    the menu for the restaurant

I wanted a Philly Cheese Steak and some fried rice. I am glad that I came here. This place did not disappoint. This area does not have a lot of places open after 9PM and that is shocking to me. This place had my carry out order ready in 10 minutes. Good hot food. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with onions, peppers, and mushrooms. I got the small Chicken Fried Rice. All the food tasted good and it was a reasonable price. I want to come back for a large fried rice.

Chicken cheesesteak w/onions,peppers, mushrooms. Staying up the road at the Doubletree .... smell consumed the lobby!

4 stars for tasty wings. Not sure I'd consider them great, but they are good. I think most longtime Atlantans like this place because of the nostalgia factor. International Cafe has existed on Buford Highway since 1983! (It's almost as old as me.) This restaurant is located in a small nondescript strip just north of N Druid Hills Rd and the Pink Pony. The inside is dimly lit with casual, open floor, table seating. I guesstimate the interior can seat about 40-50 people tops. It's an old, no frills kind of joint with a few big TVs tuned to sports. This place suffices as a simple sports bar. They serve beer. International Cafe is known for its wings. They come in 5 flavors: mild, medium, hot, lemon pepper, and teriyaki. 10 wings costs $7.99, 20 $15.79, and 50 $37.99. What's not mentioned on the menu is you can get 15 wings for $12.78. You can get up to 2 different flavors in the 10, 20, and 15-piece meals and at least 3 different flavors in the 50-piece. Other food served includes sandwiches and burgers (e.g. fried chicken sandwich, pastrami, Reuben, meatball sandwich, steak and chicken Phillies, cheeseburger), fried fish, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken fingers, and sides like fries and onion rings. Everything is affordably priced with no single item (aside from 15 or more wings) costing more than $8.99. I've tried 4 wing flavors: medium, hot, lemon pepper, and teriyaki. The medium, hot, and teriyaki wings are wet (with sauce) while the lemon pepper are dry. The hot wings are significantly spicier than the medium wings. I love spicy food and I would not consider the hot wings here very spicy. They definitely have a kick to them, but I can keep eating them with no noticeable buildup of heat. In other words, they aren't overly spicy. I think the lemon pepper and teriyaki flavors are terrific. The lemon pepper wings have a mouthwatering combination of salty, peppery, and zesty (mostly salty, but in a good way). The teriyaki wings are sweet and savory. These wings fare better cold/cooler than the hot/spicy wings which are best eaten hot/warm. Overall quality of the wings and meat is A-OK. All wing orders come with a small amount of celery sticks and either blue cheese or ranch dipping sauce. Sides I've tried include the fries and onion rings. They're both par for the course. The fries are steak fries (thick cut fries). The onion rings are big with lots of crispy, crunchy, crumbly batter. Service is speedy and the staff is friendly. Like a lot of other wings places, International Cafe is built for takeout orders. They have boxes stacked high ready to go be filled.

You can find the International Cafe at 3066 Buford Highway NE, Atlanta, GA 30329 in the same strip mall as one of my previous reviews for China Feng. Parking is out front and there's plenty so no worries, it was also not very busy during at 8:00 PM when our group paid a visit. I had heard from friends that the International Cafe was a great place for wings so was eager to try it when John F announced it as the next stop for our Buford Highway Restaurant Crawl group. I arrived a bit early and grabbed a couple of tables and was joined shortly by others. International Cafe is a mom-and-pop place with a very limited menu and lots of beer options. The girl behind the counter took our orders and we waited about 10 minutes for the food to arrive - since I got there early I ordered a Philly cheese steak because I wanted to try something different and figured I'd share it out. I also ordered a Sweetwater IPA. Others arrived shortly 8:00 and we took a look at the menu to decide what to order for appetizers and meals. For apps we got the Potato Skins (bacon - Bacos? - and melted cheese) and Onion Rings. The skins were pretty marginal and I wouldn't recommend them. The onion rings were good but probably the pre-breaded frozen type you order from restaurant supply companies, filling but nothing special. The Philly was tasty but not a real Philly but that may just be me being a food-snob. For entrees we ordered a grilled cheese sandwich (for the vegetarian), a burger with steak fries (wasn't very good) and an assortment of wings spitting up one order between the teriyaki and lemon pepper and some extra spicy hot wings. The standout here are the wings - these are all deep fried well and remind me a bit of the wings you can get at American Cafe. The extra hot were hot but not terribly so and the texture was good if you like the extra-fried style - which I do. They are on the smallish side, typical of places like Cafe Hot Wing 2 on Chamblee-Tucker. Our server, who also manned the counter, was very sweet and very accommodating keeping us full of beer and drinks. The owners are very lucky to have her. In general I can see why people like to come here - the beer and food is very cheap, the atmosphere very neutral and the dining room clean. The food is nothing special but I would stick with the wings and forego the appetizers and burgers. (also posted to my food blog)

Maybe it's just me... maybe. But I was truly not impressed with the wings. The lemon pepper had an inquiring taste to it, and the hot wings weren't really that hot at all and lacked sauce. The flavor itself was just average. Not sure why or how these wings receive so much praise, they're average at best. The customer service was great, which is why I'm giving 3 stars, but the wings alone were a 2 out of 5. Not bad but I've had better wings at wingstop.

The wings were all well seasoned, and even the dry rub wings didn't taste dry. It tasted tender and juicy and I've never experienced that before with dry rub wings. We ordered the lemon pepper buffalo wings, buffalo wings, and Korean bbq buffalo wings and a side of fries. Our favorite was the buffalo wings. It had the right balance of juiciness and flavor. I wouldn't recommend the Korean bbq wings since it didn't have enough tangyness to it and didn't stand out. The French fries are a must order. The fries were so crunchy, and they were still crunchy even towards the end when we were almost finished eating. We arrived 30 minutes before they opened on a Friday and there were already people waiting in the lot which was crazy! It started raining while we were waiting in line and the line got even longer. If you're planning to try The Local, I would recommend coming on a regular weekday or come earlier if you're coming on the weekend because the line is crazy. There is some seating inside and outside the bar. We got there early enough to swipe a table. There were people standing and waiting for a table while waiting for their orders. Service was excellent! Tables are first come first serve. Plenty of parking in the back parking lot. I wouldn't wait in the rain for this but it was definitely worth a try!

We arrived there exactly at 5 PM, when it opens, but there was already a pretty extensive line. A little outside the entrance, they check your ID, which I had no idea was a thing. So make sure you have your IDs with you and are 21+. There's a bar area for drinks and a separate counter where you will order and pay for your food. (They make it pretty explicit that you can't get wings to-go.) Find a seat, and once your food is ready, they'll announce your name, and you pick up your food from the window. FOOD: We got wings in the flavors of lemon pepper (dry rub), sun-dried tomato (dry rub), buffalo lemon pepper (wet), and jerk buffalo (wet). I will say that I definitely preferred the wet wings to the dry wings. I found the dry wings to be a little too salty. In my opinion, the wings and the cook on them were just okay. I wasn't blown away or anything. Maybe the relatively cheap beer and the vibes help draw in all the appeal. TLDR// I don't think I had the greatest wings of all time here, but the vibes were really casual and pleasant. I'm glad I was able to try a place so beloved by locals.

I can't speak to how busy it is during peak hours but 4pm was a great time to visit! Not too busy at all. The service was great, we sat on the patio, our waitress was super attentive and sweet. They were big mushrooms, with a tasty batter, and horseradish sauce which was interesting to pair together. I had the slice of pizza, it was huge, I love that you can add toppings, it was fresh and tasty, the crust was DELICIOUS. My husband had the stromboli which comes with a side of marinara sauce, which I had to steal some for my pizza crust, it was such tangy and bright marinara, the Stromboli was loaded with filling and cheese, it was so delicious. That's heavy praise. I came here with an Atlanta native and she knew what to do, what to order, what to drink, and where to sit. If you come here as an out-of-towner, you need to come with a native. They know how to navigate these waters. Being a bar, I needed to start with a drink. No need to be cute. Go with an easy well and keep 'em coming. For me, that meant rum & Coke. No surprises. Decently strong. Moderate ice. Every time. Done. Knowing that a liquid diet of this sort (with work in the morning) was a bad idea, my colleague opined that we needed food. The menu is very large and I didn't know where to start. She did -- and did. We ordered wings and fries. But these weren't your big chain wings and fries. The wings -- because we're in Atlanta -- were (of course) lemon pepper. They were meaty, seasoned (!!!), fried just hard enough to have crisp & snap, and (best of all) were not dried out. Atlanta knows how to do wings. The fries were of the shoestring variety but they were flavored with bbq seasoning. Crazy.Good. I couldn't stop eating. I think we went through three orders.* And that was a good thing because while others were hung over the next morning, I was dewey fresh. *It wasn't just the two of us... but it could have been.
