Many regulars but they are very friendly and don't shun strangers. The owner Mario is a hoot because he loves to play bar dice for shots. He's an old Italian guy who had some interesting ties to the Balistreri family if you catch my drift There is a cute outside seating area during the summers. Prices are very reasonable for a good pour. Every second Saturday of the month they have a raffle drawing plus meat raffles which is so Wisconsin. Don't come here looking for a craft cocktail because this isn't your place Grab a stiff drink, play some games of chance and meet some very friendly people. It's a local dive bar and clearly a regulars place but they were friendly and said hi as I walked in. No food from what I could tell but one regular offered popcorn from the self serv machine which she says was a good batch this time. I live no near this place but as a local bar and I can see it's charm. I ordered a Gin Rickey and it looked dark after explaining twice to the bartender how to make it and it was absolutely awful because he made it with JB whisky and not Gin, whiskey, seltzer and lime juice with a fresh lime doesn't mix very well at all. My bartender miss heard me and corrected my drink with no problem. If I lived in the neighborhood I would probably be a regular.

These were next level and our little one's eyes got so big and bright when we walked in. Then things went downhill - we got there right at 11am when they opened and we were seated at a table in the back by a hallway that had a draft. I asked if we could sit in the big room with more for my daughter to look at while we dined in. The waitress in that space rudely said "no" stating the room was still being cleaned and tables set up - major bummer. Our actual waitress was very sweet and attentive. We ordered a Mediterranean rice bowl (without meat so it was vegetarian-friendly), a Philly with onion strings and a slice of their seasonal peppermint cheesecake. The food was mediocre. The bowl was lacking and a small portion. If someone doesn't add a protein it would be nice if you at least added some more rice or cut the price down. Just my two cents. And there was a piece of metal in the onion rings which the waitress thought was from the scrubber they used to clean the equipment in back. They comped the Philly meal with the onion rings which I felt was the least they could do. I get it - things happen - and we didn't make a big deal about it but that's a deal breaker for us. Especially if our toddler is eating out with us because then I'm on edge waiting for the metal to make a repeat appearance and that's not enjoyable for anyone.

I feel very much at home because we share very similar tastes in home decor. It feels very cozy as soon as I enter this bars. I believe we had two wonderful bartenders who took our order and quickly brought back out drinks. Great service, dimly but warmly lit (which I love to help me avoid migraine triggers), lots of conversation and chattering going on around us. Also, PINBALL! My partner and I spent a decent chunk of change having all the fun. You should really go. And experience it all!

The have an impressive selection of WI beers, a great (and generous) old fashioned, and awesome trivia night. The bar was busy and the bartender eventually learned my name which I had zero expectation of since there were so many people. Love the vibe inside, the decor was cool and the trivia host even joked that maybe you'd find an answer to a question in all of it. For the trivia, I really appreciated the format. 3 rounds, each with 2 categories of questions. There aren't really long drawn out breaks in between questions which keeps things moving. They do take a break between each round, which is perfect so you can grab your next drink. The categories are fun and challenging. Losers get to pick a category for next week which I think is a fun twist as long as the category isn't super niche. But I guess that is the advantage of you are the loser that shows up the next week to play. Overall fantastic experience. I would recommend Blackbird to anyone who wants a hipster dive or a fun night of trivia.

We got lucky and had bar seats open up after about 5 minutes which allowed us to grab cocktails and relax. After a bit we ordered some Brussel sprouts as an appetitizer and before they could show up our table opened up. My wife chose the 2 piece cod fry with chips while I opted for the perch fry with fries. Everything was spectacular. The bartenders were jumping around each other to keep people happy at the bar and the rest of the staff get people's bellies filled with food. I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.

When we came here a few months ago the bartender, Neil, was very friendly and welcoming. He showed us fantastic hospitality and let us know that they're hoping this would be a nice place for the locals to come with live music and yard games during the summer. He gave us coupons in hopes of a return visit and we talked this place up to several of our friends. When we returned last night it's like the place completely changed. What was a clean, sparkling, new place has turned into somewhat of a disappointment. I could go on and on about all of the negatives, but the bottom line is this isn't the same place it was a few months ago. Perhaps with better training for the staff on consistency and quality control on the beverages this could be a cool place to go to.

Being brand spanking new (never really understood that expression, does being new deserve corporal punishment?) is a plus for the decor and a reason to understand the employees are getting used to things. A couple of hotel ownership changes ago this place was pretty popular among area workers looking for a lunch break but it's pretty underused right now. Tuesday there's a great lunch special, $3 "Build a Burger" which really just means you can order a hamburger with various toppings and condiments and it comes with chips. I got fries instead with no upcharge. I don't know who started this "build-a-burger" phrase but I don't think it sounds very appealing. It sounds like construction work, and I'm not well suited for that sort of hard labor. Anyway, that's quite the bargain, the burger was pretty good and I was the only customer. There were no YELP reviews of this place, but on Trip Advisor someone said that they didn't like the "costumer service" here. I think if you wear a costume to a restaurant, you're not really entitled to being taken seriously, though I suppose it depends on the costume. Service is fine (though I did not wear a costume), the food quality is pretty good hotel bar food, parking is easy and you could do a lot worse around here.
