This was the best thing I've done in years…read more Our family group of 5 rode in a small boat to Coronado Island, piloted by Nicke (don't know how it's spelled, but is pronounced Neek-ay). We filled the boat so didn't have to have strangers ride with us and were very pleased about that. Nicke stopped and we got out & snorkeled at 3 different spots around the island. The first was the most spectacular underwater: Smooth, flat-side, house-sized boulders falling away from the island into the deepest blue depths, fish, all over, different kinds. Me just hanging in crystal clear water 70 feet deep... I haven't seen so many colorful & interesting fish since I was on the Red Sea as a kid. Nicke was so cool & didn't rush us. I could see other boats coming and going but we were here for around 1.5 hours and not made to hurry. It was so beautiful underwater that no-one wanted to move on. The next stop was a sea lion colony. This was an all-male colony; no females to fight over, so we were told we could safely swim with them - and we were not expecting THAT! Never dreamed I would have an opportunity to do such a thing! But we did and it was incredible. These are massive sea lions, not little seals. They were curious & swam all around each of us, and underneath, swirling and staring with their huge soft eyes, staying juuuust out of arms reach. It felt like an impossible dream. Nicke called us "the brave family" when we got out of the water here; I guess we got a little close to the sea lions. Again, other tour boats were coming & going but we were not rushed by our guide. The last snorkel spot was not as splendidly dramatic underwater as the first, but it was every bit as beautiful and had "tropical" fish everywhere. It was beautiful in a different way; you can't believe the colors you're seeing, the different shades of green and everything is close up, right in front of you, because it is much shallower. By the time were were done here, we were getting tired. Nicke took us to a clean sand beach with classic "perfect beach" turquoise water, set up an umbrella for shade and we lay around for an hour, till we were ready to go. And we were ready, it was a big day. Here he broke out some lunch and we ate every bit of it. If you are expecting cuisine at this juncture, you'd better bring it yourself. It wasn't fancy & there wasn't a lot of it, but that wasn't the point of the trip. We weren't there for a boat-ride & lunch. We got to spend hours snorkeling a world- class environment & swimming with wild sea lions for just over $10 an hour per person, an incredible value. Nicke did say that it was the best time of the year (fall) for clear water & visibility. I live 2 hours from here, near the beach, and will be returning to do THIS again with my Go-pro. If you don't have one, borrow one. You will want to remember this beautiful experience for a long time.

We also rented a bicycle taxi and went to the marina. The people are humble and nice and Loreto has so much to offer. Recommended

We saw colorful nudibranchs, hundreds of reef fish, playful sea lions, and a moray eel! Our guide Orlando made us feel safe and comfortable diving, and our boat captain showed us pods of dolphins and leaping rays on our journey to the islands. We can't wait to come back again and are already looking forward to the next time!

Despite some hiccups as the date approached (confirmation emails with the wrong departure date and location), Guinevere moved mountains to make sure we got the experience we expected. This included positioning a newly acquired Bali 4.5 from Loreto to La Paz so it would be available for us. Captain John and Chef Macrina were beyond what we could have hoped for. They are an absolutely adorable couple whose passion for life and for each other is infectious and was the icing on the cake of an incredible experience. The food was fresh and fantastic and Macrina's candid observations of our progress were as welcome as John's. As someone who does technical instruction for a living, I really appreciated John's teaching style. It was organic but still structured. He could tell what we already understood well and spent more time emphasizing what could keep us out of trouble or perhaps save our lives. At times it was like drinking from a firehose, but there was still lots of down time for recreating in this unspoiled part of the world (snorkelling with sea lions, exploring mangroves with the dinghy). We left the course feeing like we had made two new friends and with a good foundation to continue what we hope is a lifetime of learning under sail. We really feel like we got so much more than what was promised. If you are considering doing your ASA certifications, do not hesitate to book with West Coast Multihulls in La Paz. There are not enough superlatives to describe our time with John and Macrina.

Captain John was a knowledgeable instructor who pushed us all just enough. He kept us focused and made learning what seemed like a mountain of info very attainable. If you are lucky enough to get John as your captain make sure to pay a little extra and have his very talented wife, Carina, cook for you. The food was fresh and tasty and her timing was impeccable. Just as you were starting to get hungry, there would be Carina setting the table and getting the meal ready. Can't wait to get down there again and expand my knowledge and enjoy more of the sea of cortez.

The only red flag was that I had to make a payment through a link that was not under the Luxury Boat Tours name. Other than that, everything was absolutely perfect. Alberto (Pancho), the crew boss, stayed in contact with me by text from the time I booked until the moment we were picked up, which gave us a lot of confidence and made the entire process easy. We did a private sailboat excursion in St. Thomas in June, and while it was nice, this experience was on a completely different level. The boat was a large catamaran, and it was just my wife and me. The personal attention was outstanding. The crew went above and beyond to make sure every one of our needs was taken care of. Captain Alberto was not only an excellent captain, but he also prepared an incredible lunch. He diced and prepared all the food like a fine-dining sous chef. My wife does not eat seafood, so they prepared an amazing carne asada meal for her, while I enjoyed the seafood. The quality and quantity of the food were outstanding--we couldn't even finish it! From the moment the dinghy picked us up until we returned more than six hours later, everything was first-class. We spent the day snorkeling, cruising around the islands, and enjoying an experience that was truly top-notch. We also were able to experience a superpod of hundreds of dolphins swimming alongside the boat. Jorge and Armando were very attentive and assisted us through all the fishing steps. It was a great day of fishing and we would recommend Fishing Geer Charters for any of your fishing, whale-watching, and/or snorkel adventures. Decided to bring my one year old here yesterday since he does love jumping on the bed. Thought it…read morewould be a lot of fun and good exercise for him too. The place is brand new to the location. It's really big and from what I saw people throw birthday parties here too. Only thing I didn't like is that they don't have AC so the place gets extremely hot especially with so many people there. They do have fans, but they honestly do not help at all. I'd suggest coming here when the weather outside is cool and definitely not on a hot day. You can buy drinks and pizza inside or you can buy food outside since they do have restaurants and shopping locations also. Overall it was a good first time experience. Won't be coming back until the weather decides to take a chill pill. ;)
