answer their phone. Recently got an alarm installed and I could not be more pleased, I had ADT and had way too many issues with false alarms and not being able to get in contact with anyone, was told someone would be out and never showed so decided to support a local company! Mike was the name of the tech that came out he was very personable and showed me everything I needed to know along with answering my many questions. I had forgotten how to bypass a zone and I called and was surprised to speak to the owner who was not only extremely helpful but so nice and very funny. Feels good to finally feel safe and to know that the owner actually cares and takes the time to interact with his customers instead of being put on hold and having to speak to someone from a call center. I just got an email that there was a comment made on this review (FROM 4 YEARS AGO!), so I look it up. I find it mind blowing that the owner decided to comment on my review now. Apparently it didn't matter at the time that his company provided the worst customer service experience I've had in 40 years, but now he feels the need to respond for some random reason. And he says he is sorry that they couldn't please me. Probably wouldn't have picked these guys over ADT had I thought it through. Had an existing system and it cost $225 to get the 2 add-ons I wanted when activated which ADT would have given for free. Tech told me to test it after a month of having it, which I did. A snotty rep called and told me the police were on the way which meant they hadn't followed their own procedure of calling our home to get the password and then calling our mobile phone first. Glad I tested it so at least I know it works. When this contract ends it's ADT for us. read more

I was a loyal customer of Island security for 12 years and now cannot believe that I stayed with them for so long. For over 6 months I have been trying to cancel my service since I no longer use it. I now have a cheaper and much more modern service. I have tried to cancel through email, phone, and mail several times, only to be assured that all would be taken care of. Instead, my credit card keeps getting charged and when I call, I am told that the owner will have to review my contract to see if "I am allowed" to terminate it. After over a decade of paying them, this shouldn't even be a question. I am still fighting this (it started in Feb.) and it is still not resolved and my annual payment has not been refunded... Returned from a trip to find a msg from Island Security about updating my system. After many unreturned phone calls, went from wanting to upgrade my Island Security system to replacing Island Security. Kept calling until I actually got a person (as I'd learned there was no point in leaving a message asking to be called back as no one ever did.) and advised I would be canceling my account and to please stop the automatic billing. Was assured this would be taken care of. Called again on 10-1 and was told that their records showed my account was in fact cancelled. However, my VISA bill that I received last week has a charge on it. Called Island Security on Friday and left a message with an answering service (at 3pm); today is Wed. and guess what? No return call. Have filed a complaint with BBB. Maybe Island Security will return their phone call! read more

Island Security cannot be trusted. Seth, the owner is rude and condescending. Their work is sloppy at best and the company reflects a serious lack of integrity from the top. Case and point. I just got off of the phone after being yelled at for several minutes by Seth (the owner) because I asked him to finish hooking up my security cameras today as promised rather than next week sometime. The work was actually scheduled for last Monday but the installer (Mike, who claimed to be a part owner) said he needed more time to complete the wire rerouting and did not want to start and not be able to finish in the 2 hours he had scheduled. We rescheduled for today for completing the rerouting. The installer showed up today, disconnected the security cameras and announced he had to go to another job. Said he would be back next Wednesday to finish. When I called Seth (the owner) to discuss this sudden about face and ask him to redirect the installer to get my cameras on line he attempted to call my staff liars and actually started yelling at me. When I asked him to stop yelling he actually started screaming at the top of his lungs followed by the statement " that's what it sounds like when I yell." I told him that I had had enough with his childish behavior and would be hanging up if he continued to yell. His respons was to say he was going to hang up on me, which he did rather poorly because his speaker phone was still on and I could still hear him cussing. I would characterize the experience as degenerate and sad. Certainly not going to continue working with Island Security. Got someone else finishing the camera hook up today. read more
