We did the Mesquite Canyon hike with Said and had an amazing time. Said is incredibly responsive over WhatsApp and was well prepared with drinks/food for the hike. I wasn't feeling too well the day of the hike and he was able to tailor our pace accordingly. Throughout the hike, Said also kept us engaged by pointing out local wildlife/fauna. The Canyon was beautiful even though it's dry season. I 100% encourage visiting Mesquite Canyon and going with Said.

But hey, review anything and everything, right?? I visited the island with Land & Sea Tours (who I highly recommend). It was an odd day weather wise so we had really smooth water on the far side of the island, which allowed us to very easily view the sea lions, blue-footed boobies, volcanic rock formations, humpbacks, and more. We stopped at the "main" beach which has a covered area with picnic tables. There is a restroom but it's fairly nasty - I recommend the "big baño" that is the ocean instead. You can snorkel here as well as a few other locations around the island - ask your guide or boat captain. The island and waters around it are an ecological preserve so be mindful to stay on paths, not leave trash, use reef-safe sunscreen, etc!

I was so excited by the thought of leisurely devouring my big, sweet, chocolatey bunny! Yummm! And then...my mother made me share my chocolate bunny with a friend. I cried...for days. Now I get it, though. Thanks, Mom! Isla Coronado is a place so muy bonita, that many people would love to keep it a secret. They don't want to share. When you see the crystal clear turquoise water, white sandy beach, and the unique wildlife on and around this beautiful island, you'll understand why. This uninhabited volcanic island is a natural, pristine paradise. Coronado is one of five islands in the Loreto Bay Marine Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Yes, thankfully the area is an international preservation site. It is protected so that its exceptional natural beauty can be shared with future generations. Happiness shared really is doubled. That being said, if you're in Loreto, I highly recommend taking a tour out to Coronado Island. I'll review my tour separately but will say that it was excellent. Depending on the season, you will probably see blue and/or gray whales, dolphins, blue-footed boobies, pelicans, and sea lions, all en route to Coronado's beautiful white sandy beach. If you have a chance to snorkel here, definitely do so. The water was a bit cold in February but the icy plunge was worth it to see things like chocolate starfish, stingrays, and some of the most beautiful and unique marine life on the planet. There. I've learned to share. And, this beautiful island paradise is way better than a chocolate bunny! You're welcome.

In December 2017, my wife and I went with two other couples on the 5 day Loreto Primer Trip. The experience level varied from having lots of sea kayak expeditions and instruction to newbies. Our guides, Marcos and Tuku, organized a trip that kept everyone happy - great paddling, great food, wildlife viewing and snorkeling. Not only that, Marcos and Tuku are BCU-trained and were happy to provide instruction in strokes, self-rescue, bracing and rolling after setting up camp in the afternoon. A siesta was also an alternative after a morning paddle to a new beach. The professionalism of Sea Kayak Baja Mexico was always evident. The kayak is top-flight featuring TideRace, NDK and Romany kayaks. Tandem kayaks were also available. Marcos and Tuku were well-trained in risk-management. This was particularly clear on the first day when inexperienced members of our group were safely guided onto a beach with a modest surf. I hope to return to Loreto - there is much more exploring to do with Sea Kayak Baja Mexico.

Liz, our hostess outdid herself with making us comfortable and ensuring we had everything we needed to make our stay memorable. She gave us a tour of Loreto so we could get a feel of where things were. Showing us the best restaurants and the most awesome homemade ice cream parlor. Liz arranged for a boat tour for us and let us know all the local happenings around the area. The Casita was equipped with everything you could imagine in a kitchen. I could have baked cookies if I was thus inclined, and the staff came in and cleaned every day. It was lovely having our morning coffee outside in the courtyard and with a heated pool you could swim at any time of the day. With a well stocked library and movies if you just wanted to stay at the casitas and relax you need not look anywhere else. Close by the town square and the marina, everything was within walking distance. We have already booked a 2 week stay next year we were so impressed with the service and room. Pros * Comfortable beds * Private courtyard * Heated pool * Free WiFi * Hostess with the mostest * Full kitchen * Every kitchen appliance and utensils you could think of * Library and games * Movies * Gated * Security lights so you can see at night * Tastefully decorated rooms * Walking distance to anywhere in Loreto Cons * Having to leave as it was all booked up

Despite some hiccups as the date approached (confirmation emails with the wrong departure date and location), Guinevere moved mountains to make sure we got the experience we expected. This included positioning a newly acquired Bali 4.5 from Loreto to La Paz so it would be available for us. Captain John and Chef Macrina were beyond what we could have hoped for. They are an absolutely adorable couple whose passion for life and for each other is infectious and was the icing on the cake of an incredible experience. The food was fresh and fantastic and Macrina's candid observations of our progress were as welcome as John's. As someone who does technical instruction for a living, I really appreciated John's teaching style. It was organic but still structured. He could tell what we already understood well and spent more time emphasizing what could keep us out of trouble or perhaps save our lives. At times it was like drinking from a firehose, but there was still lots of down time for recreating in this unspoiled part of the world (snorkelling with sea lions, exploring mangroves with the dinghy). We left the course feeing like we had made two new friends and with a good foundation to continue what we hope is a lifetime of learning under sail. We really feel like we got so much more than what was promised. If you are considering doing your ASA certifications, do not hesitate to book with West Coast Multihulls in La Paz. There are not enough superlatives to describe our time with John and Macrina.
