There was about an 8-month period where I couldn't attend (due to "life,"), so for 8 months I paid the monthly fee thinking I'd start up again at some point and 8 months I paid them and didn't use anything I was paying for. After about 8 months I decided that at that time, I probably wasn't going to go back for a while. I was out of town on a trip when I called to cancel, and they would not cancel my membership over the phone. It was a lengthy trip, so I got charged an additional 2 months for a membership simply because I was in a completely different state and they would not cancel my membership over the phone or even just send me an email cancellation option. You'd think, since we are almost in 2020, that they could figure out a way to accommodate people who need to cancel via phone or email. No. I had to wait until I returned and could physically go in to cancel - absolutely ridiculous, and I was charged for an additional 3 months because of that. It has been almost a year, and this still makes me upset. I will never go back to this studio due to what I feel was extremely poor customer service. I understand they have this noted on their webpage -- you'd better make sure you read everything before you sign up with them, is all I can say. Personally, I find it ridiculous and I'll find another yoga studio. Other than this issue, I actually enjoyed this studio and I would have highly recommended them to anyone. But after that -- I'm sorry, but I don't understand why someone can not cancel over the phone or via email. It's a bit ridiculous to require someone to personally go in and cancel, especially if they are in a completely different state. What would have happened if I had moved and forgotten to cancel? Would they just keep charging me and I would have to purchase a plane ticket solely to come and cancel my membership in person? It's almost 2020, people -- time to get into the digital age.

Luckily, my favorite studio never missed a beat and while they closed the studio doors they blew the virtual possibilities wide open. Now I can just sign up for classes and enjoy them LIVE on line. LIVE is so much better and motivating. Community is important! I'm getting to try instructors I never had class with before due to my own hectic life. Added bonus: no extra fees for my cats to join in on class! No judgement as per usual as a novice I am inspired to see my yoga mates doing it their way during class. Grateful to still have yoga even though so much else is upside down.

TLDR--I have taken great classes and am sure this is a great spot for some people, but I would not…read morerecommend it to my poc friends. I relocated here from another city, where I took lessons in classic pilates, and was originally suspicious of the painfully curated Instagram aesthetic of this place that makes it feel more like late capitalism hot girl scam than actual serious pilates (which would more successfully turn you into the scam lol), but had a really wonderful time in a series of group classes this past summer with an instructor whom I believe only works there over the summer. With that being said, after a while of life just being busy / getting in the way, I wanted to restart with classes here. . .and oh boy was that a learning experience. This studio offers 0 flexibility and grace for life stuff that happens --such as missing a class (which happened once, that I just sucked up) or arriving more than 5 minutes late ( I was 10-15 min late), which happened today and I am like :o wtf at. The front desk was polite and apologetic--I understand they just have to follow the rules. The studio's overall mode of reasoning and their delivery is-white woman. If you are a poc you understand exactly what I'm talking about. First off, this space is is incredibly white--I've never felt fully comfortable here but there's limited options around here and I'm just trying to exercise rather than feel fully safe in a place (a fantasy!). I said it was feeling racist and she said she can't help the way she looks (which is true) but girlllllll I also can't help the way I look--and I would totally choose to look more like her if it meant I'd potentially get offered to take the other class that was starting at the time I arrived [broken heart emoji] Anyway, she kept iterating that this was policy that they had to follow (lmao the policy you have in minuscule fine print somewhere pages in? Put it in font 20 on your website front page and I won't say a word). The other reason she gave is that it's for your own safety, that if you come after stretching it's dangerous if you go straight into exercise (which means if you exercise and hurt yourself we don't want liability). This was infuriating because 1) the instructors (other than the one I had this summer) do not actually correct alignment / posture and just go through the motions of the movements while looking aesthetic in a matching exercise outfit, so I'm not sure if there is any actual safety to begin with and 2) Would they have been more accommodating if I looked more like them and / or the Daughters of the Confederacy? Very uncertain! This person I was speaking to was definitely uncomfortable / not sure how to deal with me, but then, while she was gone, I talked to the second front desk who had been staring at the convo the whole time and this is where it gets more fun. I asked if the person who owns the space is around and she said no (btw, am I becoming a speak to your manager kind of person? oh boy!) This person is like fully glaring at me, and I asked if she had context on my convo, and at first she goes I didn't hear it, but then when I explained the convo she said that the first person did nothing wrong and was very nice and mannered while talking to me (which she absolutely was) and that this was policy. I explained that just because tone and manner is nice doesn't mean that the actual intent / words are kind, and said that based on this racist vibe I'm getting, I feel like I probably shouldn't come back here, and then she goes: "Good!" LOOOOOL. Ok. Good! I was definitely angry about my experience this morning but am in the process of letting it go as paying a price for a lesson learned.

Beautiful space, lots of class options and times, instructors are awesome! Parking is easy.read more

After just a few months I have seen results in terms of my flexibility, control and strength that I have not seen with any of my other training. I am now able to do things I couldn't even dream of doing even as a teen. The studio is super cute too! With a Moss green wall and a purple velvet couch in the waiting room and a great choice of equipment (reformers, cadillac, barrels, low and high chairs, foot correctors... you name it). She worked with me slowly at first to figure out what muscles were tight or loose, how to balance the imbalances, and then helped me with my strength and flexibility. Great studio, great location, great instructor!…read more How did I find this place? Funnily enough... Yelp. I don't live locally but visit family frequently enough to want a go-to studio in Virginia Beach. I found 3 on yelp - none of which had any reviews. Chose Pilates Fitness Club solely based on the website: it was really easy to find the schedule and the class options are super convenient. Plus a prominently featured intro deal for new clients: 5 classes for $25. Worth it? Yes. I haven't tried the other studio to compare, but I'm fairly positive I made the right choice. Not intimidating at all (the other studio pretty much required you to call in advance if you were a brand new student) and awesome instructor (Chris) - whether there are 2 students or 12, he really focuses on making sure you're doing the movements correctly and makes the 50 minutes of class fly by. Proximity to the oceanfront is an added bonus.

The instructors were very good and took you through the movements and made the appropriate adjustments. They made the class fun and approachable even for beginners like me. They had a $25 for 5 classes for first time customers deal so you really don't have an excuse not to give them a try. Be warn though because you'll likely come back often. The classes are generally scheduled every hour and can be easily booked through the website. On the last day, I brought my 60 year old mother to class and Christopher took his time to work with her on the various Pilates positions. She has not even heard of Pilates and she had a great workout. This is on my to go list when I am in the area.
