Perfect place to get gas and a snack on the way to mammoth. The gas price was reasonable and the real reason I'm leaving this review is because of the staff. Two incredibly nice people. I used to stop here on every trip to Mammoth that we would make when I was a kid. We stopped here so often, they gave us the local rate. WAIT WHA??? HUH?? LOCAL RATE FOR GAS? Be careful that you dont pay the tourist rate which I think is $.10-$.20/gallon more than the local rate. Ohhh surprise surprise ehhh? The bathrooms and shop used to be much nice 10+ years ago then they are now. It has kind of gotton a bit dilapidated the last few years as I have motored through. None the less, they have all of your mule days trinkets and t shirts as well as the usual grub and drinks. I just do not find it the best place to stop on the way to mammoth or reno or wherever anymore. It is a shell of what it once was =X sorry for the bad pun, but I couldnt help it... So go here if everything else is closed, otherwise I would skip right past it to the paiute gas stop on the left another mile down the road. read more

This was the easiest place to stop on my 7 hour drive home but they NEVER have paper for reciepts & always have to go inside, then the pumps are so worn out it doesn't register when you push the buttons making it necessary again to have to go inside!! when they closed thier bathrooms because of covid which made no sense other than being lazy & not wanting to clean them i am officially done with this station! read more

Beware: Skimmer on pump 07. Fueled up yesterday 4-28-19 on our way home to Nevada. This was the only place the card was used on the 28th. Got a notice from our bank this morning that someone tried to purchase something from Alaskan Airlines for $311.00 but was declined for lack of the proper information. I'm not sure where to begin. I literally just want to smash my computer screen as I try to explain my HORRIBLE experience at this Shell Gas Station. I'm going to try my best. WARNING: EXTREMELY LONG My girlfriend and I were on our way to South Lake Tahoe for a getaway weekend with our family. We were coming from Los Angeles and had a pretty smooth drive up until we got the Bishop. We noticed that CalTrans issued a warning that cars needed to have chains on their tires in order to pass certain parts of the mountain. We weren't aware of it and did not come prepared. We saw a big yellow sign at this Shell Gas Station that they sold chains. We quickly turned into the lot and inquired about the different chains they offered and the one we need for our vehicle. The gentleman I spoke to, GERALD, asked me to take a photo of our tires and get the model # on it. I went back out and did exactly what he requested me to do. I followed his instructions thoroughly assuming that he was a professional in this scenario, and I knew that I didn't know too much about tire chains. So I go back in and show the lady who was at the register (Gerald was in the back doing some other work) the different information that Gerald asked me to get. She pulls out a book that listed different model #s and which chains fit them correctly. She then points out to a corner of the store and told me to grab the "1034s". I asked her if she was sure and replied with "I'm pretty sure, but let me grab Gerald. He knows more about these chains." I waited patiently for Gerald to come back out on the floor because I was in desperate need of help figuring out which chains I needed for our vehicle. He inspects the model # and looks at the box we got. He nodded and said it was the correct one. At this point, I felt extremely relieved that they were nice enough to help an individual who had know idea how chains worked and how to correctly pick them out. I pay for the chains and a set of cords that were designed to help keep the chains tightly connected to my tires. Total came to about $56. I was out the door and hopped back on the highway. about 30-35 miles down the road, we were stopped by gentlemen in safety vests and instructed us to pull over to the side and install our chains before heading up the mountain. There were workers there that charged $40 and only took cash. I didn't have cash on me unfortunately and had to install the chains on myself. The box came with instructions that were pretty easy to follow and I managed to get through every step except the last one; the part where we have to securely connect the chains together. I spent about 30 minutes tugging at the chains trying to get them to fit, but the two ends just weren't long enough. It was about 15 degrees at this point and pitch black. I look at the box again to see if there were any other steps I might've missed and noticed the different Model #s that were listed. I look at my tires again and try to match the model #s with the chains that the Station instructed me to get. It finally struck me that the reason why I wasn't able to successfully install them was because they gave me the wrong damn chain! My tire's model number was listed on the box. I Google my tire model and it said that I needed the 1038s, not the 1034s that the Station told me to get. I call them back and spoke to Gerald. I explained him the misunderstanding (calmly btw, even after spending an hour in the damn cold trying to install the chains) and he refused to exchange them. His reason was that "You should've checked the box before making the purchase. We have signs all over the place that chains aren't returnable." I told him that I'm heading back and that we'll talk about it once I got there. I had no choice but to go back. I couldn't go up the mountain without the chains. 35 miles back to the station, I again calmly explained to Gerald that the product they gave me was wrong even after I gave them the information that THEY instructed me to get. He wouldn't budge and stuck with his "You should've double checked before purchasing" story. I was extremely furious at this point. I just spent an hour on the floor trying to install the chains in 15 degree weather. And this joke of a professional, Gerald, showed no damn sympathy for a paying customer. I had no choice but to purchase ANOTHER set of chains because they were required by CalTrans. Look, I understand that I made the mistake of not double checking the box to see if my tire was listed. I completely understand that and I sincerely expressed that to Gerald, but the least that he can do is acknowledge the fact that they also made the mistake of giving me the wrong product even after I followed the instructions that THEY gave me. The money wasn't the issue here, but what if it was? What if I was a customer who couldn't afford another set of chains? You guys are really going to let a customer risk their lives because YOU gave them the wrong product? read more

Convenient place for gas/food/drinks before and after the Mt Whitney hike.

When I stopped here the gas prices were a few cents cheaper than the other stations in town but the bathrooms were FILTHY.

I pass through here either on my way from Nor Cal to So Cal, or vise versa. It's a pleasant station with friendly people that work there. It has a decent sized convenient store with anything you would really want from a gas station. read more

Stopped here for gas late on December 28th 2016. The pump was running extremely slow and then the automatic shut-off didn't work and poured gas all over my car, creating a pool of flammable liquid underneath it-- with my wife and two month old in the car! When I brought this safety issue to the female attendant's attention, she had no empathy and said it was probably due to the cold. Her demeanor and condescending reply left a strong impression that she was already well aware of this issue. When I asked her how I could clean the gas off of my vehicle, she didn't seem to care and suggested that I get some paper towels out of the bathroom. I will never visit this location again and can't express enough how deeply disappointed I was in the staff and the lack of concern for customer's safety. read more

Im giving them a five star because their bathrooms are extremely clean. A GREAT REST STOP FOR TRAVELERS.
