1st time visiting the store. Nice selection of candies/chocolate's. The store is broken into 3 sections: drinks/ice cream to the left, gift shop/memorabilia in the middle and chocolate to the right. They have cute little tables outside and a nice drink menu. The hot chocolate made with their chocolate was very good, very rich...I could barely finish my 8 ounces. Visited while traveling, recommended by our waitress at our hotel, she said we HAD to try the sponge candy, she was right, it was delicious, not like anything we've ever had! I stopped in on a hot day with a local friend of mine. Walking in, I really thought this was going to be too pricy but it wasn't too bad. Being the first time, we had lots of questions and the gal behind the counter was more than happy to help us out. We both walked away with delicious personal scoops and our own individual toppings and it didn't take long to finish off the desserts. A whole bldg subdivided into 3 (choco store, merchandise/souvenir store and cafe) or 4 if including the outdoor dining. I was just looking for an Erie fridge magnet but they don't have one. Chocolate is super good, shop has cool stuff - coffee sucked. We bought a pile of chocolate and it's all good. Bought some decor things - very cool. I got one of their coffee specials as an ice coffee - was made fresh - it was just terrible. DROOL. Whenever I go to Erie I love to come here for the samples, the smells, and to get my chocolate fix. I love it here. Now, as a side note, it is not cheap at all. I think that it is a good thing that I do not come all the time because the chocolate here is expensive. It is good, but I would not get it for everyday chocolate snacking because of the price. The place when you walk in is currently decorated for the holidays. It is beautiful and just open. You can see the workers in their white uniforms working in the back and it is really fun. I cannot believe that the workers are able to keep their uniforms so clean while working in the back. It is a testament to their proficiency for sure. What I always get when I am here. 1) Something for my nephews. Usually I like to get them anything dinosaur shaped. This time i got them a dinosaur riding a bike that was filled with peanut butter. They liked it, it was fun, and pretty cute too! 2) Sponge candy. This time I went for the bag of the dark chocolate sponge candy. My first time trying it out so I hope for the best. I love their sponge candy, something that they are really known for, and dark chocolate is always a delight so I went with it. 3. Dark Chocolate covered espresso beans. This is also a must have when I come here. I love to nibble on these and they are great for a little pick me up. I also like to be fancy and serve them with a side of coffee. That way people can have a little extra when they take a sip. Caffeine from the chocolate and from the coffee, what else could be better. So then, when you are done with the chocolate side you go through the double doors and enter a little shop where you can buy souvenirs, candles, etc. I sometimes like to check out the Erie paraphernalia because it is nice to sometimes have a slice of home down here in the 'Burgh. I have also bought some cute little Christmas ornaments in this shop. Then you go through another door and boom you are in their cafe. They have seating, they have tables, they have couches, they have ice cream, they have drinks, they have snack. Just a little yum for your drive or your sit and talk. I got an iced tea and it was really good. My aunt got a hot coco and it was divine! I would suggest a little grab and go when you are here. Just to make the trip well rounded. I travel 3 hours to get Romolos. Addicted after our first try. Hands done the best best chocolate I have had in my time one earth. The meltaways are so creamy. Our favs are peanut butter meltaways, coconut chocolate meltaways, toffeee bark and chocolate covered strawberries. We have ordered via mail and that was excellent as well. The little cafe next door has the best cookies as well. Always our first stop when we get in town. Service was good. Staff was friendly and efficient. I didn't experience any of the negative behavior I have seen in other reviews any time I've been here. Which is around 5-6 times over the last 4 years. I highly recommend Romolos. Their chocolate ranges from 'meh' to absolutely delicious. I've had their sponge candy as well as the peanut butter cups and both are amazing. I've also had their meltaways (my mom buys them) and they're very good as well. Their regular, molded chocolate is 'meh'. I bought a shark-shaped chocolate for $1.99 and it wasn't very flavorful so my recommendation is to buy the sponge candy, meltaways or peanut butter cups. Also, at times you can buy discounted sponge candy there that is defected, physically (some pieces are either misshapen or too small or large) but it tastes just as delicious as their more expensive, "aesthetically pleasing" bags. And really - who cares what it looks like if you're going to be eating it yourself and not giving it as a gift? The staff is friendly and there are a good amount of employees working there. The selection is vast. I'm sure there are other good items here I have yet to try. The next time I go I'll ask a few employees what they recommend. read more

My son and I love chocolate! And we love trying chocolate from different places, so when we were in Erie PA it was no surprise we ended up at Romolo. The day we went the place was packed, although the line moved along quickly. My daughter got a rose green tea and tiramisu which she said was delish. My son and I picked up a mix of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, PB cups, gummy bears and dark chocolate pistachio bars. We've tried a bit of everything at this point and can say without a doubt everything fantastic!!! It's probably a good thing we don't live closer to Romolo, or we'd be there all the time!! The staff was super friendly and very helpful, didn't feel rushed at all despite how busy they were. The atmosphere was very quaint and really well done, could see spending a little time hanging out on the cafe side. I've heard multiple people say how amazing Romolo's sponge candy was, so I ordered a pound of it in milk chocolate through DoorDash, confident that I would like it. Firstly, the dasher said she had trouble picking up my order because the cashier said she needed ID, even though the order was on her phone....that was the first red flag. Anyways, that's besides the point. The reason they're getting 3 stars from me is because: 1. Corn syrup and artificial flavor. I know chocolate isn't a "healthy snack" (in general), but corn syrup and artificial flavor is a HUGE turn-off for me. You can definitely taste how artificial it is, unless you're used to eating chocolate like Reese's or Hershey's. Their website has an ingredients section talking about how they plan on going natural, but no nutritional information...wonder why... 2. The quality of the chocolate (for their sponge candy, since that was all I got) is not at all "5 star". I'd put it in the same category as edible arrangements (maybe a little less than that). The sponge center was definitely "spongey", but it didn't give the chocolate any bonus points for flavor. It just added a sponge-like center. 3. The price. $18.99 for a pound? Really?? I would've been better off getting Godiva. Overall, it was... "Okay" to say the least. These "Erie natives" have probably never left the state and as a result, they see places like Romolo and feel like they're at Maison Cailler. If you've read this far and you're new to Erie, here's some advice: Don't trust Erie people to have good judgment on the quality of ANYTHING edible (Especially if you're from another country or a southern state). I probably have a biased since I'm from Atlanta, but whatever lol. I might go to the shop myself and try something else in the future. *emphasis on might* read more
