I am grossly disappointed in Iowa Eye Center in Cedar Rapid, again. I have held on the the hope that things would get better. Sadly they haven't. The reception staff displayed no regard for my privacy or any HIPAA regulations. I went to the desk to inform them of my arrival. I was asked to verbally confirm my name, date of birth, address, phone number and insurance company. I don't understand why that wasn't written so I could confirm/change any information discreetly. Then I was handed a clipboard and asked to fill out forms, which required I fill in the same information I just confirmed at the desk. When I completed the forms, I waited behind another patient who was speaking with the receptionist. The receptionist asked for my forms while still checking in the patient before me. Reluctantly, I handed her the clipboard and was asked to sign another spot on the forms. I did so and then watched her lay the clipboard face up in front of the other patient and tell me to have a seat. The receptionist seemed shocked when I reached over and turned the clipboard face down so that my personal information was no longer in view of other people. I waited over 30 minutes before being called back. I've had challenges getting my prescription for glasses converted to a contact prescription before and asked my doctor what to do. I was told to go to the optical department and "Ask for Bri". I did, but didn't get to speak to Bri before I was told they would need my insurance information. When questioned why, the lady replied in a defensive tone, that they don't share information with the with the optometrist practice because they are a different entity. I understood that yet still wanted to know how my insurance information was helpful in getting my contact prescription. Then I was asked to have a seat and wait...again. About 20 minutes passed by and I was asked to step into another exam room. I explained I didnt need another exam, that I was only there to get my prescription for contacts. The lady told me that the doctors require a contact exam and that there are state and federal laws that support this requirement as she pointed to the poster on the wall. So the optometrists, that are a "separate entity" are allowed to dictate this practice? It was an optometrist that told me I wouldn't have an issue just getting my contact prescription and wouldn't need another exam. Each "entity" blaming the other and yet my time and request are disrespected. Oh, and it would be another charge of $40 that my insurance doesn't cover. I was given the 'good luck in getting any other optical place to help you' speech. As a patient and a person, I feel completely disregarded, deceived, and disrespected. I will never return to Iowa Eye Center, nor would I want anyone else to feel as irrelevant as I did when I left that place. read more

Beautiful facility; horrible service. During the height of the pandemic, Dr. Hall asked my daughter to lower her mask for the exam; only after he finished did I realize he had lowered his mask, too, while putting his face within inches of my daughter's face. Utterly unacceptable! So, we switched doctors within the same clinic, since the location is convenient for us. Today I went in and was frustrated by the tech -- my glasses seriously seemed scratched after she cleaned them, she couldn't seem to answer my questions clearly, she insisted on checking and rechecking and rechecking my pupils with the bright light and when I finally said enough because my eyes are sensitive to light and it was nearly painful, she walked out and said I was making her uncomfortable and she would get another tech. Rather than conducting my exam, the other tech informed me that I was being escorted out for throwing things at the first tech!! I do not throw things at people and am insulted to have been accused of it. They lose my family's business. If my experience is any indication, they shouldn't have your business, either. read more

Waited an extreme amount of time. Way behind. Finally told us oops.....had skipped calling us. Apparently no double check of who is in waiting room. Big disappointment. read more

The staff is friendly and helpful, and the wait times are short. They have a nice, clean waiting area and *bonus* a kids waiting area. So far we have only been here for basic exams, but Dr. Gauger is fantastic -- she's thorough, knowledgeable, friendly, and great with kiddos! read more

I went to get a procedure done on my eyes that I had made an appointment for. When the Dr. Privett was done with the procedure I had a reaction to one of the numbing medications they gave me. Dr. Privett was not concerned at all, and I was his last patient for the day. He just left me with the nurses. I wasn't even able to drive home, and had to have my boyfriend come pick me up. The next day I didn't even get a follow up call to see how I was doing from the reaction to the medication. Goes to show you how much they really care about your health. Even comes to find out they didn't even file a incident report. read more
