Local Chinese supermarket servicing Fresh Meadows and nearby neighborhoods. The interior is now a bit dated thus losing a star but not a deal breaker. The staff keep to themselves and helpful when needed. It's not as large as other nearby Chinese supermarkets however they're always well stocked with good prices and an ample parking lot. Went to the cashier to check out and instead of handing me my receipt the cashier just threw it to the side. On another visit I saw them rubbing off the expiration dates off of products. During the pandemic, the owners and employees worked frivolously to help support the patrons. They had face shields and sanitizers. The owners would spray the floor every half hour.. the floor... and that really goes a long way. Not that the floor matters but you know, it's still an expense and much respect for their tireless hard work. In 2020, there were weekend lines that went all the way to the parking lot. Just wanted to take the time to thank the workers for their time, and being exceptionally diligent, to maintain their hours with the freshest of produce- so that customers would be able to stock their freezers and fridges. These are the frontline workers who oftentimes do not get the recognition because they gave us the opportunity for us to buy all our essentials so we can stay safely at home. Prices are generally lower. Poultry/seafood are very fresh, as you can see from their displays. The only thing a bit pricey are their personal care (shampoos, soaps, etc). But for the most part, most people pack their carts to the rim, and wheel it to the car, because they no longer offer bags. Either way, it's a must-have option for every neighborhood. read more

I really like this market, mainly because of their convenient parking lot but they also have a lot of things you typically look for at a Chinese supermarket. I come here for drinks, seafood, hotpot meats/broth/sauces, and fishballs and such. They have really cheap fruits and vegetable too. Being close to the fresh meadows theater and stores like Modells, Kohls, Carters, Starbucks, Michaels and Five Guys. This Chinese supermarket is kind of hidden in Fresh Meadows amongst a community of co-op apartments near Cunningham Park but it has everything you need to make Chinese, Vietnamese, and Filipino food. I like that their packaged meat display is neat and the meat does not have blood running out of it like at some supermarkets. The fish and meat department always has butchers ready to take your request. They have a large variety of Asian vegetables including dau miu choy, green papaya, and kombucha squash. They also have a large selection of $1-$2 veggie packs but you can get pretty much any kind of vegetable for under $2 here. read more

This market is either crowded or accesible, my wife shops here every once in a while but the place is small and the layout of the aisles is not conducive to social distancing. When you walk in the place does not look clean, floors are messy and the cashiers are not friendly at all. My first choice is H-Mart on Bayside at francis lewis. You walk in that supermarket and the floors are clean, staff is very friendly and the fruit and veggies look fresh and well stock. Huge differences. Plus the butcher shop always has nice cuts of beef, pork and poultry available. In my opinion IOG supermarket needs a serious makeover! Plus they need better housekeeping all around. read more

I am not a fan, I am an air conditioner, of this place. Allow me to expound! To the uninitiated, Chinese-run supermarkets can sometimes be scary places. The staff here makes everyone - all shoppers - whether they speak Mandarin, Cantonese, or English, feel welcome. Items are almost always in stock, and the staff knows precisely where everything is, and whether they carry a particular brand of whatever you may be seeking. I have found items here from TPE and HKG that I have trouble finding in the heart of downtown Flushing! It also helps that this is situated 6 minutes from where I live with a spacious parking lot that is never totally full. A more perfect Chinese supermarket, I have not found. Coronavirus Diary Day 56 - 5/9/2020 I had to stop by IOG just because I needed some vegetables and green papaya that were not available at a nearby H Mart. The waiting line to get in wasn't that bad. Produce section was awesome since they had pretty much every item on my list. On the other hand, beef was nowhere to be found in the meat department. Again, social distancing wasn't quite practiced here. No gloves or hand sanitizers were provided. Shopping cart handles were not wiped after use; however, the receptacles for disposing of gloves were provided out front. read more

Came here with my mom on Sunday and it wasn't too crowded. This is her local Chinese supermarket and I've been here several times in the past with her. They have their own parking lot so it's much more convenient than going to Chinatown where it's mad crowded. It's basic, no food court or Chinese bbq station like some of the bigger supermarkets. It had almost everything on my weekly shopping list and prices were good. I finally got a 15 lb bag of rice for under $20. For the past few years, due to supply chain issues they say, rice along with other goods have become more expensive. The butcher counter looked good and my mom got her various pork products for the week/month?! The produce was good too and had what I wanted but their garlic and scallion could have been fresher. It's a pretty clean place and there was someone with a Zamboni cleaning the floor. There's no distinctive smell which is what I find so unappealing with the Chinatown places. I will no doubt be back because it's where my mom shops but good to know it's a viable alternative to Chinatown and if I can't get to my favorite Chinese supermarket in Long Island, Super FL (fooled you, you thought it would say 99 Ranch). read more

Very convenient since it has a huge parking right in front of the store and that they open early and close late. Always a go to in case of cooking emergencies. It also offers wide variety of products from Filipino to Chinese to korean not to mention some Spanish and local items too. Their meat and fish are almost always fresh ( repeat! almost always). Staff can be mean especially the old ones. This is an Asian supermarket, This is not my primary Asian supermarket that I go to simply because it is far from where I live, but when I have enough time to drive, this is where I go to. What I like in this place is the variety of choices on vegetables, canned food, fresh fruits and a lot more as compared to nearby Asian supermarkets. They offer live fish, live lobster, live crab, the live fish they will clean and cut it for you, just tell them the way how you wanted it cut. In terms of fish, meat and vegetables it is less expensive here as compared to American or any other ethnic supermarkets. Most of the time the cashier line is fast and quick, understandably during Saturday's and Sundays there are always a long line. If you are looking for an item that is not available in your usual Asian supermarket, there is a big chance that it might be available here. They have a good parking area. My go-to Asian grocery market where you'll find me at least once or twice a week. The Associated supermarket that used to be here was only so-so despite it being in the middle of the huge Fresh Meadows residential development and didn't make it for very long. I am so glad that I.O.G. (Island of Gold, same owners as Gold City on Kissena) took over because I can get just about anything food-wise under the sun for good prices and very fresh too. All your everyday staples, milk, bread, eggs, fresh fruits & veggies are here in abundance and turnover rather quickly. How many brands of ramen do they stock? I lost count. You won't find high end cuts of meat here, but you can get lots of fish & seafood including lobster & dungeness crab. Most unusual item here? Beef pizzle, look it up. read more

However, 2 things I can't stand are 1) fighting for a parking spot in Flushing and then getting my car scratched on the side because people are careless, and 2) overcrowdedness in flushing. I very much remember this supermarket when it first opened in our neighborhood. Its a little order now and they have added fresh fish tanks year ago. Its my go to supermarket without going into flushing. Love that they have a huge ramen selection, a small but sufficient veggie and fruit section as compared to the supermarkets in the flushing area, but its definitely enough for my needs. There is also a huge selection of powdered coffee and teas. I was able to find my blanco 3 in one coffee which is hard to find online too and in other supermarkets. They also have a huge selection of dried flower teas. Over all i can find everything i need without going into downtown flushing and there is plenty of parking, but definitely prices has gone up since the pandemic. read more

One of the more successful Asian markets outside of Flushing, NY. It mainly succeeds based on a high volume, low cost concept with a location that includes free parking away from the gridlock madness that comes with going to Flushing, NY. There is a great selection of everything from Asian packed/canned goods like sauces and dry packed noodles along with with fresh perishable items like tofus and noodles. There is fresh meats and seafood with tanks full of fish and hard to find items in the local ShopRite or Fairways. It's always packed on the weekends and they do sellout of a few items(for example, my favorite brand of rice). If you don't see something on the shelf or can't find something, you'd be hard pressed to find someone to help unless the store was completely empty. The cashiers are no nonsense, fast paced, you should not expect any words to be exchanged during your transaction,... ever. Just pay and get out. Seafoods and shellfish are within affordable prices. A whole aisle dedicated to a particular ethnicity. You won't get lost looking for what's in your list. You may get lost looking for the right street of the supermarket towards the parking lot unless you're familiar with the area. Has Big parking as it is located in a commercial center. I've been starting to make more Asian meals at home (mostly Chinese and Filipino), and IOG has become a reliable place to find some elusive ingredients at a somewhat decent price. The Place: The place itself is somewhat small in scale, and it could get crowded at times. It has a pretty straight-forward layout, with the checkout lanes and meat and seafood markets up front, produce in the middle, about five aisles of dry stock going the rest of the way to the back, and frozen and refrigerated stock hugging around most of the store. Hard to get lost in. I find cleanliness to be ehhh in the market area (just below average: it could be cleaner; sometimes there's a smell) and fine in the dry stock aisles. 3/5. The Products: I spend a lot of my time in the produce section, and as a Filipino, I'm mildly content to find a dedicated aisle for some Filipino products, though its mostly common junk food. There are some things on my shopping list that I'm unable to find here. For the most part, I find their products to be only decent, but I'll find some old-looking / freezer burned prepackaged meat and some produce that are starting to go bad. I usually have to be picky with what I pick up, and what I do pick up is decent. If I'm looking to stock up my fridge, this wouldn't be the place to come to, and I would be wary about getting more than enough items from here; whatever I buy will be used that very same day. 2.5/5. The People: No complaints, really. The employees seem to always be hard at work; it doesn't matter if they're stockers or cashiers. 3/5. IOG is a decent place to pick up some Asian ingredients, but you may find that their inventory is limited and you probably have to go elsewhere to find what you're looking for. I probably should be giving them two stars (as in "could be better"), but I think they're an attractive option personally because of their okay prices and they do have some items that I can find. My family has been going to IOG for years. But, last week we had a terrible experience with one of the cashiers. Upon checkout, my father paid a particular cashier $40 for a $22 total. The cashier attempted to give him back only $3- and insisted that he had only given her $25. My father asked to speak with a manager and after 20 minutes, no one came. That is when he told the cashier that he will be calling law enforcement to rectify the situation--once the cashier heard this, she called over a young man who then came and took the receipt and the additional money. Giving the impression they are hiding the change that was owed to my father. The following day we returned and asked to speak with a manager again- the woman whom claimed she was management had no remorse and did not even offer to check cameras or look into the matter for us further. Rather, her tone was very matter of factly it is your own fault. It seems they are taking advantage of the elderly population. Additionally, their attitude towards fellow asian americans is disgraceful- only when people of different ethnicities are present they act as though they are graceful. This market is TRASH- look on the floors and you will see the filth. read more

It's your standard Chinese supermarket - nothing fancy and you basically show up to get the shit you need. I do like shopping here for the fact that there's not a lot of people around compared to say Flushing or Chinatown. There's parking and rarely is it ever at full capacity (as people come and go pretty quickly). If you don't want to deal with the hustle/bustle/bullshit, this is a good option if you have a car. As for what they sell - the selection is ok. It's not amazing but it's big enough to cover most of what you need. For me I usually get my hot pot ingredients here. They do a decent job of that. They also have a reasonably decent butcher and seafood section, which is a plus. The fruit section here isn't bad either. Generally this place is only limited by the amount of space it has relative to other, more cavernous supermarkets. People here aren't exactly friendly but they are efficient and I've really never had any problems with their produce. But keep in mind the experience of shopping here isn't always that pleasant due to narrow aisles relative to the amount of foot traffic they get compared to the overall space. Otherwise, if you just need to buy shit and don't want to deal with shopping in Flushing or Chinatown, this is a good option. read more

There are many grocery stores in Fresh Meadows, but they usually tend to be overpriced. Chinese grocery stores and corner fruit/vegetable stands generally have the best pricing and highest quality produce. IOG has a good selection and probably lower prices and higher quality than most other grocery stores in the area, but if you are willing to trek to Flushing, you'll notice a huge difference in price, quality, variety and of course wait time at the check out line. There's a very large parking lot that is shared among several stores in the strip mall, with a smaller lot in the front of the strip mall. It's sort of odd because it's this little deserted island of stores surrounded by a school, buildings and houses. Super residential area... My favorite things about this place is: they put all of their specials around the cash register or at the end of each aisle, they have a really nice selection of Asian toiletries and $1 bags of veggies and fruits. Granted the $1 bags of veggies and fruits are produce that has been there for too long, most of it is in pristine condition so you might have to dig around a little bit, it's equivalent to shopping in the clearance section at Macy's. read more

Unfortunately, many of the products do not have English labels, and the employees also have limited English skills, so that limits what I can choose. There is a large parking lot, which is a nice feature, because some of the Asian markets in the Flushing area only have very limited street parking, and I am unwilling to drive around and around looking for some distant parking spot. All in all, it serves my purposes for finding good produce at good prices, and Asian products that are not carried by the normal grocery stores. read more

The convenience of this market simply can't be beat. The parking is a definite bonus. The layout leaves something to be desired but who cares if it has pretty much everything you need? The market caters more to the Chinese and Filipino crowd with a freezer full of dumplings at the back of the store and another freezer filled with Filipino goodies like lumpia, longanisa, and hopia! They also have the 3 Bamboo brand of rice noodles which is the best rice noodles for all kinds of Vietnamese dishes. Those rice noodles are nowhere to be found in the regular Flushing area so to find them here was a miracle! Their produce is pretty varied, check out the shelf right behind the seafood where they'll have bags of discounted veggies for a measly $1! It definitely makes adding some fiber to your meals an easy task. Highly recommend if you have a car, need Chinese or Filipino groceries, and don't want to deal with the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing. read more

Recently moved to the area and I was looking for a Chinese or Asian supermarket with a parking lot that was NOT in Flushing. IOG is less than ten blocks away with parking. In fact, the strip has an, "Enrichment Center" which made me laugh because I grew up attending Kumon. Sigh, memories. My grocery shopping is never done. I go to my local grocery store, then sometimes I go to Trader Joe's or Fairway, then the vegetable stand, then of course I need my Asian goodies. Typical Chinese supermarket. I was able to find almost everything. I got a 1.00$ bag of veggies that are, "about to go bad." Chopped it up with garlic for a stir fry and it was delish. Seafood is fresh, I got a huge piece of Salmon and didn't realize it was $20 bucks! I went home started to cut it and I was able to make five portions of it (three I froze, one for dinner and one for lunch the next day) and calculated that I indeed saved money compared to if I ordered fish at a restaurant. And of course they had my lovely lovely shrimp chips (the japanese kind that looks orange). Win win. I do think the location is quite bizarre, really in the middle of a residential neighborhood but good for me! And for those complaining about staff, it's an Asian supermarket. Typical. Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing, my parents and I like to frequent this Chinese supermarket in Fresh Meadows. When it first opened a few years ago, the supermarket was fairly clean and uncrowded. Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. As more people discovered the supermarket, it started going downhill. But it's better than the options in Flushing, so we still come here for our groceries. The parking lot is big so parking is never a problem. The prices are reasonable and the selection of groceries is decent. You can find all your favorite Asian veggies and food stuffs here. Post COVID This is our 2nd time shopping here. I really like the wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables plus the prices are extremely reasonable. The sauces & oils in jars and bottles are outstanding, I could literally fill up 1 shopping cart to stockpile my pantry and spend less money here than at the million other Asian supermarkets in queens or manhattan. They also have a large variety of miso, curry paste, tofu, kimchi, buns, wonton wrappers (different colors and shapes) in the refrigerated section. This store has a wide variety of ramen noodles which are ten times better than the cheap ramen noodles found in American grocery stores. The variety of seaweed sheets are also large and reasonably priced. This is going to be our "go to" Asian market from now on, even though it's long drive. I highly recommend this place because all of the employees are very nice and helpful even though they may not be able to understand me. Wow! Obnoxious! Stopped here yesterday on a leisurely walk. Noticed they had strawberries for $1.99, plus several other decently priced items. Came back today with my car to do some shopping and saw the same strawberries for $3.99! I asked an employee about the change in price and he just kept yelling at me "$3.99!!!" then turned his back to me. He was outrageously rude, so I informed him that I will be taking my business to the supermarket. Not that he could care one way or the other! Btw, the place stinks from fish! read more

I've stopped going here. While the prices and selection are reasonable, they are no different from other markets. When it comes time to check out, you're greeted by a scowling cashier who seems like you're bother her. The owners need to realize that this poor customer service is affecting their bottom line. If the cashiers feel like customers bothering them, then maybe it's time for a new job. If they want to keep their jobs, then learn basic customer service 101 ... common courtesy goes a long way. Do not throw my receipt at me. Do no text while you're working. Do no talk angrily to the other cashiers. Do not complain in Chinese ... I understand you,.
