4th time running this half marathon. This is probably one of the nicer local SoCal races, and it has tons of ocean views and scenery, with just enough hills to challenge you, but not kill you. This year had 10,000 runners for the half and I believe 3000 for the full. I recommend getting in early to beat the crowd. I showed up around 4am to find tons of cars already waiting to get into the fairgrounds parking lot. The nice thing is the organization of literally a hundred buses that transports the runners to the starting point in Newport - Fashion Island. From there, you have to run back to Costa Mesa. The after-course event is kinda cool but gets extra congested because of spectators/family adding to the crowd. They have post-run food and drinks (and alcohol) with tons of vendors with freebies. The entertainment is an 80s cover band called Flashback Heart Attack that is actually pretty good. Also, being a Legacy Runner (3 years in row) gives you access to a nicer bar area, and an extra shirt. I've learned the hard way that if you stay longer, the harder it is to drive out of the fairgrounds. Traffic can be a hot mess. I left immediately after the race this year, and escaped with ease. The expo for bib pickups on Saturday are cool for getting discounts with vendors, and other free goodies. The only issue these days is that they have kid race events in the morning that make the pick up times harder to get in and out. Also, you have to pay for parking just to attend the expo, then pay again for parking on the day of the event. I say get as much free stuff as you can to offset these parking fees. Anyway, whether you are doing this for the first time, or for fun, to challenge yourself, or for fitness, they have races for all levels of runners.

2025 OC Marathon is open for registration. We cannot wait to join the OC Marathon May 3 & 4 events. The OC Marathon office located in an unmarked business plaza, will open occasionally to the public (so sign-up for communication), to buy past merchandises. These items are also displayed annually at the festival booth in a box off the side. The OC Marathon office is small with narrow hallway packed with boxes and boxes of merchandise (and goodies) from prior year.

tl,dr: Great experience! The half-marathon route passes by spectacular views of SoCal. Plenty hydration stations throughout the course. Likes: + The semi-marathon route starts at Fashion Island and runs along PCH and ends at OC Fair. Meanwhile it also passes by exotic, lesser-known landmarks such as the VEA Marriott Newport Beach hotel and the enticing Marine War Memorial. + Almost excellently well-organized. + Several hydration (water and Gatorade) stations were placed throughout the semi-marathon route. + Numerous cheerleaders with hilarious signs. A few of which read: "Run like you stole something" "Finish up so I can drink" "Run if you think I'm cute" + There was even a guy in a wheelchair doing this run! Major props to his dedication. + They use good technology to track your pace and finish time and to capture photos of you throughout the run. Non-likes: - I don't like that their website warns us of a $12 parking charge for both bib pickup and race day itself, yet it turns out parking at the OC Fair for this Marathon event is free on both days. Misleading. Their website FAQ needs update. Concern: * I don't think the Yelp address for this OC Marathon is correct. 3100 Airway Ave, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 is for the John Wayne Airport (SNA). 88 Fair Dr, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 would be the better address for this Yelp venue, since both the half-marathon and the full marathon routes end at the OC Fair.

I've run this race a number of times since 2014 and really appreciate the difference that this locally owned and operated race experience provides versus some of the big corporate races. The race is owned and operated by runners and they really seek to create a great experience. Many of the volunteers have been with the race for multiple years and it shows. Obviously COVID produced several challenges, and of all the races I had signed up for in 2020, this one had the most impressive array of options to make it right: 1) Run virtual (good for those who wanted to keep legacy status) 2) Run in 2021 3) Defer to 2022 I chose to both run virtual to keep my legacy streak intact and then return to the in-person event in November 2021 (will be back in May come 2022). The race team was great about communicating updates as they were able to, based on all of the changing information and working with state and local authorities. So happy they could put on an event in 2021! Great swag as always... the traditional short sleeved tee, medals for each distance and various challenges, and as a bonus to those who ran in person, a really nice quarter zip top! Legacy runners also got a super cute tote bag. Solid course (referring to the half--have not run the full) that takes in great views of the ocean, bluffs and with a grand finish on the OC fairgrounds. Excellent support at water stations and plenty of people cheering all around. This is a race I keep on my schedule annually! :)

I've been running the OC half over a decade + since 2011. The OC half was my first half in SoCal and the beautiful course and great community atmosphere keeps my coming back year after year. The race weekend has become a family event with both my husband and son having run their first half marathons at OC! My younger daughter has had a blast running the 5K. The finish line race festival is always a blast! I'm so grateful the OC marathon weekend is my local race!

This was my last half marathon to complete the beach cities races for my trifecta medal and it was by far my favorite. Starting in one point and ending in another is best vase scenario. The scenery is gorgeous. I have done it two year in a row and the weather has been perfect both times. It's such a fun race! Seriously couldn't suggest it more!

OC Half/Full Marathon is by far one of my favorite local races. I've done the half a few times, and the full marathon once, and can't wait to run the half again in May! The course is beautiful - the first few miles are around some gorgeous oceanview homes that are fun to take in! There's always a ton of local crowd support, both from locals and the dozens of SoCal running clubs. The course has some challenging moments (namely that hill at mile 8), but has an amazing fun finish on the fairgrounds and a great tunnel of people that fill in the finish line chute. If you haven't done this race yet, add it to your list. You won't be disappointed.

I first ran the OC half marathon in 2012 and twice again these last 2 years. This year, I also ran the 5k with my 3 year old in a jogging stroller. The half marathon course is full of beautiful neighborhoods and scenic views along the beach. The after party with live band is always a blast! You cannot beat the perfect SoCal weather and SoCal vibes. This is definitely one of my favorite races that I look forward to each year!

The F4 car simulation felt incredibly close to what I'd imagine driving a real formula car would be like. The force feedback, handling, and overall immersion were on another level. Even more encouraging was the positive feedback from the instructor, who pointed out that I was already counter-steering some drifts naturally. I returned in 2018 because it was now part of the Lexus LaceUp Running Series. Currently, the distances that they offer are 5k, 10k, and half marathon. I ran the half marathon. The race now starts and ends at the Pelican Cove Park just West of the Terranea Resort. *Parking* For parking, they have 3 locations: Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall, Salvation Army College, and Point Vicente Interpretive Center. Each of the locations are close enough to walk, but they'll have shuttles going around to pick-up and drop-off people. *Course* It was beautiful and just as hilly as I remembered it to be! Most of course was kept in the residential area about a stone's throw from the ocean just off of the main Palos Verdes Dr. Be sure to do your hill training or else be prepared to suffer! They even have a short steep section just after mile 10 that was a timed hill challenge. The fastest male and female will each win $500. Overall it was a well organized race. Although the race had a few quirks such as confusing separate starting lines, I liked the improvements that they've made with this race. The packet pick-up was quick and they had plenty of portapotties. Gear check was a bit chaotic as they were swamped with runners dropping off bags all at the same time. One of the bright spots with these Lexus LaceUp races was the post race food from the food trucks! That was some good quality food all included in your race registration!

This was the last race on Feb1 as the 5k and 10k took place the prior days. From what I gather from others, this can take many years to come back. I believe this was a new half marathon course at least new to me since the Star Wars Half days. This course was very refreshing, the stretch of it on Anaheim Blvd, running past the Packing District and the Ducks ice rink. The good thing about the "out and back" parts is seeing if you can spot the "balloon ladies" if it's a concern or maybe friends who run at a different pace or checking out their fits. I appreciated the DJ's and bands out there. They brought the energy! Everything was just so cute with the "It's a Small World Theme" but maybe I'm biased because I happen to love the color purple as in the bib, medal, and long sleeve tech t-shirt. It delighted me to see several runners dressed in this theme because I'm not creative enough to assemble my own costumes. I must say the finish line replica photo op in the reunion area was a time consumer in the hot sun. Powerade was the electrolytes on course. I followed the official RunDisney training program from their website and trusted the process--even when life was busy and motivation was low. Race morning was early (very early), but the energy, costumes, music, and Disney magic made every mile worth it. Running through Disneyland in the dark, then heading outside the parks with rolling hills, the heat that I did not prepare for was challenging--but unforgettable. These are the things that really helped me: 1. Enlist a buddy to do it with you. I somehow managed to persuade my oldest son to come with his mama. My son who is in his prime, who at the time just came back from officer training school (boot camp). He was jumping, singing, running circles around me during the race, yelling out motivational pep talks. It was kinda annoying and motivating at the same time. 2. Use the free pacers There are multiple pacing groups, and sticking with one helps you stay calm, consistent, and confident. It really helped to see a whole group pushing through. Being next them reminded me about Dory..."Just keep swimming... Just keep running!" 3. Arrive early + move up in your corral We arrived around 4:15 AM, which gave us time to settle in and get closer to the front of the corral--huge stress reducer. 4. Stay close to the start line if possible We stayed at a hotel near the start, walked over, and later met my hubby near the mall. Less logistics = less stress. 5. Go to the Expo on Day 1 Exclusive merch sells out fast (RIP glow-in-the-dark shoes). The expo is free, fun, and has lots of freebies. Pro tip: go again on the last day for sales. 6. Practice in your costume This is non-negotiable. What feels cute for 10 minutes may not feel cute at mile 9. I practiced in my Ursula costume a handful of times. I saw people ditching parts of their costumes. 7. Hydration is covered Water and electrolytes are provided on course. I didn't need to carry water, but some people prefer to--do what works for you. 8, Know the course You start inside Disneyland, then head outside the parks where the hills show up. Save your energy for those miles. 9. Pictures Make sure your number is visible. Photos come free with it. There a a good number of photo opp in the parks. Unfortunately we couldn't stop since we were the last coral. So we did "passing" video shots. You should practice doing this. 10. Volunteers The volunteers outside of Disney were awesome! Seeing the signs, hearing the encouragement, and grabbing the sweets helped a ton. Soak it in and it will keep you motivated I discovered that I hate running long distance. At the same time I also realized I like doing it at Disney and after the race I told my son lets do the Dopey Challenge next. Where you run the 5k, 10 k and half marathon all in the same weekend. Of course my sweet son replied, "sure thing mom as long as your paying." This race reminded me that you don't have to be perfect--you just have to..... "just keep running, just keep running, running....running". If you're thinking about doing a RunDisney race, especially your first half marathon, do it. Train smart, trust the plan, and soak in every magical mile.
