I used to go to Iris regularly because of the price, $40 for an hour massage it doesn't really get any better. At first I used to go to Phil, I like him, he's quite good but there's certain techniques of his that I'm not a fan of, so I started going to Jason. Jason was good as well, but he only worked once a week on Friday's. I couldn't always go on A Friday so I decided to try someone new. I tried Dulcia and I never went to anyone else after that. Dulcia is hands down one of the best, she's so good at what she does and she's super friendly. The other day I called in and was informed that Dulcia no longer works at Iris, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I was really sore so I decided to go in anyways. I went to a lady named Elsa, she was very nice at the beginning and quite talkative. I told her where I was sore and expected her to focus on that area, she didn't really focus on the area as much as I had hoped. I did walk out of there feeling a tad bit better, but I think I could've been a lot better had she listened and focused solely on that area. I started getting sleepy towards the end of the massage. I looked at the clock and there about was 20 minutes left. Five minutes went by, and I started passing out, I closed my eyes and then immediately opened them because I realized that Elsa's hand was not moving anymore. I looked up at her face and realized that she was passed out. I guess giving me a massage is really relaxing ‍. Anyways I didn't say anything at that moment I purposely moved around, so that she would wake up, that happened three to four times in the last 15 minutes. When there was about three minutes left, she told me that she worked really hard and that normally they don't have to do that much work, so I should give her a good tip. She asked me to tip her good twice! I thought that was very unprofessional and rude. Tip is for good service, the last time I checked, falling asleep while giving someone a massage is not good service. I told the receptionist what happened, but only because she asked how my massage was. The receptionist totally put me on the spot in front of my masseuse, she said "you think she fell asleep," right in front of Elsa, talk about unprofessional. I don't think I will go back to this location and I would especially not recommend Elsa to anyone. I only gave this place three stars because of the price and because of Dulcia. read more

I had a massage on 11-28-24, at the Newton Iris spa and the masseuse was Yumi, it was a 90 minute massage, 5 minutes into the massage she asked how much tips will you give me, I responded I will decide later, minutes later she asked again and again, she then said for $100.00 I will give you a hand job, I declined and she lowered the price to $50.00, I responded that I am not here for that reason, and she started playing with her cell and massage with one hand, after 35 minutes, I decided to stop and got dressed and asked for part of my money back, Yumi lied about the offer she made, was very rude and I got hardly any money back, worse massage I ever had, stay away from Iris spa in Newton, I will never go back. read more

So decided to suprise and pamper my wife for her birthday... shes a front line healthcare worker and saves lives daily. So I decide to send her here for a 90 min deep tissue massage. Well she got there they put the hot oil on her.... 4 minutes in and they say she feels way too hot and proceeded to take her temp with their scanner. She is a little warmer then normal(hot oil) they then proceed to treat her like she is a disgusting infected piece of garbage and end said treatment. By the time she was dressed and in lobby( arguing back and forth the entire time she was getting her clothes back on) they check her temperature again..... normal, so they let her sit in lobby waiting for your daughters treatment. Force her to have a foot rub while the girl acted like she is a leper and going to catch a 3rd world disease. Then inform her they dont except interace or credit card. And insist on e transfer and a large tip for them. While she was receiving said foot rub told maybe her temp was so high during deep tissue because shes chubby! So if you want to be insulted, body shamed, treated like you carry infectious disease then ladys and gentlemen look no further! Oh and forgot to mention they insisted she paid for the full 90 minute package. When I called to get a explanation on why my wife was treated so poorly they said "you call police you no likey" Smelled like mold and stale sheets. If I could give zero stars I would.. went in for a couples "reflexology foot massage" as indicated by my phone conversation. We walked in and were placed in opposite rooms in the spa. They told us to lay down... turns out they thought we meant "full body massage". Going with the flow it was no massage at all. My girlfriends masseuse was texting with her phone on loud, left the room MULTIPLE TIMES, and clearly had NO training what so ever on massaging. She is was dealing with customer payments and then would return to the room and continue massaging... no sanitization. No I wouldn't come back, first off the massage rooms were so dirty, I felt gross just being there. The headrest had a cover on it and the cover was disgusting and smelled terrible. I feel like it was never washed or changed. I asked for it to be changed and she told me it's clean. The bed itself was uncomfortable. Everything about the room was cheap, I couldn't relax properly because I felt so grossed out. Since they only accept cash and no card I only brought exactly what the lady over the phone told me to bring. As I don't carry cash. Once I paid she started asking for her tip I told her I don't have any more cash and who ever I talked to on the phone only told me fo bring a certain amount. So I left, as soon as I got to my car she came and knocked on my window for a tip again. At that point I was like WTF. This place is good for a cheap massage but really depends who you get. The place seems pretty clean. The rooms however can be noisy and you can hear a lot of what's happening outside if anything is going on. As for the massage most of the times is been good. I had one experience where they person did this weird wave motion with there palms and fingers a lot. I'm glad I haven't had them again. Most of the time though it's quite good and I keep going back so that says something. Also the masseuses can have varying degrees of English, some have been fine while others I haven't really been able to communicate preferences as all. The lady as the front desk can be a bit rude sometimes. They are also pretty inconsistent about what you wear during a massage. Sometimes the front desk lady sees you to a room and then tells you "undress but keep underwear on!" in stern voice. Other times they say take everything off. I even had the front desk lady tell me to leave them on and then the masseuse was working on me I had to remove them anyways. I have hip problems so I'm a bit sensitive to if they massage my hips\glutes or not. All massages have been very professional. Same with drapery, very inconsistent between the masseuses and not much influence from what the client wants. Sometimes almost completely covered and most of the massage through a sheet while others are minimal covering with mostly an oil massage. Anyways overall great price, a bit of a gamble of what massage you are going to get but 90% of them have been quite good. The noise in the rooms can be distracting. My boyfriend and I went for a couples massage and we were not too happy with our overall experience. First, we were there 10 mins earlier than our appointment, they had us waiting for 15 mins so they can get the room ready for us. Secondly, the lady that did my massage was very unprofessional and super quick. Yes, you cannot beat the price for what you get. All massage therapists are trained in Beijing. Some of the girls have no English; some have reasonable English. What they do not say is tipping is mandatory. They chase you out to the parking lot demanding a tip, and then tell you it's not enough. Worst day spa EVER! I went here for a birthday massage and it was just painful from beginning to end. The sheets smelled stale and were so thin, the bed was cheap and everything about this place was disgusting. The masseuse I had was an older woman who clearly had no friggin' idea how to properly massage. She was massaging my spine and it was painful. Her version of a swedish massage was to tap my spine and wiggle from one spot to another. It was very uncomfortable and unacceptable. I had to tell her to stop several times because it was hurting me, she still did not understand and kept doing her thing. I had to ask for another masseuse, and that one wasn't any better. The facial mask they put on you is like corn starch and water mixed together and caused an unpleasant tingling sensation which was painful. This place needs to be investigated or shut down. 8/10 --- for cleanliness and friendly welcome. 4/10 --- for the 1 hour massage, which I specially stated I wanted relaxation, but was more medium to hard pressure the entire time. In addition, the masseuse added hand-chops to my feet and back. Very uncomfortable and not relaxing at all. I felt more stressed after the massage. 2/10 --- for professionalism. The masseuse exited the room three times to get items, or talk with the receptionist in their native language. Very disruptive and irritating. 1/10 --- for available shower and change rooms. I think she does a great job for people who need extra pressure and I'd recommend her to anyone requiring deep tissue therapy. She did ask me to tell her if it was too hard, and I truly believe she was being as polite as she could. However, it was still too hard on my back. Also, I think the overall professionalism was lacking. I did not meet my masseuse face to face, until I was lying on the table face down. I think it's very important for masseuses to introduce themselves and explain what therapy they can offer, depending on your preference. Professionalism was poor with how the staff were dressed. I could hear my masseuse's shoes click and clack on the floor as she moved around the table. This entirely disrupted any sense of relaxation I could afford to get in that brief 60 minutes. I was hoping the massage would end quicker because I was so irritated and disappointed. As well, long finger nails scratching my head and grazing my back became quite uncomfortable. If the owner and staff would change and improve, I think they would keep more clientele to sustain their business. I have been to many massage parlors, and this is one of the biggest disappointments. My wife and I visited here for a couples massage and seeing an ad for a 90 minute massage for $57 dollars each. We were a little skeptical but decided to book anyways and we were glad we did. We arrived and was greeted in the reception. We were taken into the couples room. It was very small, The massage tables needed to be put on an angle so they could fit and I felt a bit sorry for the therapist having to work in there. However it was clean and I didn't have to work there so it was fine. We were left in the room without much instruction. We undressed and got under the sheets. A few minutes passed and our therapists arrived. My wife had a male therapist and she asked for a deep tissue massage, I had a female therapist and asked for a relaxation massage. My wife's therapist was quite good about asking her about the pressure and any sore areas. My therapist just went to work without any questions. She did use a amount of pressure I liked and gave a good massage. Overall the massage was very good, we've had a massages at high end places and this matched them. When our 90 minutes was up, the oil was removed with warm towels. My therapist told me I was done. My wife's therapist was still finishing up when my therapist snapped at him that they were done now. I found this a bit rude and wasn't the best way to finish. Overall we paid $120 (with tax) + tip for a 90 minute couples massage, the massage was great, the place was small but clean. Got a deep tissue massage and facial Groupon as a gift. Worst experience ever. Garbage bag at the door when I walked and a bucket of dirty water on the floor of the bathroom. The receptionist told me I would have to pay tax when I left I said no problem. When my facial was done she told me to take my time to get ready, halfway into putting my pants on the door flung open and two ladies walked in asking if I had paid yet and said the receptionist left and I couldn't leave until I paid. During my massage all I could hear was the ladies outside talking to each other loudly. The lady doing my facial put so much oil over my eyelids I had to stop at a fast food place on my way home to wash my face in the restroom because my eyes were burning and I couldn't drive. I came here because it was close by. I called and asked about their groupon promo, and if I were to just pay them directly if it was alright (since I know some places would honour the groupon price even if I don't purchase it. Since groupon takes a big percentage.) they said it would have to be $75 instead of $65. I realize it's just their "special package 1" on their website. So I said nvm and just went with package 3 (120mins massage + mini facial.) on the website it said $91, but they charge $95. I'm glad they told me before I made the appointment, so I still took it. I got there at 10am, and I was surprised they didn't need me to fill in anything. I guess they don't keep any customer records. I quickly learned that they were Chinese-owned, as I heard them speaking in Mandarin. Being a Cantonese speaker, it was quite easy to over hear their conversations, as well that I found it was easier to communicate with the therapist. Water is self-served in the corner of the lounge, the receptionist doesn't even ask. They don't have any other facilities, such as a shower, locker room, or sauna space. The massage I got was AMAZING! She had really strong hands, and I absolutely loved it! The facial though, was not the greatest. I can do a better job at home. All the other places I went would cover my eyes with some cotton or tissue, but she just cleansed my eyes too. I think some product got into my eyes, but luckily it didn't sting.
