Fantastic place, beautifully decorated cottages and a great beac area with a dick right into the bay. Loved our stay! The owners were very friendly and helpful. The room was immaculately clean. Comfy bed is always most important to us. Will definitely be back.

Best little getaway we have had in years! This charming resort property is between Key Largo and Marathon with well-appointed cottage efficiencies. The kitchenette alleviates the stress of having to dine out 3 times a day, especially on the busy weekends. Immaculately maintained, sandy beach with plenty of lounging areeas that are both shaded and unshaded with plenty of room between. They even have games, books, and kayaks at your disposal. The owners and staff are as charming as the property. They truly make you feel at home.

Our cottage that we stayed in on Dec 2012

We loved every moment we were here and we stayed 5 nights. We had a much needed vacation which was romantic, relaxing, quiet, and healing. Island Bar Resort gave us all that and more. We had such great memories in the Keys in general but this resort made our vacation perfect. As soon as we stepped in, soft music was playing in the room from the radio clock and there was chocolate key lime pie on the bed with a hibiscus bloom. It really made me drop the feeling of stress almost immediately, I felt like I was really away from the crap life I was living. The room was adorable and decorated with pictures and souvenirs that were taken by the owners from their own trips around the world. They even have a digital picture frame on the dresser showing all their amazing photos of wild life, landscape, and places they went. The TV is a flatscreen which is mounted on the wall and could be pulled out to face the bed. We were really impressed with every detail that went into this cottage -- the chocolate on the bed, how clean and maintained everything are, kitchen had paper towels, mini fridge, cooking pans, and a stove. It also had a mini cooler, a wine bottle opener, and wine glasses among all the other kitchen necessities! There was a small grill on the patio of our cottage as well. And oh, let's not forget they have free wifi! (But for folks who gets followed by work via internet, let's pretend they don't). The shower was large though the actual bathroom seemed crampy but who cares! Just do your business and stop hanging out in the bathroom! ;) They have a guest book which was really helpful to read as there are suggestions from previous guests in there. The cottage also has a binder that was full of places to eat/see and activities suggested, etc. I'd happily choose this place over any hotel in the area. Our own little cottage was right on the beach and we had the beach mostly to ourselves on most days and nights. My fiance jumped right off the dock on our first day but we mostly soaked up the sun when we were home on the afternoons. Our cottage has a mini cooler which was extremely helpful for our snorkeling trip and we used it to keep our drinks cold. This place is particularly special to us because it's where he proposed to me on December 19, 2012. Everything was perfect. We'll be back here again, no doubt.

Let me just tell you that this tiny row of 10 cottages is a home away from home dream getaway!!! This mom and pop run mini resort has covered every little detail if you were to stay in this home away from home! These little cottages are UBER clean, with kitchenettes, small fridge and microwave, awesome seaside-esque décor, unobtrusive flat screen TV's with little DVD players, Wi-Fi, down to your own little charcoal grill outside. A short jaunt to the private beach (which looks as if it actually gets grated every evening!)...and you can work on your latest novel or your tan. You can see straight down into the water here which is like having the Discovery Channel live and in action right in front of your eyes! AWESOME!!!! AND kayaks (1 and 2 person) and snorkeling gear are available for the folks staying at this little resort! You really don't have to leave this spot at all! This just has a homey, comfy; don't-really-want-to-go-anywhere-else feel! But if you do want to frolic in the Keys, all you have to do is go to the office and chat with Carol and Mike and see what local hot spots that they might recommend. It is expensive here, starting from $136 or so on up, which is the only reason why we couldn't stay at this location longer than 3 nights. With a 12% tax it was a good little chunk of change for our short little stay. But all things being equal...I did not leave with much Buyer's Remorse as I truly did have a wonderful experience here. I cannot say enough positive things about the owners of Island Bay Resort by the way. These folks are incredibly accommodating and completely customer service oriented. They even made up a Happy Anniversary sign for my hubby and I with a little pack of chocolates! So nice and personal! Not something you'd find at a Hilton for sure! I just loved the incredible energy at this petite hideaway in Tavernier. You just don't find little spots like this run by phenomenal people like that anymore. This truly is a treasure found in the Keys!!

This place was amazing! The owners were extremely accommodating. We loved the kayaks, paddle boarding, snorkeling in the little beach area and fishing off the dock. We stayed an extra night because we loved it so much. The sunsets were spectacular. I could go on and on about how amazing this little jem is. We will definitely return!

It's almost with trepidation that I write this review. For every great review I know more people will want to stay here, thus our little secret place will be outed. We discovered IBR about 5 or 6 years ago now and have never been disappointed with our stays. We love the small resort atmosphere and private beach where we can watch the most spectacular sunsets. Although this place isn't for everyone, no pool, no gym, no room service; for others it's a hidden paradise. We are convenient to dive operators in Key Largo, lots of restaurants and other water sports while staying here. It's pretty quiet and private, a good place for us to unwind from our busy lives in the north. Mike and Carol have always been friendly and welcoming when we arrive. The grounds and cabins are kept immaculate at all times. If you are looking a small, boutique resort to stay at while in the Tavernier area, I can reluctantly let you know of my secret hideaway.

Sunset off the beach, inspired by the amazing photography in the rooms!

What a fantastic little resort. Everything we needed, very quiet and super clean! We will be back! The owners are super friendly and very helpful. Best kept secret in the keys.

We came down here for a friend's wedding, and were definitely impressed by the secluded private beach and overall island decor. The cottage we stayed in, Bahia Honda - #5, was very cute but the pricetag of $168 a night seemed rather steep for a tiny one room efficiency. This was our first time in the Key Largo are so perhaps this is the norm. Owners, Mike and Carol, were very sweet and even let us take out the kayak and hang out on the beach until our flight later in the day. All in all, a beautiful place but without checking prices at other resorts (especially one with a pool as this beach is very shallow HOT waters) would have to be a 4 star

Housekeeping forgot to replenish bath towels and bath mat after cleaning. They don't even bother to check if there's enough bath soaps in the dispenser. It was at 20% remaining level when we first checked in. But housekeeping never refilled it on our 2nd or 3rd night. The hotel pool is small and I have never seen anyone cleaning it in the morning. I see seagulls swimming and drinking from it. This place is not meant for young people or family. Not much to do in here. All the amenities listed in the hotel description? They are available if you dare to use them. The kayaks, bicycles, life jackets are all worn out, old and rusty (the bicycles). If we could cancel the reservation without losing any money, we would have done it right away after we checked into our room. Another thing about this place is short staffed. No staff on site after certain hours at night. There's an emergency # for you to call.

One Star is generous! This was for a 1 night stay on January 18, 2026. I had thought that our…read moresituation might be unique but as i read so many similar experiences, I've decided to warn others as well. 1) We arrived way before "late check-out" time, yet the office was closed. A posted phone number of the apparent on-site manager was not answered and never returned. There were three couples awaiting a call back from the number(s) left on the office window. It took us all 45 minutes (!) in the buggy dusk to finally connect with a responsible person (NY?) who advised that we all should have rec'd email instructions...we did not -- so he explained how to use the night key boxes. By then we were all upset at the inconvenience and disorganization. 2) the room smelled terribly; couldn't identify it but all our clothes and suitcase absorbed the odor. Took days to air out! Nowhere to complain after hours. 3) Two queen beds were made nicely BUT one was covered with tiny dead bugs. Really?? Therefore the bed was useless. 4) The bathroom sink and toilet had been cleaned but toilet was poorly maintained and rusty, as well as the shower head. 5) ALL the furniture surfaces were covered with a disgusting sticky residue, forcing us to place our CPAP machines on a towel on the only one bedside table provided. 6) The lamp base on that bedside table was covered with some dark, dried sticky substance that appeared as some spilled liquid (Coke??) that might have been spilled on it some time ago and allowed to dry. The whole table was disgusting in this regard. And also the plastic cover on the elec clock fell off when I tried to clean under it. Good that we had brought sanitizer wipes! 7) One of the TV legs was broken and I advised a cleaning lady. She was unaware. 8) Some minor issues like a burned out light bulb, arbitrary and missing bathroom amenities, but indicators that the room is poorly maintained. This manager should do the right thing and return our money. TERRIBLE experience in a dirty and poorly-maintained room. BEWARE!

My family and I were only staying one night in the Keys and budget was a primary concern with how…read moremuch we were spending on our entire trip to Florida. One of the cheaper options ("cheaper" meaning $265 after fees) that had decent reviews was Creekside Inn, so I booked a room with two queen beds. The email I received after booking the room says the office is only open 9am to 9pm. I knew we might be arriving late from Miami, so I called earlier in the day and they gave me instructions on how to get our room key just in case and told me to stop by the next morning to fill out the registration paperwork. We ended up getting to the hotel at 8:35pm only to find the office was already closed. Kind of frustrating because I knew we were leaving before 9am the next morning and didn't want to have to stop back. It ended up delaying us leaving town later the next day when we did stop. The room was underwhelming. There was little water pressure in the sink, so it made brushing teeth and washing hands difficult. The beds certainly weren't the definition of comfortable. I get that having tile flooring in the bedroom makes it easier to clean for the staff, but carpeting would be appreciated. The best part of the stay was the view of the creek behind the building, but that was for the 20 seconds we saw it while we walked to and from our room. If price is your main consideration, Creekside Inn may be right for you. If I come back to the Keys, though, I would look elsewhere even if it means spending more.
