Locals will tell you that MGH stands for "Man's Greatest Hospital." That is the absolute truth. Since "MGH West" (now known as Mass General Waltham) opened in Waltham, about 26 years ago, Mass General has exponentially increased the number and breadth of services available there. Don't think for a minute that you're going to be seen by a "country doctor," as in rural America, at Mass General Waltham. That is absolutely not the case. MGH has brought the physicians, clinicians, technology, expertise, and high standards of its downtown "Mother Ship" on Fruit Street to Mass General Waltham. For more times than I care to admit, I have had surgery AGAIN in the Same Day Surgery Unit at Mass General Waltham. Everything I remembered about the unit proved true, once again: the care is consistently exceptional, and the kindness and professionalism of the staff are extraordinary. The consistency of care at Mass General Waltham is exactly what I would expect from a top-tier, High Reliability Organization. The facility is filled with reliable systems of care and expert clinicians--and, equally important, people who genuinely care about the patients they serve. Again, when I arrived at the Same Day Surgery Unit, I was greeted by an especially kind, welcoming, caring, professional, and efficient member of the front-desk staff. I was then escorted into the patient-only area by my pre-op nurse. From admission through discharge, I was continually impressed by the kindness, compassion, professionalism, and efficiency of every person I encountered. What is particularly striking is how much the staff seems to love working at Mass General Waltham. It felt as though everyone I met had come from the "Mother Ship" downtown and then arrived at a "Happy Place"--one that reminds me of the "Happy Island" of Aruba. Nursing was over the top--absolutely fantastic--as were anesthesia and surgery. As someone who has dedicated my career to patient safety, systems and process engineering, and High Reliability Organizations, I pay very close attention to how care is delivered. From that perspective, Mass General Waltham is exceptional. At every step of my surgical journey, there were appropriate verifications, structured handoffs, and optimal transfers--not only of me as a patient, but also of the information necessary to care for me, safely. The systems were reliable, the communication was excellent, and the people providing my care were outstanding. My care was flawless, as were the people who provided it and the systems supporting that care. I simply cannot say enough positive things about the people, processes, and quality of care at Mass General Waltham. It is a privilege to be a Mass General Waltham patient. Unfortunately, I'll be back in the operating room, again, in a few months. I am incredibly grateful--and genuinely comforted--by knowing that when I return, I will once again receive exceptional, compassionate, highly reliable care from the Same Day Surgery team at Mass General Waltham. read more

The hospital itself is good. The building is clean and well maintained, and there's adequate staffing. A family member received care here, and everything was beyond our expectations. The garage, however, is a hot mess. We entered the garage from the street entrance to go left to the green building. Then you find you're actually at the blue building entrance. This requires an elevator to the 4th floor then a bridge to the green building on foot, then to whichever floor in that building. Unfortunately, upon entering the blue building from the parking lot, there are no signs to inform you. We happened to see a janitor and asked him how to get to the green building. Wouldn't it make more sense to allow you to park near the green building? Too confusing. read more

I use MGB Waltham whenever possible. Nice facilities, free parking and the service from every practice I have visited here has been great. The lab can get backed up but wait has never been terrible. And the lobby where you wait to be called is a 2-story atrium filled with light & comfortable seating. I wish they did more here so I'd never have to go into the main MGB campus in Boston. read more

At one time this was a good place to get medical care, until Dr. Picker left the practice. When she left, no one assigned me to a different doctor so I had to fend for myself. I visited the office today to see if I could get assigned to a different M.D. and was told no one was accepting patients. I was already accepted years ago....these people (and others at MGH) are so incompetent and unprofessional they should not be working in a medical center. If you go online and read their financial reports the management is concerned their revenues are down. When they send their patients (customers) to other institutions including CVS for shots and urgent care offices which are proliferating, they should not be surprised at their declining revenues. What phonies! Some medical "professionals" are still enjoying their COVID vacations. read more

This is a MGH West - a new and rather excellent outpatient facility. To begin with, there is a free garage parking! They have a wide range of specialities, including podiatry, cardiology, a cancer center, dermatology, pediatrics, neurology, primary care, OT and PT. It's easier to obtain an appointment there than in MGH's downtown location. Consequently if you live in a western or northwestern suburb, it's your best bet for MGH care. The front line receptionist staff are happier and more patient orientated than the main downtown hospital. I speculate that this "happy" atmosphere even permeates medical appointments. It certainly has been my experience that physicians seemed more relaxed. The doctors often split their time with MGH downtown. They have an in building eatery. There is a podiatry speciality store selling lots of cool speciality products for your feet. The building is surprisingly aesthetically pleasing. It is appointed with wide and spacious hallways and this makes it particularly wheelchair friendly. You can relax in comfortable armchairs in a sunswept atrium. So it's ideal if you are accompanying a friend or family member for a medical procedure. (Parts of it remind me a a pleasant hotel lobby.) There is easy and close access to the highway - another plus for people with disabilities. Indeed the entire experience there is disability friendly! I like the elevators, they are numerous, spacious, and fast - something you will appreciate when need to leave quickly. read more

Its location in Waltham is much more convenient and they perform many types of procedures. Staff members are great.

Both my husband and I had surgeries there prior to COVID. I have to say the nurses have no understanding and patient and family needs. They don't care at all. You are a number and this is how they do things no flexibility to work with patient needs I did fill out the survey over 6 months ago and have heard nothing so clearly management does not care. Allergist was great and I can see that my child will see improvement with her eczema with the new treatment. However the lady at the blood lab was terrible!!!!! She put the needle in and out of my little girl's arm a dozen times while she was screaming and Not a word of apology. If you don't know how to draw blood you should find a new job!! Even an adult would be traumatized with this kind of experience. read more

This place is quite easy to find using the GPS. It takes 2 1/2 hrs. from Claremont NH. I have been here twice and the free parking is great. Free parking is in a parking garage. Easy in and out access. After you've parked there is no need to leave the garage because there is an inside elevator to take you to what ever floor you need to go. Once at the Dr.s office there is a nice comfortable waiting area. They have a TV but I always bring headphones and a tablet. The building offers guest WIFI, and there are electric plugs in the waiting area so I don't have to worry about low battery. There are very nice and clean bathrooms near by. read more

Plus: they have extended hours: 7-6 which is great for those of us who have tight schedules. Negatives: oh, where to begin. I've had PT enough to know that there are certian things that 'should' happen. I get that MGH is a world class facility: sadly the Waltham PT location is not. It's ok at best. My doctor had written specific orders: E-stim, massage, passive stretching. After 3 appointments, I quit. I coudln't go back and waste limited PT apointments and quite frankly a $35 co-pay for what they tried to pass as PT. Apt 1: eval (normal, no qualms. showed the pt my current home program from doc, she agreed tod me to keep doing. strange but ok). Apt 2: pt starts to yell. i asked her not to yell at me, she replies "i'm not yelling, i speak loudly when people don't understand" (ok, that's MY definition of yelling). I spend 10 minutes demonstrating my program i showed her last week. she puts ice on me, tells me to wait 10 minutes. she then leaves. um. ok? Apt 3: i point out the scrip from my doctor. she says that isn't what i need. ok, look, he is a board certified ortho, you are a pt. he's done surgery on my ankle twice. we repeat apt 2. i cancel all appoinments on the way out. issues: 20 minute apts: 10 minutes spent icing where i removed the ice myself (hi, lability!) my pt never told me her name. scrip from doctor not followed. this wasn't pt . . . it was a check in. pt told me because of my insurance she'd have to do more work. perks: free parking. look, there might be great people at this facility: so much if it IS the pt. i won't go back, i went there for convience to my office. they were not worth it. read more

Rehab. after forearm surgery at MGH. First off, I had trouble getting timely enough appointments. What I did finally get had me seeing 3 different therapists over four sessions, resulting in highly contradictory advice and rehab protocols. I think they did me no good at all and left me confused and needing to go back and talk directly with the surgeon. I cancelled all remaining appointments. I'm not sure what they do do, but it was not PT/OT for rehab. from surgery! Oh, and their billing rate is about 8x the other local PT clinics- yes, that's correct: 8x - just shy of $1000/hour! read more

Great staff! I did see 2 different therapist's durning my treatment..but, that didn't have any negative impact on my recovery. They rehabilitated me after my knee surgery, I was back at work 6wks later(it did take a lot of work on my part at home). Also I should mention that I have a job that requires me to be on my feet for 95% of my 10hr shift....so my point is they absolutely know what they're doing and deserve high praise for getting me back on my feet so quickly. Now I have a work related pinched nerve in my neck, I didn't hesitate to return to PT at MGH west. read more

Beware the front Desk. I recently saw a podiatrist at MGH West who referred me to MGH West Physical and Occupational Therapy. I was thrilled to receive a call later that morning for an appointment that same day. So I booked the appointment rearranged several meetings and left my work south of Boston - a 1 hr drive in traffic one way - to get to Waltham at the appointed hour. When I arrived they had no record of my appointment. The women I spoke to behind the desk was entirely unapologetic and told me it was not her problem and that the person who called me to come in that day was not there and so there was nothing she could do. I could do nothing but leave. They wasted 2 Hrs of my time and forced me to rearrange my schedule and then were rude to me as I stood there in their waiting room being told it wasn't their problem. Honestly I can't imagine trusting them again with anything. Beware. read more
