The business owner Tamer (Tim) was quick to respond and quick to schedule. He did a walk through of our home talking through future work planned. Our immediate job of laundry room remodel was quickly quoted and scheduled. Tim talked through the options and was very supportive of giving recommendations. Knowing our subfloor had leveling issues and was creaky we decided best was to go for full tile floors instead of keeping laminate / vinyl. We had subfloor work, new porcelain tile, beadboard accent wall, and new thresholds by R&R 360. We were given the freedom to choose our floor tiles locally. I did notice a negative review from a former employee, James, who actually worked in our home. It's no surprise to us that he's no longer with the company and is leaving poor reviews years later. CAUTION!! We definitely do not recommend MJ Whelan Construction, Milford Mi. for your next home…read moreremodel! Our experience with Whelan was difficult, frustrating and huge waste of our time and money. They lack integrity, transparency, communication and were extremely high priced. Their customer service is very poor, they do not listen to their customer and refused to provide detailed cost for our contract. We tried twice (2021 and 2025) to work with MJ Whelan for our home remodel which consisted of 3 additions: new first floor master suite, entertainment room with bathroom and front porch addition but ran into issues both times. We were unable to get to a signed contract. The first time in 2021, we provided prints but they came in with a price that was crazy high (thought maybe due to Covid) so we shopped around. We had some of the work done by another company then came back to Whelan (2025) to requote. After paying them $8400 for new "sketches" (not even CAD or construction prints) with minor changes to our original drawings, they actually tripled the price!! Unbelievable! We asked them to see what they could do to reduce the cost and all they did was take out content or lower product quality (windows, siding, cabinets, etc.). Ironically, the prices weren't reducing. It's like they played the shell game. They didn't listen or hear us. They did what they wanted. We would tell them what we wanted, then they'd come back with something different. And all this with no detailed costs to work with. We kept getting back total numbers and cost TBDs (cost to be determined)! We were so frustrated. We tried for 7 months only to end up with nothing. We decided to cut our losses $8400 and 7months and walked away. We thought, If it was this difficult to get a contract signed we didn't have any confidence or trust the building experience would be any better! Either MJWhelan got greedy due to covid or grew too fast and can't manage the business. Not sure, but we weren't willing to pay $500k-$1.4m without knowing exactly what we were paying for.
