Next, we stopped at concessions which was so so cheap which I appreciated and the popcorn was so good....naughty good filled with popcorn and salt. The theatre is small and classic with a little concessions area and nice bathrooms. It's a single-level theatre but the seats are angled well enough that no one's going to block your view of the stage. Really, any seat is a good seat. I attended the inaugural Virginia Cat Festival (day 1) here, with Jackson Galaxy as the keynote speaker. I enjoyed my visit all around and the venue was clearly clean and well-kept. I'd attend another event there in the future.

It's a small/intimate experience, fewer than one hundred seats. I don't really recommend the restaurant if you're dining before the show. We arrived promptly for a 5:45 reservation. Our server asked if we were seeing the show (which started at 7), and we confirmed that we were. We placed our order and the food finally came out at 6:45. No time for a leisurely dinner. While everything tasted pretty good, the food wasn't hot. The manager comped our drinks because we had to rush through our meal, which we appreciated. Friends we were with said that was the second time they've had slow service there. Maybe they need more help in the kitchen, I'm not sure.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed. Every interaction was positive--from check-in, to the snack bar, to the performers engaging with the audience. Brandon and Hannah were especially great on stage, and they even took time afterward to show the kids magic tricks in the shop, which was a big hit. The theater is small and intimate (around 125 seats), which works in its favor. Even though the show wasn't completely sold out, the audience energy was high and made the experience feel lively and interactive. We were seated toward the back, but audience participation happened throughout the room, and several people from our group were still selected. Our group ranged in age from 5 to 75, and everyone stayed engaged the entire time. The show was family-friendly, upbeat, and fast-paced, with a nice mix of impressive magic and personal stories about the performers and how magic has shaped their lives. Overall, it was a fun, memorable experience for all ages. As locals, we're very glad we went--and we'll definitely be back!

They perform about six shows September through June, with a mix of plays and musicals in their own comfortable theater. Tickets sell for under $25 a show. Season ticket holders can easily exchange their tickets for another performance if they cannot attend the one they originally purchased. Parking is free in their lot. Concessions of beverages and candy support the theater. Local artists exhibit their work on the walls, which patrons can enjoy before the show and at intermission.

For a small company in a nice but intimate facility this was a fun show with great talent. The director did an outstanding job choosing great talent for the leads ... Mrs. Hasler ... perfect. Good costumes and I liked her 50's hairdos. Lovely Georgia Hester the sexy secretary. She dances well too. The voices of several were terrific especially Wren Beavers and Andrew Christensen. Jeff Nicoloff, his improvisations were terrific. Good comedic acting. Just thinking about it makes me smile. I love theatre and this was a wonderful show right here in Williamsburg. The Virginia Stage Company's "A Very Merry Christmas Carol" at the Wells Theatre has become a…read moreholiday tradition for our family and this year did not disappoint. The entire audience seemed excited for the performance, with the Christmas spirit felt throughout the lobby and theater. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The available concessions were tasty, though the spiked eggnog was sorely missed this year. One recommendation would be to improve communication regarding drink availability at the bars. If certain beverages are not served at the theater entrance bar (like hot cocoa and coffee), they should not appear on that menu, or guests should be informed before waiting in line. I witnessed dozens of theatergoers being told after a long wait that hot drinks were only available at the side bar by the front windows which created a lot of unnecessary frustration. The Wells Theatre has a wonderful antique nostalgia while remaining well maintained and very clean. We were fortunate to experience the show from a completely different seat location that previous years, on the opposite side of the house, and the updated writing and script changes were enough to keep the production feeling fresh and engaging. We also appreciated the intermission being placed after the First Spirit rather than after the Second, as in previous years, as it made the acts feel more balanced. Additionally, the return of the Third Spirit's in-audience entrance was definitely appreciated.
