Did this one two years ago. Two words... LOVED IT! Did it with a meetup group called OCAP. My friend that I knew from my brother had a extra ticket for 25 dollars! Man... saved a lot of money for this event. I decided to spice things up from my 5k and 10k runs that I've done in the past and give mud run a chance! Gosh... opened my eyes of many things out there that I would love to do. Didn't really care about the time or anything for this one. Took my time and just came here to get covered with mud and do the obstacles... some of them I was scared of my mind. Me and heights don't mix! I got threw it though! At the last mud pit, I did it twice! Two cannon balls = one hell of a day. Skin became nice and smooth. Can't complain about that! RECOMMENDATIONS -Wear clothes that you don't mind throwing away and shoes you don't mind donating after the race.! -Extra towels so your car doesn't get dirty! -Take your time and have fun!

This race was pretty fun, after looking at some of the reviews from a few years ago I can say a lot has seemed to change. Everything was well organized, & there were a lot of helpful volunteers. Since I live in the San Fernando valley I opted to pay the $10 for race day pick up (packet mail back was $11) since I wasn't going to bother driving all the way to Orange County during rush house traffic to pick the packet up from Road Runner shoe store. Picking up my packet was a breeze, you find your name and your bib number is to the left of your name, you tell your number to the next table & you're done, the free bag check was very quick also. The race itself was great, I was in the 9am times individual part of the race which they stagger in waves so there isn't a ton of people at once waiting for others to finish mud pits or obstacles. The email you get the week leading up to your race has the start time for your wave. There were water stations at each mile mark (3 total inside the course & 1 at the finish line) & volunteers at each obstacle as well as EMTs through out the course. At the end of the race there's a large shower area & a covered area to change clothes. There were a few food trucks, taco & hot dog stand, a few beer trucks, & a stage for a few bands to play live music. The entire event is pretty fun, the early bird price for the race is around 49 or 59 which is a little expensive but on their facebook page they're always having special promo codes to enter to save $15 or 25% so it's worth it if you can get it cheaper. Oh and some tips during the race use shoes that still have some try of traction like hiking shoes but nothing too heavy. I wore an old pair of Nike Shox that I planned on throwing away & it was a bad move. The bottom were worn down so I kept slipping as I was getting out of every mud pit so I pretty much had to grab dirt and pull myself out the pits & since the shoes were so heavy I sank a lot fast in the pits & would have to pull my legs out almost each step. Also try to wear light weight clothes so the water and mud doesn't slow you down. I wore a thick pair of basket ball shorts & running in those while wet slows you down a lot too.

I ran the October 16 Mud Run with a group of friends and had an amazing time! The obstacle course kept us entertained the entire time! What's really interesting is the level of detail that goes into the course planning. For instance, I noticed the different consistency of the mud. Certain course had very runny mud, while other mud pits were like suction cups! I am most definitely running it again next year! YAYY!! Advice for 1st time mud runners: 1) Wear light fabric clothing or very little clothing. Mud gets REALLY heavy! 2) Duct tape your shoes so it doesn't get stuck in the mud! 3) Don't waste time at the shower stall... the water pressure sucks. Instead, get hosed down. And bring face/body wipes! 4) Coordinate outfits with your team!! Be creative!!

5k through the mud. Handle it!

I will admit, I had a good time. Despite the weather being hot, we weren't sweating too badly. Our heat wasn't until noon. But by then the porta-poddies were kinda gross and there was no water to wash your hands. Kind of silly saying that since we were just going to jump in the mud. But I can't go without washing my hands. I wish they would've had more food vendors. I shared a hot dog and tri-tip wrap with my friend. They both were not worth the price and didn't taste good to me at all. The chili cheese fries from the Tommy's truck were bomb! As far as the course, there were long lines to go through the obstacles. It took us about two hours to complete the course. There were some parts that you literally had to sit on your butt and slide down. Do not wear clothes or shoes you're attached to or plan to wear again. I ripped a few small holes in my sorts. And my hands and knees were all cut up at the finish. The lines for the showers were insane. I would recommend coming with a group of people, setting up a shower tent, and bringing in food of your own. It was our first time out, so now we know what to expect.

This event was so much fun! I have never done a mud run before but I'm definately doing another one. I recommend, to get the most out of the experience, to work-out ahead of time and prepare. Hiking note, I think this would be a great spot!

I did the mud run with two of my girlfriends and my boyfriend. We had SO SO much fun!! The obstacles were fun. If you're looking for a total challenge, then this may be too easy for you. You start out in waves so if you're signing up with friends be sure to sign up and register together or in a Group. Luckily my girlfriends and I got to start together; my bf had to catch up to us. You don't really get a lot of running time...the main thing is the obstacles...once you get a good momentum you have to stop again for an obstacle but it was so fun! The one thing that kinds sucked was the line for the slide at the 1 mile mark. SO many people...but it kind of gives you a chance to meet up with your friends and group so Its all good. As for clothing. I would recommend covering up your knees...there are a few obstacles where you have to crawl on your knees and the dirt has pebbles and rocks in it. Wear tight shorts or pants so that the dirt doesn't weigh you down and definitely wear high socks at least over the ankle, ankle socks will fall and you will find yourself stopping to throw your socks away. NO BUENO! :) WEAR SUN BLOCK! I forgot to and got totally baked! HAHA! Sports bra tan is NOT attractive. LOL Also be careful when sliding down the dirt hills...there are HUGE rocks poking out and if you're sliding down on your badonk , its painful! HAHA! It also could be a good idea to take your shoes to your feet as its possible you could lose them at one point. :)I don't want to give away the fun parts so I will let you find out for yourself. They do have showers but are VERY crowded...I would recommend taking many bottles of water to rinse off after...but I found that no amount of water helped without soap. HAHA I just brought a blankey and sat on that till I got home to shower. All in all I had a GREAT time! I do recommend the Mud run to anyone interested! Do it with friends! So much fun!

    Team Dirtbags 2011

This was the first ever mud run for the 13-members of Team Dirtbags. We were all anxiously awaiting the run and i have to say, it did not disappoint. Our wave didn't start until around 12:00pm which made it possible to get in a good amount of pre-race drinking of Mud Slides, Hurricanes and Zombies. Nobody could remember which wave we were supposed to run with so we just tagged along with Wave 55 (turns out we were registered for 53 but nobody cared). Richard Blade officially announced the starting of each wave. There were a few mud obstacles at the beginning and about 1/2 way through the race I was beginning to feel slightly disappointed that there weren't more. Well...that feeling quickly passed as we reached the last mile. There were an insane amount of mud and water pits along with a home stretch of mud hills that seemed to go on forever. Our team def did an excellent job of embracing the mud. Gang tackles and stealth take downs were constant objectives. We were one of the slowest teams (265 out of 319) at 1hr and 20min and definitely one of the drunkest teams. Parking was a breeze. Showers were absolutely freezing cold. Bag check was smooth and efficient. Beer garden was cool with plenty of different food options (Thai, pizza, bbq, dippin dots, Tommy's) and of course beer and live music. Great, great experience and I'd totally do it again. Maybe. Probably.

Concentrating my efforts more on upon the trail this year and less upon the asphalt, I lace up--even if it means shortening my distances, even if it means muddying up a pair of Brooks, and even if it means trudging through uneven stretches of trees and bush with sometimes no other runners in sight. However, that's the beauty: getting away from the city streets and getting back to nature. Rock It Racing offers four very cool trail runs: Caspers 5k/12K, Whiting Ranch 5K/12K, Irvine Regional Park 15K/5-Miler, and El Moro Canyon 6K/10-Miler. Running at least 3 of the 4, qualifies you for the special Rocky Series Award, plus a stylish Rock It Racing trucker hat! I'm down! (While I've finished the Series and already snagged my very cool Rocky Series Award and trucker cap, I'll be sure to complete all four runs anyway, ending at El Moro Canyon next month.) Mostly flat, without the inclines you'd come upon at Caspers and Wilding, Irvine Park was my third Rock It race (I ran the 5-mile) and it was a blast! Like the other races, there were times when the trail narrows to single lanes, but that's part of the intrigue, part of the beauty. Navigating through groves of heritage Oak and Sycamore trees, you'll find the course a little challenging at times; however, the variety of landscape--Irvine Regional truly is beautiful!--serves, if anything else, as an enhancement to your run. I love it here.

I believe there were about 90 vendors, each pouring about 2-3 of their beers on average. Great opportunity to try breweries that you've never been to. 2. The park is big and there's lots of shade and trees, which came in handy on a 90 degree day like today. 3. Lots of porta potties available throughout the park. 4. A decent selection of food vendors. 5. Beer lines are not too long and the lines go fast. 6. Lots of discount ticket codes available online for this event. Just do a search and you can save $5-10 per ticket. 7. Free water & soda. 8. Water mist blowing in certain sections of the park to keep people cool. 9. There's a shuttle service, but they don't start taking people back to the off-site parking lot until 3:30pm, so if you want to leave early, you're stuck. Cons: 1. There is only one way in and out of the park, and the lines can be long. It's worth it to buy the VIP pass for $10 more and get in an hour early to avoid the long lines. 2. Cops are waiting at the entrance/exit. Definitely have a designated driver or have someone drop you off (friend, Uber, etc). 3. Ticket prices are kind-of high, even if you can find a discount code online. I think $35 general admission is fair. 4. The food vendors were spread out in different areas. I think it'd be better to put them all in one section. Also, food is an extra cost (not part of the ticket). 5. No maps available. 6. No cell phone service available in the park. You have to catch a ride from someone to get back to the entrance if you want to call Uber. If you're a beer aficionado, then you'll love it! I'd give this event 3.5 stars overall. For 2 VIP tickets plus Uber, the total event came out to $150. Not worth it if you're just an occasional beer drinker.

I followed the official RunDisney training program from their website and trusted the process--even when life was busy and motivation was low. Race morning was early (very early), but the energy, costumes, music, and Disney magic made every mile worth it. Running through Disneyland in the dark, then heading outside the parks with rolling hills, the heat that I did not prepare for was challenging--but unforgettable. These are the things that really helped me: 1. Enlist a buddy to do it with you. I somehow managed to persuade my oldest son to come with his mama. My son who is in his prime, who at the time just came back from officer training school (boot camp). He was jumping, singing, running circles around me during the race, yelling out motivational pep talks. It was kinda annoying and motivating at the same time. 2. Use the free pacers There are multiple pacing groups, and sticking with one helps you stay calm, consistent, and confident. It really helped to see a whole group pushing through. Being next them reminded me about Dory..."Just keep swimming... Just keep running!" 3. Arrive early + move up in your corral We arrived around 4:15 AM, which gave us time to settle in and get closer to the front of the corral--huge stress reducer. 4. Stay close to the start line if possible We stayed at a hotel near the start, walked over, and later met my hubby near the mall. Less logistics = less stress. 5. Go to the Expo on Day 1 Exclusive merch sells out fast (RIP glow-in-the-dark shoes). The expo is free, fun, and has lots of freebies. Pro tip: go again on the last day for sales. 6. Practice in your costume This is non-negotiable. What feels cute for 10 minutes may not feel cute at mile 9. I practiced in my Ursula costume a handful of times. I saw people ditching parts of their costumes. 7. Hydration is covered Water and electrolytes are provided on course. I didn't need to carry water, but some people prefer to--do what works for you. 8, Know the course You start inside Disneyland, then head outside the parks where the hills show up. Save your energy for those miles. 9. Pictures Make sure your number is visible. Photos come free with it. There a a good number of photo opp in the parks. Unfortunately we couldn't stop since we were the last coral. So we did "passing" video shots. You should practice doing this. 10. Volunteers The volunteers outside of Disney were awesome! Seeing the signs, hearing the encouragement, and grabbing the sweets helped a ton. Soak it in and it will keep you motivated I discovered that I hate running long distance. At the same time I also realized I like doing it at Disney and after the race I told my son lets do the Dopey Challenge next. Where you run the 5k, 10 k and half marathon all in the same weekend. Of course my sweet son replied, "sure thing mom as long as your paying." This race reminded me that you don't have to be perfect--you just have to..... "just keep running, just keep running, running....running". If you're thinking about doing a RunDisney race, especially your first half marathon, do it. Train smart, trust the plan, and soak in every magical mile.

With the upcoming…read moreconstruction, it was announced there were not going to be anymore races for the foreseeable future here on the West Coast. This was the last race on Feb1 as the 5k and 10k took place the prior days. From what I gather from others, this can take many years to come back. I believe this was a new half marathon course at least new to me since the Star Wars Half days. This course was very refreshing, the stretch of it on Anaheim Blvd, running past the Packing District and the Ducks ice rink. The good thing about the "out and back" parts is seeing if you can spot the "balloon ladies" if it's a concern or maybe friends who run at a different pace or checking out their fits. I appreciated the DJ's and bands out there. They brought the energy! Everything was just so cute with the "It's a Small World Theme" but maybe I'm biased because I happen to love the color purple as in the bib, medal, and long sleeve tech t-shirt. It delighted me to see several runners dressed in this theme because I'm not creative enough to assemble my own costumes. PhotoPass photo opportunities were inside the park and some at the reunion area. These digital photos are included in registration and show up in the app same day. I must say the finish line replica photo op in the reunion area was a time consumer in the hot sun. Powerade was the electrolytes on course. I was wondering how they were able to get the taste and concentration consistent to realize they were being poured from the plastic bottles. Not too much to sample or any freebies at the expo if you compare that with other major race expos. The post-run snacks are not much nor memorable unless you count that nacho-like cheese from the box. IYKYK Yes, you pay a pretty penny just to participate but only you put a value on this experience. I would say if you're a Disney fan and have the means, to just do it one time for the experience but that dream has run out luck on this coast for now.

Over $3000 worth of prizes await you, so scoring as many tickets as you can greatly increases your odds. And if you purchase an Adventure Run tech shirt, you'll snag double the raffle tickets at each checkpoint! Some of the checkpoints may be a couple miles away, but hitting them, as opposed to some of the closer checkpoints, awards greater numbers of tickets; so you'll have to map out your run. Wearing our shirts to double our prize, we scored double the tickets each at Slaters 50/50, the "Wonder of Dinosaurs" (inside the Laguna Hills Mall), and at El Toro Park. (By the way, checking-in on Facebook prior to the race reveals the hidden check-in: on this day, it was to find the walking banana; but you had to also be wearing NewBalance!) Anyway, plotting our course on-the-go worked out for us, as we won--yet again--three prizes, sadly not a free pair of running shoes, but there's always next time!) I mean, seriously, who wouldn't run a few quick miles for a new pair of NewBalances. Am I wrong? Sound like fun? It is! Register online: adventurerun.com. Oh...did I mention the free beer?

The Adventure Run by Roadrunner Sports is every 4th Thursday of the month. They set up a little…read morerunners village in the parking lot and you go inside to check-in even if you pre-registered online. This month they unveiled a new RFID bracelet system that makes checking into spots along the map easier. Maps with checkpoints are emailed prior to the event so you can plan out your route. There are different checkpoints each month! Some checkpoints offer drinks or snacks so it's worth it to try to make it to each one. Last night there were 8 checkpoints and you can go at your own pace. I made it to 4 before running back to the starting point. You don't need to make it to every checkpoint but each checkpoint is worth a number of raffle tickets. You need to finish your run in an hour and make it back to the start in order to scan your bracelet and pick up your free beer. Last night's beer sponsor was Green Flash Brewing company and they had a grapefruit IPA and passion fruit beer on tap. If you buy an Adventure Run shirt, you get double the amount of tickets with each check-in. If you attend 3, 5, 7 Adventure Runs in a year, you get a small prize. Last night's prize was an Adventure Run mason jar mug. In the runners village, they have vendors serving snacks, drinks, and wares for you to try. You can even test-run shoes. Last night's shoe sponsor was Adidas. The cool raffle prizes at the end range from: free entry into local races, free shoes, free snacks, free drinks, free mugs, free water bottles, and free services from the checkpoint sponsors. You must be present to win. If you plan on waiting around afterwards, they have an after-party with even more raffle prizes at a local restaurant; last night they held it at CPK. Definitely bring a jacket since it cools down considerably after the sun goes down. I saw someone hanker down in the beer garden with a Tommy Bahama chair and blanket. This event is definitely fun whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out. It's great for families too since it's open to all ages. There was a big turnout last night too. It's offered from April through October on the 4th Thursday of the month.

I will have to say, this was more fun than those because of the obstacles and mud. I was very fortunate this was only a 5K. I'm paying for it at my age ;o) Lets talk about the obstacles. Right out of the gate your first mud pit, cold and muddy. I gained about 5 pounds of weight in each foot after that first obstacle. The hurdle of hay and cargo climb were easy. When I ran through the tires I saw a gall take a tumble, watch those ankles. Next was the wall climb which was not much of a wall. I made sure to speed up before the tunnels so I wouldn't be stuck behind people. After the tunnel crawl was the monkey bars and my first water station, thank goodness. After my monkey adventures was the plastic barriers. This was cool because staff was hosing us down with water. I hope that wasn't reclaimed water, yuck! Swinging from the ropes and doing the sludge crawl was a cinch. What really scared me was the balance planks. With my weak ankles and bad knees, I slowly walked this obstacle. Towards the finish line we go. The over under was a piece of mud cake and the grand finish was the last mud pit with were people, including myself, went swimming under the strings. Over the hill and a nice roll down, thank goodness I was done. At the end was a Mach One Tag around my neck and a B line towards the portable showers. The showers on wheels are the BOMB! Wash away all the filth. City and volunteer staff did a great job at this event. I can't wait until next year to do it once again. My finishing time was 31:47 and I ranked 94 out of 1128 participants. I'm happy I survived and I can't wait break 30 minutes next time.

I see I just need to shave off six minutes to be female numero uno! +Location: Corona air field, CA. So far from anywhere I would normally be; I spent two hours driving here from Lancaster and one hour driving to Long Beach afterwards. +Registration ($55 individual): Register online and pick up your bibs beforehand or sometime on race day. No line, practically. Registration fee included a gray "Filthy & Fit" (thank goodness it's not the embarrassing "I like getting dirty" shirt) and a nifty finisher medal with wings. +Parking ($5): Gates open at 7am. The lot directly across from the event filled up around 7:35am. There is additional parking a short walk away, but the walk is miserable after the race 'cause it's so cold! +Bag drop (free): Quick and efficient; they've got a great system going on with hanging bags on the fence by bib number. I'd recommend storing flip flops and a towel. +Waves: First wave at 8am, then every 15 minutes. The waves aren't set in stone, so we and some other adventurers snuck into the 8:15am wave. It's best to be in the earlier waves so the obstacles aren't as mud-coated. Course: Plenty of water stations around the course! 1. Mud Pit: Within a minute of running out from the start you get wet and muddy - more wet than muddy, for which you probably want to poke holes through your shoes so they can drain better. 2. Over Under Mud Pit: If there aren't a million people rocking the mud waters, go under if you can avoid getting your face muddy. I tried to go over a cylinder that was clearly too tall and slippery and fell face first into the mud water. 3. Fishing Net: It's a small net for climbing up on one side and going down on the other. 4. K-Rail Hurdles: I got up on one side, sat on top for a second and jumped down on the other. Bob freaking leaped over these like a ninja. 5. Monkey Bars: The hardest obstacle in this run: I apparently don't know how to monkey bar! 6. Everest Ramp: It's like a skateboard ramp with a rope to pull yourself up to the platform. I was scared mindless I was going to fall backwards cause I couldn't get on the platform! Then you can slide down a pole or climb down a ladder. I lagged everybody's race time by going down the ladder. 7. Spider Web: Avoid crawling by pushing the strings down to step over them. 8. Wall Climb: Wooden beams that you go up 20 feet or so and come down 20 feet or so. 9. Tires: You would do better to walk through these. My shoe got caught on almost all the blasted tires. 10. Cargo Net Climb: The net was huge! Each hole was big enough for me to fall through and crash and burn. This obstacle was okay climbing up but while going down there were multiple annoyingly wobbly people going up who were wobbling the net on my side. 11. Tunnels/Mud Pit: I made the mistake of trying to go feet first with the intention of sliding through. I got nowhere. 12. Slide/Mud Pit: If you have trouble walking through the mud, try crawling. I was having a fantastically great time crawling at the same pace Bob was trying to walk through the sludge. The last pit had painful rocks on the bottom so we had to walk instead of crawl. +Wash off and Foam zone: Rinse off your shoes and socks with the high powered water hoses and jump into the glass truck to get hosed down with scented foam soap and warm water! Samples of the peppermint soap got to come home with us. There wasn't an actual shower area or a changing area this year :( +Festivities: Bob and I got massages and some bomb food (Piggy fries and piggy sliders!) at the Bacon Mania truck. A portion of the proceeds from the run will go towards the Corona Pilot's Association at the Corona Municipal Airport to improve airport property, facilities, and operations. Other than banged up knees from crawling, blisters from muddy shoes and some soreness the next day, this is a fantastic event I would run again next year! *Stats (that probably shouldn't be so proudly posted) Overall: 114 out of 630 Women: 23 out of 323 F 20-24: 12 out of 47 Finish: 43:32 Pace: 12:27

Joseph Phelps, Pipillon, St. Supery? These aren't second labels and also if you scour carefully, there were some boutique wineries present that had stunning wines! Of course there were tons of food, love Anqi's crab dish, Driftwoods Porchetta, B candy's rainbow bright mini cake, braised beef cheeks from chef JoJo from the Honda Center, Buttercake from Mastros, Clubster roll from SlapFish....tons of rediculous good stuff! You get to lounge on oversized sofas overlooking the swirly building that of the Civic Center. There were also beer/vodka/tequila/non alcoholic drinks available. Super fun event, would HIGHLY recommend taking people who enjoy food and wine pairings to the next level.

I remembered each bite bringing together a myriad of bright fresh ingredients with complex flavors. This festival has since become a household name and this year's increase in guest attendees reflects it's popularity. I had the opportunity to attend the event again this year and the culinary lineup for 2017 was equally spectacular. During Sunday's tasting my plus one and I enjoyed the finer things in life and indulged in so many delicious tastes. Many of Southern California's most esteemed fined dinning establishments were present including Pelican Grill and Bar, Red O-Restaurant, and Alexander's Steakhouse just to name a few and there was an abundance of seafood and steak options. If you love wine there's not better place to sample so many different varieties, though I fancied the Kentucky Straight from Duke Bourbon. There was also a cooking demonstration by Top Chef contestants Chef Amar Santana and Katsuji Tanabe and viewers had an opportunity to sample their version of arroz con pollo. It was hilarious to see those two banter back and forth. If you love seafood and steak, this event harmoniously brings two of my favorite proteins together with class and style. While many vendors offered them prepared in a variety of manners - marinated with secret ingredients, roasted, fried, my favorite dish was the Baja cocktail served in a tin-can from A&O Kitchen and Bar. It was simple, but the large chunks of charred squid and shrimp paired with the creaminess of the avocado on a crunchy tortilla chip just made it a perfect afternoon bite. It reminded me how good squid tastes and how infrequent I eat it. Overall, this was a wonderful event and I look forward to attending again next year. Cheers!
