Followup to address the clearly delusional accusations on the part of the owner:…read more Elaine, I suggest that you seek professional help, because your grasp on reality is tenuous, at best. First, I NEVER even SUGGESTED that I wanted a "free vacation", let alone "directly threatened". I asked for a partial refund , due to the unsafe and unacceptable condition of the rental, the HOURS wasted re-packing, driving, and unpacking. The second property rents for less than the first when compared on your own website. I can't fabricate that, it is the reality of your pricing structure. I am happy to provide screenshots of our limited conversations. In fact, I never responded to you, Elaine, as I had by then seen your outlandish responses to other victims of your company and recognized that you are not interested in rational solutions, but only attempting to bully anyone who calls you to account for your nonsense. You are simply lying. Second? Go ahead and look at my Yelp history. I generally give four or five stars to boost businesses which have worked hard to earn glowing reviews. I used to manage a European-owned boutique hotel in a resort town, so PLEASE believe that I understand how seriously reviews can impact guests' decisions. I don't enjoy giving low reviews in the slightest, but I am HAPPY to do so when uncaring scumbags try to make a quick buck by slinging an inferior product. Another lie from you. "A leak began hours after my arrival"? PLEASE. There is NO WAY that that level of damage began anywhere NEAR my arrival. Not to mention that unless you are unfamiliar with the science behind the flow of time, a leak beginning AFTER my arrival could not have caused damage BEFORE we arrived. Another lie from you. The linens being "squeaky clean"? False. I provided the photographic proof. Also, there are references in your reviews to you and "Lance" having a cleaning service, so it's not a big leap to assume that you can manufacture whatever documentation that you would like. Your laughable documentation doesn't supersede my eyewitness account. You could take honest feedback and experiences as an opportunity to examine your operation and improve, but instead, you get defensive and attack those whom you have wronged. Suggesting that I "could have" and "probably did" bring in a bug from outside? How desperate ARE you to avoid taking any responsibility? You are frankly despicable and should be ashamed of yourself. Nobody is blackmailing you. I stated an accurate account of your property. I'm sorry that the honest portrayal is at odds with the fictional accounts on your page, but you cannot bully me into silence. You are a liar and a cheat, with no concept of decency. I shared my experience as a warning to others who may consider renting your unkempt hovel. The second property was a definite downgrade. Your team was very kind. I will grant you that fact. They cannot help it that they work for a psychopath. Now, I challenge you to produce a shred of evidence that I "directly threatened" you with a bad review, and I further challenge you to substantiate your claim that we were ever offered a refund of any sort, because that categorically did not happen. I would have gladly accepted that, as my brother lives an hour from Chincoteague and offered to let us stay there if your company could not make the situation right. I wish that you actually HAD offered that, as I would have gladly accepted. Again, you lie. Shame on you, Elaine. You are a liar and a cheat.

Wow, there's a lot of hate on here but I have nothing but good things to say about this business…read more We have been renting from them for 5 years and have had only the minorest of issues, which can be expected when renting a beach vacation home (not enough forks at one place and ants had gotten into one of the kitchens at another and it was quickly addressed). We have rented about 10 different properties and all are true to the photos and descriptions. Check-in is easy and keyless, all have WiFi, and I LOVE that linens (sheets, towels) are now included! They always provide a welcome bag with a couple rolls of toilet paper and dishwasher tabs, etc. to get you started. I also love not paying extra fees to third party sites, so we book direct. This is our go-to vacation rental location!

The pool and beach are on site. You can't get in the water by your bungalows, but there are chairs outside so you can sit on the shore. The bungalows have everything you need inside as far as dishes and pots and pans. They also provide towels and linens. Check in and check out were very easy. You get into your bungalow with a 4 digit code that they email you before arriving. When you check out you just call and let them know you're gone. The trip was successful and we loved it here. There are water activities (jet skis, boats, kayaks) and grills on site. There's also e-bikes and fishing rods for rent. You can also purchase fire wood, ice, and charcoal onsite There are AC units inside each bungalow but the bedroom with bunk beds doesn't have a unit so either bring a fan or leave the door open, because it gets hot in there. The main room and living room have a TV that has Netflix and other streaming channels. I certainly think it's a vibe here... The staff is great. Mike, Mark, and Connor were very helpful!! We stayed with 3 other retired  couples this time and enjoyed having our own bedrooms and bathrooms. One chilly and rainy day we couldn't go fishing but enjoyed the fireplace and appreciated the nice dry firewood the owners supplied. Really enjoyed seeing the Chincoteague wild ponies again, and this time we did get to the Wallops NASA base.   We are planning on bringing our grandchildren for a week next summer. There are so many free activities that we can enjoy with them from catching crabs and swimming off the dock,  surf fishing on Assateague, and even climbing the light house.  Plus the 2 visitor centers on Assateague and Wallops can keep them busy if weather doesn't let us enjoy the National Seashore which is my favorite beach. Especially enjoyed lots of take-out seafood, and the savings vs eating in restaurants. But cooked lots of great breakfasts in the wonderful kitchen that was exceptionally well stocked with everything from paper products to spices and every pot and pan you can imagine including a large crock pot for our gang

After our experience with Cattail Cottage and Harbour Rental's staff and management, we will never be booking them again. Arriving at Cattail Cottage this year, everything seemed to be okay except that the only actual couch in the house in the back room is stained. We did not mind this much because we were not visiting Chincoteague to sit on the couch. One day, after getting back from dinner and hanging out in town, we arrived back to see that the house had become infested with hundreds of ants. Most of the ants were located in the bathroom right off of the bedroom, which unfortunately has a type of barn door on a slide which does not reach the floor to close off the bathroom to separate this issue from where we would be sleeping. We reported the infestation to Harbour Rentals that night and followed up again in the morning and repeatedly throughout our week in Chincoteague after sleeping elsewhere beginning that night. The office only gave us six Terro ant bait traps for hundreds of ants. After spending most of the next day playing exterminator and cleaning the house on vacation, the ants seemed to subside for that day, however, they returned and were now also in the kitchen, especially by the sink, even though we did not use the kitchen other than storing things in the fridge. We repeatedly reached out to Harbour Rentals requesting a call from the manager, named Anita according to office staff Bill and Sandy, throughout the remainder of our stay and never heard from her. Upon dropping off our keys on the last day, Sandy was in office and stated that Anita had visited the house without telling us and while we were not there. Sandy stated that Anita did not find any evidence of ants in the home, however, prior to us dropping off the keys, we did our own walk through of the cottage and found even more ants, both dead and alive, all around the home and took a video which showcases this. We still have not heard from or seen the manager, Anita, after having repeatedly requesting a call, sending an email, and visiting the office in person multiple times.

We had no issues with checking in or getting our security deposit back. The two parking places were close to the entrance and the location is good, but pretty much anywhere on Chincoteague Island is fine since it is small. We had to do quite a bit of cleaning on our own which was a bummer. -the outside of the cabin area has a little fire pit, patio and table with chairs. The Campground - The campground is relatively small. -They have an arcade which is nice. In the arcade they have activities throughout the day. They also have books and board games you can rent. -The pool is small but accessible. -The bath houses are large and very clean. -they have a little picnic area located near the water which is really cute. -The main attraction here is the access to Maui Jacks water park which is delightful!!! The fee is included in the price you pay to stay at the campground. -They have a jumping pillow and small play area for kids. -The location of the campground is great. It's situated in the heart of Chincoteague and right across the water from Assateague . The service -the customer service was subpar. I found the gold cart a little challenging to figure out and asked for help. The employee literally laughed at me. Pro tip- you have to wait for the gold cart to "click" before you can go. -The employees were mostly on their phone and not very friendly. -They have free WiFi but it is terrible. Overall the landscape here is really pretty. Outside of the waterpark there isn't much to do. The vibe here is more laid back and quiet. If you are looking for a "Party" campground this isn't it.

I have 4 separate emails over several months stating they wanted to abide by the terms of the agreement, despite escalating situations in their region. Fair enough-it is a legally binding contract. However, one week before check-in, I receive notification that they have amended check-in hours due to COVID. Given that the agreement specifically references check-in/check-out times and does not include the needed language to amend without my counter-signature, it is only fair that they follow the agreement the same way they are asking us to do. You can't have it both ways.
