For a while I thought Irish cuisine consisted of Guinness, Soda Bread, Corned Beef, Irish Coffee. Then I learned Sheppards Pie, Black/White Pudding were also Irish and delicious. Having been to Ireland back when I was drinking was a real treat to drink and be drunk under the table by the lads out there, but my favorite dishes initially were the Full Breakfasts, too bad you can't eat them all the time. My drunk food of choice is the Spice Bag's. Who knew Chinese take outs served at this point a national dish (I also love Irn Bru and have had it shipped to California during COVID). I've been searching for a Spice bag this side of the pond for years and this is one of the closest I've found. It's truely not chinese becuase I've asked restaurants owners to recreate it and they can't. It's Irish and Chinese and it comes from a place and time where immigrants assimilate differently becuase of the ingredients they have available to them. Over time it becomes their own. I was in town for business that week and wanting only the Spice bag I almost overlooked their other dishes which looked fantastic. I ended up loving much more of the menu. Narrangansett is fried calamari. Nice bite, not too much chew, great breading. I'd have liked an aoili, but the lemon makes it pop. Perhpas some parsley for garnish. I get it, that's not how it's served back home, but lets be honest the menu has French, English, Irish and American cuisine, so it's hard to be authentic to everything. Wedge salad's add grilled shrimp give that toothsome bite to go with the crunch and textures. I almost always get this when i'm doing a business lunch. Feels classier than ceasers, gardens, house. Blue cheese is for ballers. I would rather have had pickled eggs than deviled eggs considering it's a pub. The Reuben's pastrami was bland, but everything else was perfect, including the coated fries. I normally don't add salt, but this needed it. I loved the parsnips with the corned beef and cabbage. Filling and homestyle. The parsley cream sauce was a nice touch, but I'd rather have horseradish. The sheppards pie was delicious, hearty, had depth. the salamander/torching of the top is a really nice touch and presentation. The stars of the show are the irish breakfast, it's hard to find puddings let alone both white and black. Irish rasher make it ultra authetic. I prefer fry bread, but the fries are a nice touch versus hashbrowns that most places serve. It's got everything and everything works perfect in combination. I had this twice that week. The spice bag the real reason I was here. Usually i'm used to my bags being near see thru from the grease, but the fancier presentation did not take away from the taste. Everything is seasoned, crunchy, the onions are both crunchy and soft, the chicken was a tad on the dry side, but the best part was adding shrimp. I'd never had it that way in Ireland and to me the bite of the shrimp really complimented the fries and the chicken and actually took to the seasonings best. Eating it sit down was a little weird, but I was here for the food, not the ambiance of walking home drunk after the pub eating on my feet part. Service is better than most pubs and they really care about their menu. Prices are reasonable for DC and portions are large, so you're not left ordering 5 items to fill up. Decor is pretty traditional and on the older side. Bathrooms are on the nicer side. The crowd is a great mix of locals, office workers, sports fans, drinkers. Fantasically devoid of college kids. Gone are the days of me splitting the G, but they do a proper pint. I also came her for their Smithwicks. Yes you can order a "Drop shot" formerly known as a Car Bomb, just don't call it that. Most places are very understanding that it's a good drink and if you like it, then order it, but don't use the slang name for it that is divisive. Order a Drop Shot. Their Irish Coffee could use some work considering they do so many other things really well. The coffee is supposed to be hot and the whipped cream supposed to be fresh. Simple syrup is ok, but the sugar cube is preferred. read more

Lots of Buffalo fans in the place that evening Hard to give this a fair review since it was so crowded and all we did was have two rounds of beers. Definitely would go back again. LOVE this pub restaurant! Every time we come to DC for an event at the convention center, we never leave without coming here to share a few pints and appetizers before hitting the road. I always get shepherd's pie, and it's the perfect portion. Filling and served piping hot. Please excuse the low lighting in my photos -- I promise it's really cozy and clean inside. The serves are really nice, and we've never had a problem with our orders. FYI There's some street parking, but it's not guaranteed. There are a few garages and hotels around though if you're in a pinch. read more

The last time I was here was mid November and I stopped in for a couple beers and lunch. My husband and I split a reuben with fries. I had been here a few times before as it is a big pre-game bar for the Washington Capitals. When we were in last, the bartender, although extremely friendly, probably needed to brush up on her sanitation standards. Right in front of us she was chopping fruits for drinks. Numerous times she took a break to blow her nose, cough and or sneeze and wasn't washing her hands before resuming cutting fruit. My husband and I kept looking at each other like WTF. Rating Context: For all my foodies- don't come here for food. Come here for late nights, chill vibe, chill servers, and live music. The food is a throw on. But as a foodie, it's so heavily weighs in on a review!! It was actually not too difficult to find street parking on a Friday night nearby. Our rather sizable group of 7 came in and were seated right away. Colby was playing live and he was very good!! We loved his song selection and he wasn't too loud. He did great covers and we just really enjoyed the time together. I love that our server knew he took his craft seriously. She shared her recs and was just very chill. We decided we wanted something from one of the Irish Pubs we saw around Washington, DC. I really wanted a Smithwick's draft and everything else would be a bonus. We decided Irish Channel was the closest and had decent reviews so we stopped in and ordered a couple of beers and a Reuben sandwich. Overall, it was a decent sandwich, not bad but nothing to write home about. The service was okay, but it felt like we were a burden until it came time for our check, then it was cheerful and helpful. If you're staying in the attached hotel, it would be a good option for a quick meal and a beer. If you want something similar to what you had when you visited Ireland, keep looking. It's an Irish Pub in name only. For a neighborhood bar it's great I would be here at least once a week if I lived in the area. But adding one Guinness option, Smithwick's and a couple of dishes does not make it what I thought it would be, which is on me and that's okay. read more

I work less than a block away from the Irish Channel and had been there only once before COVID. When we had tickets to see a hockey game at Capital One Arena and were looking for a place to eat, I suggested Irish Channel. I'm so glad I did because it was wonderful! We were greeted warmly and even though we were just two people we were given a large open table right by the door. Service was excellent and our server was very sweet and helpful. It was happy hour so I got an "Irish" mule. It was refreshing and delicious. My husband also got a mule but immediately spilled it. No worries, they cleaned it up and swiftly brought him another. For dinner, I got the Irish nachos, which was a bowl of layered deliciousness, starting with diced potatoes, ground beef, and cheese. Oh yum, very flavorful and lucious! My husband got the Spice Bag, a paper bag filled with potatoes, chicken, onions, and spice. It was a lot so I helped him finish it. We also got a happy hour mozzarella sticks. I got a second mule and for a reasonable price, we had a wonderful meal. Irish Channel is definitely going into my favorites! read more

I came here with a group of co workers. The food was pretty good. I had the fish and chips which was fresh and a decent portion of fish. The inside is older for sure and even though it's an older bar, it could use a new touch to it. The Sheppards pie was a favorite for the tap and the portion was huge. The food, however, was expensive and disappointing: salty onion soup, oily mozzarella sticks, mediocre meatballs, and chicken tenders that were likely manufactured and flash frozen. We were in DC for a hockey game and we wanted a special place filled with excitement to get our energy going for the game. An Irish pub ... perfect! Close to Capital One and the hotel ... check. So, we chose the Irish Channel. It's always weird to attempt to explain that some things were so right but other elements fell flat. But, if you notice the review is four stars and that's the good news. So, first the bad ... there was absolutely NO ENERGY in the pub. None ... you could almost hear a pin drop and this was the "dinner" hour immediately before a hockey game and the pub was filled with folks wearing Washington's red jerseys. So, my only critique of the pub's management ... put on some music and create some energy. Perhaps this was an anomaly but my brother and I were in GAME MOOD so even while definitely noting the lack of energy we went on with our meal. I should note that this is NOT FINE DINING but very few folks reading a review about an Irish Pub are seeking perfected table cloths with those oddly starched napkins creased in ways that napkins should never have to be folded because they are after all napkins. The decor and set up might match a pub from the streets of Dublin or Killarney. We didn't have table service but the bartender was SUPERB! As I scanned the brews that are available my mind blurred perhaps more a result of having been on the road for a couple of hours and the quiet of the pub but he looked at me and asked ... "What do you like?" Thankfully, my mind was clear enough to describe my FAV kind of IPA and he smiled saying "I have the perfect choice for you." And, he did ... made me happy from the first sip to the last drop! The menu is "typical" but we each had something in mind. My brother went for the FISH & CHIPS (As Buffalonians, our definition of a fish fry or fish and chips always includes haddock but even when you wear Buffalo sports' gear you can't expect haddock.) and I chose the Guinness Stew. Although our bar keep disappeared after providing that superb IPA for me the service never lessened. Each staff person we interacted with was conversational, upbeat, and ready to answer our questions. I guess I have been missing Guinness Stew because I smiled as my meal was placed before me and yes, it tasted so good. Melt away beef and a tasty rich broth. My brother was very happy with the fish and chips. So, THE BOYS who each had drive hundreds of mile for a hockey game left the pub full and ready for the game knowing that in the arena we'd be loud even if the Washington fans consider quiet the way to prepare for their team's games. read more

We came to watch the first Jets game of the season, and we loved the energy of all the fans at the bar! The place was packed and people were having a good time (well, at least for the first few minutes of the game)! We were able to snag a table and order some beers, tenders, and mozz sticks. The food is your regular bar food. The beers were nice and cold! We had a fun time hanging with the fans. The bar seating was comfy and the prices were really good for being right near the Captiol One Arena (still can't get used to saying that, RIP Verizon Center!) This bar is a great place to watch an NFL game, it is a Jets bar, but not the rowdy folks rather a fun group. The food was AMAZING! I had a delicious brunch chicken sandwich and some French toast and both were worth it! The mimosas were also very good and strong, just how I like it. Great service, it does get packed so you'll take a while to find a seat BUT I promise that you'll have a great time around true football fans. Also, if you didn't know, I'm a Giants fan and I came there in all blue for the Giants/Jets game but it was all love and fun. Highly recommend this sports bar. read more

This would be a "No" for me. Service: This was a Saturday night and it was nice crowd size already included. Was greeted when I came in and was told to choose my own seat. There was about a 10 minute wait before the waiter could show up because they were working several stations by their self. The waiter still provided great customer service and apologized for the wait. Food: NO....this was the worst food I've had since the first time I've tried to cook for myself. For an Irish Pub, I didn't think you could mess up Fish & Chips. Fish was hard and not eatable and the sweet potato fries were burnt. I was asked to have it re-made but I wasn't going to take that chance. My drink was just juice. There was absolutely NO alcohol in my drink (And this is coming from a non-drinker). Overall: Unfortunately, I can not recommend this place for food or drinks. If you want to just hangout or maybe a beer (I hope they can't mess up beer). read more

It was packed here on St. Patrick's Day (duh) but we were able to find a corner spot and ordered lunch from a floating waitress. My friend had the infamous corned beef and cabbage platter and I had the Ruben sandwich with fries. Pleasantly surprised that the food was very good. She loved the mound of a carrot-like salad on the corned beef platter (it looked like an orange potato salad-at first we thought that). It was so good that as we were leaving she asked for a side to bring home! And the waitress complied. The place was packed but the service was good. We really had no table to eat our lunch on but when the food did arrive, she had brought us a small black metal tv-tray-like table that accommodated us just fine. Ordered the spice bag to go in advanced over the phone. Had to wait some time before it was ready. The spice bag was good, but not as good as the other one I had. The fries were not very crispy, but still spiced well. There's also jalapeños, so watch out for that if you don't like spicy. I liked the curry sauce, it's similar to Japanese curry. The portion was definitely enough for one person, but it was on the smaller side. read more

What a wonderful surprise to find an Irish Pub attached to the Fairfield in Washington DC. We came for a few days of exploring the city and found the perfect place to chill, have a refreshing beverage and a great meal at the IRISH CHANNEL PUB. The staff is amazing. High praise for our new friend, Tyrone. He greeted us every day as if we were great friends and he made sure everything was to our liking. So nice to be treated so well. Everyone was friendly & accommodating. In true Irish pub style everyone in the bar was friendly and ready for conversations. We met some very interesting people. We tried several dishes and everything exceeded our expectations! Our stay was during the NHL playoffs so the place was pretty lively when the Capitals were playing! Fun!
