90% of the time I buy produce here it is rotten/moldy. Also, on several occasions I haven't checked expiration dates (once for dog biscuits, once for Quaker Oats, once for crackers) and they were all over the date when they should be sold by. Sometimes I'm swayed to buy there because the prices are good on fruits and vegetables but then I get home and 1/2 of the things need to be thrown out so the discounted prices are not worth it. Met food up the block seems to be priced reasonably well and so far all produce has been fresh. read more

Recently moved to the neighborhood and am quite pleased with this spot for last minute shopping. More or less friendly cashiers and open 24 hours, amazing! Pluses: really fresh pierogis; organic meats that I can't even find at the coop (like Applegate Farms herbed turkey breast slices, delicious!); cage free eggs for $3 a dozen; some sweet deals on produce. Overall, prices are pretty standard. Minuses: two liter seltzer was overpriced, can find it for a less elsewhere. But hey, everything else was reasonable. read more

My fiance and I love Isaac Apple Farm and with it's new changes, it's nly getting better. The people who work here are so friendly. It is open 24/7 and they have an incredibly vast selection of grocery items, dried goods, sweets and a nice spread of different ethnic foods and accoutrement. Their ice cream selection is great (esp in the winter when Kathy's is closed) and they recently expanded to have a larger cheese section and started to offer meats. The prices are very good, and comparable to other stores in the area. This is a perfect blend of market, convenience and grocery store with the nicest employees around! read more

Looking for great prices on fresh produce? You've found the place! Lots outdoors and that is where you'll find the heaviest discounts. Inside they've got even more produce from around the world and prepared foods like kimchi, pickles, etc. They've got lots of refrigerated, frozen, and dry goods. Plenty of very diverse ethnic choices and kosher. We tend to do the bulk of our shopping outdoors, and buy a few things indoors where we check out. The store is 24x7 cash or credit ($5 minimum) with a quick checkout. The staff is always friendly and fast. Don't forget to bring your bags. You can re-tile the floors, dress the staff in spiffy neon-green polos, and tweak your name, and still... You will always be Golden Farm to me. In its original Golden Farm incarnation, I, like apparently some of my fellow reviewers (see Yelp listing), had a love-hate relationship with this market: I loved it 'cause it reminded of a time I was more starry-eyed about living in NYC. Back in the day, hubby used to work nights, so I'd often call him at midnight, asking him to pick up milk for the morning from Golden Farm, which was open 24/7. Cause I was living in the 'City that Never Sleeps,' and I could. The Eastern European girl in me loved that it provided a local resource for Blintzes, Pierogies, Pelmeni and such. The cook with a fondness for obscure ingredients in me loved that I could often find things like Tamarind Paste or Curry Gewurz Ketchup. I hated it 'cause I didn't like thinking about the implications of the infamous and endless boycott against the store for unfair labor practices. I hated it 'cause the produce, while admittedly cheap ass, almost unfailingly rotted within a day. Flash forward to this new Isaac's. I believe it's still open 24/7. Prices have creeped up, but if that means the staff is getting paid more fairly, I can deal. Though what's up with devoting such a significant part of the freezer section to ice cream, and mostly faux ice cream, aka Halo, at that? And why is it that I can no longer find Tamarind Paste or Curry Gewurz Ketchup? The inventory doesn't seem quite as quirky and ethnic as it once was. But hey, some scallions and cilantro I bought one evening were gross by the next morning. I like this place because it's opened 24/7 so whenever I'm coming home late and need to get some goods, I know I can count on them. They seem to sell a little bit of everything, including some international goods which is a plus when I'm looking for something in particular like seaweed sheets for my sushi rolls or kabobs for my rice. Their produce is nice too, always fresh. Some are reasonably priced and some are a bit higher but overall it's not bad. Overall, I like this place and glad that's it's part of the neighborhood to serve it's community. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I avoided it for a long time as it was being picketed. But now it's my go-to grocery store & has been all during the pandemic. WOW these people have worked all during the pandemic, and were there every day in the worst of it, and even as selfish morons came in with no masks on. Every day there are a ton of veggies and fruits put out in bags (unfortunately plastic bags) for $1 each. I can get so much food here extremely cheaply. (They also have the more expensive gourmet foods.) The cashiers are always extremely polite. Tip these hard workers! They have been masked for 2 years now! I will cry and mourn if this place ever goes out of business. read more

Ok, so there's only so much you can say about about a fruit and vegetables stand, with that said, here we go.... Isaac's Apple Farm is open 24 hours. Isaac's has a great selection of produce, meats, dry goods, deli meats, coffees, teas, etc.. Very limited organic section, but not a big deal, I don't buy everything organic anyway! I'm not sure how they treat their employees any longer . . . . there was a whole huge issue years ago and I think the grocers went on strike, a name change, and now we're left with Isaac. I love this grocery store for many reasons: they're open 24/7 (unsure during Coronavirus but its still later than all other stores in the area), they're pretty fairly priced but I think you can still find some better deals at Carnival (eggs were like $5 last week here - get out of town), their selection is amazing. Fresh produce, ethnic foods (mostly russian/ukranian/polish) but you can find some weird stuff in here to experiment around with. Here's where things get special - they're the only store in Kensington to consistently and every time I've gone in have hand soap. There I said it. No one else re-stocks on hand soap right now. Bar soap for the shower - sure. But where the hell is the soap so that we can keep washing our hands?! Okay. Lastly, I mostly love this store because they have a fantastic beer selection. It was just okay before but then when Isaac took over he really upped the game. I love a store that decides to push imperial russian stouts, coffee beers, and porters year round and even in the summer. And it's all craft beer - not just your alcoholic seltzers and Bud junk. I did notice recently though they stopped on stocking up on the Wells' banana bread, the young's double chocolate stout, and specifically all of the Samuel Smith variety of large bottle beers. We've been going there for 3 years now and have seen Golden Farm turn into Isaac's Apple Farm. They've changed the inside and added new wooden crates on the outside, a little flower corner, making everything a little niftier. I still think we need to face the fact that the items sold are at the verge of ending their shelf life. Some of the prices are slightly outrageous such as the $2.9 per lb zucchinis that are twice the price as the supermarket around the corner. I continue to go there because it is open 24/7, there are some super fresh and good deals and the ladies at the cashier are lovely and efficient. read more

I come here regularly and buy a few things. I appreciate their large selection. Last weekend, I witnessed a disturbing scene. One of the produce handlers dropped a pallet of blueberries, which came spilling out of the clamshell packaging onto the sidewalk--where dogs PEE and people WALK. He scooped the berries back into the containers with his hands and started putting them out for sale again. I realize that this is a business loss, but they couldn't have been paying more than $50 for that whole pallet (if that this time of year). Call it a loss and protect your customers' health! I also don't like that the cashiers overcharge for produce if you don't watch them like a hawk. read more

The recent remodel was nice. They definitely started offering some new things, and the store has a little bit nicer vibe to it. The staff are nice people. They have a pretty broad selection of anything you need: from organic spices and interesting coffee & tea, to crackers, chips, and yogurt, and cheese. And yes, open 24/7! Room for Improvement: - the produce is hit or miss. Several times I've come home to what looked like okay produce and it's totally rotten inside. Money, meet trash. - very, very little organic produce - inconsistent items: especially frozen. A lot of the frozen items are pretty ok but when I do find something good, it doesn't appear again for 1-2 months. read more

Previously known as Golden Farm until a witch hunt led to months of inevitable picketing by gentrifiers, forcing the owner to sell the place. With that sadly came a bit of normalization and compromise in regard to the groceries offered. This place was once the best game in town offering all sorts of exotic products that you simply could not find anywhere else. Many of those items have since gone the way of the dodo. Along with the remodel and clearance of beloved staples came the inevitable jump in prices. Everything has gone up, some things significantly so. But at the same time the quality has declined with more generic items you'd find in Food Town coupled with an aisle of 99 cent store cleaning products (replacing local breads and baked goods) and questionable produce that is often way past it's prime. Don't really understand why the gentrifier set so celebrates the spike in prices and drop of quality and diversity. I'd imagine half the people who protested no longer live in the area to boot.
