Oxtail dinner with rice & peas + curried potatoes
    Sarah M.

Was in the plaza picking up something else & saw this place and got excited as I haven't had Caribbean cuisine in quite some time. Noticed that their oxtail dinner is way cheaper than other places so placed an order for it. Got my dinner pretty quickly (one person finished picking up food as I arrived). Had it at home and it tasted good but sadly, the 3 large pieces of oxtail was mostly fat and what wasn't was dried out and not fall apart tender as I would expect with oxtail. Hopefully they can improve this. The other thing I noticed is that their jerk chicken is white meat only (no thanks!).

This was the worst roti and chicken curry I've ever eaten in my life. First, why is the curry oily and translucent? It was watery and had zero flavour. I wanted to like this place because it's not too far from where I live and sometimes I don't want to drive to drupatis or Mona's. I'm never making that mistake again. I messaged them on Instagram and they never responded. I wish they had. It makes me sad that there are Caribbean places like this with bad food feeding people and sadly people will think our food is this bad. Never again. Just writing this is reminding me of the taste and I want to throw up.

How I've missed Island Foods since they closed their mainstay location at King and Dufferin. I was so delighted to discover this recently-opened takeout location near to my place of business. It offers the exact versions of all of the dishes I grew so fond of at their previous location. This establishment is impeccably clean and professional and the gentleman who serves me every time I've been in is proficient and I've never had a mistake in my order, (over 10 now). Thank you Island Foods Express, you're doing all of the right things..

Chicken curry dinner. Rice and peas and veggies

Friendly staff and owner at this restaurant. The shrimp curry, beef curry and chicken curry are excellent. The prices are very reasonable. We also got some Roti and side chicken gravy. We ordered spice level hot but it didn't seem very hot. Flavourful but just not hot enough. Easy fix is add some hot sauce. We will back to try the jerk chicken as I have heard that is very good.

Was a regular for years at the King and Dufferin location and was sad to see it go. To my surprise I drove past Island Foods Express in Markham! Amazing Roti consistent as always !

Tried their boneless chicken roti and beef roti and they were delicious but there was barely any filling.

We liked the Jerk Pork more, spicy and very flavourful with a nice dry rubbed crisp "bark". Lunch deal with rice was 8 bucks. What we had was gluten free. The reviews trashed the service which I found funny when you are getting such good food for less than the price of McD. If you want service goto a waitered restaurant. Give this place a try and decide for yourself. We enjoyed it and will be back.

The lady that greeted me is nice and friendly but with a really heavy caribbean accent.. We have to both repeat everything that we said to each other before we got an idea what we talking about.. Chinese Accent VS Island Accent! :) Jerk Chicken Leg Dinner ($5.50) - I was a little bit disappointed with the Jerk Chicken. Usually I pick the leg part because it usually not as dry and more juicy. However, I have to say that it is dry and tough.... it resembles more of a "Jerky" Chicken than a Jerk Chicken - For side you can pick either a veggie or coleslaw. Veggie is a combination of cabbage and carrot.. plain and simple but nice and healthy - The rice is the star of this meal as me and my friends fighting to eat the rice.. good mix of kidney beans and some gravy to give it a little kick Can I dare to say I was a little disappointed with the Jerk Chicken at Mr Jerk? It is one of the worse one I ever have. BTW, my friends were really hesitate to eat the Jerk Chicken because it was like black... looks like it was really burnt.. I have to explain to them those are just the spice rub they use :). Lunch specials for students $2 for a beef patty and a pop... I wonder if she will ask me for ID if I order one of those? :) 2.5 star

This store is located a few doors down from Church's Chicken. The former is closest to McCowan Road. I backed into a parking spot closest to the store. I walked in. This place has hot foods. It had jerk chicken, curry, goat, and a lot more when I was there. I saw the oxtail, which is my favourite dish out of the bunch. I'll need to come back for it. I was here for patties. This place has cheap prices when it comes to frozen, boxed patties. I normally see a dozen frozen beef patties for $20 at my usual patty places. This place had them for $15.50. Such a great deal! You can get veggie, chicken, and beef patties. With beef, it comes in mild, regular spicy, and extra spicy. I got a box of regular spicy. I could smell the hot patties. I had to get one for the road. I got a regular spicy beef patty. I couldn't resist! The woman who was originally behind the hot foods helped me get my hot patty. I paid for my purchases with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked her and left with my purchases. You can get bread here, too. It has rolls on the weekend. I liked seeing desserts by the payment area. It was difficult for me to resist getting some. Next time, for sure. I was determined to get patties and I succeeded. I ate my beef patty as I drove off to run my next errand. It was so good. The spice level was nice. The patty was hot. The outside was flaky, but sturdy. I was a happy camper. I've had a few patties at home. Whether I heat them up in a toaster oven or microwave oven, they are yummy and bring great joy to me and my tummy. I'm glad that I finally visited this store. I have passed by it countless times. I'll be back for more patties and some oxtail. (97)

The server greater me quickly and I was seated near the bar. They have a variety of Caribbean offerings and everything sounded delicious. I opted for the Jerk Chicken Burger with Fries. I have to say that the food did take a tad longer than I expected but it wasn't insanely long. The fries were hot and crispy. The burger. I imagined it would be an actually piece of jerk chicken breast but it was grounded chicken with jerk spices which was great! It was nicely spiced. The only draw back was it was cold. I'm guess they made the burger first, and then made the fries. The burger was topped with coleslaw and on the bottom tomato, cucumber and lettuce. The cucumber was weird to me I expected pickles which would have been a nice salty balance to the spice of the burger. The coleslaw was ok on the burger it gave it the creaminess you needed because there are no condiments on the burger. No mayo, or anything. I felt like they could have made a Caribbean type of condiment to add to the flavour. I used ketchup which gave it that sauce it needed. Service was ok, not slow, now fast. Just there. She was extremely friend and attentive. You just had to get her attention. Value for food was ok. I notified some of the reviews stated they automatically added gratuity. This was not the case. You can in fact add your own gratuity yourself. There is not mandatory 18% added. Overall, a good experience. I will come back again to try other offerings they have.

Last Sunday, I had lunch with six cool friends at Caribbean Cabana. It takes over from where Soca Palace used to be. This eatery is steps away from my go-to pharmacy and is next to National Bank in a plaza that takes me seven minutes to get to by car. Caribbean Cabana specializes in Guyanese-style Chinese food. It offers 100% halal food and is fully LLBO-licensed. We had quite the feast: - Cabana wonton soup - Curry goat with roti - Cabana fried rice - Cabana combo (appetizers) - Singapore Noodles - Basha (fish - spicy) - Cabana mixed veggies - Calamari - Lo-wontons We asked for water and got a carafe that had a yellow tint. We joked that it looked like urine. Luckily, it wasn't. I asked the same nice woman for a refill on the water. The carafe only filled four glasses out of the seven. It was a busy afternoon thanks to a Toronto Blue Jays game being broadcast while we were there. We eventually got the refill and were content. The wonton soup was full of veggies and wontons in a tasty broth. We got the Cabana combo, which featured spring rolls, fried wontons, fries, and onion rings. It was perfect for snacking and sharing! We continued our fry fest with calamari that was done to perfection. It was seasoning perfectly with none of that rubbery nonsense. It was my first time having lo-wontons. They were unique and now my favourite way to enjoy wontons in a light soy-based sauce with lots of green onion. The curry goat was amazing. The goat was flavourful and tender. The roti was so yummy. I dipped it in the curry. It was also yummy to eat on its own. The singaporian noodles were delicious. I loved the veggies, shrimp, and chicken mixed in with perfectly cooked vermicelli and the best sauce. Basha was excellent. Fried fish with a spicy kick. Not crazy. Highly flavourful with flaky fish, lightly battered, but super crispy and tender. Yum! Say yes to bell peppers and onions. I devoured the Cabana mixed veggies. This place does broccoli so well. Crunchy. Yummy. We ended up doing the holy protein trinity of beef, chicken, and shrimp. The veggies balanced our proteins out nicely. If you love chicken, you must try the Cabana fried rice. You get succulent chicken with crispy skin on top of the best fried rice. So good! We had some food left over. A couple of friends got to bring them home.6) This place has lunch specials at decent prices. I need to take advantage of them. The specials start at $7.99. Such a steal! I didn't use the washroom, but a couple of my friends did. You need a key to use it. I had a great time enjoying yummy food with cool friends. I hope to do it again soon or grab a lunch special.
