I have had chronic neck issues for over 10 years and I have been treated by numerous physical therapists, chiropractors, as well as trying therapeutic massages. In March 2025, I had a severe neck and upper back spasm and couldn't even get out of bed so I had to go to urgent care. I had a huge knot in my neck which limited my range of motion and when I turned my head it made a crunchy sound. I definitely give Irvine Acupuncture a 5/5 rating. Dr. Rey's experience, knowledge and treatments have made my life so much better. He is also very good at explaining things and answering questions. I initially went in for help with insomnia. I had tried all OTC sleep aids which had worked for years and then they started having the opposite effect. I tried all the latest prescription sleep aids but they didn't work well and left me drowsy all day. Dr. Rey's treatment has given me an extra 60-90 minutes of sleep at night, but even more importantly, I get a lot more deep sleep and REM sleep which really makes a difference. I am so thankful - I actually look forward to going to sleep now knowing that I will be rested when I get up. He has also helped me with my almost daily headaches and neck pain. He has helped me deal with withdrawal symptoms from stopping HRT treatment. He's been able to help me with foot pain which is very important to me since I'm a big walker! I've tried many many acupuncture places in Orange County (mostly Costa Mesa and Newport Beach areas). Overall, Dr.Reza Tafazoli has been my go to for the last several years. I've had lots of muscle pain and nerve issues like Neck and Back Tightness, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, TOS surgery, and mild sciatica. In All cases, the Dr Has been the overall best at treating these. He offers various modalities including Acupuncture, ANS (electric stim for muscles/joints), cupping, and even Scar Tissue Therapy (mostly for post-op surgery healing). Since I'm covered by insurance I generally get 50 minute sessions with as many modalities as I can, sometimes I go over 50 minute sessions if the Dr thinks I need the extra treament (many times I do). But mostly importantly the Dr actually LISTENS and focuses on the areas I request in detail. Some acupuncture places basically ignore your "intake form" and do what they think is best, or might limit what they work on in a session. On a minor note, he only has 1 other coworker: Nick, the guy who helps with scheduling, payment, and insurance benefits and negotiating. He's consistently been one of the most helpful front desk office guys I've worked with, making sure to stay communicative has he learns about how my insurance works with acupuncture and the different modalities. read more

I couldn't even lay on my stomach to have treatment. Modern doctor, I've done the recommended treatment for sinuses and shoulder/back pain. He uses a variety of techniques, from guasha, cupping, gliding cups, acupuncture, and electric stimulation. Additional "new age" techniques that you might not find at other offices are things like: NuCalm patch on your forearm, binaural beats, and low frequency emitter to help your body enter a state of healing and rejuvenation. AMAZING!!! I usually don't believe in this type of stuff but I been having really bad upper back pain/shoulder area for a few months now. Went to a chiropractor and he told my my rotator cuff is almost torn and I need 23 Sessions for $1400 etc etc which is all BS! Another overdue review, coming your way! Reza, you were absolutely a Godsend to my traumatic ankle sprain and knee bone bruise from last October. I saw Reza dozens of times between November and March. Usually going twice a week. I had no idea what acupuncture could do, as it was my first time using this healing modality. I was pleasantly surprised after just the first session. Reza takes the time to get to know you as a patient and it pays off in spades. He used scraping, a bone massager, cupping, and oils, in addition to the needles. I truly believe it helped to accelerate healing and movement and the swelling finally went away 5 months later. It was one of the more gnarly sprains with fractures and torn ligaments, and the prolonged swelling was really no joke. I don't believe physical therapy could have helped enough. He also worked with me to calm my vagus nerve with various techniques that also worked well. It's been a few months since I've gone back but there is not one week that hasn't gone by where my mind/body hasn't reminded how beneficial treatment is. This review is long overdue. I have never tried acupuncture before and heard great things about it for pain management. So, I decided to try this office due to all the great reviews on Yelp. I want to start off by saying how much I appreciate Dr. Reza. He is amazing at what he does, and he genuinely cares about your well being. I've been a nurse for over 8 years and I believe that my back has finally gave up on me. My upper and lower back started to feel like it was on fire. I was experiencing crazy burning sensation day and night. My back felt tight and stiff when I wake up in the morning. I would have trouble trying to find a comfortable position, even at rest. Falling and staying asleep was difficult. My pain was also associated with tension headaches that would throb like crazy. After just two visits my headaches completely went away. My upper and lower back pain has also improved after 4 visits. Dr. Reza does a combination of treatments for me not just acupuncture. I feel so relaxed every time I come in for treatment I would fall asleep at times. I'm able to sleep so much better at night and not struggling to find a comfortable position. If you're looking for an acupuncturist who knows what they're doing, I would highly recommend Dr. Reza! I believe his treatments has made such a huge impact on my well being. I'm from out-of-the-area and am spending the summer in Irvine. I've had chronic upper back pain for 30 years. About 11 years ago my pain disappeared after 3-4 months of acupuncture and cupping. Let me start by saying this review is long overdue! Before finding Reza I had tried out three other acupuncturists in Orange County. They were all decent but none compared to my experience with Reza. I struggle with chronic fatigue, muscle aches, and stiffness, headaches, you name it. While I get plenty of pain reduction with Reza I have to say his whole approach and outlook on life is what really has transformed the way I allow stress to affect my body. When I first went to him I was going through a very stressful time in my life and my body was so tense (neck, shoulders, and head regions). We do cupping and scraping every time as well. I feel I need to note that he is also very gentle. As someone who is VERY sensitive to the slightest touch for whatever reason, he is always careful and considerate of that. I look forward to my weekly appointments for many reasons... they keep me sane, depression at bay, help manage the stiffness and pain and help with my energy levels. Ray is the owner at Irvine Acupuncture and he was amazing. When I showed up at his practice last July/August with polycystic ovaries (a couple cysts as large as 3.8&4.0 cm) and an irregular cycle -making conception impossible-Ray assured me we could fix this. I started twice weekly Acupuncture and within one month all of the small cysts were gone (pain was now manageable) and the two larger were half the size they were before (seen via ultrasound). By mid-October I was pain and cyst free (confirmed by follow up ultrasound at my OB), and I cancelled my surgery! By the end of October I had gotten pregnant and now I'm 4+ months along. I would highly recommend seeing Ray if you're having any sort of fertility issues or female pain/cycle issues. I really hope I don't start to have the same issues I did after I have our baby, but if the cysts come back I would for sure give him a call again. read more

I was referred by a fellow tennis player, who spoke highly of her experience with Ray in treating her arm pain. I had injured my wrist playing tennis and figured I had nothing to lose by trying Ray. I've had acupuncture before to treat tennis elbow, but wasn't impressed by the results, but decided to give it another shot since the recommendation was word of mouth. I came to see Reza at Irvine Acupuncture for my Carpal Tunnel Syntrome in both hands. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that causes numbness, tingling and other symptoms in the hand and arm. Before being treated by Reza, I was seen by the Hand Specialist Surgeon and recommended a surgery. I did not agree with the recommendation and wanted an alternative treatment for my CTS. Reza has applied multiple treatments such as acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, far infrared heat therapy, scar tissue therapy, cupping treatment, Graston therapy and pain relieving oil ointment.
