I was looking for through the selection . I was greeted be a guy that just came out from the back of the store. We got to talking , he was my age. I've never walked into a surf shop and felt more unwelcome and uncomfortable with my child. He had a bite size cookie left and he was made to finish outside bc of ants (yah ok). Then my son who has autism was just wondering the store and being followed I told the owner he had autism and wouldn't understand anything he is saying to him. Also the 8 employees lingering about that stalk you is horrible. I will never go back! How that place is in business is beyond me. After reading other reviews the owner clearly has a problem with children and you can imagine how bad he was with my special needs kid. read more

Have been going here for almost as long as they've been open; 20+ years. In today's world, we have limited options to view, choose & try~on products for quality, appeal and selection in the retail market sector. Their shelves and racks are always brimming with unlimited inventory. When asked, they've even shipped products I've "left" behind. Ocean Hut continues to choose to serve their loyal client base as well as the newer, demanding customers that walk through their doors. Shop owners are passionate about the Ocean, Surfing, sun and the apparel and gear required for their customers to enjoy above mentioned. A Jersey shore staple. Support your "local" surf shop. Have been in there before and had the owner unnecessarily watch my kids like a hawk, making a major point that he didn't want them to touch anything. Tried it again today, had my daughter with me, and asked the owner to hold a sweatshirt at the register so I could come back and buy it for her birthday when she wasn't with me. He snapped at me that it wasn't their policy to hold things. Well, it's not my policy to buy things from stores with rude owners. Enjoy your sweatshirt; I will find it somewhere else. read more

Amazing local boutique down the shore. It has all of your needs whether you're a local or a shoebie. "P-hut" has been around for over 30 years and my family has been shopping there for that long (my dad prides himself on being one of their "first" customers). Since the Sandy renovation, O-hit had been able to maintain its traditional feel so old time customers know what to expect when they walk in, but updated extremely nicely. Their surfboard selection has a nice range and the employees there are well equipped to help you if your a newbie or an experience surfer. In addition to surfboards, the store carries clothing for men and women (brands such as billabong, oneil, roxy, quicksilver, etc) and accessories. Prices are very competitive with other surf shops around, but if you're looking for an inexpensive beach boutique, ocean hut may not be what you're looking for. Good surf shop. Have a decent selection of boards (surfboards, skimboards, body boards, even longboards) Staff is pretty chill here too. Only reason for me it doesn't get a full 5 stars is their pricing is pretty through-the-roof. From the perspective of someone who lives down here, I can see this being a big tourist area having a lot to do with tourist prices, so it's all good. I go to shops run by my friends personally but this isn't a bad place to stop and get geared up for the beach. read more

Is it possible to give zero stars? No. So they get one. Owners of the store are outrageously unprofessional and rude. As if there aren't enough other small businesses in the area to support. I would n e v e r step foot in there again. Owner felt it necessary to comment on my financial status when I asked for a discount on defective merchandise when the season was over. Great local surf shop!! Large selection of men's board shorts and women's bikinis with competitive prices. Tony the owner is always friendly and helpful, especially with my son who is just starting out surfing. They also are very knowledgeable about local conditions and is more than willing to share with customers! Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area!! read more

This is my favorite store by far. It is the only place I go to get my Vix bathing suit. As some of the other reviewers said, the owners and employees at this shop are so outgoing, educated, and friendly. If you need help in trying on bathing suits, and are looking for someone to pick out a suit that FITS your body type - this is the place to go! Everytime I walk in here, I just tell them what I am looking for - color, brand, (always a suit with a cute buckle, or leather on the hips), and they pick them out so quickly (which is so amazing). I usually walk in with a focus on bathing suits but they have a huge selection of sandals (lots of Rainbows in different colors and sizes), jewelry, and clothes that I always end up buying myself in addition to some gifts for others. (Speaking of clothes, I could honestly write up a whole review on the cute maxi dresses, cover-ups, and tanks alone). Pros: High-quality clothes, high-end bathing suits and a mens, womens, and kids section. For anyone looking for authentic Lavallette souvenirs (not the stuff you find on the boardwalk), they have Ocean Hut Surf Shop sweatshirt-blankets, hoodies, coffee mugs, t-shirts, and hats that also say Lavallette NJ. For surfers, you can call their mainline and ask for the surf report (all employees know it). Cons: Their website does not do them justice. Take a trip to the shop to check it out. read more
