Isaac's Cafe is part of the visitor's center at Bernheim Forest. They feature local ingredients from their own edible garden and a menu that caters to gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian diets. It's the perfect way to refuel after engaging in nature play at the Playcosystem, hiking to see the Forest Giants, or after one of the many others trails/activities Bernheim offers.
Isaac's offers indoor and outdoor dining. We ordered the Honey Pecan Chicken Salad- a sweet twist on their famous chicken salad recipe including Bernheim's award winning honey, Pop's pepper patch fresh pickle relish, shredded chicken, onions, celery, and pecans, served on wheat berry bread. It comes with your choice of veggies or chips. I opted for veggies with ranch. My husband ordered The Rock Run- an unforgettable combination of Boone's tender roast beef, Monterey Jack cheese, crisp Pop's pepper patch pickles, a kick of their house made horseradish sauce sprinkled with salty potato chips and topped with locally harvested greens. This sandwich is served on marbled sourdough and pumpernickel bread with either chips or veggies and ranch. The kids had grilled cheese on wheat berry bread with veggies.
Everything we had was phenomenal. I'm inspired to return to try more of the menu, especially the seasonal soups. I'm not typically a ranch fan, but the ranch was extraordinary. We traded halves and the chips on the Rock Run took me back to my childhood, when chips on my sandwich were a go-to. This grown-up more sophisticated version truly was unforgettable. If cafe's are your forte, Isaac's will not disappoint. read more
