A stop at Romolo's is a MUST when in Erie. It's a staple for a reason. The chocolates are too tier- get there early for chocolate covered grapes and strawberries. The cafe side has homemade ice cream, cookies and delectable drink options. The sponge candy ice cream is the best hands down. Don't leave without getting a few cookies and a brownie to take home with your coffee. Any coffee option won't be a disappointment and they do have frozen hot chocolate which is very rich read more

Every single item they have for sale is great! The milkshakes are decadent. The sponge candy is divine. I am from the Buffalo, NY area and their sponge candy beats any place in Buffalo. Every time I come to Erie I stop by and usually drop at least a $50. read more

1st time visiting the store. Nice selection of candies/chocolate's. The store is broken into 3 sections: drinks/ice cream to the left, gift shop/memorabilia in the middle and chocolate to the right. They have cute little tables outside and a nice drink menu. The hot chocolate made with their chocolate was very good, very rich...I could barely finish my 8 ounces. The service was fast which was good because we were pressed for time. The sponge candy is heavenly. Just bought individual little bags because I could way overindulge if I bought the big bag. Definitely worth a trip! If in the area please do yourself a favor and stop for a sweet treat. read more

Romolo's is a must-visit. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with an Americano and a half-and-half cocoa and coffee, and the quality was top-notch. It's not just the delicious chocolates and coffee that keep us coming back, but the exquisite service--the staff makes every visit feel special. A wonderful local treasure. read more

Loved the hot mocha with cookie as I lounged in a nice soft chair... then checked their store and bought some dark chocolate! This is the only Romolo's so I can see how people zero in on shopping for chocolate here! read more

Every holiday means a stop at Romolos for sponge candy and neat gifts for either our family in Charlotte or Pittsburgh. The TSA personnel always comment on the bags of sponge candy neatly paced in our carry-ons. We should bring them a bag to share with their fellow TSA staff. read more

Visited while traveling, recommended by our waitress at our hotel, she said we HAD to try the sponge candy, she was right, it was delicious, not like anything we've ever had! We preferred the dark chocolate but the milk chocolate was tasty too. We visited early in the morning and were waited on promptly; the consultant that waited on us was very helpful! Lots to choose from, 3 sections to the store; all clean and well lit, it's huge! read more

I stopped in on a hot day with a local friend of mine. Walking in, I really thought this was going to be too pricy but it wasn't too bad. Being the first time, we had lots of questions and the gal behind the counter was more than happy to help us out. We both walked away with delicious personal scoops and our own individual toppings and it didn't take long to finish off the desserts. The place is beautifully decorated and air-conditioned inside (we didn't want our ice cream to melt) and once we threw out our trash, we perused the other sections of the spot: a cute little shop of merchandise and a chocolatier's room full of all kinds of choco combinations. Overall just very cool to visit! read more

Must see in Erie!! I love that the chocolate/icecream bakery side is right next door. There's an incredible amount of chocolates available. They make great souvenirs!! The texture of the sponge chocolate is pretty interesting. They have a pretty extensive hot chocolate menu - yum! Great stop before heading out to view the Lake!! read more

Stopped in for dessert today w our dear friends who shared your creamy almond ice cream; hubby enjoyed his new fave-chocolate sundae w hot fudge and real whipped cream; my choice was my typical fave-1/2 scoop of Sponge candy and 1/2 scoop of pb meltaway in a sugar cone. We sat a while and visited, commenting on the always charming and immaculately clean shop tended by competent staff. Dependably clean and delish chocolates and ice cream made in house with the freshest ingredients available. Hoping lots of Blues and Jazz I attendees enjoyed a sweet treat! read more

I would have given it a five or even six stars, but I found hair on my daughter's ice cream bowl and they did nothing. Anyway, the location and building was great! A whole bldg subdivided into 3 (choco store, merchandise/souvenir store and cafe) or 4 if including the outdoor dining. I was just looking for an Erie fridge magnet but they don't have one. I love chocolates so it was exciting for me. We tried the affogato, grandpa romulo's fave choco, coffee, ice cream and more molded chocos! I love the smoothness of their milk candies. It's a great place to buy Erie stuff. read more

Their chocolate is super rich! Very nice ambiance and obviously, good smells. Their coffee bar is decent as well. I would come back here to take someone from out of town for the ambiance and a sweet treat. read more

Chocolate is super good, shop has cool stuff - coffee sucked. We bought a pile of chocolate and it's all good. Bought some decor things - very cool. I got one of their coffee specials as an ice coffee - was made fresh - it was just terrible. I drink several coffees a day everyday and I am not picky on coffee - but I will stick with their chocolate and skip the coffee shop. read more

Love the chocolate go for all holidays and in between usually get some and take to Arizona as well when headed out there

Oh my gosh, their dark chocolate on their sponge candy is amazing! It tastes like a really good hot cocoa. We stopped in and checked out the chocolate shop and bought a few items. Then we headed over to the coffee shop where we enjoyed some treats. I got an Affogatto which was good though I felt like it didn't need the hot fudge. Another companion ordered a milkshake and loved it. Another person ordered coffee which was good. read more

Wife and I found this while in town for the Strongman Nationals. The shop is beautiful and selection is almost overwhelming, I had to refrain from "one of everything" when it was time to order. DROOL. Whenever I go to Erie I love to come here for the samples, the smells, and to get my chocolate fix. I love it here. Now, as a side note, it is not cheap at all. I think that it is a good thing that I do not come all the time because the chocolate here is expensive. It is good, but I would not get it for everyday chocolate snacking because of the price. The place when you walk in is currently decorated for the holidays. It is beautiful and just open. You can see the workers in their white uniforms working in the back and it is really fun. I cannot believe that the workers are able to keep their uniforms so clean while working in the back. It is a testament to their proficiency for sure. What I always get when I am here. 1) Something for my nephews. Usually I like to get them anything dinosaur shaped. This time i got them a dinosaur riding a bike that was filled with peanut butter. They liked it, it was fun, and pretty cute too! 2) Sponge candy. This time I went for the bag of the dark chocolate sponge candy. My first time trying it out so I hope for the best. I love their sponge candy, something that they are really known for, and dark chocolate is always a delight so I went with it. 3. Dark Chocolate covered espresso beans. This is also a must have when I come here. I love to nibble on these and they are great for a little pick me up. I also like to be fancy and serve them with a side of coffee. That way people can have a little extra when they take a sip. Caffeine from the chocolate and from the coffee, what else could be better. So then, when you are done with the chocolate side you go through the double doors and enter a little shop where you can buy souvenirs, candles, etc. I sometimes like to check out the Erie paraphernalia because it is nice to sometimes have a slice of home down here in the 'Burgh. I have also bought some cute little Christmas ornaments in this shop. Then you go through another door and boom you are in their cafe. They have seating, they have tables, they have couches, they have ice cream, they have drinks, they have snack. Just a little yum for your drive or your sit and talk. I got an iced tea and it was really good. My aunt got a hot coco and it was divine! I would suggest a little grab and go when you are here. Just to make the trip well rounded. I cannot wait to go back! And I cannot wait to try more of the samples!! read more

Delicious chocolate. Great assortment. Very good service. Free samples. Prices are competitive with other fine chocolates.

I travel 3 hours to get Romolos. Addicted after our first try. Hands done the best best chocolate I have had in my time one earth. The meltaways are so creamy. Our favs are peanut butter meltaways, coconut chocolate meltaways, toffeee bark and chocolate covered strawberries. We have ordered via mail and that was excellent as well. The little cafe next door has the best cookies as well. Always our first stop when we get in town. Service was good. Staff was friendly and efficient. I didn't experience any of the negative behavior I have seen in other reviews any time I've been here. Which is around 5-6 times over the last 4 years. I highly recommend Romolos. The cafe is clean and inviting. Cool little place to get a snack and cup of gourmet coffee. read more

Their chocolate ranges from 'meh' to absolutely delicious. I've had their sponge candy as well as the peanut butter cups and both are amazing. I've also had their meltaways (my mom buys them) and they're very good as well. Their regular, molded chocolate is 'meh'. I bought a shark-shaped chocolate for $1.99 and it wasn't very flavorful so my recommendation is to buy the sponge candy, meltaways or peanut butter cups. Also, at times you can buy discounted sponge candy there that is defected, physically (some pieces are either misshapen or too small or large) but it tastes just as delicious as their more expensive, "aesthetically pleasing" bags. And really - who cares what it looks like if you're going to be eating it yourself and not giving it as a gift? The staff is friendly and there are a good amount of employees working there. The selection is vast. I'm sure there are other good items here I have yet to try. The next time I go I'll ask a few employees what they recommend. read more

Loved finding this place on my first real visit to Erie recently -- this place has a chocolate shop, gift shop and cafe/ice cream shop area. I've heard multiple people say how amazing Romolo's sponge candy was, so I ordered a pound of it in milk chocolate through DoorDash, confident that I would like it. Firstly, the dasher said she had trouble picking up my order because the cashier said she needed ID, even though the order was on her phone....that was the first red flag. Anyways, that's besides the point. The reason they're getting 3 stars from me is because: 1. Corn syrup and artificial flavor. I know chocolate isn't a "healthy snack" (in general), but corn syrup and artificial flavor is a HUGE turn-off for me. You can definitely taste how artificial it is, unless you're used to eating chocolate like Reese's or Hershey's. Their website has an ingredients section talking about how they plan on going natural, but no nutritional information...wonder why... 2. The quality of the chocolate (for their sponge candy, since that was all I got) is not at all "5 star". I'd put it in the same category as edible arrangements (maybe a little less than that). The sponge center was definitely "spongey", but it didn't give the chocolate any bonus points for flavor. It just added a sponge-like center. 3. The price. $18.99 for a pound? Really?? I would've been better off getting Godiva. Overall, it was... "Okay" to say the least. These "Erie natives" have probably never left the state and as a result, they see places like Romolo and feel like they're at Maison Cailler. If you've read this far and you're new to Erie, here's some advice: Don't trust Erie people to have good judgment on the quality of ANYTHING edible (Especially if you're from another country or a southern state). I probably have a biased since I'm from Atlanta, but whatever lol. I might go to the shop myself and try something else in the future. *emphasis on might* read more
