I joined Iron Bound last year in March after moving here from Chicago. Needless to say, I have not been disappointed. This gym is geared more towards people searching for an active lifestyle (or bodybuilders) rather than those looking for a training environment. With that being said, they do have a little crossfit area that is perfect for those looking for more of a training environment. The back area has a crossfit rig, bumper plates, bands, rings, assault bike, skierg, assault treadmill, and it has a white board filled with WOD's. There is an additional fee for the training area but it is well worth it for those looking to practice their olympic lifts or pr on deadlifts/squats. They have a smoothie bar with multiple options and they have a little retail store with snacks and clothing for purchase as well. In regards to covid, they have installed these antimicrobial protectors on all their commonly used surfaces (benches in locker room and door handles), which I am a fan of. Most gyms do not have this and I appreciate the extra care they put into protecting the guests during covid. In addition, the female locker room has a "take one leave one" book exchange in it! I love how this gym is more than a gym- it really is a family. To sum this up, I am a huge fan of this gym and wish I lived closer, I recently moved to Norfolk. This gym is awesome. I give it 5 stars because they've got a clean gym with plenty of iron, bars and equipment to get your work in, a reasonable drop in fee and...wait for it- CLEAN WORKING SHOWERS!!! The space small but they've used it masterfully. Honestly if you can't get a good workout here you just don't know what you're doing‍. Staff was friendly, parking was plentiful and it's open early which was perfect for me. They've got lockers and locks available for loan. Seriously everything is here in a space the size of a Wawa. I have done a test week this past week to try this gym out and I am definitely getting a membership. The staff is so nice and they remember you and get to know the people that come in. I haven't felt judged (I'm not a tiny size 2 person) but they have been so encouraging. The equipment is clean and maintained well. Can't say enough good things. read more

My parents live in Williamsburg so I consistently drop in to this gym. Plenty of machines, racks and weights. Lots of treadmills and elliptical as well. I have never been when there are not a lot of people in there but never have to wait too long for a spot. I went this past Sunday, worked out fasted and on the last exercise last set on the leg press damn near collapsed (That feeling like your gonna poop and vomit at the same time) stumbled to the bathroom where management happened to be doing some routine cleaning, they could tell I wasn't right and asked if they could help, brought me a Gatorade free of charge and sat with me until I could see straight. This is a small, family-owned gym which is run with great care and integrity. I did a 7 day trial and really liked it. Everyone was friendly but gives you your space. The trainers don't hound you like fresh meat like at some gyms. Classes like yoga, spin and stretching were good (those were the 3 I tried). They give you a nice overview of the place and the owner guy is real good. We have visited IBG twice now and we love it! For the lifters in the area this is a great gym! They have lots of free weights, barbells, a few squat cages, deadlift "pad", and many other necessities! For those who enjoy cardio there's a good selection of equipment! For those who enjoy kettlebells, Pilates, stretching and more it's all there for you too! Even a reformer in the open area for use! It's never been so crowded we had to wait long for equipment either. It's also very awesome seeing the "older" crowd come in and get their lift on! It reminds us of an "old school" meets "new school" gym! It's our go-to when we vacation down in Williamsburg! Great job IBG! read more

Started going to IBG last year, and loved my time there. Spacious gym, but not too big, nice community feel. Good selection of equipment, especially in the weightlifting area. There are multiple bench presses, two squat racks, and two deadlift platforms. Was always easy to get my workout done in the AM. The only thing I always wanted was a better area to hip thrust, or a hip thrust specific bench in a corner of the weightlifting area. Only leaving the gym because I need something closer to my house. I reached out to Scott when I was planning on moving to the area and I absolutely love him and his staff. From day one they have made me feel at home and have always gone out of their way to make sure that I know where the equipment is and have enough Room and feel comfortable. I train here regularly and I make sure to always say hello to the workers because they seriously make this gym an amazing place. I pay extra for the functional fitness Room and will continue to do so even after my initial 3 months because it is totally worth it. Even during peak times the gym is perfectly laid out so that I always have Room and never feel like I'm crowded or walking over other people in order to train. I worked-out at the Iron Bound Gym about a decade and a half ago when it was located in another location, and when I recently came back to Williamsburg, I found that it moved to the new location and yesterday I went to have a look. Well... this location is fantastic!! The gym is very, very clean, and the equipment is very new and there is a great variety of weight machines and free weights available for serious body builders or others who want to tone-up. There are also treadmills, exercise bikes of different types, step machines, etc. available. There are also yoga and other classes. And, the locker room was also very clean. The gym is open and very inviting. And, atmosphere is very positive. The management is also very positive and a pleasure to work with. And, I thought that the membership fees are very reasonable considering what the facility offers. I love my Gym! I love my Gym! Luckily we are not inundated with McGyms in Williamsburg (for example, 24 Fitness or Golds) and only have smaller fitness studios or the local Rec Center. Iron Bound is great with people there to seriously to work out and not hog the cardio equipment while they talk on their cell phones. The equipment is top notch and well maintained. It gets busy sometimes but in almost two years I have never had to wait for someone to finish to use a piece of equipment. One unique point -- the classes are free. Spin Classes, Zumba, Yoga -- all included. Prospective members can get a free week trial. I did for one day and joined. That was 35 lbs ago. read more

I am from DC and own a timeshare in Williamsburg. About 4 years ago I found Ironbound gym nestled in the new section of Williamsburg called New Town. What a wonderful gym! I travel a bit and this is my favorite gym. Why? Because it starts with the owner, Scott. He is such a nice man. He does everything around the gym and takes such pride in it! The equipment is a nice combination of the old and the new. And it is extremely clean! There are spray bottles with towels at almost every station. The members also take pride in the gym and are very welcoming. Those of you who are on vacation like me and are I search of more of a challenge than what your resort provides I encourage you to try Ironbound. A 5-day pass is quite reasonable and unused days can be used at a later date. I get my gym fix every morning and it is always a great start to my day! read more

Great, great gym. Scott knows everyone's name, and it really feels like a community visits and trains there. The equipment is great, from cardio to free weights to machines. Serious lifters will be happy to see two power racks, three benches, and a good number of strong lifters are regulars. This place is pretty solid and exceptionally clean, which I respect a lot. Friendly staff, nice variety of cardio equipment and weights, although *I'd love some 17.5 lb. dumbbells.* The only thing that isn't ideal for me is that it is small, which doesn't give much privacy when working out when the gym is crowded. I am one of those big city types that prefers a little more anonimity and less community in my workout, as it is a time to decompress and get centered. My nephews and I have enjoyed this gym while on vacation at the Powhatan Resort several times over the years, including this year. We all agree that it is an excellent location, with a dizzying selection of free weights, weight machines, cardio equipment, and specialized workout areas from spinning to yoga. The locker rooms and showers are convenient and well kept. The staff is always available, friendly, and knowledgeable about all aspects of fitness. And they make a mean smoothie - from the lower calorie to muscle building to maximum gain categories. Be careful when you cancel! This gym has been charging us for a membership for quite a while. My husband did send a letter of cancellation to the gym, but the owner said that you need to send the letter to a different address than what is advertised on the website. I looked online, and there is no reference to help members with their complicated cancellation process (definitely no mention of this mystery address). When I brought this to their attention, they only agreed to repay one month of what had been a very long time. They also said that someone had been using our gym cards. Yeah no, obviously they know the ins and outs of a scam. Be careful! They give gyms everywhere a bad name. read more

I've been working out and have been a member of various gyms for the past 30 years; that includes the 'mega-gyms' like Golds, etc. I've found that I like Ironbound Gym better than any. It has a small gym, friendly atmosphere - but provides every possible accomodation for serious fitness, weight-lifting/bodybuilding, cardio, classes, etc.; well diversified. The gym is allways kept immaculate and is well managed. The price is right as well, considering everything that comes with the membership. Never feels overly crowded since there is plenty of square footage for everyone. read more
