Therefore, the bakery held a lot of nostalgia for me. I was very sad to hear they permanently closed. We visited the new Village Green Bakery today. Overall, we would say that the items we tried were good but not excellent. It is different and does not compare to Einfeld's baked goods, but we would buy things from them again if we were around there. Not sure if it would warrant a special trip to go to the bakery specifically. We tried: 1. Beach Bread - 4/5. More dense than the previous Irish loaves. Good flavor though and chewy. Fresh. 2. Sticky/Goo Buns - 3.5/5. Less gooey than previous pecan loaves, smaller, and the dough is harder and drier. Good balance of flavor though, and tastes homemade and not commercial. 3. Iced Cinnamon Buns - 3/5. Dough was better and lighter than the sticky buns, but would have preferred more filling and no icing as it made it too sweet. 4. Nutella Turnover - 3/5. Flaky and sugar crusted which was tasty. Could have used more filling - really lacking there. Just a tiny glob in the very middle. 5. Imperial/Dream Cookies - 3.5/5. Completely different than the previous dream cookies in almost every way. This used to be a staple in my order so I had really been hoping for something similar. Cookie was not as flaky, jam had seeds, and a totally different icing. But it was soft and tasted good. 6. Smile Cookies - 3/5. Different than the previous ones. Dough was drier but still chewy. Not as deep of flavor. Still good though. We would say it's worth a try. Everything was decent. We appreciate that they tried to keep some traditions, and also tried their own things.

Came here after hearing a colleague rave about the chicken here…read more Parking is availalble in front. Even though this is a chain, the interior reminded me a lot of a mom and pop operation. Nice cozy feel. The waitress was friendly and helpful. For dinner I had the 2 piece chicken and shrimp combo. You can pick 2 sides with this one - I chose fries and coleslaw. Chicken - mmm good. Comfort food at its best. Actually one of the best places I've had in a while. Big Mama's in Omaha (which was recommended by Guy Fieri of DDD) came to mind during my first bite. Prawns - tasted a bit stale (fishy), but there is no ocean here. Can't really blame them. Fries - thin cut. Portion was quite large. Almost too large but I managed to clear it off. Coleslaw - also decent as well. I'd give this place 3.5 stars, and will definitely be back to try other items.

I ordered the 3 piece chicken dinner with a side of mash and salad. The Chicken had decent flavor, but was drowning in grease to the point of no return. The mash covered in gravy tasted bland and underwhelming, furthermore the side salad was little more than two bites. The redeeming qualities about the restaurant included it's attentive servers and the menus reasonable prices.

We're old and just don't eat as much as we used to. The ribs were good, not great. They were a little dry, however, in their favour, they were not slathered with some overpowering barbecue sauce. Fries were good although I can never understand the extra $2.00 charge. Are yams truly that much more costly than potatoes? Cole slaw was fine. I ordered a beer from a very pedestrian menu. My wife wanted iced tea, but Brisk was the only product available. She passed. Very heavy on the sugar. Service was good, although at times, things seemed confused. They may have been short-staffed. Unfortunately, the restaurant had a performer scratching out a few old Johnny Cash tunes. When I go to a restaurant, I go for the food, company and lively conversation. This was nearly impossible as we had to shout at each other to be heard over the music. My recommendation - can the music. It added nothing to the experience. The cost was acceptable. There was value for money. However, the piece de resistance was the banana cream crepe. Absolutely spectacular and worth every cent of the $8.50 price tag. If truth be known, I could have had it for dinner and been satisfied. Delicious If you've not been to the Emporium before, I urge you to give it a try this season.

Great place to go for breakfast. Their crepes are also berry good - both savoury and sweet kinds.read more
