Very nice selection of cute and casual clothes. However, customer service can use a HUGE upgrade. Two young girls were behind the register playing with their cellphones and one young girl was typing on a laptop. Not a single greeting to me. Mother with disabled daughter questioned brunette sitting behind counter about pricing. She showed cashier S10, which clearly looks like $10. Brunette says that means "1 size fits all & it's way too early in season for sales." So rude and condescending. The mother then pointed out the sign above the shirts that said $10. The girl snapped, "that's for a different shirt" Don't shop there if you have a disability, because they were not very helpful. I recently purchased a cute top from here for $28. After one wear for three hours and no wash, the top was completely ruined. The seams were coming apart and there is a two inch hole on the side of the shirt as a result. The quality of this shirt was awful. 31 days after my purchase I brought the shirt back to the store in hopes of an exchange, but was turned away because it was worn AND three days after the return policy. While I understand policy rules, a shirt that has been worn for 3 hours, not washed, and purchased for $28 should not be coming apart at the seams. It leaves a very poor representation of their company. I'll be thinking twice before purchasing anything from this store again. read more

Although the clothing is every high school / college VSCO girl's dream, the customer service here ruined my shopping experience. When we walked in, the large amount of girls staffed there (all under 20) stared at us while gossiping about Aruba and their classes back at school - at least that's what we overheard - making us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome while browsing. The system to get a changing room was confusing as the girls standing by there did not move to help us or inform us on what was available. Whenever I came out of the dressing room to show the rest of my party my clothes, I felt judged and stared at (not in a complimentary way): not a good sales tactic if you want me to buy these items. The selection of clothing at Island Gypsy is impressive and bountiful - which is why this has two instead of one stars - but too much clothing for the lack of space in the store. You are better off going to House of Lucky next door, the selection is more sophisticated and the staff there was much nicer. read more

Reallllly cute clothes here. I got an amazing top that I've worn a ton this summer. It is so trendy and they have a great selection. I've been a few times each time I've been in Lavallette this summer. The store itself is beautiful. Their prices are high but generally reasonable. I love 95% of what they sell and the other 5% is just too trendy for me but perfect for their customers. That being said: I only give three stars because it is not unique selection. My cousin had TWO tops from here that she bought earlier this summer from TJ Maxx for 1/3 of the price. One was an awesome crochet top that was over $40 here and only $12.99 at TJ Maxx. It was the same brand and identical to the one in the store. Obviously they have no control over who else sells their brands but they might want to be a little more careful about what they sell. They do have a good selection of very affordable and cute themed sweats. Usually the NJ sweatshirts are tacky but these are soft, cute and under $20. Second bad point, however, the staff isn't the brightest. I haven't seen a manager or adult who looks over 25 working there. However, it is also very difficult to pick out the staff. I've had to wait a lot for dressing rooms and two times I've asked a staff where they got their top, it was not from this store. Maybe TJ Maxx? ;) I also have noticed that they "clean" the merchandise right behind the counter on slow days. I wanted a top with a deodorant stain but I mentioned it to the girls working because I don't live in the area and didn't want to be stuck with a ruined top if it didn't come out. They were cleaning another stain and tried unsuccessful to get mine out because they did not have more of the same top. They couldn't and I still bought it because it was a cute top but I don't feel that it is a professional practice to do right on the counter, especially with other clothing. Obviously makeup and deodorant stains happen in a juniors clothing store and the clothing is perfectly saleable but I don't want to see it happening while I'm trying to shop/buy. I think it would be more professional to do this in the back or after store hours. I'll definitely go back but I'll be careful what I buy/check the discount stores first. read more

I generally know what I am looking for when I shop, so the indiferrence of the girl sales staff didn't faze me. However, if you need assistance, have the owner help. Nice store. Tons of basics. Mostly solid. A wall of Camus and bralettes. Right next to House of Lucky so both probably benefit from each other's traffic. Mix of brands of heard of and ones I haven't. Way too many clothes on the racks. So packed you couldn't even look at the clothes and it was difficult to pull them out. If I was in a hurry I would be frustrated. I always buy with caution here because the clothes are poorly made but I can usually get a few wears out of them. This time however I wore a jumper once, washed it on delicate in my machine that has no agitator as the instructions were hand wash and hang dry. When I looked at it after the wash the seams were absolutely shredded. After speaking with a manager she refused to issue an exchange, partial refund or credit. I get it as policy but on principle it left a bad taste. Lesson learned to expect very little. read more

Some nice clothes in there and a lot of staff but don't expect the courtesy of a greeting or offer of assistance. This older lady people keep referring to is a real gem - we mistakenly figured she was going to open the till to deal with long line of people trying to pay - nope - she grabbed some scissors to trim her bright yellow nails while we all watched. No hello at till, no "thanks for your business". Felt like they were doing us the favour. Owner might be happy with retail numbers or would have done something to change the vibe. I'm a frequent shopper in island gypsy, the 1st time I ever returned an item they would not refund my purchase or even give me a store credit. I purchased a dress for $48.00, I wore it 1 time and washed it per the tag , in cold water and hung to dry, the dress shrunk, enough to fit a 5 year old, I'm 52. The girl refused to return it and said she can steam it which should put it bank to its original form . I waited 15 minutes while she steamed it, she came out with the dress and still the same small size nothing changed , then she blamed it on the fabric and said they always shrink. I said so you're going to take it back , she said nope, can't , it's worn. I said yes u told you that and you should stand by your merchandise, she refused , I'll never shop here again , they just lost a major customer over $48.00 read more

This place is nice, considering. The store is a little on the small side and it gets crowded really quickly, so browsing through the racks is really aggravating for me. They sell Alex and Ani bracelets, which is honestly the only reason I would go into the store. The clothes are definitely on the pricier side which has prevented me from even trying one on. And the girls who work there definitely stand-offish. Another reason why I quickly pop in and out of the store to buy what I have in mind and leave. UPDATE: I bought earrings from Island Gypsy - it was one of the $10 earrings that are sold at the checkout counter. The pair broke after wearing them twice. I'm highly disappointed in the quality of the jewelry, sold at $10. That's a little pricey in my opinion. I would only trust the name-brands they sell here, like Sloane Ranger and Alex & Ani. I love the beachy style and unique finds. The prices are pretty middle of the road and I'd say pretty cheap for a beach boutique. I bought a scarf from there and it had a tear in it and they exchanged it for me, no questions asked. I'd say the sales associates there are not friendly but not unfriendly. Maybe indifferent is a good word for them. It is nice to see a new clothing store open in Lavallette that sells clothing that is a bit higher end and more dressy-casual. read more

Cute stuff. I didn't find it to be terribly expensive. It's definitely not cheap, but it's better than overpriced B&B stuff. I've gotten some really cute tops from there, a couple bracelets, a bag, and a throw. Everything's held up so far (about a year), so I can't really complain! I went to the store at 10, right when it opens, and three girls working there just stared at me when I walked in and all stood together in the corner while I looked. They never greeted me and made me feel uncomfortable, as they gossiped while I walked around. They should have greeted me and told me to have a nice day once I left. Extremely disappointed in my experience here. I was confused by the line for the dressing room and the line to pay, everything is extremely hectic and unorganized instead of helping, the employees gossip in a corner not to mention they are all 15 years old with pretentious attitudes. As I walked into the dressing room the door was ripped open by a stuck up 12 year old who not surprisingly works there. She told me I was not allowed in the dressing room because I was not waiting in line, little did I know I was waiting in the wrong line for 30 minutes with 30 people behind us confused as well. As I calmly explained this to the pretentious little girl she walked into the dressing room got in my face and starting yelling at me that I should have asked for help while she was staring at me the whole time I was in line. It is her job as an employee if she sees a customer confused to aid them. She confused her lunch brake with her work time. Very disappointed considering I was about to drop 200 dollars on poor made knock offs. Get a bigger space, train your employees, and don't buy clothes from China and raise the price 90 percent. read more

You can't actually see anything and by the time you actually maneuver the item off the rack to look at it, other things fall off the hangers. FINALLY - a clothing store on the island thats not a surfer/tshirt shop or geared toward the retired set. I had no idea they were building this and I happened to drive by on their grand-opening weekend. The design of the store caught my eye as I was driving by (it sort of looks Anthropologie-ish) so I had to stop. Clothing selection is very cute - kind of trendy but with a bohemian/relaxed vibe. Lots of flowy fabrics and beachy knits. There is a pretty big selection of flip flops, hats and a bit of jewelry also. Prices are higher than say, B&B, but the clothes are much nicer (some even made in the USA!) - I bought 3 tops that ranged in price from $14 to $56. I will definitely be back. read more

I used to love this store. I've had a beach house in Lava since 1998 and consider myself a "summertime local". The clothes and jewelry are adorable! Store is clean and neat. However... A few different times I went in, the staff never greeted me or asked if I needed help. The last time I went in, it took over 10 mins for a staff member to even acknowledge my existence. Finally one of the two girls there said something to me (btw I was the only customer in the store that whole time). I excused it, but finally became frustrated when I was looking at the new Alex and Ani bracelet collection they had on display. I even picked up the jewelry pamphlet explaining the new line of bracelets. Both girls were behind the counter 5 feet from me and never said a word to me. After I moved on to look at other jewelry, a middle aged woman came up to the Alex and Ani bracelets and one of the staff girls immediately introduced this lady to the new collection line. They couldn't explain it to ME a minute before that?! Rude. So I finally went to the counter to check out. The same girl who explained the bracelet collection to the other woman helped me. She didn't even look at me the entire checkout. She threw my credit card on the counter instead of handing it to me. Then she never even said "goodbye" or "have a nice day". She only looked at me when I HAD to say "thank you" while already walking out. Rude customer service. I don't want to go back if I'm going to be treated with disrespect and ignored. I love this store. By far my favorite in Lavalette. The prices are fair. It's cheap compared to the same items in department stores but still not cheap in general - most items are $40-50 range. They don't have their hours anywhere but FYI - they're open until 10 on Sat night in the summer. The sales people didn't bother me. Cute clothes but it just wasted $15 in gas to drive down there at 7PM when they close at 9PM and guess what? The doors were locked.. Very bad business. If I did this at my store I would have angry customers all the time. And to top it off I called to ask when they were closing and the snob that answered said "were closing in 10 minutes" in to which I replied "oh because I was just there 25 minutes ago and you were closed" and I got "oh we've been closed all day because of the rain." I think next time I'll window shop, look at the brand names and buy from an online shop, I don't care about the shipping cost and it's probably cheaper online. Thanks but no thanks. read more

great addition to lavallette, especially considering how many teenagers and 20-somethings come to lavallette during the summer! however, the layout of the store is pretty poor considering the sheer number of items in the store itself. the racks and shelves are usually jam-packed, making browsing super frustrating. also, a lot of items are redundant. the store may do better with a more unique collection of items. lastly, we want a bigger sale rack! read more

I went to this store for the fist time this weekend... it is AMAZING! My mom went to this store first, and she loved it. I was reluctant to go at first, thinking it was another store geared towards people in their 40's. But, it is a great store for all ages. It was trendy enough for someone my age (20's), but still a great place for people in their 40's to shop.
