Great thing was, I didn't even have to take a bus to get here! This place is conveniently located on State Street, a fitting spot for students who go to UW- Madison. The repair took a few days because they had to order the part but once it came in, the actual replacement only took a couple hours. By the time I got out of class, my laptop was as good as new. I did get a used part (because it was cheaper and I'm not rich) so there were small scratches but not that many (2-3 perhaps) to actually complain about because they aren't distracting let alone an eyesore. I liked that they did have the option to get a used part, though, instead of getting a brand new one for way more. I did wait a few days before submitting this review because I would've jumped on yelp as soon as I got home from the store but I figured I should wait to see if any malfunctions occurred before I start raving about my experience. Lo and behold, it's been almost a week and my computer is still doing great. One thing I'd like to point out is that the people behind the desk have great costumer service. The guy that I communicated with added some additional services that were of no cost like lightly cleaning my keyboard and adding a screen protector which I found to be really nice. I've already recommended my friends to this place and will come back if I ever need their services again (but hopefully not for my sake).

We received the keys quickly and because I had initially ordered 1 and really needed 9 they called me to clarify my order to make sure I was satisfied. Thank you Rocket Cell hopefully I won't need you again but if so I will not hesitate to contact your company!

The wonderful folks at Graphite helped me say goodbye to an old friend: my 17" 2008 Macbook Pro…read more This workhorse computer saw me through a lot of hard times, from dissertation-writing to starting my own business, website, and beyond. I had already been to the Apple Store for emergency Rx after getting the black screen of death, only to realize that those poor technicians are working within a very tight timeframe and under high pressure. Though knowledgeable and friendly (at least in my particular case), they are almost certainly unequipped to tackle the more complicated issues like a fried hard drive or logic board. I am so very glad, though, that they referred me to Graphite for further diagnostic help. A visit to Graphite confirmed my worst fears: the hard drive was fried. Thus began an epic, 2-month quest for the perfect computer that fit within my budget, but that also got me certain minimum specs that I just couldn't do without. At first, I wanted a refurbished 17-incher from 2010 or later. Bob, the owner, did some sleuthing for me: he tracked down some representative models online, looked at all the specs, ran the numbers, and gave me the breakdown of what it would cost to get the computer up to my minimum requirements. That convinced me to target a newer, 15-inch model. Finally, Bob told me about a fantastic special Graphite was running and I was hooked. I ended up with a new, BANGING computer. My data was all backed up from my old computer, but I didn't want to lose some of my programs if they could be salvaged. So Bob spent a LOT of time on migration, since my hard drive was apparently fried in a most spectacular way. Despite that, he didn't charge me any more than the original quote. He also spent a lot of time with me to be sure that programs had transferred and were working properly, and that everything was set up correctly. The staff at Graphite are all friendly, capable, and HAPPY. Bob told me that he has a couple of staff who came to him by way of the Apple Store: not only were they well trained, but they also gravitated to an environment in which they could spend more time taking care of customers. Graphite is in the process of expanding and remodeling as a part of gaining Apple Premier Reseller status. This is going to be an incredibly cool store to visit, and I'll definitely be back (once my wallet recovers) to check it out. So if an optic-nerve-fryingly bright, pressure-cooker type of environment isn't your thing when you're shopping for Apple products or getting technical help, come give Graphite a look. Actually, you should really check it out anyway.

But in the past couple years I've sent several devices their way to be fixed. I used to perform such repairs myself, because I'm a DIY guy, and felt it was an expense I didn't care to incur. For a while that was great I learned something useful and it served me well in broadening my personal knowledge and skills for work I make my living to a degree. But to do it myself took time that these days I find is not effective in savings. They are highly efficient and ultimately are about the same out of pocket cost in terms of labor + materials + time to receive parts. Overnight getting a battery replaced in an iPhone. Having a touch screen digitizer replaced. I took several hours my first try and was stressed to no end when it came to the installation. If I broke it the final cost was essentially the price of an iPad so I accepted that the pros can do this job and I'll be a pro in my line and we all win! Killer prices and the guys at this shop are both knowledgeable and take a moment to talk if they have time. Some stops they are busier than others, todays the owner was present and assisted me with some related things of interest which was great, all the while he performed an additional fix for a phone I had been picking up. Another couple were there as I was just arriving and he took a moment and solved their issue and simply did it as a nice thing to do, pro bono! I thought I was the only living person left to occasionally give my customers free service simply as a kindness. The man walked back in 10 minutes later and dropped a 20 because he recognized the deed. Supreme!
