The facility is large, clean and institutional. Wouldn't expect anything different. The waiting area is large, with lot's of seats. There were clean restrooms and water dispensers. You cannot bring in food/drink, no biggie. Once we arrived, I expected a decent wait time, so brought the spousey to join me and we just enjoyed each other during the wait. When we entered, not really knowing next steps, I went to ask the gentlemen in a uniform for direction behind a counter. I barely got out, Good Afternoon, I was.... well cutoff.. and told, check in at the kiosk as he pointed to the thingy to my left and went back to what was more important than helping me. Look, I feel for these folks who have these jobs. I'm sure they work with a great deal of angst from folks, not getting what they think they deserve from the system and may be the target of their discontent. However, it would be nice if he would of let me finish my statement, perhaps a smile, but not today. Hit up the kiosk, checked in, got a ticket and we sat and watched the monitor for when it was our time. As you are informed, your wait my be longer or shorter then others already in the room. Depends what you are there for. My number was called and we were greeted by a smiling agent, who took it from there. He eliminated my fears that I may have been a little late to apply, took my identification, including my Dutch birth certificate, passport and TDL to make copies. Came back, let me know I was all set and would be receiving stuff in the mail. Polite, efficient and pleasant interaction. I believe we may have been waiting 25mins. It was pretty quick IMO. We headed out and I made a point to walk out by the counter, smiled really big at the same gentlemen and thanked the dude and wished him a good afternoon. This blew him away by the look on his face, he managed a smile and wished me the same. Kill them with kindness is always a moto for me. For reference, I was there on a Friday a little after noon. After scheduling my appointment I received a text message with the appointment confirmation of the date and time and a link that allowed me to check in online once I was there. I also received an email reminder. On the day of my appointment I drove into the parking lot, parked, clicked the link that was texted to me and I was checked in and received a DPS ticket number. I then walked in, waited in a line to speak with someone working at the desk. A friendly woman checked my documents, gave me some paperwork to fill out, and then told me to sit and wait in the waiting area. I sat at a table, filled out my paperwork and waited. I waited for about an hour and a half. During my wait several people that worked there came out and made announcements. They were there to help. When they finally called out my number I was relieved that the wait was over. The woman that was working behind the counter was friendly. She checked my documents, and then told me where to stand and took my photo. I paid, she gave me my paperwork and it was done. This process went really fast and took less than 10 minutes. Overall it wasn't a bad experience it was just very time consuming. The appointment time was at 10:40 and I left at 12:20. You will wait a long time before being seen but a positive is that everyone that worked there was friendly and helpful. A side note. Be sure to take hand sanitizer and some sanitizer wipes. I used the women's restroom and they were clean but they didn't have any soap in the dispenser and the large hand sanitizer bottle on the sink was empty. So take something with you to clean your hands just in case.

My appointment was at three, I arrived a few minutes early and was out of there around 4 o'clock. The clerk that assisted me was very helpful and friendly. It was an overall successful trip and some pretty good people watching while I waited.

I ask you for your phone number and give you a ticket number and you get a text immediately. Plenty of room in the waiting area as it's wide open. Your number is queued up on TV and their PA system is loud enough where you can hear your number called. Every person that I've dealt with here has been very nice and professional and patient and courteous. Even when I have had to ask questions, they know the answers immediately, which is great. It's pretty straightforward. I like this location much better than the Airport Blvd location as it's a much more pleasant visit. The previous place was somewhat cramped, it had a very small waiting area, and sometimes you had to stand. It was also very loud and when they called your number you had to go walk through the maze of cubicles, kind of like a labyrinth. I never had any issues finding where I needed to go, but this layout here is much better and wide open, which is probably one of the reasons why they moved here. I'm not a fan of their new website which seems cleaner and less jargon, but there's too many clicks to get to your destination. Plus, it's also not that intuitive as it looks. And I'm also not happy that the State is now charging a $4.75 "fee" to renew your registration online, otherwise this would be a 5-star review. I used to pay around $55 to renew car registration but now it's $76. That's Bologna. But the worker bees here don't set the prices so it's not their fault. They just take your money and then you hear a loud "cash register chime" (cha-Ching!) soon after. I was just kidding about that - lol.

I will not state the whole story except to add that Director of Housing Operations & Policy is fair & nice man. He admitted they are not perfect and make mistakes, but aim to fix & remedy issues. Central Market is the most impressive grocery store I've seen in Austin. These are the high-end locations of the H-E-B chain, which they have one or two of in major Texas cities. As far as country dancing, progressive two-step (travelling counter-clockwise around the dance floor) can be found at Broken Spoke, and Mavericks in Buda. Mercer Dancehall was also known for this, but, unfortunately, they recently closed. Otherwise, you find the stationary, slot-style of partner country dancing at places like Donn's Depot, Jo's Coffee on South Congress, Sagebrush, and The White Horse. It's basically Austin's version of country swing dancing. Although I've enjoyed craft beer at The ABGB, I haven't yet been there during live music, when people dance. However, judging by the size of the dance area, and photos online, it looks like the predominant style of partner dancing is country swing rather than progressive two-step. Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Austin-University Area is a quality hotel that is reasonably priced, centrally located but off of the beaten path. If you're not used to driverless taxis, Waymo autonomous vehicles are widespread throughout Austin, where they have an exclusive partnership with Uber. Based on my experience at some of the most popular cafes, food truck parks, restaurants, and nightlife in Austin, the patrons are predominantly a younger crowd, in their 20s to 40s. The State Capitol has a lot of great Texas history embedded in these walls and the floors of the building. It's hard to believe my older brother had never been to the State Capitol, so we decided to visit. He was in the military for 20 years mostly overseas so we extend grace. The Texas State Capitol is one of Austin's most important landmarks. The building was completed in 1888 and houses the Texas Legislature and the Governor's offices. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark. Interestingly,, the Capitol is taller than the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

I was again greeted by a very pleasant woman who swiftly moved me through the renewal process. We had a pleasant conversation regarding my new picture and my 23 years of living in TX as opposed to Mass. I walked out at 9 AM at exactly my appointment time! Winner winner chicken dinner! This locale has plenty of parking and many DPS folks to assist. Pro tip: Make sure you bring all the required paperwork or you will be SOOLuck and have to reschedule.
