It's always fun to laugh, drink and eat in the Improv at Irvine Spectrum. Weekdays, we have been at the Spectrum and spontaneously said, hey let's go to the Improv! We buy tickets at the front door, sometimes minutes before the show starts. We usually have no idea who is performing. Comedy shows have kinda been my thing for a really long time, and the right venue and crowd are super important. I've been to the LB Improv and Irvine is pretty much set up the same way. You arrive, someone seats you, order food and/or drinks and watch the show. The seats in the back are not all forward facing so you can get a neck ache after 2 hours. If you want to sit closer to the front (and face forward), you can pay more or arrive super early. In my experience, the earlier shows tend to have an easier or less rowdy crowd. Service is relatively decent, food is relatively palatable and parking sucks, but it is located at the Irvine Spectrum so you're going to have to hike anywhere and everywhere here. read more

Horrible food and service. I'm usually very empathetic when it comes to service; I get that things are busy. This was a new low, it's been years since I came across something this disastrous. - Servers seems to prioritize those ordering directly rather than via QR codes. It was very unclear who your server even was, particularly because they showed up maybe once or twice during a 3.5 hour interval, only checking in without being asked for to close out the check (despite this being handled via the virtual orders. - Servers brought the wrong food multiples times. Beverages were warm by the time they arrived. - We finished eating around 7, they never cleared our plates or drinks. - Servers were dismissive and inattentive despite us being very polite. Better communication or simply acknowledgement would have been more than enough. Food came straight out of a microwave. We ordered boneless wings, cheeseburger egg rolls, nachos and sliders. Soggy and bland all around. Closest item to passable was the sliders. Avoid the cheese burger egg rolls like the plague. This stuff tastes and was presented worst than something you'd buy in the frozen food section at a low end grocery store. It's sad - the improv used to be much better than this. I've been too many comedy shows at first I was a little taken back by the rule of purchasing two items from their menu. My husband and I initially thought we would only get alcoholic beverages but we ended up trying a few things from their menu and they were all delicious. Especially the fried oreos with ice cream and hot fudge. The servers were very attentive to our needs. We sat very close to other people but at the end of the day we had a great time and had awesome seats. Improv needs some IMPROV-EMENT. The interior needs an ungrade/update. Service is a hit or miss. Food is consistently not great. We were here on Friday night for a 9:45 show. There is a small time frame between the first and the second showing, and the stuff did a great job getting everyone in swiftly. We ordered the food via QR code and food came quickly. We had a spinach artichoke dip and a Caesar salad. No utensils were provided. We waited and waited. We tried to flag down any waiting staff who was bringing food to others, but no one took notice, either intentionally or unintentionally. Eventually we had to get up in the middle of the show to ask for utensils and napkins so we could eat. AND THEN I found a piece of plastic wrapper amongst the tortilla chips. Been to Irvine Improv many times and seen hilarious comedians like Jo Koy, Kevin Hart, Gabriel Iglesias to name a few. I definitely prefer these smaller more intimate venues than the larger stadium ones. Doors usually open 90 minutes before opening act and typically you will get better seats if you line up earlier. But whats annoying is how they will fill up every section in order and not let you choose where to sit. So they will put you at the end of a section but wont let you go up a row to get a center view. If you ask they will say its VIP but its BS because only booths are VIP. They are just really filling up sections as you come in. Also they seat you across and cant sit on same side because of QR code assignment which sucks if you want to hold your date. Staff is hit or miss. Some are friendly. Some not so much. 2 item minimum per guest and can get pricy. Food is hit or miss depending on what you get. The chicken bourbon sandwich with fries are very good. The fried oreos with cookies n cream ice cream and chocolate syrup is heavenly. Typically you cant get fried oreos unless you at the fair but this desert is a step up. Ice cream also quality. If you can handle the calories get this. Drinks are pricey. Guac is not fresh and more beans and corn than avocado. Hot tea is just lipton. Overall its still a good time for the show but with the cons I mentioned its 3 stars. read more

I saw my first comedy show here and it was a great time! Once checked in, a host will guide you to your seats. Each seat has their own QR code to order food and drinks, which makes things very easy. There are a lot of food options as well, but we ate beforehand. I had the Old Fashioned ($16), which was quite strong. Great time for a date or group! EDIT: I had to lower a star because I just noticed that I got double charged on my bank statement. 2/5 -- VIP Stood for "Very Invisible Proximity" Dropped $400 for a VIP booth at Irvine Improv (covers 4 people with a $200 food credit). The food, staff, and Will Burkart himself? Great. He's genuinely hilarious and made the night bearable. But the VIP experience? Total letdown. For $50 a person, you'd expect something special--closer seats, maybe a better view, or anything that justifies the price tag. Instead, we were seated far from the stage with what looked like a sea of 100+ people in between. You actually get a better view for less than half the cost if you just buy a regular ticket. I would've loved to take a photo to show just how far the VIP booth is from the stage, but photography wasn't allowed. Maybe that's how they keep the illusion alive for newcomers--no proof of how bad the setup really is. Ironically, the most comical part of the night wasn't on stage--it was the VIP seating. Would I see Will Burkart again? No doubt. Just not at this venue. Hopefully, another Improv or a different spot offers a better setup that's actually worth the price. read more

The food and drinks: 1 Star Kinda crapy and way overpriced: Think bar food at a bar in an airport right by a gate. My beer has been Luke warm 3 of the 5 times we have been in the last 18 months. You are not assigned a specific staffer that checks on you throughout the evening. If they forget something or get something wrong. You are probably not going to get that fixed. you have to tip before your food gets there is you order using their QR code system. Which is sort of sketchy. On our last visit, we were charged for drinks that never came. no-one inside could help us after the show, so we had to go to the box office and have them find a manager, who refunded our drinks, but not any of the tip for the service we did not get. Great for date night. Use valet, as parking at the spectrum sucks, go have a nice meal somewhere, and then show up for the late show. Buy a drink each and enjoy the comedy. read more

For a comedy club, the food is exceptional! The appetizers such as the meatballs, loaded fries, wings and the donut holes were just perfect! The main dishes, such as the meatball sandwich, the sliders and various salads tasted great! Our server, Darren during the Carlos Mencia show was phenomenal! Food served promptly, drinks were exceptional, his friendliness and suggestions were better than anything we've experienced at the other Improvs. The host was very accommodating when it came to securing us line of sight seats and over all the experience is the best of any Improv we've ever been to! My family and I have been to quite a few shows here and it's always been a memorable night filled laughs, good drinks, and food. I've had the guacamole, meatballs, sliders, spinach artichoke dip, and sangrias - all were pretty solid, would recommend choosing these items to share with your party for the minimum spend. I've gotten seats in a booth towards the back and also up by the stage, and I honestly prefer sitting up front with other people. Usually the comedian does crowd work with folks up there and you can't really understand what's happening or get the jokes from sitting in the back. This is a good sized club and seating can be tight. If you're claustrophobic or don't like rubbing elbows with people you don't know, this may not be the place for you. I ordered a margarita with an upcharge to get Don Julio. There was Zero salt on the rim and the drink was terrible. Watered down and what I could taste of the mix was not good. I sent it back and ask for a shot of Don Julio neat. The waiter then brought me the smallest shot I've ever seen. I sipped it slowly to made it make it last as long as possible and enjoyed the show. Irvine Improv regularly has some pretty well known comedians. It is best to arrive early to get the best seats for the popular shows. There is a 2 item minimum per ticket, it doesn't have to be alcoholic drinks. You can order directly from your phone. Prices are certainly more expensive. The service we received was friendly and very attentive, regularly checking up and refilling drinks. Food presentation was pretty nice. However the food was the definition of just okay. Burgers were slightly cold. Pizza edges overly charred. I feel like they probably have too many different items on the menu to really get things right consistently, especially on the busy nights. Went here to see the Glaucomfleckens show with a friend and was pleased with my experience! Although I have never been to a comedy show before, I thought Irvine Improv did a great job orienting guests to their seats and ordering refreshments. In addition, the staff was quite nice and friendly. Even though we arrived 15 minutes early, most of the seats were already filled. Luckily, since we were a small party we still ended up getting to sit in the front. For bigger groups, I would definitely recommend coming earlier to get your ideal spot if they aren't already reserved. I parked in the nearby Spectrum theater, which also frankly had more traffic than expected. I would suggest those who are attending the show allocate at least 10-15 minutes for parking. Although I enjoyed my experience, I'm taking off a star because of the quality of the food and two item minimum for each show. To be honest, I thought the taste was very average compared to the prices and would recommend getting drinks instead. read more

The ambience and the food situation ruined it for me. You were forced to order two items even though their food is bad. Quesadilla is very soggy and chips are greasy and tasteless. The margarita is very low quality. Tastes watered down. Everything is pretty much fried and greasy and extremely overpriced. Between tickets and the food you're thinking that you're having a reasonable night out and suddenly you realize you have spent $100 for one person minimum between the tickets and the food they force you to buy plus tip. I agree with the other reviewer that stated that the servers come out pressuring you to pay the bill and hovering while you're trying to watch the show. I saw someone filming and taking a picture of the comedian and so I thought to myself, I'll do that too, and all of a sudden security comes out of nowhere and puts his hand right in front of my camera without saying anything. I had to actually ask, "I cannot take pictures?" Nothing was announced that we could not take pictures. How rude and abrupt. If you're a small party they cram you in with other people and it's awkward that you have to sit in the middle of people you don't know and make small talk. I have to tell you what a great night of laughs. -I'm calling it" the Sunday funnies" The food has gotten so much better at the improv. I was so impressed by their chicken street tacos. They have this wonderful way of getting the food to you as quick as possible. The wait staff will take your order at the table and as they're taking the order they send it off to the kitchen . Two minutes later your food is sitting in front of you. It's amazing. I recommend you get there at the time that it opens which is 6 o'clock so that you can get a nice table upfront. First time here. Easy to get to. Plenty of parking. Felt a little lost at first but read a review saying its near the movie theater so we headed that direction. Once we were at the movie theater we looked around and yep... its right there. Now we know! There's a bunch of places to eat around outside but we read that there was a 2 order minimum inside so we just waited till we were seated. We got there right when the doors opened and got seated in the front. VIP seems only necessary if you can't make it when the doors open since they reserve nice floor seating for you. Menu wasn't too shabby. We sampled a bunch of stuff. Drinks (4): decent cocktail and draft menu. I got a space dust and wife got the watermelon margarita. The margarita was decent. Sort of tasted like watermelon jello. Not too sweet either. Not bad. Spinach and Artichoke dip (4): Good and cheesy. Improv Burger (4): Decent burger. Not too gourmet but not fast food either. Didn't really taste like an Umami burger since they seemed to be partnered with the Improv but it was decent. Served with thick cut fries which were seasoned nicely. Of course I asked for hot sauce and they supplied some tabasco packets. Perfect for my ketchup! Philly Cheesesteak (3): They use the cheese sauce which ain't really my jam. My wife loves that stuff though so she'd rate this a 4. Meat was thin. I felt the sandwich was sort of small for my liking as well. Taste was decent though. Love the ordering process. First time here, we came to see the Glaucomfleckens. Nice venue, we had general admission tickets. We waited in line at 1:30 and were promptly seated. ( I recommend getting in line before 1:30 if you want the best GA seats. ) The waiter promptly came and introduced himself. We ordered through the app. The food was delivered promptly. The food was surprisingly good. We had the nachos, mini burgers, street tacos and Chinese chicken salad. The street tacos had plenty of meat, I ordered a shredded chicken, shredded beef and shrimp. We also ordered the mini donuts and strawberry shortcake mason jar. They were both very good as well. The show was great, medical humor for us nerds. This place is fun! Some good comedians come here. I've seen Jo koy before and second year in a row getting to see Chris D'elia. I would say the food isn't the best. Drinks are okay. I would say they are definitely on top of drinks though. But I don't want my food to come out that fast, makes me feel like was it actually cooked ? or how long was it sitting there? So far overall it's been a good time. Place is clean. Restrooms are well maintained. Over all customer service is good all around. I would say the food and drinks are a bit over priced. Irvine Improv is located right across from the theaters at Irvine Spectrum Mall. Easy process to purchase tickets online. However for general admission you there is no assigned seating. Came to see Russell Peters who was great! The doors opened at 5.30pm and there was a short queue at that time which moved along quickly. You are seated by the host in order of your place in the queue, no choosing seats. The show started at 7pm which meant we just hung out and chatted. They had a few 5-10 minute opening acts and the main act lasted an hour. I did not like that there was a 2 item required minimum purchase per person on top of the ticket price. I do not eat so late and do not drink alcohol. The only tea they had was Lipton black tea. I ordered 2 sparkling waters just to make the minimum. I would've much rather they increase the price of the tickets and save us from begrudgingly be forced to order something. Park at the theatre parking at the mall. It is free but it can get extremely busy on the weekends so plan ahead and factor in 30 minutes to find parking and walk over. I loved the evening, especially Russell Peters who I have seen twice before in Dubai. I personally would not rush to go back to see unknown comedians mainly because I do not want to be forced to order food and drinks. read more

Here is a concise list of why I would never come back here: 1) they were late opening the doors and let everyone stand in line an extra 30 minutes without any explanation whatsoever. 2) They collected our phones very slowly and in such an unorganized way, the process of letting us in became an eternity. 3) The waiter we had had an attitude and never came back to check on us until the end, I assuming because we only ordered water and didn't expect a big tip. 4) They require you to buy at least 2 drinks, something we did not know about until taking our sits. Neither of us drink alcohol and we aren't big spenders, so it was frustrating being forced to spend more money when we already spent a lot on tickets. 5) Their opener was awful. I do not know who picked him out, but he was one of the least unfunny people I have ever heard in my life. 6) A girl passed out in line and no staff came to help her, just people around us in the line. 7) They will not bring you free tap water unless you order food, so we were forced to BUY water. Great place to see comedy. The Irvine Improv is a fantastic venue in the Irvine Spectrum Center. The shows do get sold out. We saw JR De Guzman, who was very funny. It was a great show. We arrived early to have time to eat before the show started. Once seated we ordered through the app using the QR code on the table. We ordered a drink, 3 appetizers (sliders, buffalo cauliflower and fried pickles) and a meatball sandwich. We closed out the tab and gave a good tip on the app before we even got any of our food and drink. We probably should have waited to pay. It took awhile for the food to get to our table. The table next to us (the tables are so close to each other) returned all 4 of their dishes because they were cold and didn't receive any silverware. When our food finally arrived, they were warm, not hot. The sliders however were COLD!! The server didn't want to believe me and said he'd go talk with the manager (without grabbing the plate of sliders). After almost 20 minutes, he returned to say that the bun warmer wasn't working and that they are redoing the order. He gave me and my neighbor a pass for another show. It was a nice gesture but when looking online, it is only valid for a couple shows/comedians at the 2 Improvs near me. In the meantime, I requested water a few times but never got any the whole time I was there. 5 minutes had not even passed since he told us about the bun warmer when another server came rushing to our table with sliders. It looked like the same EXACT plate, except they took the sauces off. It still wasn't hot but barely warm. For all of our food, we didn't finish it. I noticed that our table neighbors didn't finish their food either. I would highly recommend to eat lunch/dinner before coming to the show. There are so many great food options at the Irvine Spectrum Center. Just order drinks, since it's required that you purchase 2 items. We spent almost $200 from the tickets, tip, food and drink (since we paid ahead of time on the app). Really disappointed!! Park in the parking structure near the movie theater. I've been to two shows in the last month and both experiences have been fantastic. The first was Jr DeGuzman who I've been following for a while and the other was Ryan Hamilton. The caliber of comedians is of the highest level with many top names, headliners, Netflix comics, etc. The location is also perfect since it's at the Irvine Spectrum so it's easy to grab any type of dinner ahead of time or just walk around the mall while waiting. It's also great that you don't have to drive all the way up to LA to see a top comedian. The staff is also great. They're all super friendly and do their best to get everyone into the venue quickly and on time. They open the doors as posted and the show starts at the time they say as well. I love the ability to order food and drinks both via the app and with a server. The food and drinks come out quickly and the servers do a good job of following up and checking in often. The food they serve is perfect for sharing and enjoying casually. It's primarily tasty bar food, which goes perfectly with their wide selection of beers, wines and cocktails. The venue is arranged perfectly and both times I sat right up front able to interact with the comedians. It fits a lot of people, but the ambiance makes it feel like you're in your living room.
