I cannot recommend them highly enough. Going back to high school, I had a terrific experience working with Advantage on my college entrance exams. Even though I hated studying in school, I genuinely enjoyed working with AT's teachers. Aside from being gifted instructors, they are some of the friendliest people you'll meet, and they seem to genuinely care about their students. I remember they customized a study plan for me, focusing on the areas of the test that I needed to improve the most. Following their plan, and using the strategies I learned in class, I earned a 760 Verbal, 750 Math I, 790 Writing, and an 800 Math II, all a significant boost above my diagnostic scores (which I recall being in the low ~600 range). Years later, when I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer, and began looking for the right LSAT test prep service, turning to Advantage was a no-brainer. On my first LSAT practice test, I received a diagnostic evaluation in the 55th percentile. I knew that I would need a significant (aka Elle Woods-level) jump in my LSAT score to have a decent shot at the top schools. That's when Advantage came in. Studying with Advantage tutors, you learn to break down each section of the test into a set of consistent techniques, which you hone and solidify over repeated practice tests. After months of test prep, I took the LSAT and scored a 99th percentile on the official exam. Equipped with a great LSAT score, I was admitted to my top choice for law school, a feat that had seemed impossible only a few months prior. Now, as a practicing attorney looking back on it, I am certain I would not have been nearly as well prepared with any other test prep service. In sum, I don't think there is anyone as professional or effective as Advantage when it comes to the hard work of preparing for high-stakes entrance exams. I recommend them without hesitation.

Genius Prep was described to me as Kumon meets Chuck e Cheese. I'd say that's an accurate…read moredescription (and a million dollar idea). Lance, the founder, is not only an engaging and potent math teacher (and I say this after blowing through 5 math teachers in an attempt to find "the one" for my teenage daughter), but he is goal oriented and authoritative. He was the first teacher who had a plan and told ME how and when he was going achieve the goals. So far we are on target. I am referring to Lance as a teacher as opposed to a tutor because I believe there is a distinction. A tutor helps students with what they don't understand in school (or to prepare for a test). A teacher goes beyond "tutoring" and knows WHAT needs to be taught and has efficient and varied methods and a curriculum. A great teacher is much harder to find than a great tutor. The closest comparison to Genius Prep is Kumon. Both are what I refer to as "after schooling" or "caulking." They go beyond "tutoring/homework help" and are intended to shore up foundational skills to the point of automaticity (not something most schools do). Kumon moves a student up to the next level after the student passes a test to prove mastery (speed and accuracy). Lance tests for mastery too. My daughter must achieve an 85% or higher on the state exam before he'll move her along to the next level. Hallelujah. I don't want to hear from my daughter that she gets it. I want to see the results...from a test. I'm a huge fan of Kumon and somehow managed to convince my teenage son to do 20 minutes of Kumon worksheets for an entire year (and he had his best math year ever), but there wasn't a lot of "fun" involved; there was a lot of whining (him) and cajoling (me). Lance adds fun into the equation at Genius Prep. Half of the center is working space (i.e. quite rooms with desks) and the other half is a game room (think Chuck e Cheese). After students complete their work they can take a break and play fussball or video games or basketball, etc. What a novel idea! And there are prizes and snacks too (and do not underestimate the magic of this. I've heard my daughter refer to those juice boxes a surprising amount of times and she seems to be motivated by those little toys, which sort of surprised me). Sessions are 90 minutes long with a 10 minute break in the middle and are very reasonably priced. It's intense work but with a high level of joy. Incidentally, I believe "learning" can be fun too, though it's just hard to convince students of this because most have experienced so many un-engaging teachers that they don't believe it. My 16-year-old daughter actually likes going to Genius Prep to learn math. I never thought I'd write those words. I was shooting for "she'll do it without much complaining."

Vivvi is the new management for the preschool formerly run by Trinity Church, but the team and…read morefacility are basically the same. It's the best daycare in Tribeca, and we joined after leaving another which was just fine but not great. Our older daughter started at Trinity/Vivvi in 2018 and now our younger daughter is there in the infants class. The teachers and administrators are the most considerate and thoughtful, and the facility is laid out for a child-led, montessori type experience. The best thing about Vivvi/Trinity is that there's a healthy balance between focusing on the needs of working parents and centering a rich, engaging experience for the kids. For your child, you want a clear lesson plan with good structure and lots of play, and as a parent, you want flexible hours and good communication. Other daycares in the neighborhood have more one or the other, but here you get both. This isn't to say that there are little hiccups; there are little things everywhere. But our teachers run their own classrooms and have things like the health insurance that are not common in other early child education. You can feel the difference. We wanted our children to be able to read, write and understand spanish in a conversational way. It was important that we could walk into a restaurant where the servers primary language was Spanish and they could order 100% in Spanish. Where they could go back to their public school Spanish classes and have amazing confidence, speak and understand better than most of the class. All About Spanish did this for us. Amazing staff. Great facility. Our daughter's lives have been positively impacted by our decision to send them here.
