Marking it a 5 because it does a very good job at what it is trying to be, A neighborhood bakery!!! Most of it's products are for the Mexican neighborhood. Although they also have other items. I have a habit of buying too much then not eating it while fresh. Can't really tell you what to try as everyone's preferences are different. My friend likes the twinkie look alikes and the strawberry cake. I have a few favorite and tend to try 1 thing different. To be honest some of their pasties are too doughy for me. Like cheese & meat filled goodies and cakes and pastries of all sorts. There is so much variety you'll not know how to narrow down your choices. I don't even know the names of everything we got but there wasn't anything I didn't like. My favorite of which was this ring of dough filled with cheese. The contrast of sweet and savory was insanely good. My two favorite food groups: dairy and dough! This little bakery in the middle of the 24th street "Mexico town" strip of Omaha serves up some tasty carbs that can serve as breakfast, snack, or dessert. They have a few chilled desserts and do catered cakes, Mexican pastries, doughnuts, cake and a few savory treats. I have tried it various times from other people, and finally came myself. I have only found one thing I really like-it's the ding dong copy-cat cupcake, which I am pretty sure is not Mexican? The breaded desserts are drier than I am used to, and I don't prefer that-I love baked goods to be moist. Unless you grew up with these types of pastries or speak Spanish, many of the intricacies and specialness of these pastries may be lost on you. I know I certainly felt that way. Overall, this is a great friendly local bakery serving up some amazing smells and varied products. I feel guilty for a three star review, since everyone else I know is enamored! If this was an Asian bakery, I would probably be writing the 5 star review and someone else would have lesser affection. Yes you should come here. Is that a good enough review? I mean that pretty well sums it up, okay so... This place is cheap and filled with a never ending variety of treats. They make different things each day, and have a few normal favorites on the menu. They are constantly baking things fresh throughout the day, so if what you like isn't there, they can typically tell you when they'll have it. I have tried just about everything they have and nothing was absolutely terrible, although I do have a couple favorites. The bisecleta de queso (which I totally spelled wrong) is a round pastry that is $2.50 and is filled with cheese. It's the second most expensive pastry but worth the try. At first I thought it was weird to eat cheese with sugar, now I like it a bit too much. The creme empanada is amazing too and only 50¢, palm hearts (crispy pastry shaped like an ear or a heart... they say it's old people pastry lol), and if they have the taco de queso (it's a log shaped white pastry filled with cheese) give it a try. It's like the other one only cheaper and I think has more cheese. Half of the staff are bilingual and MORE than helpful if you need it. They also make custom cakes, sell bolillos (which make a heck of a sandwich!), and yes you should come here. I think they might take credit cards now (although I'm not 100% on that one), but cash is best, and like others have said You'd be hard pressed to spend $10 or more without buying a mountain of sugary yummys. read more

Right now they have trays and tongs by the door so you know noone else has touched what you are grabbing (except for the bakers of course). If I could 6 star this place I would. It is still operating in a safe manner during COVID. You go in, grab tongs and a tray and go around grabbing the pastries and bread you want. It has a great selection of yummy options! And all fresh off the oven if you go in the right times! And it sooooo cheap. This is a danger to anybody trying to cut carbs. The bread is so tasty and so good. The croissants are huge and very doughy. The doughnuts are nuts!! I miss having pan dulce and decided to visit this Mexican bakery after finding it on Yelp. This bakery is located in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood and highly popular among the locals. Like many Mexican bakeries, the protocol consists of picking up a tray and tong by the entrance, and survey around the large interior to gather the choices before paying at the cashier. The vibe is family friendly as the adults were piling the colorful breads onto their platters while small children used the open floor to roam between the glass displays. I couldn't resist the sweet aroma in the air, and got a Chocolate Concha, Strawberry Concha, Pan Fino, and Cema for 50 cents each. Everything seems bigger in the Midwest and these breads were no different. Dense, buttery, and sugary summed up the visit, as they were good fillers throughout the day. I didn't care for the Pan Fino since it tasted more like a stiff biscuit with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top. However, the Conchas had a nice cinnamon flavor and the eggy star anise qualities in the Cema really stood out. Cema is typically used in sandwiches so I thought the challah and brioche-like textures could be a good ingredient for burgers, sandwiches, and even eggs benedicts. While I understand the reasons this bakery is so popular, I also thought the breads lacked the soft spongy textures that I had experienced in other panaderias. Service was kind, friendly, and responsive. The turnover rate for their pan dulce is high, so interested visitors can always take a quick peek next door to see how they're made. You can literally get a ton of breads/cookies/donuts/cream rolls/coffee cakes under $10. Second best part- The bakes are always flying off the shelves, so everything you get is very fresh. After eating six-plus tacos from three separate taquerias, the last thing I thought I needed was a tray full of baked goods. But I was wrong. The most recent taco tour led our group of Yelpers here. They have a pretty wide variety here at International Bakery, and they always come out with something new every single day. They usually (85% of the time) have chocolate chip cookies & sweet bread here as well as spanish cheesecake, corn muffins, cookies with strawberry jelly, chocolate donuts and much more. A lot of times they will sell cooked meat/bread products such as empanadas with meat & vegetables stuffed in them, as well as chorizo rolls that have spicy meat & cream cheese stuffed inside of them. At one point they were selling some italian bread - it was very good; it's too bad they haven't sold it in a long time. You can get a soda or a gatorade at the front desk before paying as well. This place is such a cute little bakery. You first walk in and it smells absolutely divine. I don't speak and Spanish which is fine because it is self-serve and you just grab what you want. The one downside is that there isn't labels on the containers so you don't really kno what your getting unless you've had it before. But I picked out five items and each one was better than the next. It was hard not to skip around gleefully grabbing warm pastries of all types... breads, doughnuts, croissants and other indistinguishable offerings. I settled on some kind of filled item and hoped it was sweet - after all this was just a minor pit stop on a 5 restaurant tour - and was rewarded with lemony sweet goodness (shared amongst our group) for something like $0.50. Okay, I am impressed by the International Bakery on 24th Street. It is pretty nondescript from the outside, but what a place once you are inside. There is a huge selection of bakery goods piled...yes literally piled on trays and shelves inside. Tip - The bakery is a cash only establishment. No debit or credit cards and no ATM inside the business. Once you are inside, grab a cafeteria tray and a set of tongs and the game is on. Pick whatever you wish and stack your tray high. There are donuts, pastries, breads stuffed with cheese, chorizo and other tasty treats, and cookies...oh and cakes and puddings, etc, etc. The employees speak predominantly Spanish, but there is English as well, so don't let that discourage you from going. Oh, and the price is very.....very...inexpensive. We got a bag of goodies about 12 items and the price was only $6.75. No where else you can go and get fresh bakery items this cheaply. I don't go often as I live out of state and when I am in town I stay mainly west, but when I'm in the area I usually try to stop. You walk in, grab a tray and a tongs, (I question the cleanliness of the tongs as they're right by the door for everybody to touch as I watched a small toddler touching all of them) then you pile on as many baked goods as you want, pay, and leave! Everything is super cheap, it's all self serve so you can take as much or as little time as you need deciding on what you want, and the check out line goes quickly as well. Whenever I'm visiting Omaha this bakery is always the first and last place I visit. The quality, variety, and price of the baked goods are unmatched. I've only tried the baked goods but they also have a cold case with flan, cake, and other goodies. Some of my favorites are: The strawberry coconut pinwheels (Niño Envuelto or YoYo, if i recall correctly), Orejas (elephant ears), one similar to the Orejas but oval (super crispy with caramelized edges), and the bear claw like pastry with pineapple filling. Whenever work brings me to Omaha, I get really excited because it means I get to visit this lovely bakery. read more

It doesn't matter where I live, I will travel miles to get to this place. I have not found another bakery in Omaha that compares to the location on 24th & P. When I had questions in the past, the owner, Francisco, was so nice. I have been going here since the store first opened and it just continues to get better. I love all the varieties of bakery here. My favorite is the Pay de Queso or Mexican Cheesecake. I also love the Marranitos, the soft gingerbread pig cookies. My list could go on and on! When the COVID first started, you could order online and then pick up the bakery at a back window, but it's pretty much back to business now. You must wear a mask in the store. You have the option to sanitize your tray and tongs before you go through the line. One thing that I have always loved about this store is their decorations at Christmas time and Valentine's Day. I love the big Christmas tree and the big balloons, so I will add some of those pictures to my review. I appreciate the thought that they put into those.
