Los Cantaros - Tacos de carnitas

I must say that Jorge makes some great margaritas that taste very well balanced. I usually try a different one every time and I've never been disappointed. Of course, they bring out complimentary chips and salsa which always hits the spot. Boyfriend likes to get a side of queso and some hot sauce too. I typically end up getting the street tacos here. The plate comes with five tortillas topped with your choice of two proteins and a side of both red and green salsa. It took me a little while to figure out the best combination of meat for the tacos. While the birria tastes solid, it causes the tortillas to fall apart easily, so if you want some of that I'd go for the quesabirria tacos. I was getting the carnitas for a while, but it wasn't always the most consistent as some days it didn't taste as good but other days it tasted fantastic. In my opinion, the go to meat combination for the street tacos is the pollo adobo and the al pastor, as they both have flavorful marinades and the meat itself tastes good as well. While I understand that New Hampshire isn't exactly known for having amazing Mexican food, I've found that this place is solid for the area. Fun atmosphere, nice people and generous portions of food that will fill you up.

I had the Pollo con mole which actually wasn't bad. It was typical of lower end Mexican restaurants where they crank out meals to coat the belly for a few giant margaritas. The service was exceptionally slow despite a huge number of waitstaff and runners. Prices are reasonable and the ambiance is quite nice.

I've given 3 stars because they're in the midst of doing so much menu-wise, ingredient wise (my husband asked for pineapple salsa and although there was none that day, there would be once the pineapples were delivered). I do think that the photos will give you a very true idea of the food...So please visit this newest choice in Hampton. Support local! The decor is kitschy. The windowsill next to me was covered in a diorama of a beach scene. However, the best dives are not much different. There aren't any hot sauces other than the two homemade ones that were run of the mill. I wish they had spicier option! I prefer vinegar-based hot sauces, unlike the house options. Next time I'll BYOHS :-) We tried the famous pupusa. It was actually quite good but soaked in oil. At least 75% of the weight of each pupusa was canola. The sauce was ok. We tried the tacos. They were over generous with the meat. The carnitas meat was a bit dry and not marinated enough. Even when doused with sauce it was a chore to eat. The carne asada flavor was excellent but the meat was rubbery, likely precooked and reheated. The churros were fine, especially for the price. I am giving 4 stars instead of 3 because of the overall experience, wonderful hospitality, and reasonable price. I would return and try some other dishes once they complete the outdoor seating area.
