Saw 'The Odyssey' (the first feature film ever filmed entirely in 70mm 1.43 aspect ratio IMAX) here at the Regal Irvine Spectrum with my wife, her mom, and our neighbor friend at the 11:40 Thursday show. This theater is one of only 4 in the LA area (25 in the U.S.) that can show the 1.43 aspect ratio. The entire experience was spectacular. Got tickets directly through the Regal website about 2 weeks before this, and paid $31.99 plus $2.50 on-line fee for each ticket. Most of the prime seats were already taken, but was able to stay away from the front row seats (would not recommend those because of the height of the screen). Parking is free in the large indoor parking garage, but it's a bit of a walk from there to the front of the theater (even for handicap spots). We got there about 30 minutes before the advertised start time, and they let us into the theater about 10 minutes before start. There was only one 'preview', with a quick message from Denis Villeneuve, thanking Sir Christopher Nolan ('dark?' knighted in 2024), to allow a full IMAX filmed battle scene from Dune: Part Three. The movie started right after that, and quite a few people came late, thinking there would be a lot trailers. As for the seat's comfort, they were OK: a little bit of recline and not particularly wide (felt like I was on an airplane). People got up throughout the movie and your feet will get stepped on if you don't pull them in as far as possible. The theater actually reduced the number of seats from 590 seats to 300 in 2019 to give more comfort, but still cram as many people as you can. As for the reason one would drive an hour from DTLB to Irvine to see a movie: the screen is 90' wide and 65' high (1.38 aspect ratio). This means for a 1.43 movie, one could use the entire 90' width, but use 62.94' of the height (wasting about 2 feet vertical). The Odyssey can be shown in 3 different aspect ratios: 1.43:1, 1.90:1 for the more common IMAX (like the Regal IMAX in Long Beach), and 2.39:1 for standard. This means that one is missing about 24% of the total image area from 1.43 to 1.90, and about 40% from 1.43 to 2.39. Obviously, the film was shot/edited to make that missing 40% not critical to the movie storytelling...but it mattered for me on this film. Like other Nolan films, the movie's plot, acting, and score itself was excellent (though probably not worth watching again on a non-IMAX screen for me). What made the film the best movie experience I've had since early adulthood, was the sheer size and clarity of the cinematography throughout the film. Many of the landscape scenes, especially during action packed battle scenes: it made the film for me as a visual spectacle where the vertical immersion was palpable. And the sound accompanying was pretty damn good, too (and very loud). Making a trip to NYC next week, so wanted to see if seats in biggest IMAX in country was available. Sold out, even almost 2 weeks after release. Shows that this movie in 70mm is an event, and super glad that we were able to see it in that format. Even watching the end credits roll was an experience, as they were able to fit so many names as the screen rolled. US: -- Royal Cinema in Pooler GA is the largest: 101' x 76.2' (70.6 usable) -- most popular (and slightly smaller) is AMC Lincoln Square in Manhattan: 101' x 75.6' (70.6 usable) World: -- Melbourne is biggest: 105' x 75' (73.4 usable) - this has the tallest usable screen. -- Sydney is tallest: 95' x 79' (66.4 usable, wasting 12.6 vertical feet...did someone make a math error when building this thing?) 1.90:1 -- 24% missing The two IMAX theaters near downtown LA: -- TCL (Chinese) Theater in Hollywood: 94' (87.4 usable) x 46' (full vertical usage) -- Regal LA Live: 80' x 42.5' (42.1' usable) - has full recliners and has least amount of wasted vertical space. Ever since the remodel coming out of Covid, the theater is trash. The vinyl seats with no foots rest that reclined about 10°. I just went to see the Odyssey in IMAX and asked for my money back. It's opening weekend in the IMAX theater. This thing has been sold out forever. Starts 20 minutes late. 15 minutes in the movie just stops. When asking for my money back, the teenage manager could not have given less of a care. Because of the chairs, this is possibly the worst theater in Orange County. I've avoided it like the plague for years but I thought the Odyssey! IMAX! The second I sat down I thought oh no that's right. I forgot. The crappy seats. Well maybe I can manage. Nope. An amazing theater! I had never seen a movie in IMAX or 70mm so this was a first and what an experience. The Oddessy was brilliant; Regal Irvine Spectrum theater is beautiful, seats are comfy and there seemed to be a great view from every seat. Loved the concessions and the coffee shop. Prices were very reasonable as well. We got tickets for the 7am showing and drive up from San Diego. I felt bad for the employees, I know there were a lot of late and early showings and they looked like they had been through a rough day or two so far. We had a great time though and look forward to coming back up to watch a movie (whether in IMAX, 70mm or even the regular theater). I enjoy coming to this theater. With all the different theater experiences and plenty of concession options, I'm willing to drive out to this location for blockbuster-type movies. I usually watch movies here during the week, either in the morning or early in the afternoon, when crowds are light, and parking is easy. For concessions, I usually get a popcorn, hot dog, or nachos. I really like the Doritos Nachos with the cheese on the side. You can add jalapeños or extra cheese for an extra cost. There are fountain drinks that the staff will fill, or you can grab a bottled drink from the fridge at the cashier. There are a few other food and drink options to the left and right of the lobby, as well as a bar for alcoholic drinks. One of the main reasons to visit this Regal location is the 70mm IMAX theater. I've seen Marvel movies, Superman, Oppenheimer, Sinners, and recently Project Hail Mary. I love how large the screen is, and the audio is outstanding and immersive. The ideal rows, in my opinion, are G through J, which offer a good sightline for the enormous screen. Other theaters I've been in have been clean, with seats, screens, and audio systems that are fairly well maintained. ScreenX (larger than regular screens) and 4Dx (with motion) also offer a unique theater experience. The bathrooms are clean, and the men's room has plenty of urinals and stalls. I haven't had any issues with the staff or services provided. You can purchase tickets on the mobile app or at the self-service kiosk inside the lobby. This is my favorite regal in the area, due to the sheer size of the theaters. They are massive, but your experience is shaped by where you sit. Luckily, we sat in the upper middle section (which I think are the best seats in the house ). What I didn't like is that the seats didn't recline as much as the UTC movie theater seats, but overall they have a pretty good selection of movies and everything looks very modern and sleek. Parking can be a hassle depending on what time of day you go, but I would recommend these theaters (as long as they are showing the movie you're looking for) read more

The Regal Irvine Spectrum is one of the few nicer movie theaters left. It's a huge theater with a "real" IMAX. They also have special events with invited guests only. I like it that the theater doesn't smell greasy with popcorn butter flavor as most theaters. That makes me sick to my stomach sometimes. Extremely expensive for a low quality experience. My family went to see a movie in IMAX this weekend. Immediately, you're hit with extreme costs (tickets were $33 PER PERSON). We arrive to an extremely long line for concessions. An employee recommended using the app instead, except the app kept giving me an error, forcing us to wait in the line. Tell me why concessions is nearly twice as much as Cinemark. A small soda is $10.49. A small popcorn is $11.49. A small water is $6.99. In terms of quality of the food, it was awful. I had to wait 20 minutes for my pizza; the pizza was thin and tasted like cardboard. And the popcorn could not be saved by butter or salt. A complete waste of $50 for my family. We finally make it into the theater. Trailers and commercials lasted THIRTY ONE MINUTES. The movie start time was 12:30PM, but in reality, it didn't start until 1:01PM. In total, for my family of four to see one IMAX movie with concessions set us back $170. I would still consider that expensive if it was a perfect experience. But the fact that we had low quality food and seats that weren't comfortable makes the experience almost criminally pricey. My boyfriend and I have the movie pass and have seen so many amazing movies in theaters. Those pics are just a small handful. We believe this is the best theater in our area! Not only do we come all the time but love to watch movies on IMAX. Last movie we saw was Stranger Things. Not really a movie but was such a fun experience with everyone. We also love that it's in the Spectrum so we can have a full day of fun while attending the movies. We did have a incident where watching. Five nights at Freddy's 2. There were really loud kids in the theater. It was VIP so people pay money to enjoy that experience. They were being really loud and obnoxious and someone told on them. A worker came in very quietly to hear them and eventually kicked them out. It was a great experience after and nice knowing you guys don't allow that type of behavior! 11/10 service and movies!! read more

Wait, why do they only have an average of three stars? Regardless, I say 4 stars and extra star for Jeff-- who went above and beyond with their limited VIP menu selection for drinks. Was bummed when we looked at another location where they actually offered food and specialty drinks! This location doesn't offer that. Jeff could have said no sorry, we don't have that, but he improvised and made me something similar to a White Russian with the limited ingredients he had. Jeff needs a raise for thinking outside of the box! Garlic fries were delicious and garlicky (if you like a strong garlic punch). Wasn't expecting much, it wasn't bad! Came out hot and crispy. Saw the second Wicked (For Good) and had a great time! Staff were all nice and helpful especially the young lady at the main kiosk. Theater is in a great location with a lot of foot traffic. Like many others we don't go to the movies very often.. we just stream whatever it is we want to watch.. when a truly good cast makes a movie we will go see it as it is best seen on the big screen. This is one of few theaters in SoCal that offer IMAX 70mm screen (other location in LA/OC is AMC Universal Cinema at Citywalk 19 at Universal City). For the movie 'One Battle After Another', the filmmakers want audience to watch in VISTAVISION. However there's only one theater in LA with VISTAVISION (Vista Theater Hollywood) and all seats were completely booked. So I basically went with the 2nd best option which is 70mm IMAX screen and booked myself a ticket for approximately $30. [Parking]: Parking at Irvine Spectrum Center is free (for self-parking), but expect to spend 10+ minutes to find an available spot during busy dinner rush hours. [Amenities]: I like this theater has a Lavazza Cafe. Arcade is located on the 2nd floor and looks pretty fresh. [Movie experience]: The IMAX 70mm here is much better than the one from Regal Edwards Ontario Palace. There was no preview for movie trailers for the IMAX 70mm and the film started 20 minutes after the scheduled time. Seat was somewhat comfortable, but it was not a reclining seat. [Conclusion]: Overall it was a solid experience. Not sure I would keep coming back to see films in the IMAX 70mm format because I got a slight headache, but this is one of better Regal theaters I have visited. read more

I was surprised how long the hallway is for imax LOL its literally a long corridor with multiple turns so be sure to go to the bathroom and get snacks before. The seating is a bit more steep and the seats are outdated. Because of the seating is do like the recliner ones more. The screen is curved so im not sure if it was the full immersion I felt like I saw when imax was advertised as a kid. Went recently to see Avatar in IMAX, it was a great experience. For starters they always have a couple people running the snack booths so you never have to wait too long to get your popcorn and stuff. The movie theater had been cleaned nicely, and the seats are spacious even when you're not in VIP. The restrooms are clean with lots of booths. And the movie theater is located in the spectrum so while you're waiting you can shop around. The arcade upstairs is a nice treat too! read more

The regal Irvine spectrum is the place to be! The staff is always friendly and fast. The imax 70mm is the way to see a movie!

Recently, Regal offered two different promotions for Novocaine during the movie's opening weekend: 1) Earn 1000 extra credits when you see Novocaine in 4DX 2) Earn 500 extra credits when you see Novocaine I wanted to take advantage of both promos at the same time, but when I looked up 4DX Theaters on the Regal website, the only locations that popped up for me were Regal Irvine Spectrum, Regal LA Live, and Regal North Hollywood. I saw reviews for the LA Live location indicating the astronomically exorbitant parking fees there, and Regal North Hollywood is just way too far of a drive for an afternoon getaway. Also, I wanted to eat lunch at a restaurant that happens to have a location in Irvine Spectrum, so it was a pretty easy decision: I'll take Regal Irvine Spectrum for 1500 extra credits please! After my lunch, I went inside Regal, though the first door I tried was locked. The next door I tried magically opened for me, and I'm not sure how that even happened? Anyways, I immediately noticed how different it was from the other Regal locations I've been to because I was greeted by kiosks as opposed to a sign that directed me to purchase tickets at the concessions stand. I had a Regal Premiere Movie Ticket with me, and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to use the kiosk with that. I asked Tanner, a super helpful employee at the front, if it was even possible to redeem my Premiere Movie Ticket via kiosk. I would have guessed no because I wasn't sure how I'd turn it in, but he said there was a way to do it. He pretty much guided me through, which included selecting my seat. Either I had trouble selecting the seat on the seating chart, or the yellow hue on the screen really messed with me. But Tanner was very helpful and was also happy to take my Premiere Movie Ticket. And he was also willing to scan my Regal Crown Club card after I had paid for my ticket since the kiosks threw me out of my element, causing me to forget about opening the Regal app on my phone. For the 4DX feature, the normal price of an adult ticket is around $25, but with my Premiere Movie Ticket, I only had to pay $10.50, which is still a pretty good deal, especially for this enhanced feature that provides quite an immersive experience to the viewer! More on that later. I came over 20 minutes early, so I took the time to explore this Regal. It's quite different than the other Regal locations I've been to. For one, there are two bars, one on either end of the theater, and they serve alcoholic drinks. This is in addition to the concessions stand between these bars, plus there are plenty of tables and chairs that you might think you're at a mini restaurant inside the theater! They have a second floor, and I actually went up there to see what it was: a game room! I was a little surprised to see nobody up there, but they have a fair amount of games that you can play either before or after the movie. I chose a seat in the rear corner of the auditorium, and these seats were very unique! The first thing I noticed was a "Water on" in blue LED lighting. I wasn't totally sure what it was, but kept the feature on just to experience it. The previews ran so long! I came in about 10 minutes before showtime, and the previews kept going for 40 minutes afterwards! I had more than enough time to leave the auditorium and wash my hands before returning to my seat. During the previews, my seat kept shaking. In fact, I think the next three seats to my right were shaking as well, kind of like a Disneyland ride that makes you feel like you're moving even though you're really staying in one place. The movements were sudden and jerky that for someone with a weak arm like yours truly, I had to clutch my left arm to make sure my shoulder wouldn't pop out of its socket. The 4DX experience also sprays some water, though I couldn't tell where exactly the water came from. I felt some on my head during one of the scenes, but couldn't discern the source of the spraying. There were also moments when I'd feel a nudge on my back when the main character, Nathan, had his back struck. And the seats kept rocking and shaking during the dramatic fight scenes! As thrilling as the movie was to keep me on the edge of my seat, I also couldn't be that close to the edge for fear I'd fall off! The experience was great nonetheless, making it feel like I was almost in the movie! Or in the middle of an earthquake as there were several times during the movie when it felt like an earthquake was happening! If an earthquake was actually happening during a fight scene, I'd probably be thrown off like a rider on a mechanical bull! After the movie, I tried to get some water to quench my thirst, but all four of the water fountains inside were defunct! One bar was unmanned, and the other had one employee, but on the phone. Overall, good experience at this Regal! I might be back if there's another exciting movie with a 4DX promo like Novocaine. If you do experience 4DX here, hang on to your seats! read more

Regal Irvine Spectrum is my happy place for movie nights! I always come here for the IMAX and 4DX showings, there's just nothing like it. The sound, the seats shaking, the screen, it makes regular theaters feel like watching on a laptop. I haven't tried the food yet, but I've sipped on a few of their signature movie cocktails, and they're surprisingly affordable (and pretty tasty for theater drinks!). The theater is usually super clean, although the bathrooms can sometimes be a little off (stall doors not locking or not the freshest), but honestly, I'm here for the movie magic, so it doesn't stop me from coming back. I wanted to come back to this IMAX theater in order to see if it was worth coming here rather than my local, renovated IMAX screen in my neighborhood. (Short answer is "yes", if you care about onscreen visuals more than comfort.) Note: for this review, I specifically focus on Irvine Spectrum's IMAX screen as I don't come here for their other experiences, since I have tons of nice, local theaters that can offer me similar experiences. Objectively, Irvine Spectrum's IMAX screen is the largest in Southern California and amongst the largest in the US. (Other comparable screens can be found at Universal Citywalk and Ontario). The IMAX screen here is reportedly 65ft tall and 90 feet wide (compared to Universal's screen, which is 58 ft tall and 78 feet wide). Other IMAX screens at smaller multiplexes will have different aspect ratios and slightly smaller screens (likely 30-35ft x 50-60ft), but they'll definitely still be top-notch with resolution and sound. In Regal Irvine's IMAX room, the seats are leather, but they are not recliner seating; therefore, if you want this type of comfort, then you may be disappointed. For a movie like Interstellar, Oppenheimer, Superman, Mission Impossible, Avatar, or F1, films made and produced with IMAX cameras, I want the most objectively immersive theatre experience. For a movie like "How to train your dragon", I can adequately enjoy it with my local IMAX screen. If you are a cinephile who cares about the visuals, then I think it's worth it to know and understand about how to get the most of what you're already paying a premium for. read more

The Irvine Spectrum is amazing! One of my favorite parts is this Regal Theatre. My wife and kids can shop for hours, so I go over to Regal and watch a movie, everyone's happy! Lots of movie selections as well as snacking sessions. They have the IMAX, reclining chairs, it's always clean. They employ a bunch of young people and that is awesome. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the price. I just saw Caught Stealing with my son and it cost $$$. 2 tickets, 2 large sodas, large popcorn, gummy bears and red vines, thats a quick $100 right there. I guess it's my fault for being gluttonous. Highest 2 Lowest with Denzel, A$AP, Ice Spice, The Allstate guy and other big names was being shown at select theaters and The Regal Irvine Spectrum was one of them. I arrived early and when I walked up I thought to myself "this Regal location is beautiful".. but that was only outwardly, imo: Inside was a whole different story. I walked in and went to concessions but it was not clear with which registers were open. Staff were behind the counter having conversations with one another instead of tending to guests. Guests were kind of standing around trying to figure out which registers were open just as I was. I was finally able to place my order for snacks and a drink. The staff weren't friendly. It felt very much so like they didn't want to be there. The guy who helped me out was flat and needed to be brushed up on customer service skills. I went to the restrooms and OH MY GOD... what a MESS!! For a theater to be so grand the restrooms were trashed! For the amount of staff standing around running their mouths you would think the restrooms would've been impeccable... I couldn't believe it... total shock! Finally, I go into the theater to find my seat. There's folks in other people's seats... including MINE: meaning they probably didn't pay for the movie and just left one movie and came on over to another... myself and others LITERALLY had to ask folks to get out of our seats! I DIDN'T see not ONE staff come in to do a walk through during the movie... if they would've done their walk-thru then people 'movie hoppin' would've been clocked! AND get this... after the movie I needed to use the restroom before hitting the road and hours after the fact it was STILL in the same disgusting condition: water all over the sinks, stall floors with debris, didn't smell nice... Overall, I appreciate that this theater had the movie I needed to see playing. Loved the diverseness of the crowd within the theater and the recliner chairs were nice. BUT I would NEVER return. Worst movie experience. The seats were painfully awful, imagine being in the last row of a Frontier Airlines seat up against the toilets with no recline. That's the same comfortability this movie theater offered. Theater was large but the seats reclined maybe 3 inches and the smell was putrid. read more

Top Gun: Maverick premier. This is my favorite movie theater in Orange County. It's newly renovated with a beautiful interior and a couple bars. They have large theaters with stadium seating and nice recliner seats. They play almost every major movie and have every type of screen from IMAX, RPX, 3D and 4DX. read more

I like how you buy tickets through a kiosk and to save "more time" you can order your food. The workers in the front scanning the tickets were very friendly. However, the girl who helped us out in the "hot foods pick up" was rude af. There was another party standing in front of us but it took about 10 minutes until we flagged someone down to check in. The girl who helped us out, read our order, rolled her eyes and got us our popcorn. Mind you, the popcorn wasn't even hot and it was stale af. The seating was clean. Keep in mind, not all seating is a recliner. So when choosing your time, make sure to pick with recliner or it'll be a regular stadium but will still partially recline. read more

Get your tickets/seats online in advance. Kiosks to purchase are also available but most likely the popular movies will be sold out or all the good seats are taken. Beverages (nonalcoholic and alcoholic) and food are pricey but what's a good movie without buttery popcorn. The butter station needed to be thoroughly wiped down and swept for fallen popcorn. Not sure if you can ask for a tray or something to hold all your treats but it can be struggle to juggle drinks, popcorn, candy. I would highly recommend watching action movies via 4D. Hands down, no other way to experience it. Warning: you might get motion sickness. Plus, don't have any open containers in the cup holder because it WILL spill. Bathrooms were not clean; this was before and after the movie. Sad. There is an arcade on the second floor. Concession stand and bar on the first floor. read more

Kudos to this Regal location for having boba and Lavazza coffee inside the theater! Definitely win some major points for me. Also, this Regal has one of the best 4dx experience ever. The sound, seat movement, water effect and wind are all great. This location also has one of the best true IMAX in So Cal. I will for sure keep coming back here whenever I want to see a movie fit for IMAX or 4dx. Parking is plentiful and all free. Not to mention there are lots of food places around. read more

The red seats smell like a bounce house and are so uncomfortable that I will never come back here. My girlfriend and I went to see Michael Jackson but we didn't expect to feel like we went 10 rounds with Rocky punching our spines. I was literally shocked, tickets over $20 and my girlfriend had to watch the movie leaning forward out of the chair. I cannot even express the level of discomfort, chairs designed by Satan in partnership with Jigsaw. At least I don't have to pay to go to the chiropractor anymore because I no longer have a functioning spine. read more

This is our Go-To movie theater just bc we live nearby, the bar, different experiences (from 4D, IMAX, 4DX, RPX, VIP with service and the recliners). Concessions could get busy and I'm not entirely sure the Dipping Dots, coffee, and boba stands are open all the time. It's at least $20 per ticket. We're not the type that go on an opening day but we've never had a problem. If you want the more lucrative experiences you'll have to go around when the movie comes out. As a member we've accumulated enough points for free snacks or a movie. Service is nice. Location great. Overall, we like this place and will keep coming back. read more
