The building from the outside looks like an old warehouse but the office itself is very professional and comfortable. More importantly, the staff who greet who and check you in/out are so kind and caring. I also had very good interaction with the ultrasound technician and the P.A. Lauren (Dr. Lauren). The medical staff are very considerate and listen to patient needs and questions. Dr. Lauren is very knowledgeable and takes the time with the patient to make sure they understand the results and know how to proceed. They also sent the referral I needed and the information required for me to be seen. Being chronically ill with mostly invisible disabilities and the fact that I am young typically make my medical experiences difficult. I will sometimes feel I have to prove I need help. Then, continue to make multiple follow-ups for basic care. That was not the case with Dr. Smith; he understood and started helping me immediately. This was the most seamless process I have experienced related to my complex care. When we left, I looked at my husband and asked if we really just got answers and a treatmentt visit. plan on my first. We were both so happy and grateful. The only thing that could be better is getting the portal information (website and login information) at the first appointment so I can confirm and communicate with the team any challenges with getting meds approved, etc. But that is so minor!! This guy is great. Most of his patients seemed to be Hawaiians, and the wait was as long as some of the negative Yelp reviewers whined about. Reason: He takes whatever time is needed with each patient. No factory production line here. When he finally got to me, it was a thorough exam, with lots of questions on both sides, all answered. He explained what the problem was, why I absolutely did not need surgery (later confirmed by a Northwestern doctor back in Chicago), and what I needed to do to make my knee last 5-6 years before needing an artificial one. I saw him a second time a month later, and am totally satisfied. Take note, he didn't drop all his appointments to see me. My appointment was about ten days after the MRI and two weeks after the accident. I can see how short-term visitors would not like that, although it's no different than getting an appointment in Chicago.

From the check-in as a new patient, to having an aid check my stats (blood pressure, oxygen, etc), to having Dr Rempel listen and check me out, everything was fantastic. She was so incredibly thorough and spent a lot of time with me. I have never received such amazing care, attention, and treatment in any clinic or hospital back home in Canada. Thursday morning, I call Hale Makua to check on status of the Drs FAX and guess what??? NO FAX HAS BEEN SENT! The lady at Hale Makua shifted through quite a few papers, so that just put my mom farther down the list!! What takes so long to fax 1 piece of paper??? I'm sure it got lost with the her referral for GI which was supposed to be done in May! The Dr told us that she had a patient waiting since Dec for Hale Makua, I'm wondering if she even sent it back in December for that patient?!!!
