One of my favorite restaurants! It's one of those restaurants that my whole extended family can go to and everybody leaves full and happy. The food is excellent. The pork belly dish melts in your mouth. And the steak is amazing. My son dreams about the steak. And they use seasonal local farm to table ingredients so the menu changes regularly but is consistently stellar. The owners and wait staff are so nice and warm and the restaurant has a very country charming feel so it's one of those places you'll never want to leave. My future mother in law lives nearby...and let me tell you it is one of our favorite places to dine when we are back east. First off the historical nature of the building adds the charm of this lil peace. I'm a huge history nut, so anytime you can dine in a room where the fireplace is over 100 years old, I will eat there everytime. Have to say, I have only dined in the Tap Room, but the atmosphere down there is hard to beat. Good beer and wine selections as well as specialty martinis. Entrees are well portioned and flavorful. I have had the burger (tasty and juicy) and the short ribs. All were prepared perfectly. Try the mashed taters as they fill your belly with glee. Desserts are very good as well. Today was a great day because it started out with a wonderful, delicious, charming brunch at the Iron Forge Inn! We are from Bergen County, NJ and the ride up there was scenic as usual and where the inn is , felt like we were in a movie set shooting a story set in New England for sure...we ate in the sun porch area . I had the corned beef hash and eggs and my husband had the spinach frittata with the locally made delicious breakfast sausages.All was fresh and great! Friendly service. So bad its hard to describe. There must be a new "chef" in the kitchen. We went to the Tap Room for dinner and order the following ifems: DEVILED EGGS: dry and tastless... unless you count the pound of paprika on top OLIVES: They tasted like they had some kind of weird automotive oil on them. 2 MEDIUM BURGERS: Both were completely Raw inside SALAD WITH SCALLOPS: 2 scallops cut in half to appear as 4... the salad was tasteless and the scallops were overdone. CHARDONNAY: awful PINOT NIOR: awful.... could not even drink it The only saving grace were the MASHED POTATOES and the SERVICE. We will NOT be going back read more

I took a few meals to go for my family so I could use a gift card that I received. The food was just terrible. I understand that times are tough, but if you are advertising $30 meals, that's what I expect, not two small pieces of tough London broil that was advertised as NY Strip. We also ordered the smoked bacon and goat cheese dip which came with came with a few measly slices. This certainly was not worth $8. I'm not sure how a full dine in meal compares to take out here, but if you can't live up to the price and quality, do not take advantage of the customer by charging them top dollar for low quality food. My father even called the restaurant to tell them he was not satisfied and the woman admitted that they had to change their preparation methods, due to carry out only. Such a terrible experience. We have eaten here on multiple occasions and have never been disappointed. We were a party of 7 and everyone was pleased with their meal. Our waiter Doug was attentive and helpful with recommendations. Atmosphere is unique. We have also eaten in their Tap Room. Great food. I have to say I haven't been here in awhile. We would sometimes go to the Iron Forge (upstairs) but we always just loved sitting in the Tap Room (basement) it's rustic, cozy, very casual and on a freezing cold day the fireplace cranks. Okay so we visit on restaurant week we had the white bean soup ( it was cold) sorry it's 15° outside I need hot soup. So now we move on to my entrée/pork loin with polenta 50% of my Pork was solid fat with absolutely NO flavor. Polenta was adequate. Portions are child size and I have to say my dish once again wasn't hot when served (????) sorry I just don't get it. Dessert was vanilla ice cream with apples and candied ginger (NO COFFEE OR TEA OFFERED) needless to say the apples...yuck just not good. All this for $30.00!!! Geez I hate to see what we would have paid if it weren't restaurant week. So here is my advice....just order a burger and sit by the fire otherwise....there is a really good Italian place right in the village called Grappa Ristorante on railroad avenue. We had a beautiful and memorable garden themed wedding at the Iron Forge Inn. From the lush grounds and floral decorations to the incredible service, food and drink, they exceeded our expectations in every way imaginable. We'll never forget how cool, calm and collected the staff was when a crazy burst of wind and rain hit right as we were about to start the ceremony. They made super quick and seamless adjustments and never showed an ounce of stress at managing the change of plans. Incredible. We are so thankful to them for making the magic happen regardless of inclement weather. We truly don't have the words to express how meaningful that was for us. I also have to shout out Erik's incredibly delicious food, and Kaitlyn's expertise at managing and directing our wedding. I got super lucky working with Kaitlyn (!) who also happens to be a florist. She is so professional and detail-oriented, thorough from beginning to end. I am so thankful to have had her by my side through every step of the planning process. Iron Forge Inn - a beautiful and absolutely exquisite restaurant that is a gem nestled in Warwick. It is something out of a painting, but once you step within its historic walls, you instantly feel at home at this warm and inviting restaurant. The staff are so kind and friendly, they go above and beyond to provide a memorable experience that leaves a lasting impression. And this coupled with the elegant food is just wonderful. The executive chef Erik Johansen is amazing - being able to achieve the ultimate comfort food with such finesse and detailed nuance. He truly shows creativity with his farm to table menus, and really lets each season sing on the beautiful plates he presents. I am extremely picky and this is my second five star review this weekend. Blackened catfish, creamed spinach, beet salad, and the banana bread pudding were all outstanding. Clams and scallop appetizer were also very good. Rustic, old country atmosphere with a 250 yr old fireplace. Drinks and wine excellent. Service was very friendly with a local, you are at home or at a relatives country house feel. Fairly priced and very fresh, high quality ingredients. Great job Iron Forge Inn. My wife and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the Inn - we made a 7:30pm reservation at which the reservation taker said I have a table for two in the dinning room by the fireplace ( which would apply to the other three tables in that room) - I thought great - would make it cozy with a fire going - we arrived on time and were seated at one of the four tables in the room by the fireplace with 3 tea light candles going... The dinner started with plates set for two -then our waitress brought out 2 entree sized plates with the "Amuse Bouche" lost in the center of the plate - don't really understand the thought process behind this - bitter - burnt with smooth goat cheese & herb sticking out of the top - 4 plates to serve a tablespoon of an hors d'oeuvre...really - not impressed - I read a lot of reviews about the charming Inn - we happen to live in a house from the same time period - mismatched dinnerware and worn out carpet do not equal charm! Friendly waitress - placed our order for a starter of Ragout of Roasted Tomatoes & Mushrooms - ($12) waitress asked if we'd like a second dish to split the starter - yes, we would - the 2nd bowl was twice the size of the starter - the portion was so small - I used my bread plate - speaking of which - two at a table - one roll each - they could have been warmed a bit - tasted like they were right out of a plastic bag. After we placed our order for our entrees (surf & turf - my wife had - portobella mushroom "en croute") we waited, and waited and waited -the waitress reminded that us that cooking the mushroom takes time(?) she then offered us a choice of salads on the house...you can see where this is going? The entree ticket time was about 1 hour twenty minutes - the foods has to be good? Finally the entrees - waitress said the taste of the food would be worth the wait - surf & turf - quarter sized hanger steak topped with the same sized scallop - amazing - how did they manage to pair the two so perfectly? I was literally thinking - this is a joke right - $32.00 - where's the hidden camera? The joke was on me - it was a joke, bland and bland with a orange bland sauce - my wife's mushroom covered with pastry dough - was average at best - when the waitress asked if everything was good - I commented probably would have been better if we weren't hungry - she apologized & took the drink prices off our tab - where's chef Ramsey when you need him - I was still hungry when we left almost $100 lighter! Last night we had our wedding at the Iron Forge Inn. We wanted to write this review immediately because we were so impressed by the ambiance, the food, and the service provided by Erik and his staff. To being with, working with this group was as easy and pleasant as any experience we have ever had, having planned and executed many a large party. Erik was responsive and thoughtful at every turn. Our food needs were not easy but Erik managed to accommodate vegan, gluten free, dairy- free, and kosher guests. The food was locally sourced and was raved about by all guests- from our foodie pals to our picky teenage cousins. The first course, a salad of mixed local greens, roasted asparagus, and toasted almonds with a carrot and thyme vinaigrette was fresh, crisp and delicious. The main course, served family style at our request, allowed each guest to pick and choose and eat as much of each item as they desired. The gnocchi with local mushrooms and spring vegetables was a work of art. Many thanks to the local forager who literally invaded a rattlesnake den in the process of finding the chicken of the woods mushrooms. A warm bean & herb salad, ratatouille and brained greens were each delectable in their own right and the roasted salmon. The atmosphere was Hudson Valley Highlands at its finest. Fortunately, the rain was fairly limited and Erik had helped us arrange for a tent covering the outdoor patio. With the Rhododendron in bloom and the fresh air, the atmosphere was just extraordinary. The staff set up everything for the ceremony and for the post ceremony cocktails, all held out of the patio. The dinner inside was efficient and well executed. Guests that had to leave early were given food to go - in some cases full dinner and dessert which consisted of local pies (not enough room to describe the local pies - but wow!) and Bellvale ice cream. We had multiple guests from Manhattan and well as people from all over the country- the reaction to the facilities, the staff and food was uniformly exceptional. This is was not the first time we came to eat at the Iron Forge and we will certainly be back whenever we are in the area. read more

Service was "top notch", food was "bad crotch"... if you go to the tap room, order a burger and fries... can't screw that up I suppose, and nice ambiance to boot. Went during restaurant week and ordered beef ragout (almost as good as Alpo Dog food, just too dry) and my wife got the pork loin and polenta (76.23% fat with meat having no flavor whatsoever). Polenta was polenta. Plain & simple). Suffice it to say that the Ragout was hardly touched (woof woof) and the pork filled a few cavities)... Wine was good... needed it to get buzzed into thinking I had a good meal. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the food was not hot, but rather warm (probably not hot enough to pass a health dept exam). I fell in love with this place all over again Saturday night. It was wonderful! I had the Caesar salad, and skate dish, which was different and well prepared. The wine by the glass is a steal, and generously poured. We love the atmosphere, nothing beats it for romance. Beyond 5 stars! One year ago, we had our Rehearsal Dinner at Iron Forge and it was magical. For our one year anniversary weekend, dining at Iron Forge was a no-brainer! We enjoyed a 7 course meal spanning almost 3 hours at Iron Forge and it was nothing short of heavenly. Usually, during a tasting menu, we might like 1-3 courses, but we absolutely loved each course and for that many courses, we finished almost each and every one. The staff is so lovely at Iron Forge and welcomed us with hugs and anniversary wishes. They really care about their patrons. Don't hesitate to reserve dinner here, if you want a beautiful meal in a beautiful atmosphere, this is the place! Take your pick; rustic or upscale. We often choose rustic, downstairs in the Tap Room by the fire where either a casual or full menu is available. Delicious beers on tap, locally sourced produced, delicious beet salad, mushroom soup, burgers, beef shoulder, homemade pasta all served in a super cozy atmosphere with fireplace downstairs or a more upscale romantic setting upstairs. Staff and owners are super friendly, prices totally fair and the surroundings are absolutely gorgeous, especially in Autumn when the leaves are changing. You can take the back roads from here directly to Bellvale Creamery where if you get lucky and there's no line, you can grab a couple of delicious artisanal ice cream cones before heading home. read more

We stumbled onto Iron Forge Inn and loved the food, and the atmosphere. Not only do we love eating at the restaurant whenever we are in Warwick, we also had our rehearsal dinner outside on the back patio and had Erik, the owner and head chef, cater our wedding offsite this past September. The food was a hit at both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding and working with Erik was easy and hassle free - which is a bride's dream! If you are in the area you should definitely make a stop at Iron Forge for excellent farm to table food or think of them for your most special celebrations. read more

From the way the menu was written, my husband and I could not wait to taste our food. We were still waiting to taste some sort of flavor when the food came- it was so bland. My pasta with was so bland that I put the butter from the rolls and a ton of salt on it to even slightly wake up my taste buds. The pasta was all stuck together and so thick it was like eating raw dough. My husband had some pork dish and was not impressed. The only good thing was that we didn't waste money upstairs where the "fine dining" menu was slightly more expensive. Quaint country inn set in warwick ny, hudson valley. Family owned and operated, with friendly,professional,attentive staff. My fiancé and I were seated in a small yet romantic room which held four other tables which made for a quiet,pleasant dining experience since there was only one other table seated during our meal. Now for our meals. The dishes were served in a very timely manner, and were plated very elegantly. We never felt rushed to finish our serving before the next arrived. My scallop and pork belly appetizer was delicious with flavor profiles that are not frequently found in this area. My roasted duck breast came with a char on the skin that I wasn't aware would be prepared as so or to my liking ( personal preference ) The accompanying roasted baby root vegetables,and the almond milk, fois gras sauce were very good* my fiancé had a very delicious tomato and mushroom ragout with truffle custard and Parmesan crisp, again flo or profiles not found in this local area. She also enjoyed her surf and turf*entree,reserving comment on the (turf) the hanger steak was a little tough, however the chef did recommend medium rare,she prefers medium Our desserts were excellent,Banana bread pudding for me,and the chocolate plate for her. We both had a little trouble with ( chasing ) our desserts around the too large plates. The stars on the food descriptions dictate that I understand the various diets of today's society,and the difficulties a chef faces to please patrons I felt the chef was light handed using salt during preparing the dishes for my liking, nothing a little shake at the table didn't fix. The Iron Forge is possibly my fave restaurant in the Warwick Valley area. The cuisine is creative and intelligent and perfectly in season. The service has always been fine and the bar does well too. Went here during a weekend at the winery in Warwick. Being used to amazing food close to home makes me a little bit picky while trying new places on vacation but i am well aware sometimes you have to be happy with the simple because not everywhere is NYC. That being said - we had an amazing dinner here. Cipriani it is not BUT it is quaint and charming and my oh my it was impressive. Go for the tasting - you will not regret it. We even did the wine pairing because we know how to roll. GENEROUS pours for every course (we know how that can be right people?). Every single dish was amazing. This is place is phenomenal. I can't understand why it only have 3.5 stars. The atmosphere, in the tap room or upstairs, is pleasant. The tap room is cozy, especially in the winter with the fire going. The food is excellent - creative, interesting fresh and well-prepared. The Chef, his name is Erik, is friendly and and accommodating - I have Celiac and thus my food must be gluten free and have never had an issue getting sick there, and they are knowledgable and attentive about my gf needs! The only thing that could be better is having a better selection of wines by the glass, but they do have a great wine list in general. All in all, love this place! read more
