Fish in tank.. some do not look so well.. I did see fish with cloudy eyes

I have been visiting this market for some time and I usually get some good things from here for a good price so I encourage you to shop. If you ask anyone there for help such as I do I asked today about a soup and what was in it. Now I always get a idk I'm not Japanese or whatever the product may be lol so listen scratch all of that just go. Get what u can read Today I got a few different items and my total was about $65 bucks which to me was great for all that I brought. I do not eat meat so I do need the shrimp section to get a little bigger I mean chicken & pork are dominating in this place! They have a good selection for the juices check that out & for tea as well.

    Sliced lamb

I bought sliced lamb from the supermarket yesterday for a hot pot, and as we were eating, we suddenly came across this dark slab of mush on the bottom. This is disgusting. I did not have time to go back to the market, but definitely stay away from anything that is store packaged.

I really like this market, mainly because of their convenient parking lot but they also have a lot of things you typically look for at a Chinese supermarket. I come here for drinks, seafood, hotpot meats/broth/sauces, and fishballs and such. They have really cheap fruits and vegetable too. Being close to the fresh meadows theater and stores like Modells, Kohls, Carters, Starbucks, Michaels and Five Guys. You can do nearly all your errands nearby and grocery shop all in one trip without the headache of looking for parking.

This Chinese supermarket is kind of hidden in Fresh Meadows amongst a community of co-op apartments near Cunningham Park but it has everything you need to make Chinese, Vietnamese, and Filipino food. I like that their packaged meat display is neat and the meat does not have blood running out of it like at some supermarkets. The fish and meat department always has butchers ready to take your request. They have a large variety of Asian vegetables including dau miu choy, green papaya, and kombucha squash. They also have a large selection of $1-$2 veggie packs but you can get pretty much any kind of vegetable for under $2 here.

This is an Asian supermarket, This is not my primary Asian supermarket that I go to simply because it is far from where I live, but when I have enough time to drive, this is where I go to. What I like in this place is the variety of choices on vegetables, canned food, fresh fruits and a lot more as compared to nearby Asian supermarkets. They offer live fish, live lobster, live crab, the live fish they will clean and cut it for you, just tell them the way how you wanted it cut. In terms of fish, meat and vegetables it is less expensive here as compared to American or any other ethnic supermarkets. Most of the time the cashier line is fast and quick, understandably during Saturday's and Sundays there are always a long line. If you are looking for an item that is not available in your usual Asian supermarket, there is a big chance that it might be available here. They have a good parking area. Try this Asian store and you will like it.

My go-to Asian grocery market where you'll find me at least once or twice a week. The Associated supermarket that used to be here was only so-so despite it being in the middle of the huge Fresh Meadows residential development and didn't make it for very long. I am so glad that I.O.G. (Island of Gold, same owners as Gold City on Kissena) took over because I can get just about anything food-wise under the sun for good prices and very fresh too. All your everyday staples, milk, bread, eggs, fresh fruits & veggies are here in abundance and turnover rather quickly. How many brands of ramen do they stock? I lost count. You won't find high end cuts of meat here, but you can get lots of fish & seafood including lobster & dungeness crab. Most unusual item here? Beef pizzle, look it up.

Most convenient Chinese Supermarket around me BUT the prices here are higher with not that many good selections. I guess I'll just go a little further to SkyFoods inside the SkyView Center. Sigh! I think I have become THE Grocery Lady, so I am developing a sense of where the best prices are lol. Yes, I am serious!

There's definitely some New York City DWCP laws being violated by the seafood department here…read more Per the NYC DWCP website: In New York City, businesses selling goods by weight, like food, are required to deduct the weight of the packaging (tare weight) from the total weight to ensure customers pay only for the product. This is part of New York State and New York City's Weights and Measures laws enforced by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP). Tare Weight: This is the weight of the packaging or container that holds the food. For example, the weight of the plastic container holding deli meat. Net Weight: This is the actual weight of the food being sold, after the tare weight has been subtracted. Legal Requirement: Businesses must ensure scales are accurate and display the net weight of the product to the customer, and they must take into account the tare weight. Consumer Rights: Customers have the right to see the scale and ensure it is displaying the correct weight, with a zero or minus sign indicating the tare weight has been deducted. I bought three lobsters here at $12/pound. The seafood counter person took them out of the lobster tank dripping water, placed them into a large, heavy, brown paper bag (see similar photo I borrowed from another reviewer who had a similar experience - I discarded my bag upon returning home) and then into another large plastic bag. I asked the fishmonger politely if he could pour out the large amount of excess water ($12/pound for water is silly). He became extremely irate and said that lobster is composed primarily of water and therefore would not pour the water out of the bag. At that point, I didn't even endeavor to explain NYC packaging tare weight laws to him. Paid for my lobster, water and packaging and left. Fully understand that it's not easy to make profit in NYC, but sad that this market needed to resort to breaking the law to do so. Unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened here, but this was the first time I decided to ask the seafood counter person about it. If selling seafood isn't profitable, it's not necessary to deceive customers, just charge more to cover your expenses or please, just don't sell it.
