I visited Island Reggae Kitchen on Saturday, and the food was so good it pulled me right back on Sunday. On my first visit, I ordered the oxtails with rice and peas along with a second plate of stew peas and steamed rice. Everything was incredibly flavorful, tender, and seasoned just right -- true comfort food that tasted homemade. The next day, I returned and tried even more dishes: the brown stew chicken with ground provisions, another order of oxtails with rice and peas, a small chicken soup, and a fried chicken plate with rice and peas. Every single item was delicious, hot, and full of authentic island flavor. You can tell they put real care into their cooking. Island Reggae Kitchen delivered consistently great food all weekend, and it's the kind of spot that makes you want to try the whole menu. I placed an order for delivery from this establishment. I ordered the large Oxtail plate and a Sorrel Ginger drink. The majority of this 'large' Oxtail plate is rice and peas and vegetables, not Oxtail. The portion looks suitable for a small order. The Oxtails are very small and also very fatty. You're receiving mostly bones and fat with little meat. Truly a dissatisfying experience. The Sorrel that most Jamaican restaurants sell is made fresh. The Sorrel I received is bottled, with entirely too much sugar - literally 110% of a day's worth of sugar in one bottle. Had I known the Sorrel is bottled, not fresh and full of sugar, I would have ordered a Ting or I could have omitted a beverage altogether. This place is definitely getting over on their customers. I haven't eaten a lot of Jamaican food in my lifetime, but I have had quality Jamaican food. Island Reggae Kitchen is lacking. Try: Country Style Jamaican Restaurant in Inglewood if you want a good Oxtail plate. Even the small plate is still plentiful. The Jerk Spot Jamaican Restaurant on Venice Blvd. is also really good. I've had their Jerk Shrimp, Salmon Salad (the best!) and Rasta Pasta. Even with the pasta and shrimp being sides, the sides are large and packed with flavor. The Salmon Salad is so fresh, delicious and the dressing should be bottled and sold. You have better options re: Jamaican food. Explore them. read more

Was in the mood for a patty and cocoa bread, so decided to give Island Regards Kitchen. I really should've have skipped this spot. Stepped into this nice and welcoming ambiance of this restaurant and was greeted promptly and kindly. As I picked my order up I should've realized something was off as the bag with my patty wasn't hot. It wasn't cold but still just wasn't the right temperature. Add misery to it and the cocoa bread wasn't fresh. At least my bottled drink was refreshing. I used to be a regular here for years. Local, authentic...I looked past the lack of warmth and communication with customers because after speaking with a Jamaican friend, she confirmed that that isn't personal; it's a cultural thing that comes off as unfriendly. Pre-COVID, as with all other businesses the prices were fairer, the portions were larger, the food was fresher and tasted better. Unfortunately, my most recent visit will be my last. Disappointing. There isn't a single thing I can point to but the last patties I purchased were...not good. Not nearly good enough for five dollars per. The food is just...meh...and I've has numerous items on the menu. And although I get the cultural thing, the lady's demeanor last time I visited was just a turn-off for me. I was very disappointed with the cow foot, plantain, jerk chicken, and stew fish. Overall bland. It was just a salt and curry taste, no other flavor. And they put cow foot soup or stew on top of rice & peas. They should've put it in a separate bowl and/ or serve with white rice. Plantain was hard and probably not ripe. We were in the mood for some Jamaican food and ended up at Island Reggae Kitchen. The interior is quite small with only a handful of seats for dine-in. There was single employee so service was a bit slow, but we ordered two lunches. I will echo other reviews that it did appear that some meals are pre-assembled and then just microwaved to heat, but that said, the food was very tasty. I had the worst experience ever on march 21 2025. I had order dinner from uber eats and as time goes by a little bit over a hour the uber driver called and said they do not have your order. I was like what happened, he then explained like she didn't wanna talked. I decided to asked the uber driver can I talk to someone that works there. He decided to walk back in and let me talk to the lady who had told him they do not have my order. So I had asked will I be getting my order cause the money had came out of my account and at that time "she said we do not have your order and I'm done talking to you cause just like I told the uber driver the same thing I have nothing else to say" right after that I hear her tell the uber driver " to get out of my store" bad service and I order Jamaica food all the time from different places and never had a treat like that. read more

I put in an online order for some Jerk Chicken because I was craving some spicy Chicken. This hit on a lot of levels! Spice was just right and the skin was absolutely delicious. When I tell you it was delicious that is just what I mean! It wasn't greasy tasting or over seasoned. I'm a foodie so I'm very particular about how my food is prepared and presented. The presentation was excellent and it was plenty of food for two adults to eat from. My boyfriend and I were very pleased with this hidden treasure. The food was out quickly, which is always awesome, but I should have left when I noticed he wasn't wearing a mask. Island Reggae Kitchen is unassuming and tucked away in a small shopping plaza just off Crenshaw Blvd. There are only 4-5 small tables, so dining in might be a challenge during peak hours. Lots of memorabilia decorating the walls and a small plasma television for your viewing pleasure. Reggae music was playing on the sound system. Alright, let's talk about the food. Since this was my first time eating Jamaican food, I don't have much of a comparison base. However, I will say that it was DELICIOUS, for lack of a better adjective. GINGER WATERMELON JUICE: You're going to want one of these. Sweet, but not to sweet. It tastes great AND quenches your thirst. Go easy on the ice if you want to enjoy more. BEEF PIE: Not sure if this is the correct name, but its what it most closely resembles. Think of a hybrid between a taco and a cheeseburger. Great snack to munch on while waiting for your entree. Wish I would have gotten a couple more. JERK CHICKEN: Why can't all chicken taste this good? Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and served. A little chewy at times, but very tender overall. Note the sizes- mini, small, large (no medium). I ordered the small portion, but it felt like a large by most dining standards. Prices are competitive, but not cheap. One ginger watermelon juice, one beef pie, and two jerk chicken entrees came out to $27. Totally worth it in my opinion. PRO-TIP: Check out the $6.50 lunch special served Monday-Friday. read more
