Patty and cocoa bread with drink
    Travis W.

Was in the mood for a patty and cocoa bread, so decided to give Island Regards Kitchen. I really should've have skipped this spot. Stepped into this nice and welcoming ambiance of this restaurant and was greeted promptly and kindly. As I picked my order up I should've realized something was off as the bag with my patty wasn't hot. It wasn't cold but still just wasn't the right temperature. Add misery to it and the cocoa bread wasn't fresh. At least my bottled drink was refreshing. Not sure if I would take the time to come back here since they couldn't get something so simple right.

Sometimes they don't have any patties left which is frustrating but the food is always bussing! Been going here since 2020 with my ex.

Solid...this is your local neighborhood spot that deserves your support...I had the Curry Goat (the benchmark for all Caribbean spots)...I really enjoyed my dish...the plantains we're dry...I prefer mine softer & sweeter...the Rice & Peas were on point as well as the cabbage...I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.

We were in the mood for some Jamaican food and ended up at Island Reggae Kitchen. The interior is quite small with only a handful of seats for dine-in. There was single employee so service was a bit slow, but we ordered two lunches. I will echo other reviews that it did appear that some meals are pre-assembled and then just microwaved to heat, but that said, the food was very tasty. I am always a fan of oxtail, and the flavors here were very rich. I was a bit disappointed in the drinks though, they tasted very artificial. Prices were fair.

this is the Large Jerk Chicken Meal

the food mainly the chicken was extra rubbery like they've been cooking it for weeks letting it sit on low in a pot also the prices are ridiculous it says the price is 18$ for a large meal so i ordered two and it came 60 dollars now granted i ate the rice and the greens thats because i got finessed every was suppose to be 36 somthing take my advice never ever in life go here im extremely disappointed and pissed

I provide that information because sadly, the food tasted as if I was served the portions of chicken curry, cabbage, and mixed vegetables that had been sitting in the pots all day or had been reheated from previous days. This truly hurt my hurt as it has been a long time coming for a Caribbean restaurant to arrive in Long Beach. The chicken curry lacked balanced flavor due to it sitting and seemed to have more and more curry added and no other spices to play on the notes from the chicken. So it was just an overcooked, concentrated, high sodium, scotch bonnet(ed), abused curry with meat that was struggling to maintain its right to be chicken but the flavors of chicken had been executed. Second, spoiled cabbage anyone? I knew it as soon as I opened it. It smelled of cabbage that had been forced to over stay its welcome and by the portion size, I was to see the extra servings of it as an award but it just turned into a punishment. I truly believe, or at least want to, believe this was an off day and whoever permitted the "last of.." to be served was just off their game and will read this review and never make these mistakes again. I believe in you and am definitely willing to give this restaurant another try in the future. For now I need to take some time and recover. But please, I rooting for you, believe in you, and know that your love for the food and culture will step back up to the high quality standards it created!

Yes... you read that right, check in process. We live up the street and it was our first time trying this spot to finally see what the buzz was about. I paid for the food using Apple Pay and had my husband pick it up. I did read that when picking up, you need to have a matching ID and the CC used to pay. So I sent my husband with both. The security who checks you in gave him such a hard time about it and denied his entrance because it needs to be the same name as the person on the receipt! So I had to go. I arrived, parking is difficult to find although it's in a residential area. So after I showed him my ID, CC, and Email confirmation, he then has to write down all this info from your email?? He said the last 4 digits didn't match my CC, so I let him know I paid with Apple Pay. He then asked me to open my Apple Pay App to then look at the history?! The food is good and flavorful , but in LA, you can find that elsewhere without all the hassle. We will not be going back, that's for sure. Hope I can save someone a trip if they're traveling far for this to pick up for a friend or spouse.

Upon entering, the staff greeted me warmly and made me feel right at home. I was asked if I wanted to take my food to go or eat in, and I chose to eat inside, although most customers seem to order takeout. This restaurant is a labor of love; you can tell they pour their heart and soul into the dishes. I asked about popular items and was told both the chicken and ox tail were well-loved, with a personal preference for the chicken. I decided to try the ox tail, as it's not something I usually order. The Ox Tail Plate ($26) features five tender pieces of oxtail, served with rice and beans, potato salad, and plantains. The small side of potato salad was even better than I expected; it has a sweet flavor with bell peppers for a nice crunch, and it was one of the best I've ever had. The plantains were also nicely moist. Overall, it was a very satisfying lunch. I would definitely order the oxtail again, but I'm also curious to try the chicken plate next time. This is one of those places that if you know, you know. The owner mentioned they've been around since 1983 and don't advertise or use social media. It's all word-of-mouth, and you can tell they don't need it because business is thriving. I initially anticipated paying between $20-$23, so I was surprised to see the final price was $28. While it's on the pricier side, the cost includes tax, and there's no expectation of tipping, as there's no option on the payment tablet. It's still a bit expensive, but I understand labor costs are likely factored in. I truly believe you get what you pay for, and sometimes paying a bit more means better quality. This isn't an everyday splurge, but it's absolutely worth it as a treat! You absolutely have to try this place! You won't be disappointed. We're lucky to live in a city with such great options, but where else can you get authentic, home-cooked Belizean comfort food? Come here for the taste of Belize!
