WARNING WARNING WARNING SLEEZY SALES PRACTICES!!!! PREDITORY SALES PRACTICES AFFECTING VETERANS IN FORT COLLINS!!!! My father is an 80-year-old retired Vietnam veteran who retired at age 78. Earlier this year, my parents relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado to be closer to me and to access better medical care after living in a rural area for nearly 30 years. They now rely primarily on Social Security. My mother, a retired teacher, still works part-time at Compass Community Collaborative School because their Social Security income and teacher pension are not enough to cover their monthly expenses. In June of this past year, a sales representative from ION Solar sold my parents a solar panel system for their home. During the sales process, they were told they would be eligible for a 30% federal solar tax credit and that the energy produced by the panels would more than offset the electrical portion of their monthly utility bills. These financial projections were a major factor in their decision to move forward with the purchase. However, when they attempted to file their taxes and claim the credit using IRS Form 5695, their accountant informed them that they are not eligible to receive the full 30% credit because their taxable income is too low to utilize the credit. This limitation was never disclosed during the sales process. Without the expected $9,572 tax credit, the terms of their solar loan will increase their monthly payment by more than $100. For a retired couple living on a limited fixed income, this increase creates a significant financial burden. I contacted ION Solar to ask whether they disclose income-based eligibility limitations for the federal tax credit to prospective customers. The representative stated that the company is "not tax experts" and that there is nothing they can do now that the contract has been signed. While I understand they may not provide tax advice, failing to disclose a widely known limitation that can significantly affect affordability--especially when selling to elderly customers on fixed incomes--raises serious concerns about transparency and ethical sales practices. My parents entered into this agreement believing the tax credit would offset a significant portion of the cost. The solar panels do not work well and after three years I have physical issues with my system and it costs 250 dollars to get a technician to come out. It is not free electric even if they are paid off. The system simply does not last. You will have maintenance issues and it will be costly to repair. I am trying to get them removed. Ion does not remove them once they are installed. I would get other options before you decide on this company. read more

Totally incompetent and awful customer service. Have had multiple issues over the last year with a couple of months of downtime. They've told me multiple times I'd be reimbursed for that, but refuse to call me back or respond to my emails when all I want is an ETA on when I'll be reimbursed. Additionally, they lied and told me they'd installed a critter guard only for me to find out months later that didn't happen when pigeons took over the panels on our roof. They eventually came out and installed it after weeks of calling their customer service trying to get it resolved. Stay far far away from this company. Once they get the panels installed they'll be nearly impossible to deal with if you have any issues. read more

WARNING WARNING WARNING Stay away! Ion Solar are the worst company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. After initial installment it took forever to get it turned on so we were paying 2 bills. Critter guard is loosely installed. After a bad hail storm we need a roof replacement so called to have the system removed and replaced. We got a quote of $7,000!!! For a day and a half's work!!! Then to add insult to injury we received a second quote of just under $11,000 ! Let me repeat, for ONE AND A HALF DAYS WORK. This is extortion at it's finest as they warn you that you'll loose your warranty if you use a different company. When I called them to try to at least get the price down to what they originally quoted, they told me that "the original quote was for partial removal " I argued that it was their mistake not mine to no avail. Another thing they tell you in their sales pitch is that they'll remove and store your panels while your roof is being replacing. BS! BEWARE OF ION SOLAR: Entered into contract with Ion Solar on 7/12/2022 to provide solar power to my house which would offset the cost of my power bill by approximately the amount of my loan payment for the equipment. I was given an estimate that my solar would be operations by the end of October. The contract states Phase 1: 30 days, Phase 2: 45-60 days, Phase 3: 45-60 days. If using the far end of estimates, should have fully functioning solar on 12/12/2022 There were several delays during the planning, permitting, and approval phase, none of which were generated by me. I have responded to every request Ion has ever given me within 24 hour of receipt. The following is the timeline of events that occurred in attempting to get my solar panels installed and functioning. December 16th Scheduled install - cancelled by Ion (no reason given. Missed work to be available) December 21st Scheduled install - cancelled by Ion (no reason given. Missed work to be available) January 6th Scheduled install - cancelled by Ion (no reason given. Missed work to be available) January 7th Ion fraudulently reports Installation completed to Dividend Finance and loan is executed January 10th dropped off two pallets of "material/ballast" and damaged driveway with delivery tractor January 11th Scheduled install - cancelled by Ion (weather) January 15th actual install date Was told solar would have "ballast". Ugly cinder blocks and metal sleds all over my roof February 10th Wifi Issues troubleshooting visit February 14th Wifi Issues troubleshooting visit March 3rd passed City Inspection March 9th CORE arrived to set meter and was unable due to system not being provisioned correctly March 29th Tech arrives to fix system. Noted no notes from Ion Tech when CORE refused to set meter due to Ion failure to provision April 4th email stating utility application for permission to operate submitted for review to utility company May 7th 3rd loan payment deducted for solar that I don't have: $637.35 No end in sight to this madness. read more

Thoroughly disappointed. The reason you see so many positive reviews on Google, is bc they ask and even pay you to right a good review after the installation. They have a very friendly and seemingly caring staff, and they are, but, they are deceiving. These panels will not save you money, in fact the cost of financing them will most likely raise your energy costs, as they do mine. I've compared apples to apples my neighbors energy bills who have the same appliances, and even more people living in their homes, and my cost exceed theirs roughly $30 a month and more at times. Solar panels are too expensive overall and so not worth it. It's hardly going green either, especially for how much you're paying. read more

The salesman came out to give us a quote. When he arrived, it was 2 PM. We had expected his coworker, not him, at 1:30. His coworker had even confirmed his appointment with us that morning by email, with him and at 1:30, not with someone else at 2. It was our first quote and we really didn't know what was involved with installing solar. The salesman's stress was on leasing the system and the costs involved with that. There was no discussion of who would actually do the work - their own employees or subcontractors. He did mention, in passing, that they work with an electrician - but the way he said it, it seemed the electrician was working for them only part-time, as a sub-contractor. When he walked into our house the first thing he asked for was our wi-fi password, which we were not about to give him, so he managed to use his phone as a hot-spot. And he didn't give us his business card or any way to contact him. He said that his company refuses to let him give out paper business cards - seemed wrong for a renewable energy company. He did email us the next day, so we finally found out his last name. All in all, the entire appointment was very strange. We were not impressed nor were we inclined to business with someone like him - he struck us as very shady, rather a snake oil salesman and it was not a company to do business with. read more

Not sure why ION Solar has soo many negative reviews? From sales to completion they we're very responsive. I had one issue after the installation was completed and they were quick to address my concern and get me going again. I've now had my system for a little over 7 years and the benefit of having my electric bill all but zeroed out at the end of each month makes it 1000% worth the investment. We were lucky to be able to pay our system off in four years and now my most expensive electric bill averages at no more than $ 20.00 per month. Highly recommend! read more

The worst customer service! Oh they're happy to make promises and take your money but heaven help you should you need service. I've had issues for months and while they've happily taken a $250 fee for a service call, I still haven't seen a technician. They say they'll call but they never do and when I call I'm on hold forever. Do better Ion Solar! read more

Do NOT do business with this company. I would give them zero stars if possible. They are as shady as can be. They will sell you a false bill of goods. They have told us that we would only pay one bill, instead we pay the loan company and our utility company now which equals double what we used to pay. They said our utility bill would be only $35 for grid access, while its regularly over $120 + $100+ for the loan. Their customer service is just as terrible as their door to door sales people and will tell you anything to get you off the phone all the while never resolving your actual issue. They've given us the run around for over a year now. We were told we would get free critter guard, which was a lie, and then we found out that they actually wrap up that amount into the loan if they actually give it to you at all. They told us we could pay $750 for it. We've also had people tell us FROM ION, that we would be better off going with another company for critter guard at this point. If someone comes to your door from ION solar, do not give them the time of day. They are only there to lie to you and sell you a false bill of goods. If any of your neighbors are looking at getting solar from this company, be a good neighbor and tell them to stay away from ION Solar. read more

Horrible. Never ever use Ion. We should have known off the bat with the pushy sales man but really wanted solar and was very excited. Their install wasnt done correctly and our insurance is saying they may not cover it. Tried to work with them about scheduling them to come out to fix their mistake, they are refusing saying there's nothing wrong besides a lose wire and keep ignoring us when we try to explain the issues. They never call back, unless weeks later and its always someone who knows nothing of what is going on and you have to repeat everything you have said to each person again and again. They are so unprofessional. I have told them to talk to my fiancé at this point about these issues as I am just done with dealing with such uncooperative people yet after giving them his information 10+ times (no joke) they still somehow do not have him in the system and hes the one they need to talk to when they do finally call back. Incredibly unhappy with this company at this point. We started the conversation and process of moving forward with solar panels in July of 2022. Solar panels were not installed until December of 2022. It was initially reassuring that every time I called, we were 'just within the expected timeframe' but it became very suspicious that there was only forward motion after I would call and text. It is now May of 2023, the solar panels have been installed for 5 months, they are not active, I have already made 2 monthly payments on my solar panels in addition to my regular monthly electric bill. We have failed two inspections; they were a no show for my third inspection. Waiting for the 4th one to be scheduled. Installation was spread out over a two week period when it should have been done within the day that it was scheduled to be installed. Multiple visits since to fix things that are missing or to label things that were left unlabeled. read more

Really, really bad installation job - I've had to replace several cracked roof tiles due to the poor installation job done by Ion Solar. I've also been trying to get a "critter guard" installed and they've taken my money (over $800) and when i try to get someone out to install the guard, I get forwarded to several people and ultimately told they will call back, which they never do. Then to add insult to injury, then auto-generate a text message saying, "thanks for calling....if you need anything contact us...." yea........i'd like my critter guard installed and for ION to reimburse me for the roofing repairs..... really bogus set up...............check references before you buy. read more

I have had my system installed now 5 years. I should have gone with a different company from the start. The sales representative came out and did a good job on selling me the program and I agreed to it but when he sent across how many panels I would need there was a slight problem. They put it on the wrong house and when I brought it to his attention he apologized and sent over a new bid with an increased price of $5k dollars. I immediately called him and told him to cancel the deal as I would go out and get other offers. He responded would I do the deal if he through the panels in for free and I said yes as that was the price we agreed upon. Install went fine and I thought there would be no issues until my first panel stopped reporting. I called in to the company which took 5 days to get someone to call me back and schedule a tech to come see what was happening. The tech came and stated the mircro-inverter was bad so I would need another one. I asked him don't you have it on your van and he said no we don't carry those so I would have to call ION back and get one sent out. It took 7 days to get the inverter and then another 5 days to get a tech back out to install the inverter. All though their service was poor for a $21k system I though that would be the end of it. A year later same exact panel goes out, another 10 days to get a tech out and this time it was the previous tech didn't make a proper connection and it went bad. Again not happy but thought it was resolved. In less than a year same exact panel goes out, another 10 days to get a tech out and this time it was that installer didn't secure the inverter correctly and it fell off so it caused the connection to come undone. This time he was going to use more zip ties (which I questioned because of the heat the zip tie would be under in the summer and the snow and ice in the winter would make the plastic zip tie become fragile but he insisted it wouldn't). He also mentioned if it happens again it could also be due to pests getting under the panels. I asked if he saw a nest and he said no but there were feathers so it could be pests. Again such POOR service for a $21k system. Now today the EXACT same panel is bad and I call and speak with MJ out of the Philippines and he tells me because I am out of warranty it is going to cost me $250.00 to get a tech out. I explained to him the problems I have been having with the exact same panel year after year and he asks if he can call me back because his manager Eliza Robinson is in the states and he needs to get authorization, this was at 9:00 am. It is now 12:00 and surprise no call back so I call MJ back and he apologizes and said Eliza approved to only charge me $200.00. I told him this was not acceptable because they have been out 4 times in the past and obviously unable to diagnose or completely fix the problem. I told MJ if it was a different panel I would have no problem paying the fee but because it is the same panel that does't work for me and I would like to speak to his supervisor. He stated he emailed Eliza and also Sabrina Thomas but they were offline. I stayed on the phone with MJ for 1.5 hours and ask him I would like a time when these managers will call me back and for 1.5 hours he stated that his mangers have 24-48 hours to call me back. To me if a manager can't speak with a current customer because they are too busy it either means they have way too many problems or they don't care about you once they have your contract. I ask for their managers and get his name as Jamison Lunnen and guess what he was off line also and unavailable to speak with me. I am now beyond upset with ION and ask MJ. If I do agree to pay this $200 dollars when would a tech come out? He said he can't answer that question because all he can do is take the money and then with in 5 business days someone from the dispatch team would get a hold of me to schedule me so my guess it would be another 15 days before anyone comes out if I am lucky. Talk about EXTREMELY POOR service. read more

Ion Solar is the epidemy of bait and switch. While our system was under warranty, the company was immediate in action, and the response to issues was appreciated. Now that our system is out of warranty, they are unwilling to speak with us regardless if we are willing to pay for repairs. What repairs? During our warranty period, a rodent chewed lines from the inverters. We invested in a "critter guard" ($500 +) to be installed. The protection is worthless. At the time of install Ion Solar stated this would "STOP" the damage. It didn't. When I contacted them this year, we were informed the guard is simply a deterrent and in no way indented to stop damage from rodents. So what's the point? Finally, when a quote for repair was requested, after numerous phone calls, I was assured a quote would be sent that day. It has never arrived. Not a business I plan to continue throwing money towards. Therefore I've hired a competitor of ION that has been forthright in scheduling my inspection and repair (pending). read more

The way I was spoken to and referred to with my family was absolutely unreal and I do not recommend this company due to the level of inhumanity I received today when they showed up to my house. This company has lost my business anyways even if I was considering anything in the future. My wife was talked down to as well and this was not appreciated and she was upset because of this occurrence. I will be placing reviews all over the web with this company and information so I can get the word out there for folks that do not seem to "get-it" and understand how to by human. As you can see from the reviews, they are horrible! They had a fabulous sales guy who made all the numbers appear irrefutable. They damaged teh roof during installation and did the minimum to repair it. The loan company they work with, Loan Pal, is an absolute joke. They keep sending us loan info two years after we sold the house and transferred the loan. Two and half years later, I received another request from the current owners to attempt to transfer it again. Since they are still paying for the solar, the cost benefit still isn't seen. Working with Ion Solar has been the most stressful and challenging project ever. I moved into my townhome in August 2021 and on the same day we moved in a sales technician named Jeffrey came knocking on my door and i wish i had never opened my door to these scammers. I signed a contract for a loan on solar panels on the same day and since then my nightmares began. Ion Solar has a dedicated HOA team that works with HOAs to get approval currently Trudee Kelson. Ion Solar didn't get approval from HOA nor bothered to find out whether we owned our roof before installing 13 panels on our roof. We failed inspection because our HOA owns the roof and we are not allowed to have solar panels. We spent 2 years going back and forth with Ion Solar and the HOA and Xcel as well as the city and county. Our HOA modified their rules and made an exception just for us to keep the panels after working with the city and county. Mind you we were paying for our solar panel loan $24,000 as well as electricity from Xcel completely defeating the purpose of having solar panels. I have even talked to Kyle their VP who has eventually ghosted me. They already got their money from the bank for the panels so why bother to make things right? For 2 whole years i have been stuck paying for solar panels i never got to use. I finally gave up and said i don't want the panels anymore this is too much and didn't wish to pay for 2 utility bills. Still no resolution. There are lots of other solar companies competent enough please don't let these scam artists inside your home. I have worked with Jeffrey Crowley from sales, Trudee Kelson from HOA, project coordinator Taylor, Adrielle Waters and Thomas Nevin as well as Kyle their VP. None of them were competent enough to accomplish anything in the past 2 years. These people will take your money and disappear. read more

Do not use Ion Solar. Had the salesman show up to my house and it is the worst purchase I have ever made. First the electrician they had messed up on their measurements and put an extra hole in the side of my house that took them 3 weeks to fix. They left hundreds of nails all over my property and it took me weeks to find them all. I explained that i have two small children and pets so this was important to me. The whole time Ion customer service and managers assured me they would have someone come out and thouroughly clean my property. That was 4 years ago now and it has never happened. Then they failed inspection which took them longer to come out and fix. I actually made a payment on the loan before my solar was even turned on. about 8 months ago i started the process to get a new roof. Before I could get one I had to do a Lift and Replace of my solar panels which cost my insurance company over $7,000. The salesman when i first bought my panels promised me that Ion would store and safely handle my solar panels if that ever happened. When I mentioned this to Ion they said that is not part of their policy and I would have to store my panels in my garage for however long it would take. It took me months to finally get them to agree and to honor their word. Ion then ended up breaking 4 of my panels and it has been over 60 days and my panels are still not back on my roof. I have spoken to just about everyone I can at that company and nothing. All they do is apologize and then apologize oh and one more apology but then they do not follow up with you or call you or do anything about your complaint so you are forced to make a poor review. read more

Wow .. where to begin . Our Ion experience has been a nightmare almost from day one. We purchased a new home in Castlerock in July 2021. Almost immediately we were solicited by ion solar and several others. Because of the HOA requirements that want everything enclosed, we chose Ion, not to mention they talked a good game. We were very clear that we would be adding a hot tub and outdoor kitchen etc. and would want our panels to reflect that and were assured this would be the case . In good faith, never having had solar before we moved forward. (What they should have done is had us wait a year to see the actual usage ). Fast forward to when the hot tub was actually put in ( a few months later) and our core bills did not reflect anything near what Ty our sales rep told us they would. After a few months of this, we contacted him only to be ignored, literally ignored for almost a year before he decided to respond to us. Only responding after we reached out to corporate. At that point he did admit that he made a mistake on how he calculated our panels. He told us that he would draw up contract to do an add-on and he would pay for our bills up to that point that were over and above. At this point his office tells us that they don't do add-ons. He then responds to that and tells us he got special permission and they will do an add-on and he will pay both our core and our ion bills for the months that we were over paying. Fast forward several more months of being ignored by Ty we finally get a new contract for the add-on. Now keep in mind. Several people in our neighborhood are just now adding and are being told that they can add on later if they need to which is also what we were told at the beginning. Two weeks ago, we signed the new contract with Ty telling us he will be then VENMOing us the several thousand dollars he owes us. He then proceeds to ignore us for another two weeks and today has come back and said that since it's coming out of his own pocket ( which he has told us from day one ) he can only pay us $100 a week. Two weeks ago he was stated that he was going to pay the money that weekend into our Venmo. At this point I am aware we will not get any of that money back and now we are into Ion for even more money, because that was the lesser of the two evils. Hopefully down the road our solar will actually pay off, but this is just a public service announcement for those considering ion.
