As a lifetime Erie resident I'm not going to lie, I gave it an extra star for nostalgia. Like most people said, they're not the friendliest bunch, but not necessarily rude. The bread is amazing. Cannolis, best in town. Pizza so good. Keep in mind, the earlier you go the better selection and quality. I mentioned being a lifetime resident and have enjoyed their food since I was a child. My grandfather used to go every weekend when I was growing up. As soon as they opened without fail. Without giving my age, it's been decades and their quality has been consistent. Service was poor. I asked for a BOX of assorted cookies. They were all pileda bag. bag. Then all my multiple bags thrown in a bigger bag. No regard for the fragile goods that were in each bag. Pizza shells and pepperoni balls are great Cakes are not good The lemon and raspberry Cakes squares are a waste. Only coconut dust and color painted on them. No flavor whatsoever. I will save my cake purchases for Little Italy in Cleveland. The bakeries there make them the same as the old time coconut cakes squares. Chocolate, lemon and raspberry jelly coating and lots of fluffy coconut. It's a hollow shell of what it used to be. Display cases bare, prices higher, quality doesn't seem to be there. Just basic pastries, nothing fancy or ethnic. I felt bad that a customer had to be turned away because they didn't accept EBT. How do they not? read more

Great little bakery in the Little Italy district of Erie. It was my first time in here and apparently after reading other reviews, this place looks like it has gone through some renovations. We snagged a couple of garlic pepperoni rolls, a large cannoli and two lemon squares. Wowza. Will come back for sure!! read more

If you are looking for a hole in the wall in Erie for freshly baked goods at an affordable price and irresistible smells, you need to check out the International Bakery. Located on 18th Street between Cherry and Liberty, it's not the most picturesque location, but don't let that fool you. We came in looking for a few dozen baker rolls and everything was hot and fresh for us in no time. We also got a pepperoni loaf (for just $2) after hearing another customer rave about it. I started buying bread at International Bakery after I had bad experiences (quickly turning moldy, no taste) with supermarket breads. We started using International's Italian bread for sandwiches, and also bought some of their pepperoni balls, which are excellent and full of lots of pepperoni. I'm very happy with the quality and pantry life of International's breads. Won't go back to buying supermarket bread again. read more

This place used to be a gem! The customer service borders on rude and that was ok with me because the food was really good. In the last few years I find my self more and more disappointed in what I buy while prices keep going up. I realize it's a rough neighborhood and they probably deal with the crazies but....yeah, no! Meh-- OK that was polite. This place was a disappointment. Baking is difficult work--at least make it good! I bought 3 items at this bakery: a Napoleon, 2 pecan tarts and some anise pizzelles. The items weren't cheap and the customer service was so-so. The Napoleon was stale and should never have been sold. The puff pastry was pie dough-ish--and soggy and stale at that! The pecan tartlets were so thick crusted that the dough overwhelmed the tart filling. The pecans were indistinguishable. I ended up throwing them away. Am relieved I didn't buy them for a dinner or to serve to someone. The pizzelles were shrink wrapped with a "best by" date of 11 months from now so at least they weren't stale. They did taste pretty institutional though. A small independent bakery has to really shine when there are other alternatives in town. This place and the staff were just too tired and uninterested in their product. The customer service was lackluster and the baked goods were in need of serious rotation! There was a small and really sad and dreary deli section too but honestly, I won't be back with the alternatives available. read more

Came here to get cookies to finish off my cookie tray gifts. Very disappointed with rude service, employee not being able to answer simple questions, and acted put out. When I got home with the 4 dozen I purchased, one dozen was only 10 cookies, (seriously at 9.99 a dozen to cut order short), and then could not use them as they were all scorched on the bottom and hard as a brick. All the rest were crumbling as I tried to put them on trays, so they were ruined and not usable. Pepperoni balls are a twist of sweet and spicy, and amazing. Italian cookies and pastries are completely authentic Italian. Bread is old school. The aroma is wonderful and the staff very helpful. You feel good visiting here and walk out with more than you wanted but happy none the less. read more

I lived in Erie years ago, but haven't lived in the area for quite some time. I use to enjoy going to International Bakery. This past visit, I waited 15 minutes for the family in front of me to finish their order. Not because they took long, but because the two women working behind the counter wouldn't stop talking, even though there ended up to be five other customers in the store. When one of the women finally managed to break free, she had such an attitude problem. I had several items I wanted. With every item I ordered, her response was an irritated sigh and "What else?" She made me so uncomfortable, I finally said I was done, even though I wanted more. When I asked if they took credit cards, she sighed loudly and said, "if I have to." Wow. I try to support local businesses as much as possible. I saw the great reviews for this place so I was excited to give it a try. I walked in and was immediately overcome by wonderful sights and smells. I explained to the younger woman behind the counter that it was my first time there and I was a bit overwhelmed. An older woman "helped" me. She was rude and seemed put out that she had to wait on me. I was looking at the pies and pointed to one and asked if it was blueberry. She said I don't know it's some kind of berry. I asked if they have blueberry pie, she says I don't know. REALLY? Did she work there or did they just pull someone off the street? Very disappointed!!! So sorry to put her out. No worries I will not be putting her out again. I will not be going back. I did get a loaf of bread and cannoli's, they were good, nothing spectacular. read more

International Bakery is the best! I moved from Erie 9 years ago, but IB is at the top of my list to go to when I visit! I got all my bread for a large family reunion several years ago, and they did an awesome job on recreating our family crest on the delicious cake I ordered! Love all their baked goods! They are always friednly and helpful. Their cakes are delicious, heavy (haha) and when putting it in my car to take home it just makes my entire care smell like buttercream frosting! I was born in Erie and would walk to the International bakery and get a strawberry tart... I fondly remember eating this while walking back home - moved away and came back YEARS later and it was so nice to see that it was still there!! It is nice to see a little piece of originality among the big businesses taking over everywhere! Also for the one comment about credit cards... they have never taken credit cards =) So this person must be talking about some other bakery. read more

If you can stop by when they open at 9 am and the so very fresh pepperoni rolls are just out of the oven-soo good! Nice deli too.
