Intermaco is my first stop for any car issue, and has served me well time and time again. They're a chain of three shops -- most of the more advanced body shop work is done up in Columbia Heights at their largest location, so don't be fooled by the small size of this shop. They'll transport your car up and back for free and it adds almost no time. This Park Ave location is still very capable and can do most services onsite that don't require a paint shop.
I've had two minor dings repaired here and one somewhat major one: was rear-ended hard while sitting at a stoplight. Raul, one of the owners, is amazingly quick with assessing damage and telling in a straightforward way what needs to be done to fix it. I've also brought my car in for several routine maintenance items (they're not just a body shop; they are full service mechanics), and he has been honest enough to suggest I don't have some services done if they're not needed for the car. His quotes are fair (often much lower than competitors) and he stands by them to a fault. Even when he underestimated the rear-end damage for my larger repair and needed to order an entire new trunk from Ohio, he did not raise the price, and the finished work was as good as new. The car was also cleaned and detailed when I picked it up, something he definitely didn't have to do to keep my business (and doesn't do on most repairs) but which was just so nice.
In particular, Intermaco excels at body shop work on a budget. My car is fairly new and in good condition, so Raul suggested they not repaint undamaged parts of the vehicle (as many shops would insist on, to blend the color), instead taking great care to paint the new parts so that they match the rest of the car well before putting them on. Much of the cost of body work is usually this paint blending, but Intermaco's willingness to just paint the new parts has saved a good deal of money while making my car look every bit as good as new.
There have been a couple times when parts were slightly misaligned after body work (hood and gas cap, though usually everything is aligned right) and when I've pointed this out, they have promptly fixed it at no charge.
Bottom line: this is a shop that does its work exceedingly well, respects its customers, and charges fair prices. There's nowhere I trust more for car repair.
Also, most of the staff is bilingual -- Spanish and English -- so Spanish speakers will also feel comfortable here. read more
