They are open Mondays through Saturdays with appointments as early as 7am. No one loves going for an annual mammogram but it's a must. Best to go to a facility where you feel well cared for with top-notch staff from technicians to radiologists. I appreciate the excellent care I have received here for many years. Also, I am a physician at in the Cambridge Health Aliance system, and wanted to go outside that system for my care so that I wouldn't encounter colleagues in the course of obtaining my care, so I picked a practice in the Mount Auburn system. I saw him for the first time last week, and was very impressed by him. It took a few months to get a new patient appointment with him, but I don't have significant health problems so that was fine. He was prompt and efficient, but quite thorough in his physical exam and review of systems (the part where they ask you questions about headaches, vision, hearing, shortness of breath, cough, etc etc). In the course of my medical training I have seen many physical exams performed on a basically healthy person that were perfunctory at best, but Dr. Shushan was methodical and complete. He had an easy manner and seemed like a nice guy, so we had a good rapport. He brought up appropriately but did not beat me over the head with what we both knew I could be doing better - diet and exercise. I felt very comfortable entrusting my care to him and if I became ill, I know he'd do a good job and treat me with dignity. My only minor complaint was with a harried nurse who was a bit short with me. After signing in by the door as a first-time patient with the staff who handled the insurance, they sent me to the waiting room, but didn't tell me I needed to check in with the folks there, so I sat down for a minute or two until a nurse came out and berated me in an annoyed voice, "You need to sign in when you get here!" I hadn't realized you needed to sign in at two separate places. She later calmed down a bit and was nicer to me once I complimented her blood-drawing skills.

I also had to wait a couple of months for an appointment as a new patient which was fine as I'm pretty healthy. I was very impressed with the quick process of getting me through the registration/reception area. His nurse was lovely and very good, and when I had my visit with him I didn't feel rushed like I've felt with other doctors in the past. Other practices treat you like cattle (sitting in various waiting rooms). He was quick to get to me once his nurse was done with the testing and did not rush through the exam. He asked me important questions to get to know me and gave me various suggestions on what to do to stay healthy. What a wonderful experience. This is how a doctor should be; knowledgeable, kind, friendly and efficient. He's my doctor from this point on!

Misleading business practices. I was told I would only need to pay $60 total for a visit, Aetna…read morespecialist fee. Got a bill for $335, because Aetna put it all in my deductible. Obviously Aetna sucks, but I never should have been told it would be a total of $60 for my visit. I should have been told it was a $60 upfront fee, but there may be a further payment required. I called and was told I should have read the entire, long contract I was handed when I arrived for my visit. It said that I was responsible for any additional costs after my insurance provider processed the bill. I *had* read that, and *had* asked the question of "how much will I actually have to pay, worst case scenario" specifically because I had read that and was worried. I was assured $60 would be all I owe. So I signed it. Probably a moment of weakness on my part, shame on me for trusting this practice. I'm now legally on the hook for $330 for a session that only led to "you need an endoscopy", when I was assured by an employee of Digestive Health Associates that I would only owe my deductible of $60. On paper DHA can claim no misleading practices (unless I had thought to record my conversation with the receptionist). So can Aetna. But no party in this supposed "healthcare" industry cared at all about me, and for that, I recommend looking elsewhere for a more ethical & caring practice.

I had never had one before, so I found it really helpful that someone sat me down and explained the whole procedure beforehand. I appreciated that. Plus, everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. It did take a long time unfortunately. My doctor had said I should be in and out within an hour, but it took about two and half hours. It's not like I was just sitting around waiting for very long, so I just have to assume that's how long these things take. Oh, and they let you pick a CD to listen to during the procedure, which made the process so much less painful. After the MRI was over, and I took off my headphones, one of the women asked, "Want me to make you a CD?" And I said, "Like a mix tape?" She laughed, "No, of your MRI." Yeah, I'm stupid.

I was dismissed as a case of anxiety with no follow on care plan. I pushed knowing something wasn't right. The doctor ran an echo cardiogram and left a VOICEMAIL that I had a minor valve issue with again no follow on care. Fast forward a few years and it turns out that diagnosis was false but I have TWO congenital defects that likely cause sudden cardiac death in patients with symptoms. By sheer luck I have survived what I should not have and I would never know if I didn't faint in the hospital and had reputable doctors that ran tests and actually treated me. the doctor at Somerville family practice treated me as if I was making it all up when I had symptoms and shamed me so much that I never wanted to even seek treatment for the incorrect valve issue. She was beyond dismissive and that almost cost me my life if it weren't for new doctors who upheld their oath. Stay far far away if you value your life.
